Chapter 35: Goodbye

"Tangle's log,

… I uh… really don't know how to write this right now… Ok, let's start from the beginning I guess.

Things have been going great recently. Eggman's been quiet, so there really wasn't anything to worry about since that mess on that island last week. Amy got a job, and Bocoe and Decoe started helping the Thorndykes with housekeeping. I think the best thing to happen was at a barbecue we had a couple of days ago…"

"Oh yeah, Tangle!" Chuck said. "Here, this came in the mail for you and Jewel."

He then handed the two an envelope.

"Huh? Let's see here…" Tangle said as she tore it open.

Moments later, she was shaking with excitement.

"Tangle?"

"We… we were approved to have the land where we plan on building our house!" Tangle said. "We can start building now!"

"Hurray!" Cream shouted as she began to hug Tangle.

"It'll be really lonely here without you two…" Ella said.

"We'll come visit really often! Besides, it's not like the house is going to take a day to build!" Tangle said.

Everyone then began to celebrate Tangle and Jewel's accomplishment.

"Heh… we got the land… but a lot of good that is gonna do us now… I mean, I guess the land is in the Mystic Ruins… but…

Alright, let me just come out and say it… we have to go home. Not like, to our house or anything like that… but back to our own world. Turns out, our worlds fusing is starting to become a real problem, and if we don't split them up soon, time will just… stop I guess. We would be living the same day, over and over and over again… and no one really wants that. So, as sad as it is to say, we will have to say goodbye to everyone soon.

When I first got here, I honestly couldn't wait for this day to come… to go back home, be with Jewel again… but now? Now, I…"

Tangle laid back in her bed and stared at the ceiling… she really didn't know what to write this time. At that moment though, Amy came into her room.

"Tangle! There's trouble!"

"Huh?"

Rushing downstairs, they got a look outside the window.

"Are those G.U.N. Robots?" Tangle asked. "What are they doing?"

"Someone is attempting a coup and trying to destroy Eggman!" Chuck said.

"What?!" Tangle asked. "Uh… what's a coup?"

"… Someone's trying to take over the country, they have the President hostage." Chuck explained.

"WHAT?! Tails! Give me a ride to the White House! I gotta help!"

"You got it!" Tails said.

Before long, Tangle, along with Knuckles, Rouge, and Topaz, were able to save the President.

"Don't lie… you think we're a nuisance, don't you?" Rouge asked.

"What? But…"

"All of this mess wouldn't of happened if Chaos Control didn't bring us and Eggman here…" Rouge said. "It must be rather annoying to you…"

"… Regardless of what I might think, I have to acknowledge just how much you all have done… for the whole world." Michael said. "You changed everyone's lives, gave them hope… gave them a hero. For that, I'll always be grateful."

"… You know what I think?" Tangle asked. "If… if it weren't for Chaos Control… if I never came here… met everyone… I wouldn't be who I am today. I wouldn't be living my dream… I wouldn't be building my own house soon… nothing. I'd probably be just wandering the world… not really accomplishing anything. Not only that… but I finally found out about what happened before I went to Spiral Hill… I even avenged my parents…

I think that is why leaving is so hard for me… cause this world… means so much to me now…"

"Tangle…" Michael said. "You mean just as much to this world, as this world means to you…"

"… Yeah, you're right." Tangle said, tears threatening to leave her eyes. "Thank you… so much for being so welcoming to us!"

"And thank you… for all that you've done."

After taking a moment to compose herself, Tangle made a decision.

"Hey… I have a couple of favors to ask."

"Hey…" Jewel said as Tangle walked out of their shared room.

"…Hey…" Tangle said.

"So… are you ready?" Jewel asked.

"No, I don't think I'll ever be ready for this…" Tangle said. "But we gotta do it…"

"Tangle…" Jewel said.

"Come on, the others are waiting…" Tangle said as she began walking to the entrance to the house.

When she got outside, she saw the others waiting for her.

"Got everything?" Tails asked.

"Yeah... let's go."

As they drove away, Tangle couldn't help to look back at the house… her home for almost a year now, one last time.

"You're… sure there isn't another way?" Tangle asked.

"I'm sorry Tangle… we really are out of options at this point." Tails said.

"Yeah… I gotcha."

Everyone then stayed silent as they drove to the meeting place.

Before they knew it, they had arrived.

All of their closest friends from this world were allowed to show up too. Chris' friends from school, Topaz… everyone.

"Hey uh…" Danny suddenly said to Tangle. "Sorry again about that whole thing in the museum."

"I already told you! That wasn't your fault!" Tangle said. "You had no idea what I was going through at the time… I didn't even have a full grasp of it!"

"…Right… thanks Tangle." Danny said.

The group then pulled each other into a hug.

Before long, it was time to go. After a bit of trouble with the machine, they were finally able to get it fully powered and operational.

First, Amy left… then Cream and Vanilla… then Tails.

And finally, it was Tangle and Jewel's turn.

"Time to go then… huh?" Jewel asked.

"Hold on… I just… I'm waiting for something." Tangle said.

"Waiting? For what?" Jewel asked.

At that moment, they saw the president's limo pull up to the area.

And Tangle smiled. "Them."

The ones who came out… was not the President, but a little girl and her two parents.

Walking up to the three, Tangle kneeled down to be at eye level with the child.

"Heya kiddo! Glad I get to see you one more time before I leave!" Tangle said.

The girl, in tears already, only pulled the lemur in for a hug.

"Tangle? Who's this?" Jewel asked.

"I never introduced you… Jewel, this is the little girl that I saved from that building. You know, after the Chaos incident?" Tangle explained.

"I'm Haruka!" The little girl said.

"Oh, nice to meet you Haruka!" Jewel said.

"Hey, I have a little gift for you!" Tangle said before digging into her bag. "I had the President get me set up to make copies of this, and I thought you might love to have it!"

A moment later, she pulled out her log.

"This, is a log of everything that I have done since I arrived in this world!" Tangle said. "There are some pretty embarrassing things that I did in here, but a lot of happy times. I thought you might love to read all about it!"

Haruka smiled and took the book.

"There's only two copies of that in this world! So take care of it!" Tangle said. "Oh, and that's my first autograph that I've ever given, just for you!"

"Thank you!" Haruka said before hugging Tangle and Jewel.

After separating, her father walked over.

This was actually Tangle's first time seeing the man… and he had a weird presence about him. Intimidating… but also calm and kind.

"I'm glad that we have the chance to meet." The man said. "I never got the chance to thank you for saving her."

"It's no problem, just what heroes do!" Tangle said.

The man smiled at this. "You really did bring a great change to this world… all of you. Thank you."

Tangle smiled at this.

"Uncle…"

"Uncle?" Tangle asked.

"She's adopted." The man said. "Her mother was a very close friend of mine… before she passed."

"I'm sorry…"

"Don't be, it's in the past." The man said.

"Hey! There isn't much time left!" They heard Chuck call over.

"Well… guess it's time for us to go…" Tangle said.

"Right… thanks again." The man said before extending his hand.

"No problem… uh…"

The man smiled.

"Kiryu."

Tangle smiled and took his hand. "No problem, Kiryu."

After shaking, they separated.

"Well Jewel… let's go home." Tangle said.

Before stepping into the portal, they took one last look back at the group…

"Everyone… thank you all so much… for everything."

And then, they stepped in.

Two days later

Chris had just gotten home. After having one last adventure with Sonic, his parents came and picked him up, before taking him home to get some much needed rest.

When he got to his room however…

"Huh?"

On his bed, resting by his pillow, was a book…

Tangle's log.

Besides it was a note.

"Dear Chris,

I figured you'd want to have this, to remember all the good times we've had together! Thanks again for everything,

Tangle

PS: I suggest reading the entry that I bookmarked before anything ;)"

Deciding to take a look, Chris opened to the bookmarked page, the last entry that Tangle had made before leaving.

"Tangle's log,

Sorry about cutting that last entry short. I really didn't know what to say… but now I do.

My time in this world has really just been a magical one. I've made friends, and memories that will last a lifetime. It wasn't always great, but even those memories I will always cherish, for the rest of my life! Though it may be sad to leave, I will keep moving on, cause the memories that I made here will live on forever in my heart… Jewel was the one that suggested I write that part.

Chris, if you're reading this, just know that I will be forever grateful for your hospitality… and your friendship. We all will be forever grateful. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you do in the future, but we all know you don't need it. If you show just a bit of the guts and determination that you showed us while we've been here, then I know that you'll be fine with whatever you want to do.

You will always be a hero to us Chris, never forget that.

Thank you for everything:

Tangle the Lemur

Jewel the Beetle

Miles 'Tails' Prower

Amy Rose

Knuckles the Echidna

Rouge the Bat

Cream & Cheese

Vanilla The Rabbit"

At this point Chris started crying again… and then he turned the page.

"Until we meet again buddy!

End of Season 2

BOY this season finale tugs on my heartstrings!

So, uh… I had the idea that the little girl that Tangle saved and her family could just be a big reference to the Yakuza series (if you are 18+, play it! It is so good!) and I decided to roll with it!

Next up is gonna be an epilogue for Season 2, I feel like the last episode of the season proper really is best described as an epilogue, so I'll see you then!
