Ch. 3
'Wonder where this fool is gonna take me? Probably to some lame hole in a wall diner, something he could afford, perhaps even that disgusting Krusty Krab, although, it might make things easier.' Libby thought to herself, while she pretended to listen and be interested in what Spongebob had to say.
"Wow? Really, you made that suit yourself?" Libby sounded impressed, Spongebob blushed, "Of course, i mean, it's kind of hard for me to find something that really fits, and that looks good at the same time, and i wanted to look extra presentable for you tonight, my love." Spongebob admitted.
Libby cracked a smiled, glancing back over his suit, "Well, you look, very handsome." she complimented as she brushed her hand down his chest, before she looked towards his face, he was noticeably nervous, and a little sweaty.
Spongebob squirmed under her warm touch, the night hadn't even begun, and he was already tipsy. Being brave, the small man took her wandering hand and brought it to his lips where he placed a soft and gentle kiss.
Libby couldn't hold back the flustered feeling she had, when she pulled her hand back, she had to contain herself from making any disgusted expressions.
"Baby, there are no words to describe how stunning you look as well, I almost feel guilty for taking you to a restaurant like this." Spongebob said as they approached their destination.
"Fancy?" Libby asked, it was a beautiful fancy restaurant, a ship in a bottle, at night it was lit up with dim walkway lights, it was beautiful.
SpongeBob had gotten out to run to open her door to help her out, my was this place beautiful.
"I take it that you've never been here before, have you?" SpongeBob asked as they approached the entrance that had lights wrapped around the railings going into the restaurant.
This place must have cost a fortune, that and the limousine. How much could he afford? And all of it was spent towards her. She looked down at their hands that were linked together, his hand was soft and warm, so inviting, everything about him made her stomach act in weird ways, confusing.
She watched as he spoke to the host, which he seemed to be friends with, paying attention to the expressions on his soft yellow face, everything around her seemed to slow down in time, instead of speeding by like she hoped it would, but instead it decided it wanted to drag on which is something she dreaded, but the money was good, all she had to do was play her part and get through tonight, do what she needed to do to get that formula.
That included pretending to be in love with someone like him, he was so annoying and dorky, she could never be with someone like him for real, good thing this was only pretend.
It had been at least ten minutes since they had sat down, he was still so nervous, even after he was certain the date had started off right, now here was the hard part, getting to know each other, and he wanted to know everything.
"How is your new job? Did you get it?" he asked her as she was staring off to the side, watching as the band on the stage played jazz.
"Huh? Oh right, Its going ok so far, but its only temporary." she answered as she sipped on a glass of red wine, thinking that if she was going to be stuck here, she might as well have a drink, right?
"Thats great, I guess, but you said temporary, do you mean you'll be looking for another job somewhere else once you're finished?" he asked, Libby shrugged, "More than Likely, but with this job, I might be able to afford some studio lessons." she answered.
"Studio lessons? You mean for like music, right?" He asked, Libby nodded, "I've got the acting down but, I just need to practice singing, once I record my first album, I'll be famous." Libby began to explain, thinking that with the money she would be getting from her current boss, she would be able to make her dreams come true.
"Have you tried singing before?" he asked her, while leaning into the table, Libby shrugged, "A little, but never in a crowded room or anything." she answered, "you know, I would Love to hear it, I bet you have a beautiful voice." he complimented.
Libby chuckled a little, "You haven't even heard me sing, I swear, it's embarrassing." Libby blushed at the thought of singing in front of anyone, "I don't know, your voice is already beautiful as it is just talking, I could only dream of what you would sound like singing, I bet that you put all the deep-sea sirens in the world to shame."
Libby shook her head, why did he have to say something so sweet, and corny, "You think so?" she asked as she brushed her hair out of her face, "I know it." he answered just as their food arrived. Libby watched as he cheered for his food, she kept thinking about his words, 'you put all the deep-sea sirens in the world to shame', he didn't know what he was talking about, Sirens were beautiful and had voices of angels.
"Pardon me, Miss, would you like some cheese on your pasta dish?" the fancy waiter asked as he held up a cheese grinder, "huh? Oh, yes please." she answered before turning her attention back to her date.
"The food looks delicious." Libby said as she looked at her food, this plate alone had to cost at least thirty shells, "That it does, but it could never compare to a Krabby Patty, though. Up until now, I had never thought anything could be better, until I met you." Spongebob admitted.
Libby continued to blush, it was so embarrassing how many times he complimented her in some way, it was almost sad, was he really that desperate to get underneath her dress? She had never heard a man compliment her as much as he did in one hour. He couldn't possibly mean any of it could he?
"You know, I think you're right, about the burgers being a delicious, I might even say you're right about them having a much superior taste. I have to admit, I was starting to wonder how you made them, I mean you just make them so good." she asked while trying to change the subject to the sole reason why she was there in the first place.
Spongebob shrugged, "A little salt and pepper go a long way, we get our spices from land." Spongebob informed, "Is that the secret everyone has been talking about?" she asked, Spongebob paused for a moment, "Not exactly." he answered before returning to his plate.
"Wait, so there is a secret, I always thought that people were joking about it." Libby acted surprised, "Well, you're right about that." he began to say, she had noticed that he had started to become a little uncomfortable on the subject, how much further could she push?
"So? Does that mean you know what it is? Does anyone else know?" she asked, still pretending to be interested, she was new to town, so there was no way that she would want to use the formula for herself, anyone would be curious.
"Well, Yeah, of course I know it, I've made it so many times already, How can I forget?" Spongebob laughed a little, "Can you tell me? I love a good secret." she said, Spongebob shook his head, "I wish I could, but I cant. I cant tell anyone, not even my own mother." Spongebob answered.
"It must be a pretty big secret to keep if you cant even tell your own family, but why? Cant you tell me? Do you not trust me?" she asked, while beginning to pout. Spongebob awed at her expression, had he already messed up? Was that what she thought?
"No, NO! Of course I trust you, its just that, I cant tell anyone, its not my secret to tell." Spongebob explained, "People have gotten hurt because of it, and if I did tell you, you might even end up hurt." Spongebob said as he reached for her hand.
"Is it that serious?" Libby asked, Spongebob nodded, "Very serious, things have been done to keep it a secret, so much destruction at the hands of our biggest enemy, Mr. Krabs' Ex-bestfriend, Plankton, I could get fired just talking about it." Spongebob said before he steered them away from the subject.
"Speaking of jobs, Libby, how is yours going? You mentioned it was temporary, but you never said what you did." He said, "Oh, you're right, its actually a really annoying project that Im apart of." Libby answered.
"OOH, A project? I Love projects, what is it?" Spongebob asked as he leaned closer. Libby drew back a little, "Well, it's kind of a secret as well, My boss is a real pain." Libby informed.
"Oh? Is he giving you trouble?" Spongebob asked, Libby sighed and shrugged her shoulders, "I can handle it, it's just, there's this guy i'm working with, he's the real problem, he's really annoying, and he's just plain weird." Libby said as she began to dig into her food.
"Annoying co-workers? That must be awful, what does he do?" Spongebob asked as he slurped on a pasta noodle.
"Well? He just annoying, he keeps flirting with me and stuff like that and, he's a nice guy, but i know he doesn't mean any of what he says, I think he just wants what all men want, you know what I mean?" Libby asked.
Spongebob paused to think for a minute, "A collectable mermaid man and Barnacle boy talking action figure?" Spongebob asked, "What?" Libby asked, "Is that not what he wants? I'm sorry, if you're implying that he wants to be your boyfriend, does he know that you already have a.." Spongebob blushed, unable to say the words.
"I, I think it's safe to say that, I'm your.. Hmm." Spongebob looked back towards her, seeing him struggle with his words was a little cute, "You're my what?" Libby encouraged him to continue, Spongebob's face darkened.
"Libby, Look, I love you, and I would be honored if you'd let me call you my, uh.. Girlfriend." Spongebob said, "hmm, i thought I already was your girlfriend, you'd think that when a gal kisses her man, you'd think they'd be a couple, dontcha think?" Libby blushed sheepishly.
Spongebob laughed at the memory, thinking back to what happened at the krusty krab, "When you put it that way, it sounds kinda silly to question it, I guess it really wasn't a dream after all." Spongebob said, not wanting to forget that moment, he looked back at her.
"I'm glad." he said as he raised his glass to her, "To us, and may there be many more dates after this." Spongebob toasted.
"Heh, Right." Libby agreed, although, not entirely excited, but no worries, after tonight, she'll have that recipe, and then she'd never have to go on another date with this loser again.
One Hour Later
After they had finished their meals, it was time for them to go, but not before inviting her to dance, she hadnt expected him to pick her off her feet like he did, and spin her around the dance floor, she had only seen dances like this in princess movies, the way he held her close as they slow danced.
She was a little annoyed at first, thinking that their night was finally over, until he took her by the hand. There were a few things that Libby was, but a dancer wasn't one of them, but the way that he led her, made it seem like she had danced before.
The way that he held her body close to his, and how they danced face to face, his blue eyes stared back at her with so much love and care, how could anyone love someone they barely even knew?
"I'm really glad you gave me this chance, Libby. I don't claim to be the perfect man, but I would try for you, I know you probably hear this every day, or at least you should, but you look, beautiful tonight, and any other day of the week as well, and I just want you to know that, Im happy to spend this time with you." he spoke so soft while holding her hand.
"You barely even know me, How can you love me so much?" she asked him, unable to keep the blush back on her cheeks, "I may not know you, but I would love to." he said as he turned his head to kiss her hand once again, while Libby stood still to watch, she averted her eyes away, afraid her face would melt under all the heat and pressure she felt, maybe she should have held back from drinking that wine.
The two finally made it outside, it was dark, and the sky was filled with dim stars, Libby looked down at her hand when she felt him take it in his, there was that warmth again, leading her to look at his face, "I don't know about you, but I think its still kind of early, and I don't want you to go just yet." he said as he looked to her.
"What do you have in mind?" she asked him, he looked up at the night sky, before he looked back at her, "I want to show you something." he said as he began to lead her away from the restaurant, dismissing the limo that he had rented so that he could have more time with her.
After what felt like forever, and after cursing to herself for agreeing to go on this stupid journey, she noticed something strange. The sky around them seemed to grow smaller as they walked up a steep hill; she could hear waves crashing against a hard surface, she had never heard them sound so close before.
"Have you ever been to the surface?" he asked her, Libby looked at him, this guy had to be crazy, there was no way that they were going up there, she had heard so many bad things about the surface world, and here she was, with this creature, he wasn't serious was he?
"You don't need to be afraid, its dark, and everything is asleep, you'll be safe as long as you are with me." Spongebob promised as he began to pull her with him as she dragged her feet. It was clear that she was terrified, "I promise, I wont let anything happen to you." he said as he took both of her hands.
Libby just stared at his face, he was just so sure, and he seemed so trusting, "Close your eyes, and let me lead you." he instructed, Libby hesitated, this had nothing to do with the job, she could have told him no, but instead, she agreed and let him lead her with her eyes closed.
Libby gasped as she could feel herself exit part of the water, and she could feel the ocean breeze on her face, she felt his arm wrap around hers when he whispered for her to finally open her eyes.
Libby gasped at the view, the calm ocean waves dancing in the full moon, there were so many stars in the twilight sky that she had never seen before underwater, to think that all this time she had been staring at the stars, this is what she could have been seeing.
"Its so beautiful." she said, completely mesmerized by the night sky, until she felt him squeeze her hand, "It's nowhere near as beautiful as you, my dear." he began to say again, all she had ever heard him say, was how beautiful she was, she began to think that maybe it was true, and that he meant it.
Libby's eyes left the colorful sky to gaze upon his face, the way the moon reflected against his gentle skin, she couldn't help but to take in the rest of his features. Aside from the buck teeth, he was an average looking guy.
She froze in her spot as they locked eyes, he was so calm and relaxed, she began to sweat as she felt her heart start to race against her chest, she couldn't break from his gaze, it was as if there was nothing else around them, the way he held her, as if he was afraid to let her go, as if she was the only one in the world that mattered.
Her eyes fell to his lips, she turned her head to avoid looking at him, this wasn't supposed to be like this, he was annoying, and not even that good looking, he was far from her type, this was all just a part of the job, nothing more, nothing less.
Libby startled herself as she felt him place his hand under her chin, she looked at him as he turned her face to look at him, as soon as her face was level with his he pulled her in for a kiss. Libby melted under his lips like butter, unable to stop the short burst of pleasure that shot through her nerves.
In those short few seconds she recognized just how soft and firm his lips were, and how she could feel the amount of love he had for her, it was sickeningly sweet, she couldn't bring herself to think about wanting more, but was she ashamed of thinking that's what she wanted? More?
Spongebob slowly pulled back, he had never kissed anyone before, and he had never thought that he would be the one that kissed first, well she technically did first, at the Krusty Krab, but this was different than that. It was as everyone had described, only better, and he wanted to continue, but it was late, and he needed to get her home.
He held onto her, smiling after they had kissed, "Sorry, I just had to do that just this once." he said, but Libby said nothing, unable to speak, she just let him talk, "I guess its time I get you home." he said as he pulled back, and all she did was nod.
The walk back to her place took some time, and was completely silent all the way, it made him nervous, she hadnt said a word since they left the shore, did he make a mistake? Did he mess up? He should have asked before kissing her.
As they approached her door, he had stopped her, "Did I do something wrong?" he asked her, but Libby just stared at him, those sweet innocent eyes, he was clearly worried, "Was it the kiss? Im sorry if I upset you, I know I should have asked first, I know better then that-" "It wasn't the kiss." she broke his conversation.
"It wasn't?" he asked, relieved. Libby shrugged, "Well, it kind of was, but it was nothing bad like you think. I promise, its just that, I never thought the night would go as good as it did, I really had fun." she admitted as she took his hands in hers.
Spongebob sighed a sigh of relief, "You did? You had me worried all the way here, I was afraid I messed up, I really like you, Libby, and I want to see you again." he stepped closer, gently squeezing her hands, Libby smiled.
"I would like that." she said, "How about this weekend? Theres going to be a huge birthday party at my work, everyone in Bikini Bottom is invited, would you like to go with me?" he asked, "I would like that very much." she accepted.
"I guess I should get inside." she said as she began to open her door, but stopped when she seen the way that he was squirming, almost as if he didn't want to leave, "What is it?" she asked, Spongebob's face turned beet red, "I was wondering if I could.. You know." he hesitated to ask.
"If you could what?" she asked, Spongebob scratched his head, "Could I, kiss you again?" he asked, Libby smiled at his question, "I know we just kissed at the shore and all, and I know I should be happy with- huh?" he stopped talking when she placed her hands on his shoulders before she pulled him in for a kiss.
They pulled back after a few seconds, she couldn't get a word out when he pulled her back in, They kissed slow at first, he was new to the whole kissing thing, but had actually done some research the night before just in case.
Chills ran down Libbys neck as Spongebob began to pull her in closer, running his hand through her hair before he opened his mouth to invite her in, and from there on their kiss became more heated as their hands became curious while making out over the balcony.
His hands were gripping her small love handles as she began to kiss down his neck, loving every second of affection she gave him.
Libby moaned as he gently pressed her against her door. It had been a while since she experienced a makeout session such as this, and it escalated so fast. She had even thought that they might need to use the contraception given to her after all, if this didn't end in her getting that formula, she didn't know what she would need to do, that was until he pulled back.
Spongebob looked down at her small hands that had pushed off his jacket, he wanted more than anything to continue but, it was too soon for this, with that in mind, he backed off, Libby panted, resting her hand on her chest as she tried to catch her breath.
"Why'd you stop?" she asked, "Sorry, I got carried away." he said as he help place the strap of her dress back on her shoulder, "Its late, I should get going." he suggested, Libby sighed under her breath, "You sure you don't wanna come inside?" she asked as she rubbed the side of his face.
Spongebob sighed as he kissed her hand, "I would love to but, I have to get home to my snail Gary." he answered as he continued to kiss her hand before he returned it to it's owner.
"Ok, I'll see you on Saturday then." Libby said, Spongebob smiled, "I'll see you Saturday, my love." he said before he kissed her cheek.
To be continued.
