Hello everyone to another chapter of Pokémon League: Remnant Region.
Again definitely need to find a better title.
But we last left off with our boy going off on his own to prove to his father and to himself of one thing.
Getting a Pokémon partner.
But our young blond doesn't want just any old starter you could find in the forest.
He wants something memorable, and what better way to get something like that then then the beautiful, but rugged Quartz Tunnel.
We will see how things play out here.
Let's get started.
I don't own RWBY or Pokémon, but if I did I'd have everyone get a legendary.
Chapter 2: Aron You Glad We Met
Jaune was slightly panting from jogging he was doing. Technically it was pretty dangerous being out alone on Route 8 and the forest part of the outskirts of Ansel. Especially if it's night time. But he made it through just fine and was almost near his destination.
He recalled some particularly nasty customers are here at night like Murkrow, Houndour, Scraggy and Ekans that roam the grassy plains of Route 8. Plus if he was particularly unlucky a full grown Arbok or heavens forbid a Seviper could be roaming around these woods.
Jaune also remembered his sisters telling him that other variations of Pokémon like Valean Rattata, Valean Meowth, and Valean Zigzagoon that could be pretty aggressive if you encroach on them at night during a training run with your pals.
But he must of been a Pokémon with Super Luck in his previous life as he didn't encounter anything too bad tonight, just a sleepy Slakoth that spooked him when he was near a tree and waved 'hello' before heading back to sleep.
Thank Arceus those things were more docile than other Pokémon or their more energetic evolution Vigoroth.
But finally after an hour of traveling on foot, Jaune finally made it to the notorious Quartz Tunnel. The blond gazed at the large cave mouth, as it stretched on, the further he looked in the more dark it got.
However their was a silver lining as the certain quartz crystals were pretty bright in the caverns. In fact they were so bright, they were able to illuminate some of the upper levels of the tunnel to have everyone see in the cavern system.
He had heard stories from the local townspeople and other kids and passing trainers that this place was a nice training area for trainers that have already won their second gym badge in the Remnant League, or a prime place to mine certain stones, like Fire, Water, and other evolution stones for certain types of Pokémon who need it.
Other times trainers and sometimes miners come here to dig for buried treasure in these complicated caverns. But usually those kinds of goodies and the evolution stones were down in the lower levels of the tunnel system.
Well that was what his sisters and mother told him when they visited this place to find them for Blaze, Rivers, and Bolt.
The teen took a step couple steps forward towards the cave mouth before he stopped, hesitating before he went completely into the dark entrance.
This would be one of the first times he'd be going into the Quartz Tunnel alone. Usually it would be his parents or his sisters coming along with their Pokémon with them for protection or to illuminate the darker parts of the cave.
Jaune felt unsure here, he knew that this place could be dangerous, any place with Wild Pokémon is, but usually even beginner trainers are advised not to go deep into the Quartz Tunnels. He heard from some of the adult miners that come to explore that Onix dig into the lower levels of the structure, and that they are there to strengthen themselves. That's why you sometimes feel small tremors lower in the ground when you go deeper into the caverns part.
That... was another terrifying prospect that Jaune would have worry about. There also wasn't just Onix down here in this wonderful structure. It was a really rare chance, but there is a low possibility, and really low mind you.
But there was a chance of Onix's evolution showing up in the Quartz Tunnel. The thought of a Steelix popping up into deeper regions of the cavernous system or heavens forbid the top floor of the tunnel made Jaune shiver a bit. He has definitely seen that giant on TV during Pokémon battles during tournaments.
He definitely did NOT want to see it right now with no mon to defend himself.
With a couple of deep breaths, he went forth to meet with his destiny.
Not knowing what to expect
"I know I'm scared... Ok maybe absolutely terrified." He thought as he continued to walk forward, light starting to dim the more he went in. "But I want this. I want to become a trainer and I can't let this place scare me!" While his heart was beating fast, the sense of fright was starting to fade a little, as excitement was starting to get the better of him.
With that last thought, Jaune's body disappeared into the inky black tunnel entrance.
(Music: Chargestone Cave- Pokémon Black White)
When Jaune went in, he was honestly expecting it to be so dark that he'd need a flashlight or a Flash user because he wouldn't be able to see in front of him.
But to his surprise there was at least some visibility as he could see somewhat in these tunnels.
"Wonder how this dark tunnel stays lit up all the time?" His gaze went upwards to find his answer as small pink colored crystals that were bright and full of light above his head.
"Guess why they call this the Quartz Tunnel." He couldn't really tell when he was younger considering that his folks and sisters usually had a way to light up the tunnel.
He looked towards his left and right, but he didn't really notice any Pokémon at the entrance.
"Maybe they are a bit farther in the structure." He didn't want to get too deep into the tunnel. There could be more dangerous Pokémon deeper in the tunnel. He knew it was dangerous and this plan was very idiotic, reckless, and pig headed.
Maybe he should rethink this idea, ask one of his sister's to help him out with this.
"No! Dad will be watching Jade and the others like a hawk if they help me." Recalling the talk that they had at dinner...
(Flashback hours ago)
"Son as much as you want to have a Pokémon by your side. I... I just don't think you're ready to care for one on your own." The boy's heart broke when his father said that to him. Jade, Vermillion, Saphron, and Indigo looked towards the boy to see his face that was just smiling a second ago morph into one of denial and most of all sadness.
Amethyst, Cyan, and Peridot didn't dare anything back about their father's ridiculous way of thinking. They've seen their baby brother take care of their Vee's and how much hard work he's done learning and caring for Pokémon in the field.
No. They knew what this was about, because they had to deal with this problem with their father when they were growing up. But the noticed that father was being way more strict with Jaune than them, almost protectively like a newborn egg.
"But... But why? I'm at the legal age to obtain a Pokémon, why don't you think I can?"
"You need to be more aware son. A Pokémon can be dangerous if you're not mature enough to control it, and could serious damage to you." His father reminded. "Look what happened to you today." Nicholas continued, talking about the Rhyhorn that was chasing him, in which the boy looked down in shame from that.
"Honey, you can't just base your decision on that." Juniper pointed out.
"Mom's right dad. You can check Jaune's track record on how he has treated the Mudbray and Mudsdale, not to mention the Rapidash and Ponyta. He excels at taking care of those guys and even I have trouble taking care of them." Jade pointed out, in which Saphron shivered about those mean old horses.
" I don't know how Jaune does it. Those pokémon are a pain in the butt. Along with those Swanna and Ducklett." Saphron admits. They never really liked her for some reason. Because whenever Jaune was out sick or something she'd have to take the horse pokémon and they never listened or wanted to eat when she was feeding, and the 2nd oldest never understood why.
As for those little menaces... she'd rather deal with a rampaging Gyarados with Blaze.
"Yeah Jauney is a natural at taking care of Pokémon daddy." Noel pipped up, in which the former pokémon trainer looked in her direction and decided to listen to her 4th eldest.
"Sylvia normally doesn't let anyone brush her or care for her fur and ribbons." Vermillion Arc continued with a big grin. "But our baby brother has always been so gentle with her and all of our Eeveelutions, when it comes to brushing and grooming, isn't that right girls?" She called out towards the other sisters, in which the others nodded.
"How does he make Blaze's fur so fluffy... She's like an Altaria marshmallow cloud." Saphron could only whisper out the impossibility of it all.
"Heck yeah! I've never seen River's skin be so smooth, I don't know what you've done Jaune you've got to tell me." Indigo chiming in as her Vaporeon yipped her agreement.
"I usually have no issue's with noticing my Crystal's health, but she had definitely increased in muscle mass with all of the exercise that our brother had put her through." Cyan said, usually she doesn't compliment her brother for his help with her research of making pokéballs and such, but he's definitely proven himself by taking care of her Glaceon.
"That's true there Cy!" Peridot said. " Bolt has been looking more energetic than ever since little bro figured out what kind of chow Jolteon likes, it helps us out for getting ready for any kind of fights that we get into." Peridot sent a smile towards the youngest.
Jaune could only smile from all the support he was getting from his sisters, as he noticed his father's serious demeanor crumble a bit from all of the praise.
"I must admit, Jaune has the skills and knowledge to care for a Pokémon father. As usually Iris is a more picky eater than most. But he was able to figure out how her food should be made and what kind of Poffins she likes." Amethyst had to concede defeat there. As much as her little brother annoys her with his battle trainer talk, he definitely had all of their pokémon in mind.
Still she wished he would of taken the contest route. She thought her baby brother would be an excellent showmen if he did, though not as good as her.
"Please dad." Jade pleaded. " We have all seen how he's with taking care of Pokémon and all of us have messes up once or twice with the Ranch Pokémon before." The oldest sister gestured. " Surely you could reconsider, we all know that Jaune is capable of taking care of a Pokémon of his own." Jade finished.
The father of the Arc family looked around until he looked at his beloved. Having a knowing smirk, trying to give him a 'I told you so' attitude about this stance.
"Listen dad... I-I just a mistake with not seeing that Rhyhorn. I know that doesn't excuse what I did but... I-I was just excited to see the new pokémon coming in." Jaune explained.
Nicholas only sighed out from each of his children's explanation.
"I know I have been harsh on you my son." The man said as he looked at him with his cerulean eyes. " That this whole decision seems unfair to you and all of your sisters. Maybe you think I'm being spiteful or trying to deny you of having fun and living your dream."
"But... I just want to keep all of you safe." Nicholas eyes were being shadowed now as he couldn't look his son in the face for this decision. "And right now... with some of the reckless behavior that I've seen from you son it worries me and your mother to death." June felt ashamed, and while part of what Nicholas is true, she doesn't believe Jaune should he stunted for as a kid that wants a pokémon..
"That being said. Despite all that was said. I'm sorry son, I just don't think you ready yet and you still need to mature and some more growing to do before you prove yourself you are ready." All of the sisters looked down like it was final decision in court.
Jade and the other sisters saw Jaune had no words, as he politely got up from the table and went upstairs to his room.
"As for you all of you at the table. I don't want to see any of you helping him catch any pokémon without my supervision or behind my back. Otherwise there will be major consequences." Letting the hanging threat linger on all at the table. While the other siblings wanted to argue back, they knew that their father will follow up on that threat.
"Jaune..." However Jade care about that and was only concerned about her baby brother. She was about to get up and comfort him, but she felt a hand stop her. Her mother shook her head to signal to stop.
"Don't worry, I'll go talk to him sweetie. He just needs a little time to himself." Her gaze now towards her husband, a terrifying glare that would paralyze any man or pokémon. Thinking that would make her man reconsider.
However, Nicholas was not focused on his wife. His current mind was on his only son and how he had to break this news to him.
"Forgive me son. But until you mature, I can't let you do this, not yet." The man thought as he looked towards the stairs.
(Flashback end)
The young teen wiped away his watery eyes from that recent memory, he needed to 'pay attention' as his father would say. It was still an active cave full of dangerous Pokémon.
"Zu-Zu-Zubat." Jaune's eyes widened from the shock. He quickly ducked as he heard the noisy squeaks of a group of Zubat heading out of the tunnel, most likely to find some kind of food. After they were nowhere to be seen, he got back up and looked behind him just to make sure.
"Whew... that was close." Wiping the sweat from his brow. He continued down the tunnel the earthy gems above giving him the light he needed. The blond teen was coming up to a lighted exit, most likely an open area of the Quartz Tunnel.
Once Jaune got out of the tunnel, the open area he was met with definitely changed his opinion of this place.
This wasn't just a tunnel...this was a cavern!
It was quite spacious as he saw crystals, minerals rocks lining the wall like silvery gems and other precious minerals that have yet to be mined. With walls littered with valuable rocks and gems that cover the open cave in a beautiful shining spectacle.
The reason for these valuable minerals still being here was the pushback from the community of Ansel. They denied mining companies that wanted to drill the surface wall as with their equipment, trying to take those pure iron and other element deposits for other communities.
It would be helpful for certain companies and would be a huge help for other cities to get this.
However the risk was too high the multiple Onix and Steelix tremors through the earth send small or large shockwaves that could accidentally collapse the cave if too much drilling happens, which could cause a big cave in if they were to both happen at the same time.
The ending results could be catastrophic, destroying an ecosystem for cave Pokémon and all that live here and could potentially harm people and Pokémon in the long run.
Which is why the lower tunnels are the only ones used for mining operations, the only tool they are allowed to use down there are regular pickaxes. They don't want those people using a drill and accidentally hitting the digging pokémon.
So the top floor of the caverns are more for trainers than other. Usually the top floor has a plethora of pokémon that are out at night time in the caves.
Jaune couldn't help but notice ground shake a bit, not big enough for a tremor but definitely a little shake with each impact. The cause of this shaking were some Geodude bouncing nearby and its evolved form Graveler slowly rolling after them. The small commotion alerting other Pokémon like Roggenrola, Mawile, and the creatures underground like Drilbur and Diglett to see what was going down.
The crystals that stood out also had the purple form of a Sableye, causally munching away at some of the small quartz crystals that broke off. Before seeing a more tempting prize for eating like a pack of sudden floating Carbink with different variations of forms.
Jaune was didn't have any words, the Pokémon in this cavern were all full of life. Each one interesting in their own way. All of which led up to one question.
"Which one should I try and catch?" He thought. Each of them looked really cool and he was hoping that he could somehow catch one them without having any confrontation. But Jaune had a feeling that was not gonna be case here.
Wild Pokémon were sometimes difficult to catch, but wild cave pokémon were pretty tough to catch, but he was feeling lucky here.
Also a tad bit desperate. He needed to think about which options would be the easiest and work with what he got there.
"The Geodude and Graveler are a definite no go." As much as he wanted a powerful Ground-Rock Type like that line, he'd probably be turned into a punching bag or steamrolled into the dirt before he'd be able to use his Premier Ball.
"Maybe the Drillbur or Diglett would be good." He saw those guys digging, leaving ground trails as they swim through the earth.
Perhaps a bit too quickly for Jaune here.
Unfortunately when he went to try and throw his only pokéball at the Diglett, it immediately went underground, far too quick for the budding trainer to catch when he threw the Premier Ball.
"Stay still damn it!" He shouted out.
"Diglett." The little guys just looked happy as a Clamperl just messing with the boy. In which he only growled out as he continued to throw the pokéball.
However after numerous failed attempts, he decided to call it quits for the little buggers. Slumping his shoulders in exhaustion. Maybe Drillbur would be a better choice in the long run.
If Jaune thought Diglett was hard to catch, then Drillbur was near impossible to even get a lock on. As for every time that the little mole saw the teen, it would be in the ground and digging deep into remnant soil before he could throw the pokéball. So he decided to cross that one off the list to catch as well.
"Never knew this would be so tough." The options were starting to dwindle, but he still has some choices among him here.
However when he tried to catch Mawile, it didn't really go well. As Jaune through the Premier Ball at the creature, he thought it was going to let him catch it.
"This time I got it!"
"Maaaaaaawile!" Instead, the Mawile turned its big jawed head and with great momentum swung it around to hit the Premier Ball. Its trajectory at heading back towards Jaune.
"Or maybe not..." The pokéball was going as fast as a Quick Attack, preventing the teen to dodge it as hit him dead set square in the face.
"OW!" The force was so strong it knocked him down on his ass. He rubbed his nose as it took the brunt of the hit. While the strike only stung a slight bit, but that definitely did some damage his pride there. "Stupid Mawile..."
"Wile." The pokémon huffed and walked away looking offended to escape the teen.
"Ok, well that didn't go as planned." Jaune admitted. Maybe a Sableye would be the better companion compared to the savage Fairy-Steel Type.
When he went to catch one...Jaune honestly decided to turn around and walk the other way when it started blasting Night Shade shots at him. He had to dance away from him, the blond hearing the cackles of the Pokemon.
Jaune decided to cross that pokémon off the list immediately as well.
Honestly it was for the best, those gem eyes and sharp smile really gave him the shivers when he stared at the little purple gremlin a little too long, plus the pokémon just felt like he wouldn't fit with him.
Call him crazy, but it just felt wrong. Like a sixth sense or something popped into his brain. Also he did not need nightmares when he wanted a companion thank you very much and he has a feeling Ghost Pokémon do that sometimes to their trainers.
Moving on, he noticed that there were some Zubat still hanging around in the dark parts of the cave as he could see the blue little bodies still clinging and wrapped up in their wings, while others flap around with activity. They might be sleepy or younger Zubat.
While Jaune would be interested in having a Zubat, it was kind of a last choice kind of pokémon, in case he was out of options. He wanted to think about the choice more.
After all there are still plenty of pokémon here to catch.
"Roggen." The teen heard the sound of a pokémon near him. The blond noticed the hopping form of a Roggenrola appear right next to some rock formations.
Jaune smiled at this candidate, now this little guy would be a good choice for a partner.
He has seen its evolved forms of Boldore and Gigalith in battle videos. Scroll footage shows that they are very sturdy pokémon. Having tons of powerful rock moves like Rock Slide, Power Gem, and Stone Edge, putting the hurt on Fire Types and more.
Jaune already knew they had a ton weaknesses like Water and Grass, but that's part of the challenge as a budding trainer: Learning to adapt and take on any challenge with their pokémon, despite type advantage.
So with that said, he had the Premier Ball in his hands and ready to throw it.
"Machop!"
"Maku!"
The sudden shout of cries startled the rock Pokémon and it decided to take off towards one of the lower level cavern tunnels tog get away.
"Hey wait!" Jaune called out to it as he went to chase after the little pokémon.
However before he could go any further he looked to his left and had to quickly roll out of the way as a grey colored looking Pokémon was being flung his way.
It hit the wall that Jaune was near, once the dust settled the small form was slowly getting up to show to the blond teen what it was.
The Pokémon in question was a Machop. Its red eyes were laser focused on the opponent in front of it, gritting its teeth and getting back into a fighting stance, ready for more conflict.
The opponent in question was a Makuhita, the large fighting type having a big smile on its face as it was getting ready to fight once more.
"Ma-Machop!" Jaune noticed that it had some scratches here and there, showing that's it has taken a beating.
"Ma-ku-hita" The big yellow Pokémon only flexed its hand with a 'come hither' motion. Signaling the grey fighter to attack him.
With that signal the fight began anew, Jaune in awe of the two Fighting Types duking it out with a mixture of fighting styles, grapples, and powerful moves. This definitely gave the blond an idea.
Once they were finished, one of them will be too tired and fatigued to struggle, thus would give him an opening to catch one of them.
"This will probably be my best chance here." He thought, these two Pokémon look really strong, and he wouldn't care if he caught the loser of the spar. Both will turn into strong partners under his care.
It looks like they haven't noticed him as they continue to clash. The Machop looked like it was still struggling against his bigger opponent as the Makuhita continued to thrust its arms, pushing the grey things body back. With one last thrust, it sent the mon back flying into the wall that Jaune was near.
"Ma...chop" It was on its knee now, breathing hard and definitely looking tired.
"Now's my chance!" Jaune threw the ball towards the Machop. It made contact on its head, the pokémon making a surprised noise as it went into the ball.
"Maku?" The other pokémon tilted its head in curiosity, wondering where his opponent went.
The Premier Ball shook in protest, showing the fight the grey skinned fighter had.
"Come on! Come on!" Jaune was hopeful, it felt like this was the only chance he was going to get.
This Machop had to stay in the ball! Jaune saw he was too tired, there's no way he would break out.
Unfortunately luck was not with him on this day as the white light of the Pokéball opening materialized the form of the Machop.
The capture was a failure.
Now that the Machop saw the device, he kicked the machine back towards Jaune, the ball rolling back towards his feet.
Jaune went to pick it up, but before he moved away. He noticed the Machop run at him.
"Whoa whoa what are doiaahhhhh!" The smaller Pokémon grabbed his leg, causing Jaune to fall on his rear. Jaune was surprised as he tried to pry his leg out of the Pokémon 's grip.
However his eyes started to widen in horror as the Machop was slowly swinging him around in a circle.
"Ahhhhhhhh!" Jaune was definitely scared as he was now airborne thanks to Machop using Seismic Toss, his Motion Sickness coming into the play as the teen was about hurl.
Lucky or not, the Machop was finally done and decided to fling the human towards the sky.
"OHHHH ARCEUS NOOOOO!" He screamed out as his trajectory took him towards one of the lower cavern tunnels that was heading deeper into the cave system. His body quickly hit ground, the impact was pretty hard and definitely hurt a lot more than a Pokéball hitting him in the face.
But the pain didn't stop there as he his body continued to roll down the lower path, going through an entrance to a lower section of Quartz Tunnel. When his body finally stopped he was at another cave mouth going towards another path.
"Jeez. Next time warn me when you feel offended of being captured by me." The blond looked down the path and he did remember that this was the path that the Roggenrola took, maybe it was still nearby?
He looked back to see those two Fighters still duking it out on the floor as their cries and grunts signified they were still in the thick of it.
"Probably not the best idea to go back there for now." He said as he quickly got up and went down the path and towards another path that led deeper into the Quartz Tunnel Cavern.
(Few Minutes Later...)
"Man my feet are pretty tired." The blond commented as he was traveling through another tunnel. This one felt a little longer, but definitely had some more lighting thanks to the bigger crystal quartz's that were hanging from the ceiling. Plus there were some Carbink's around in this tunnel that could be interesting.
But Jaune wasn't really thinking of catching those. He had heard before that these Carbink could be something special if trained correctly as their typing is very unique. Jaune had to agree that Fairy and Rock were definitely one of kind.
However they aren't the best battlers around, at least that's what Peridot said before, so he decided to pass on them. It was like, he just didn't think the pokémon was going to be a good fit for him.
He even heard one rumor about these little guys. That they have a sort of birth mother even though they don't have a gender. Townsfolk said there was some reason for them being down here and that the Quartz down here was special as it sometimes was too hard to mine out by a pickaxe. In fact one of the older townsfolk Mr. Harrison said that there was some kind of Legendary Pokémon that the Carbink follow and it was so rare in this cavern that no one has seen it.
But that old timer was always telling stories and no one believed him, and Jaune had a hard time believing it too.
After a couple of more minutes Jaune let out a big yawn, he was feeling pretty tired right now. He'd imagine that it was probably midnight by now from how much time he's spent trying to catch a Pokémon partner. He needed to get back home and fast.
But he needed to find that Roggenrola.
"If I can't find it here then I might as well cut my losses and head home." Jaune just needed to make sure that his folks or his sisters don't notice him gone from the house. Sometimes Jade does wake up and check up on him and the other sisters. The last thing he needed was to worry the entire family that he snuck out of the ranch and went to a dangerous cave.
He finally reached the end of the tunnel, but as he did he felt a large quake that made him stumble. This tremor definitely felt stronger than the one he felt up top.
"Aw crap." He was definitely nervous now, he was deeper into the Quartz Tunnel and most certainly is in Onix territory.
"Not like I wasn't before." It was pretty rare to see Onix more on the surface floors, but now he'd probably have a chance to see them more often on one of the lower floors of the area.
Jaune finally saw and walked through the tunnel exit. This cavern he was in now definitely has more space and it looks like its a little darker down there with less quartz crystals. He wanted to find that Roggenrola, but he couldn't help but be fascinated by some of the walls of the cave.
Jaune noticed more a lack in those quartz down here as there were more stones and mineral rocks than those regular quartz loafs.
In fact, he noticed that some of those stones were much different looking compared to your regular minerals. He saw one that had fire in it, while another had a really bright light and was light blue in color, almost blindingly so.
Jaune has seen a Fire Stone, but the other one he wasn't so sure. As he had seen the basic evolutionary stones like the Water, Fire, and Thunderstones.
But this one...it just felt different like it was a bright shiny star that he couldn't look away. He walked towards the thing, the gem like rock looked like it was lodged in tight in the rocky wall.
Jaune couldn't help but reach out towards it. Like it was calling him towards it. He grabbed it and pulled with all of his thirteen year old might. He felt the stone loosen in the wall and continue to pull as more and more it felt like it was going come out.
Then the ground shook once more, this time the strongest tremors that Jaune has felt tonight! Even the wall shook as the stone and a couple of others gave way off of the wall.
The ground was starting to break apart, Jaune noticed in the distance the smaller Pokémon like Roggenrola, Zubat, and Geodude were fleeing from the area. Meanwhile some Fighting pokémon like Machop, Makuhita, and Meditite were all in standing their ground, waiting for whatever would come up.
In the midst of all of that Jaune was able to pull out the teal shiny stone. He felt like it would come in handy later, so he decided to keep it. The blond then noticed some other stones fell from the wall, most likely loosened by the tremors of earth.
"Might as well take them." He wouldn't look a gif Ponyta in the mouth as he saw a Firestone, a Thunderstone, and one more that he hadn't seen before that was light in color and as bright as the light blue stone.
"Well finders keepers." He muttered out. He took the stones and put them in his pockets, he was reminded that these evolutionary stones can be rare and be used for big money or better yet...maybe he could use them for future usage.
Now he turned his attention towards the large problem that was now surfacing. The gigantic body of an...
"Raawwwrrrggghhh!"
A particularly big Onix.
"ROOAAARRGG!" The giant rock snake roared out, showing its ferocity by slamming the ground with its rocky body. Launching other pokémon from the large tail smash. Jaune noticed the cries of other Pokémon that couldn't get away.
For some reason... Jaune couldn't let this stand. While his heart was full of fear from the intimidating Onix, he couldn't help but feel bad for the pokémon caught up in this mess. He wanted to help them from this big bully.
"But what can I do against THAT?!" He had to think of something! These Pokémon are gonna get hurt all because of this rampaging rock type.
"Guess your aren't ready to become a pokémon trainer." The dark thought went through his mind, the blond couldn't help his self-deprecating thoughts after tonight. His father's words ringing in his ears.
"Until your more mature... you will be destined to fail." He heard the voice of his father. "Your dreams of becoming a legendary pokémon trainer will be just that... dreams of a coward and a fool!" The voice berated him.
Jaune gripped his hand in a tight balled fist, he couldn't help himself but be filled with anger. But not at his dad or anyone in his family.
But at himself.
"I can't let myself..." Jaune breathed out, his bright blue eyes filled with determination. "No! I won't let myself fall into despair, and I'm gonna prove it tonight!" A fire lit up in his aqua blue pools.
With that said, the teen ran towards the danger. Hoping to help out the Pokémon that were in peril. While he didn't have any pokémon, that doesn't mean he couldn't help out.
"This is crazy, this is crazy, this is totally Swoobat shit crazy."
Meanwhile a nasty looking Dragonbreath came out of the mouth of the angry Onix, the pokémon running as fast as they could to get away.
"Ahhhh!" Jaune yelped as he dived out of the attacks way.
However Jaune noticed some figures jump out of the way. He noticed it was some of the Fighting pokémon that dodged the big rock serpent's attack and proceeded to counter the giant. Makuhita using its powerful Arm Thrust attacks, Machop striking with their powerful Low Kicks, and Meditite giving the Onix a taste of a brutal Force Palm.
The strogn strikes hurting the Onix immensely, as it was flailing in pain from the super effective moves. The continuous strikes making the Rock type cry out as the powerfu physical moves kept on coming.
After taking multiple hits, enough damage that would make anyone faint from the multiple Fighting types. The big rock snake had enough of the beatings, and with it being outnumbered it decided to burrow back into the ground, going deep into Remnant's crust to escape the onslaught.
Once the mission was complete for the defending Pokémon they all celebrated in their own way. With Machop flexing its body in pride, Makuhita was just punching the air shadow boxing for the next opponent, but Meditite just went back to its normal meditation like per usual.
Jaune looked at the aftermath of that Onix brought. It looked like most of the pokémon dispersed from the area when it was rampaging. The Onix left its mark here in the big area with the ground being furrowed from its massive body.
Still... Jaune wanted to check to see if any cave pokémon were hurt. It could be serious of there were injuries and nobody was here to monitor and see them.
"Just a quick little check, then its back to the ranch." He thought, it looked pretty clear so far.
"A-Aron Ar-Aron." Jaune heard the noise and went to investigate. It sounded pretty close to the markings on the ground from the Onix.
When Jaune went over to the location he was a quite shocked on what he found.
It was an Aron, a small silver and grey colored creature with dark blue eyes that were similar colored to Jaune. Its sturdy looking body looked tough as iron as it still looked shiny.
But right now it was looked to be in rough shape as electricity coursed throughout its body.
"It must have been paralyzed from that Dragonbreath attack." Jaune thought, as the pokémon in question had sparks all over its body. The Aron in question saw the blond and narrowed its eyes at the unknown human.
"Aron!" It cried out to sound tough, but as soon as it tried to move its body locked up in pain.
"Whoa whoa! Easy now little guy, I'm not here to hurt you or anything." The blond raising his hands in surrender. "I'm just here to check on any injured Pokémon that was hit by that Onix ok?" The blond got closer to the Aron.
But the Steel type was on the defensive. It saw the white colored Pokéball on the blond's belt, so it might be trying to capture it while its weak.
Well it'll show this human who's weak! He maybe a 'runt' of the Aron herd but he definitely wasn't a wimp!
"Here let me get you to some proper medicine that will make you fe-" He went to pick up the Aron, just for it to growl at the Arc teen.
Jaune noticed it was wary of him, the Aron probably thinks he's trying to catch him. "Ok this may look..."
"Aron!" This Pokémon was definitely on guard now.
"Alright this definitely sounds sketchy for you." Jaune admitted. "But you are badly hurt and I want to help you." When he said that the Aron felt the electric shock of that Dragonbreath still lingering on him. The shocking pain making the pokémon breath deep.
"A-Aron?" The little guy questioned, but soon shook its head. Its stubbornness showing on for display.
"Look Aron." Jaune sighed out. "I know your putting on a tough pokémon act, but in reality I know your in pain." Jaune said out to the Steel type as let out a heavy sigh. "You know I used to be just like you."
"Ron?" It tilted its head in curiosity, wincing at the little shocks.
"When I was just a kid, I never wanted help from my sisters about being a trainer. I thought I would be fine by just watching battles and catching pokémon like you."
"But later on in life I learned to trust them and have faith in them that they would help me understand more about all of you. In turn I trusted them, not just because they were my family, but because they believed in me that I could learn." The Steel type continued to listen the blond kids speech, moved by what he was saying.
"Now I not only want to become a trainer in this world, but I want to care for others because of how beautiful this world and all of you creatures really are. You pokémon are all amazing, no matter what and don't let anyone say otherwise!" The Aron's eyes widened from that last part.
"Especially you little guy, you're still in pain and your body is still feeling the shocks, but you still want to continue fighting through it."
"I see the determination in those eyes to keep fighting on. In my eyes your one of the toughest Pokémon out there Aron." The Steel type couldn't help the smile on its face from the blond's speech.
This human male... The boy had said something that had never been said in Aron's entire life, not even its friends or family thought he was a tough or fierce since birth!
No Pokémon ever gave its appreciation to how hard it was working to be a stronger mon, fighting diffculty challengers in the cave, building up its defense to take the next hit. Nobody understood what he was doing
Until this human today.
Maybe... this human wasn't so bad.
"A-Aron Aron!" The Steel type went up towards the jacket wearing human and smiled.
He couldn't believe it! Aron changed its mind and wanted help.
Jaune couldn't help the genuine grin that he let out for the Steel Type. "Thanks Aron. Always remember its never wrong to ask help from someone, even if they are strangers." The blond rubbed the little guys head. "As my mom always say, strangers are just friends you haven't met."
"Aron!" It cried out, but quickly jerked from the pain. The little Aron finally falling towards the ground in misery.
"Ah! We better get you some help." This time the Aron didn't resist as Jaune went to pick the little guy up.
Only to absolutely struggle on trying to pick up the small Pokémon.
"Hrrrggghh!" He tried to pick him up, but he could barely get him off the ground before having to put down the deceptively heavy pokémon down. "W-What in Arceus name... why are you so heavy?" Jaune questioned. He knew it was a Steel Type and they were known to be pretty heavy, but this was ridiculous.
If Jaune did remember his lessons though, he'd remember that Aron was actually 132 lbs. in this first evolution, a weight way too heavy for someone of his stature to pick up.
While working on the ranch definitely helped with building some muscle, he was no bodybuilder that was for sure. So trying to move Aron was definitely a struggle.
"Ugh... Its no good I can't lift you Aron." He muttered out, the Arc wanted to do something and help the little pokémon. Until he looked at his Premier Ball and got an idea.
"I just hope the little guy can trust me a bit more." The blond thought.
"Aron, I'm going to have to put you in this Premier Ball."
"A-Aron..." The Pokémon looking unsure.
"I promise as soon as your condition is better, I will release you and you can come back home ok?" Jaune pleaded, while he wanted a pokémon partner the teen wasn't going to lie to him and just rip the Pokémon from the habitat he was raised just for his enjoyment.
That would just be cruel to him.
After a few more terse seconds, the Aron only nodded its head in acceptance.
"Ok, Premier Ball go!" Jaune chucked the ball, hitting Aron in the head. The Iron Armor pokémon disappeared into the ball. The Pokéball shook a couple of times, but soon the shaking stopped signifying the capture.
Jaune went to pick up the ball and looked at it with a somber expression. "I should be celebrating my first capture, but this technically isn't my first Pokémon." He heard another rumble down in the earth. "Ah crud, I better get out of here!" He did not want to be in the middle of another Onix confrontation that's for sure.
So with that said he took off from Quartz Tunnel, hurrying back home so he can take care of the injured Aron.
Jaune thanked whatever deity was out there as he was able to make a safe trek out of the dangerous cave area of the tunnel. When he made his way back towards the exit he noticed that the Machop and Makuhita fighting earlier were nowhere to be found.
That was some good news, the last thing he needed to do was get tossed like a ragdoll. With the area clear and no aggressive Pokémon in sight, he made his way out of the Quartz Tunnel.
He could smell the cool open air of the night as he made his trek back to his house, thankfully with no night time Pokémon wanting to pick a fight with the young man. After a long walk he finally made it to the familiar sight of the giant white colored ranch house. Jaune checked his hoodie pouches to feel the weight of the stones that he was able to take with him from the tunnel, he felt four heavy objects in his hands to confirm that he had the stones.
"Thank you Bunnelby hoodie." He said outside of the backdoor of the house and as quietly as he could opened it up, Jaune definitely didn't want to wake anyone up upstairs. The last thing he wanted was to be questioned to his whereabouts.
Jaune was in the kitchen and checked the time on the microwave to see it was 2:30 in the morning. He needed to be in here anyways for Aron's treatment anyways. The blond now was searching for some Cheri Berries that the ranch grows here for usage.
"Come on they got to be..." He was searching in the pantry in the dark, hoping to find the red colored berry somewhere. "I'm sure that Jade put them somewhere."
"Oh and what pray tell are you looking for at this hour little brother." The lights turned on in the kitchen and the blond boy yelped in surprised. He quickly turned around to see a tired looking Jade Arc and one that looked furious to see him here of all places.
"Hehehe... Hi sis." He said sheepishly.
"Nope, not this 'hi sis' nonsense Jaune we are far beyond that tonight."
"Your gonna tell me right now where you have been for the last couple of hours, and you are going to tell me now or I will have you grounded." His oldest sister saw her baby brother in his favorite hoodie. But she noticed all the dirt and dust on his pants and hoodie, along with some little rocks here and there. Seems he had been in a scuffle and his hair is matted in sweat, like he had been working out or rolling around in the dirt.
"Well I was uh... I was jogging." Jaune confessed.
"In the middle of the night?" She definitely didn't believe him at all. Then she noticed the object on his belt, as she narrowed her eyes on the object. "Jaune. What is that on your belt?" His blue eyes widened in horror, as he quickly put his hand on the object to hide it.
"I have no idea what your talking about sis." He backed up and looked behind him, trying to think of an escape plan.
But Jade was much quicker as she went forward and grabbed the object that was in his covered hand. She identified it as a Premier Ball.
"Jaune... what are you doing? Why do you have this Pokéball?" Jaune only groaned out in defeat, he really didn't want to get Jade in on this. As much as he loves his oldest sister, he couldn't afford for this to happen.
He knew dad would ground him for life if he found out about this .
"Look Jade I can explain, but can you please do something for me." Jaune put his hands together in a pleading position. "Please don't tell dad about this. I know you'll be mad about what I did and I'm sorry in advance, but please please don't tell dad about anything tonight!" He begged.
Jade looked at the Premier Ball for a few seconds before sighing out and looking at her brother. "Your not making this easy on yourself Jaune. You lied to me and then your keeping secrets from all of us."
"Please Jade! I promise to tell you everything! Just please don't tell him or mom!" He almost shouted out, as he grabbed onto his sister's shoulders and started tearing up.
"Alright alright I'll listen to what you have to say, just keep your voice down and stop crying!" The sister hissed out. "Do you want mom and dad waking up at this hour to see what why you were up."
"No." He immediately clammed up like a Cloyster.
"Good, now spill." His sister demanded.
" Thanks sis...Alright, so its like this."
So Jaune told her everything about his exploration of the Quartz Tunnel: His 'interaction' with the cave Pokémon, the evolution stones that he was able to obtain, the scary Onix encounter that almost got him killed, and the run in with the Aron. Plus how he got the Premier Ball.
"So... that's all of it?" Jade wanted to confirm that he was truthful with everything the thirteen year old blond boy said.
"Yes it is. Which is why I need those Cherri Berries, to help Aron from with its paralysis. But I can't find them." Jaune explained.
"Ok. First the berries are on the third shelf on the right in the pantry." Jade raised one finger.
"Secondly baby brother..." His older sister said in a too sweet tone, as she walked over towards him with a menacing aura over her body.
'WHAM'
"OW!" Jaune hissed out loudly as his sister decked him over the head with a heated fist of fury. "What was that fo-"
"You know what that was for you dope! In fact you deserve another one!" Jade's eyes were full of absolute fury, with Jaune cowering from his oldest sibling. "What the hell were you thinking! Going out alone in the middle of night, and with no Pokémon on you! That's borderline suicide!" She hissed out. Grabbing his hoodie to shake the hell out of her Cubone headed baby brother. "The least you could of done was get me or one of your other sisters to come along! You know how dangerous Quartz Tunnel is! You could have seriously injured or worse!" Basically giving the boy whiplash and a tongue lashing.
"I-I g-g-get i-it please s-stop s-s-shaking m-me!" after a couple of seconds she stopped but still had her hands around the front of his hoodie
"Look sis." Jaune swiped her hands off of him, back away from the angry sibling. "I know how reckless I was tonight."
"Damn right you were." Putting her hands on her hips. "Doing what you were doing was not only stupid, but reckless. Your lucky not a single night life Pokémon attacked you."
"Jade. Please listen." He said with a serious tone. Her anger faded for a bit. It seems that her brother was being real here so she wanted to hear him out instead of just grill him.
"Alright fine, I'm listening." Jaune looked towards the floor, trying to explain to his oldest sister.
He just couldn't help telling the truth as to why he did this stunt, all of his sisters stood up to dad tonight, but Jade was definitely his biggest supporter when it came to Pokémon owning and training.
"I-I did this because I wanted to prove dad wrong." Jaune admitted.
"So you did this all out of pride?" She didn't think that was there is to it for Jaune, she knew there was more.
"Not just that sis..." his body shivered, and his demeanor changed as well as he started getting more passionate. "I-I also wanted to prove it to myself." Which definitely confused his sister.
"What?"
"When dad doubted me tonight, I was honestly shaken that he said I wasn't mature enough to have one." He explained. "But... the worst part wasn't that he said it. The worst was when I was starting to agree and put myself down." Jaune said.
"What do you mean by that Jaune?"
"When I went back to my room. I thought about giving up on trying to become a trainer because of what dad said. That I wasn't going to be good enough when I get my first Pokémon, and that I was too weak to make a challenge run towards the Remnant League." The blond boy was just starting to tear up a bit.
"I not only wanted to prove it to dad... but prove it to myself that I could do it! That I do have what it takes to catch Pokémon and take care of them, to be a great trainer and raise one. That's why I went to Quartz Tunnel alone, to see if I'm cut out... for a Pokémon journey." Jade's gaze softened as she saw the passion and drive that he had for this.
She can tell that he truly cares about this goal, and its a task that she'd love to help her baby brother accomplish.
"I'm sorry for being so selfish and for worrying all of you. I-I just couldn't..." Jaune tried to continue, but couldn't say anymore as his tears flowed and the sobbing started. "I couldn't just give up on something that I'm willing to work for my whole life."
But after a few seconds, he felt warm arms wrap around him. His teared stained eyes looked up to see the warmth in Jade looking at him with a big smile.
"While at admit little brother, while you did something foolish tonight." She felt him sulk in her arms, but the oldest sister only tightened her hug to show her love. "You have proven yourself that you can be a wonderful trainer, just with taking care of this Aron alone." Jade explained.
"You showed courage and compassion by trying to help this wild Pokémon and wanting to take care of its injuries just of your good will. If that doesn't show father your drive, then he can answer me in a battle." Jaune felt the warmth and praise from the big sister he looked up towards, feeling his confidence boost from what Jade was telling him.
"Don't ever let that spirit die alright Jaune." Jade said.
"O-Ok." He wiped his tearing eyes
She stepped back and frowned at him . "While I am still mad at you." A second later a small smile crossed her face. " I'm very proud of what you have done tonight. How much you have grown." Which caused Jaune to sniffle from that.
"T-Thanks sis. Your the best." Giving off a wobbly smile.
"Yeah yeah." She waved off. "Now, heal that Aron up and get it back to full strength, and in the morning you and that little guy better be ready for work, because I sure as hell don't wanna hear you whining about getting no sleep." Jade started going up the stairs to the second floor.
"Huh? What do you mean by that sis? After I heal this little guy, I'm taking him back to Quartz Tunnel." He remembered his promise to the Steel Type.
Which only got his big sis a little chuckle. "Trust me Jauney, I have a feeling that little Aron is gonna have a change of heart when your done." As went up the stairs, she passed the form of her mother leaning on the top of the stairs, startling the oldest Arc sister.
"How much did you hear?" Jade asked the mother of the family.
"Enough my little green gem." Juniper replied back, looking down the stairs at her son. She saw him release Aron from the ball and started grinding some Cheri berries together to make it a healing Paralysis juice. "Your brother is going to be an exceptional trainer in the years to come Jade, and I'm just here to see his first steps to becoming one tonight." The woman was full of motherly pride as her son was taking care of that little Steel type.
"Mom... I think Jaune is going to become a greater trainer than you think." Jade commented as she watched the boy give the drink to the hurt Pokémon, walking towards her room to go to bed.
"We'll see." Juniper said out to no one, heading back to sleep as well.
Back downstairs, the blond teen was finally done with the concoction of juiced Cherri Berries and mixing it with Heal Powder. This mixture always did the trick when curing status ailments from other Pokémon, especially paralysis. Jaune heard his mom call it 'Para Juice' and told him it was a wonderful drink, but when he tasted it...
It tasted so bitter it felt like he was biting into a lemon. Hopefully Aron will like the taste of the drink and consumes it all to make it feel all better, he crossed his fingers that made the recipe right, but if it was too bitter for the Pokémon, he could always give him a few Oran and Sitrus Berries will have him taste something more delicious.
"Here you go Aron, please drink up." He handed put the drink bowl down in front of its face, the little guy sniffed at it bit before taking drink. The little Aron's body froze slightly, concerning Jaune from this sudden reaction. He hoped the little guy was ok, it didn't seem like he had anymore electric bolts coursing throughout him so he looked ok.
"So how is it, did you like the drink Aron? Are you feeling any better now from that Dragonbreath attack?" Jaune asked as the Pokémon's blue eyes peered up at the human that took him. The Steel type looked at him for a few seconds before it closed its eyes and made a happy cry, its body doing little hops up and down.
"Aron Aron!" Jaune looked down at the little guy and couldn't help his excitement. He really helped the little guy, and he was looking much healthier compared to a couple of seconds ago as it looked like the status ailment was gone.
"I'm glad to see you looking better little buddy." He wiped the sweat off his brow there, thankful that Aron finished all of that juice. Now following his folks advice, he had another bowl of berries this time with Oran and Sitrus berries that were cut into slices. A sort of treat and energy replenisher for the tired Pokémon. "Here you go buddy, I hope you enjoy!" Jaune exclaimed towards the Armored Pokémon.
When the Steel type saw the berries it couldn't help but charge at the bowl and start pigging out. Bite after delicious bite the Aron eat and couldn't help but let off happy noises. After a few minutes that bowl of berries was nothing but air.
"Was it good?"
"Arron." confirming his question. The Pokémon couldn't believe how thoughtful and caring this human could be.
With a full stomach and his energy back to full and its body back to maximum strength, he could probably take on a full fledge Onix if that big bully ever came back to his turf.
He could be the best Aron there is in Quartz Tunnel. As he thought of that the little Aron looked back to the thoughtful human and smiled.
But maybe... he didn't want to go back to his old life. He just had feeling, mind you a small one. But perhaps this human could make him even stronger than any Aron ever.
Its just a rogue thought, but maybe the human wouldn't mind if it... stayed with him or something. Doesn't hurt if he was fed with these berries and some rocky minerals they have around the area as an incentive to stick around.
Plus, Aron could feel the kid's pure heart. It knew his 'master' was someone of good character.
But right now with all of the action it had tonight along with its injuries, all the little fella wanted to do is close its eyes and fall asleep.
Jaune saw the Aron go out like a light when it was finally finished. "Heh... sleep tight little buddy." The blond cleaned up all of the mixing materials and berries to make sure his parents didn't suspect anything.
He returned the sleeping Aron to its Premier Ball, and went towards the stairs to go to bed. When he went up it looked like the coast was clear as Jade didn't alert anyone in the house.
He was thankful it was his oldest sister and not Amy, she'd probably snitch on him.
As quick as a Ninjask and quietly as a Greninja he was able to sneak his way back to his room, with his haul of evolution stones and Aron undetected.
After what happened tonight he really needed some rest. So with that said he put his
(The next morning, 6:00 AM)
"CAWWW CAAWWW!" The morning Dodrio cried into the morning air, as the sun was starting to come up to start the day. Signaling the start of the day for the Arc Ranch.
Luckily one of Jaune's nicer sisters decided to try and wake him up as they lightly knock on the door. "Jaune, its time to wake up little brother." Noel said.
"Ok, I'll be out in a few minutes!" She heard her brother groggily said from behind the door, before heading to the bathroom to get an early morning shower in. She at least wanted to get some hot water before big sis Amy or Saph used it all.
In Jaune's room however, the boy was already wide awake with and looking at Premier Ball for a second before activating the thing to let Aron out of the ball.
"Aron!" The Pokémon said with happiness.
"Hey little guy, how are you feeling?"
"Ar!" Giving a rapid shake of its head and a few happy cries to signal that he was feeling much better.
"Good. Then I'll keep my promise to you and let you go back home." Jaune said with a bit of sadness in his voice. As he went to get his working farmer clothes.
But before he could, he felt Aron tug at his pant leg with its mouth.
"H-Hey... what's up?"
"Ar Aron!" It shook its head.
"You... you don't want to go back?" Jaune asked.
"Aron." shaking its head up and down, confirming his question.
"Then where do you want to go?" The little guy needed to go somewhere, it couldn't just roam around alone.
But when Jaune was thinking of locations of where to put the little guy, he felt the little Aron's head rub up and down, feeling the holes in his head scratch his leg slightly. But since the little guy was slow it didn't cut him.
"You...you want to stay with me?" Jaune asked with hesitation.
His answer to that question was a closed eyed smile towards him as it continued to rub its head on him affectionately.
Jaune's just felt utter joy. He couldn't really control his emotions as happy tears came out of his eyes. He crouched down to hug the little guy to his body, thankful that this Aron chose him to be his trainer.
"I-I promise that I won't let you down. I'm gonna be the best pokémon trainer there is on Remnant and you my friend will help me make it to the top. Are you with me on this long and hard journey?" Jaune said raising his hand for a handshake, to which Aron used one of its stubby feet to shake the humans hand.
"Aron!"
"Alright, and just so you know that's an Arc promise." A new team has been formed, one that will be unshaken because of a promise.
And Arc's never go back on their word.
And Scene!
Well with this chapter Aron joins the Blond Noodle's Brigade as the first Pokémon in the team. Wanted to make it somewhat emotional when making this chapter as this little guy chose Jaune.
Also don't worry these two chapters will be the last time we see little teen Jaune as there will be a timeskip next chapter of four years, in which Jaune will be 17 years old.
So the intro chapters will be done after this.
I hope you have been enjoying the story so far, sure this is more build up then anything, so I wouldn't be surprised if people are a little bored.
But assure you battle will commence next chapter!
Also what I will do is that if there is a move change or level change for Jaune's Pokémon or anyone else's of the main cast, I will put there Moves and Ability with their levels.
Just to give you a heads up.
Anyways with that said, like, comment, or review if you want. If you have any questions regarding certain things about the story you can PM me and I'll try to get to you when I'm available.
But for now this is Irongiant9000 signing off, have a good day everyone and I'll see you in the next chapter!
Next Chapter: Chapter 3: Budding of New Beginnings
