And here it is! The resolution to that cliffhanger from last time! No, Godzilla hasn't appeared yet. But I just made his job a whole lot easier!

Rando stared up at the piece of military hardware above him, a massive green box, much like its predecessor, with turbines on the bottom and missile bays on the side. It had a crude painting of Godzilla along its flank, with the letters AMF printed next to its name.

Their ultimate weapon. Their best chance.

"Will it be ready on time?" said Tachibana.

"We're finishing the final check-up tomorrow morning," the ground crew commander said. "It should be ready after that."

"Good," said Tachibana. "That cuts it close, but it should be in time."

"I'll get it authorized by then," said Rando. "We'll need every advantage we can get…"

Rando and Commander Tachibana left the hanger and made their way out. Before they could fully exit, Rando's phone rang.

"Yes?" Rando said. He listened to the other line and turned to Commander Tachibana. "There's a Cabinet meeting in an hour," he said. "The want you there too."

The commander's brow furrowed. "Me? Why?"

"I don't know," Rando said. "I'm sure it's nothing. Let's go." Despite his reassuring words, Rando felt nervous. Something was wrong.

An hour later, they marched toward the meeting room with Rando's colleagues. "Any of you know what this is about?" he said.

"No idea," said Shimura. "Akasaka?"

"I don't know," Akasaka said, "Something's wrong. I've seen several of the ministers whispering amongst themselves. I didn't pay as much attention as I should due to the coming crisis. That was a mistake."

"We've been so busy trying to prepare for the threat from the sea, we weren't paying attention to the one around us," Shimura said.

"Now's not the time to be playing politics," Rando said.

"That never stopped them before," said Akasaka.

The meeting started normal enough, discussing the progress of the evacuation, their plans for the future, the usual stuff. Rando and his allies sat quietly, taking notes, and made the occasional suggestion. It all seemed typical. Too typical.

As the meeting was reaching its close, one of the ministers stood up and said, "We have some questions for Commander Tachibana about his plans for the threat, this Godzilla."

Commander Tachibana rose. He faced the bureaucrat with steely eyes, "Yes?"

"You plan to drive this Godzilla off, and refuse kill or capture it. Is that correct?"

Commander Tachibana nodded. "It is. With no prior plans for either, we're going to rely on the standard luring procedures. This operation is too dangerous and important to try anything else.."

"This creature is dangerous enough to evacuate the capital, but not enough to deal with permanently?"

"We have no way to defeat him permanently at this time. Fighting Godzilla without a proper plan invites disaster." Tachibana did not raise his voice, but his words carried the force of a man who would not budge.

"How long has the AMF fought this Godzilla?" another minister said.

"Since 1955, less than a year after the first attack."

"And you've never successfully stopped it?"

"No," Tachibana said. "We've thrown everything we could at him, but he always comes back."

"Our experts believe it is possible to stop this creature for good," said a representative from the Hero Public Safety Commission. "Especially with the full range of quirks our Heroes have."

Rando narrowed his eyes. He wondered if that claim of expert opinion was a bluff, or if some of their cronies went on the record for them. He hoped it was the former. But still, what were they playing at? They couldn't be bullheaded enough to try and take on Godzilla on their own. So what was their game?

"Your experts are misinformed," Tachibana said with a cold glare.

"Several high-ranking members of the military have also expressed confidence in their ability to defeat it. And a willingness to try."

"The AMF's weaponry is military hardware," said Akasaka. "And much of it is even more powerful than the standard models due to being based on stronger prototypes."

One minister raised a sheet of paper. "I have here a signed testimonial from several high-ranking generals that they can kill the creature."

"Many Heroes have taken down Villains with gigantification quirks. Immense size aside, this dinosaur is quirkless. How should it be any different."

Rando's eyes widened as it slowly dawned on him that yes, they were bullheaded enough to try and take on Godzilla. "This is foolishness!" he said. "No one's more capable or experienced at fighting Godzilla than the AMF!"

"Yaguchi makes a good point," said the Minister of Finance. "The AMF has more experience with this creature than anyone. Neutralizing the immediate threat to the capital is more important than killing it. Tokyo is too populated and important to risk unnecessary devastation!

Someone saw reason. Maybe this would be enough to convince them to stop this insane plan. As he looked around though, he realized how vain those hopes were.

One of the ministers close to the HPSC said, "The Minister of Finance raises a good point. However, as you've heard, the Heroic Public Safety Commission believes our Heroes are more than up to the job. On top of that, we have our standard military to rely on. General Mashira?"

General Mashira, a man Rando had always seen as more of a politician than tactician, stood up and, with a haughty turning of his chin said, "I believe we will be more than capable of killing the creature with our state of the art technology. Even if its skin is tough, our armor piercing weapons will pierce it. Should the Heroes fail, we will destroy it!"

Rando gripped his table so hard, his knuckles turned white. "That will not work! Godzilla has crushed armies before! Their armor piercing weapons are-"

"We also have reports from Heroes across the country of confrontations with the AMF!" Another said, interrupting Rando. describing them as stubborn and confrontational, creating friction where-."

"I admit some of our members have personal issues, but that doesn't change the fact that-"

"The AMF has admitted that they've lost control of several other animals across the country. Perhaps they ought to focus on those while the real Heroes-"

"But that doesn't change the fact that-"

"The AMF treats these monsters like invincible forces of nature! How can we expect results from people with attitudes like that!"

"You must understand that-!"

"You must understand!" For every objection Rando answered, three more replaced it. This was futile. They'd already made up their minds. They'd done it before he'd even entered the building. He'd walked right into a trap. They all had.

Rando sat down, hoping to preserve what little credibility he had for later use.

"Prime Minister, we recommend putting the Heroes in charge of the city's defense with the military as back up," said the minister closest to the HPSC. "The AMF can still take a supporting role."

A few ministers looked apprehensive, but most seemed approving. Rando stared at Prime Minister Okochi, hoping against all hopes he'd make a stand and stop this.

For a moment Okochi seemed to consider it. Then he shakily nodded.

"Very well. I will trust the Commission's judgement."

Rando's heart sank.

"Will the AMF be willing to assist the military in this operation to kill Godzilla?"

"We will not," said Tachibana. "I won't throw away my men's lives needlessly!"

"Very well. The Heroes and military will take over, and the AMF ought to pull out."

Once the meeting ended, Rando and his colleagues walked out, utterly defeated.

"Those idiots…" said Shimura. "Those self-centered idiots!"

"They're not idiots," Rando said, his fist clenched in fury. "If they were we wouldn't be in this situation! They're intelligent enough to outwit us, but too ignorant and arrogant to realize that they'll get us all killed!"

"We'll be lucky if only thousands die," said Shimura. "What do we do?"

"I'm going to slow down our pullout as much as possible and station everyone I can as close as I can get them so they can join the battle quick," said Tachibana. "Our reinforcements from the Pacific will continue making their way here. The others will fail. We need to be ready to fight."

Rando nodded. "Good. Try to keep it quiet. I'll also see if Kayoko can get me in contact with Marshall Pentacost. The Americans still have a carrier near Japanese waters. Shimura, has Ogashira figured out why Godzilla's coming here yet?"

"No. The analyst's resident psychic will be here tomorrow. Just in time for the fight."

"Very well. Good luck everyone."

Tachibana nodded, then donned his hat and left the buildingto do his role. Rando straightened his suit and walked deeper in to do his.

Momo put a juicy piece of meat in her mouth, savoring the taste as she let herself wind down after a long day.

After her shift, Momo decided to get dinner and found this nice tavern along the road. It's a shame Yosetsu was at Mount Asa evacuating from those earthquakes, he'd love this place.

Momo had her hair down, and wore a coat over her costume, as if she was just a regular woman getting dinner. It wouldn't fool anyone who looked closely, but few did. It was nice to be anonymous again. Half of the other patrons were Heroes too, some in costume, and some in plain clothes like her. They all wanted to rest and have a nice meal.

That day, everyone had looked to Momo for guidance. She was a skilled leader and stepped into the role without hesitation. Soon, her sector transformed into the best handled one in the whole evacuation. All Might sounded so relieved at how smooth things were going when she spoke with him.

However, all of that effort came at a price. By the time Momo finished, she could barely think due to the sheer mental exhaustion of the day's work. She just wanted to go home and rest the whole week away. Too bad that wasn't an option.

Less than an hour ago, the HPSC placed Momo in charge of planning the upcoming battle, giving her a folder filled with information they deemed useful. She had only a day, and would need to make do with whatever she could get on such short notice. She'd prefer not to, but this emergency was too urgent for her to remove. She'd made plans under pressure before, she'd do it again. Plus Ultra.

As she finished her meal, Momo glanced at some AMF soldiers nearby. She'd heard of their…tense relationship with Heroes and realized this probably outraged them, to be kicked from their own fight.

Momo finished her meal, paid her check, left a very generous tip and made her way out. The entire country had gone insane over the last few days. Quirked creatures running wild in the moutains, earthquakes with moving epicenters, an attack on her friends at Scaris. It never seemed to end.

Nearby, a group of rookie Heroes smiled and laughed in the way only rookies could in times like this.

"Can't wait til the fight happens!" said one in a yellow Hero costume with a hardhat. "In the Bonins, Heroes never got any real Villain battles! I'm ready for a kaiju we can beat!"

The others cheered. Momo wished she felt that kind of enthusiasm. She'd been a Hero for around seven years. She knew what sort of threats got what sort of reaction. And this? Nothing ever got a reaction like this before. Momo only hoped that she-

Momo bumped one of the AMF soldiers' backs. "Hey! Watch it!" he said.

"My apologies sir!"

"Hey," one of them, a woman said, her cheeks rosy from alcohol. "Are you a Hero?"

Momo stiffened. She considered saying no and avoiding a fight, but instead nodded and said. "I am."

"So you're one of the ones who took our place, huh?"

"Yes, as we were instructed," Momo said, "I realize you're probably angry about that but-"

"Upset?!" The woman threw back her head and laughed. "Are you kidding?! I'm glad we got replaced. We're not G-Force Hero! As far as I'm concerned, better you than us! If you had any brains, you'd avoid fighting too and stick to the evac stuff tomorrow."

Well, that was…unexpected.

While Momo stood there, one of the other soldiers said to the woman, "You realize we're still going to be fighting, right?"

Momo opened her mouth to correct him, but the woman beat her to the punch. "Come on! Didn't you hear? We got taken out of the fight, period!"

"And what do you think happens when the Heroes lose? You know full well they're going to get their asses handed to them! Or do you think they can beat Godzilla?"

The woman opened her mouth, then closed it. "Shit." She swigged her drink. "And here I hoped I'd never have to fight that thing."

Momo felt a twinge of irritation at the implied insult to her fellow Heroes, many of whom were the most hardworking and talented people Momo knew. Before she could say anything, however the rookie with the hardhat shoved her aside. "Did you just say Godzilla's coming here?!"

The AMF soldiers nodded. "Yup. Ol' nuclear breath himself."

All bravado and color drained from the rookie's face. "Godzilla…he's…"

The rookie turned around, looking shell shocked. "I gotta go and tell them I'd like to do search and rescue tomorrow. No, tonight! Right now!" He hurried out the door.

He knew the creature's name. And itss mere mention terrified him like that?

"Lucky kid," one of the soldiers said. "He can get out of this fight. We'll no choice."

"Yeah," the woman said. "No choice but to die…" She whipped back her head and laughed again. It sounded suspiciously like weeping.

Yep! The AMF has been taken off the case! Surely this won't go horribly wrong!

That scene in the bar is one I've wanted to write to show the difference between these AMF and G-Force. While G-Force embrace the fight (though less than Izuku and Haruo), these guys? They don't. They'd rather be as FAR as possible from Godzilla when he attacks.
