Rain poured on the tanks as they blasted away at their target, the roar of their cannons drowning out the sound of thunder. MBAW-93s, MBT-92s, light and heavy maser cannons, even regular tanks unloaded at the lumbering form in front of them. Yet the kaiju advanced.

In a command post at a (relatively) safe distance, Goro Yukimura watched the battle through his binoculars. "Flanking units, go!"

A trio of masers rolled up and raked the kaiju's side. The kaiju swung its tail into the ground, sending a rain of rocks and debris at them. The maser's retreated while the kaiju resumed in the same direction as before.

"Dammit. Why won't he stop?" Goro said.

"Sir! Command wants a status report!"

"Tell them, all redirect attempts ineffective!" Goro said. "Target is continuing its advance!"

"Yes sir!"

Goro turned back to the battle as the kaiju pawed the ground, sending boulders flying like they were pebbles. "Shit! Evasive maneuvers! Now!"

The tanks scattered as the kaiju rolled itself into a ball and launched at them. It slammed into the spot the tanks had just been and unrolled itself, skidding across the ground. As it slid, the creature's tail lashed out and smashed a retreating maser.

"Shit," said Goro. "All units, pull back to position 3!"

As the tanks obeyed, Goro fumed.

They threw everything they had and that damn kaiju wouldn't stop! What would have been an adequate distraction a week ago did nothing! Lightning flashed, illuminating the its spiky form, Anguirus reared up and let out a fierce roar at his challengers.

Goro supposed it could be worse.

He could be in Tokyo.

Gazer waved the civilians toward the nearest shelter. "Keep calm and hurry on!" Gazer said. "Follow the other Heroes' directions and you'll be fine!"

Ten minutes ago, this street had nearly been clogged, but now there were only a few stragglers left.

"Gazer!" His friend and fellow Hero, Longsilver ran up to him. "We've got to get out of here! Now!"

"Why?!"

A loud crashing sound answered him, as one of the buildings exploded, and a large shadow loomed in the dust.

Gazer's eyes widened. He'd seen the side effects of the ray. He'd heard the thing was big.

But this…

The dust slightly cleared, letting Gazer see its eyes. They almost seemed to lock with his. Gazer couldn't move. He tried to force his legs to take a step, he tried to make his fists clench, his fingers twitch, anything. But he couldn't.

"Gazer! Come on! Snap out of it!" Longsilver said. He was a shorter man, only coming to Gazer's chest, but he still tried to force Gazer to look at him.

Gazer didn't.

He kept his eyes locked on the leviathan ahead, gazing into the hateful pits that were its eyes. No, not hateful. Hatred implied respect and Gazer saw none in its gaze.

They were just pests, vermin who'd dare annoy Godzilla too much.

Godzilla opened his mouth as blue light gathered within.

Longsilver turned and ran for his life, leaving Gazer.

Gazer stood still, not moving even as the ray annihilated him.

"Hurry up!" Rock Lock ushered the civilians down the tunnel, into the underground shelter. The evacuation buses had already left, leaving the stragglers to hide in one of the many Villain shelters. Rock Lock kept listening to the approaching footsteps, and noted the fires growing closer. The noxious smell of smoke choked the air.

As the last civilians were arriving, Rock Lock saw another Hero, Scarab, coming down the street.

"Scarab! Come on!" he said.

"I'm coming, I'm- "

The corner of the building at a nearby intersection collapsed, sending a cloud of dust onto the streets. Through the dust, Rock Lock heard a pulsing sound and saw a blue glow.

Rock Lock heard a mechanical sound as the doors to the shelter started to close. Realizing what was about to happen, he took one last look at his fellow Hero, still rushing toward him. Scarab thrust out his hand, "WAIT!"

Rock Lock looked back at the rapidly closing door. He could freeze it with his quirk. Buy Scarab time.

He looked back up at Godzilla, as a deep sucking sound came from where the creature's head would be. He made his decision.

Rock Lock pushed the last civilians inside and let the doors close behind them, Scarab still on the other side. No sooner had the doors shut when a loud booming shook the bunker. Rock Lock hurried the civilians down to the secondary doors, which would also close soon, and took one last look at the now sealed doors as they steaming with heat.

Ochako flew through the streets, carrying Nejire on her back. It had been mere minutes since Godzilla first fired his atomic breath, but if one looked at the destruction alone, they'd think it was hours. Smoke from the burning buildings obscured the sky while a large portion of Shinegawa glowed orange. Said glowing area was rapidly spreading, heading toward Minato.

Ochako finally made it to a field hospital, far out of the way of the fighting. She ran to the decontamination chambers, where the few AMF personnel still involved in this operation were stationed. Said chambers had a rapidly growing line outside of them.

"I've got a severe case in need of immediate cleaning and first aid!" Ochako said.

An AMF member came over in protective gear holding a Geiger counter. He was a decent distance away when said counter went wild. His eyes widened.

"What the-how did she get like that?!"

"By almost taking a direct hit from the breath."

The person looked at Nejire, then looked back to Ochako with a sad expression. "Y-you do realize at those levels she's- "

Ochako nodded. "I know. They said they have a way to fix that, so I want to try and save her."

He nodded. "Fine." He waved to his colleagues. "Emergency cleaning! Bring medics!"

A team of paramedics in protective gear gathered around Nejire, working as they shepherded her into a special chamber made for patients who couldn't wait for first aid. Meanwhile, Ochako was brought into another chamber saved for first responders, including Heroes. She let the mist wash over her, and tried to steady herself.

Keep it together. This battle only just started.

"Target is moving northeast!"

"Evacuate the next four zones!" Toshinori Yagi felt like he was fighting a hurricane.

He was doing his best to direct Heroes, evacuate civilians, and mitigate the loss of life, but this was fast becoming an impossible task. Fires were out of control across the city, many of which couldn't be fought on account of the giant monster still rampaging near them. Even the fires they could fight would take hours to put out, while Godzilla made several by the second.

Toshinori had to admit, those emergency plans were well made. Every oddity in them now made total sense as he experienced their intended context. However, they were still imperfect plans drafted and executed by imperfect people.

People were dying by the hundreds, if not the thousands while the devastation continued to spread. They'd probably saved hundreds, but it was not enough.

Ochako tapped another group of civilians with all five fingers, floating them, then grabbed them and took to the air. To her right, Suneater had two civilians on his back while below Sugar Rush carried a group of his own. Ochako took the civilians to the evacuation buses, then looked back at the approaching smoke cloud.

"This area's clear!" said Lemillion. "Move onto the next!"

Ochako was about to comply when a Rescue Hero called out. "Uravity! We need Rescue Heroes to search Godzilla's wake!"

Ochako nodded. "Got it!"

She joined the other Rescue Heroes going around Godzilla. Along the way, she caught glimpses of his breath reflected in the windows, along with his tail ramming through the buildings.

Ochako arrived on a street up flames. She looked around for any sign of life.

"H-help…" An old lady lifted her hand up from a destroyed storefront. Ochako went inside and found another survivor, a teenager, lying unconscious next an older man, probably the woman's husband.

Said older man's eyes glanced to Ochako, then at the rebar piercing his abdomen.

"Take…them," he said.

Ochako nodded. She performed basic first aid on the woman and the teenager, then used her quirk on the two and picked them up. She looked back at the older man just in time to see the light fade.

Ochako handed the two she'd found to some other Heroes, then searched for others. Once she was done, Ochako took as many wounded from her fellow Heroes as she could carry, tapped herself and took off. Once she'd delivered the civilians to safety, she turned around and went back out.

This time she found a young couple and a small boy in an apartment building. She lifted them on her shoulders, using her quirk the moment she found a spot where it was (relatively) safe to expose her hand. As she floated them, she spotted another person, a middle-aged woman in a janitor's outfit with a bleeding head wound.

Ochako quickly patched the woman up then lifted her with the others. As she was about to take off, she heard more cries for help down the street. She looked back and forth between the people she carried, and the building the cries were from.

The bandage on the woman's head was quickly reddening, while the building the cry came from looked ready to collapse. She had to make a decision.

After several seconds, Ochako reported the cries to the other Heroes, then left with the people she had, hoping another Hero could save the person calling for help.

She went out again and again, saving anyone she could. She pulled citizens from destroyed buildings, performed first aid, assisted with evacuations, or anything they needed her to do. Each time she saw more people in danger, heard more cries for help, experienced more death.

This…this was a nightmare.

No, it was worse.

This was hell.

Amajiki landed on the street in front of a fleeing crowd. "This way!" he said waving. "There are evacuation transports a kilometer down the road!"

He turned his attention toward a small family, with two young boys and a teenage daughter with auburn hair. "You! I can take your children!"

"Thank you Suneater," said the mother.

"What?! We can't leave you!" said the daughter.

"Don't make us go!" said one of the boys.

Amajiki noted the tremors in the ground. They were getting stronger. Around him several other Heroes helped carry civilians away, including Ingenium, Emily, and Real Steel.

"It's alright," said the father, with a tremble in his voice. "He's just going to get you a little ahead of us. We'll catch up in a little bit. It's just a little caution, that's all."

"Yes, he's right," said the mother, clearly fighting back tears. "The Hero will take you to safety, then we'll come find you."

There was a loud slamming behind Amajiki, as a reptilian leg crashed onto the street. The grotesque head of Godzilla came around the corner, soon followed by his enormous body. He glared down the street, spines glowing.

"Hurry!" said the father, pushing the kids toward Amajiki, who lunged to grab them.

Before Godzilla could fire, several explosions went off on his face and neck. A tank rumbled down the street from the opposite direction, repeatedly firing its main cannon. Whether it was trying to distract him, or just refused to back down, Amajiki didn't know.

Godzilla's head whipped around and blasted the tank into flaming shrapnel.

Using the distraction, Amajiki sprouted some wings and took off, ascending as fast as he could. He saw Hawks carrying a large group with his feathers, along with several other Heroes. However, he saw many people still on the streets, including the kids' parents.

"C-close your eyes," the girl said to her brothers. "D-don't look, and don't worry. Everything will be fine."

She didn't take her own advice.

Amajiki heard the sound of Godzilla's breath firing. He looked down in time to see the beast's breath attack running down the street, engulfing everything, and everyone, in its way.

Amajiki flew toward one of the evacuation centers, while the children silently wept.

The Pacific

Admiral Mori watched as the transport planes lifted off, carrying masers, their crews, and infantry soldiers to the battle. These were some of the AMF's finest soldiers and, going by the reports, they were desperately needed.

As the planes grew smaller, Mori cursed the tardiness of their takeoff. They'd been supposed to leave hours ago! Unfortunately, mechanical failures had delayed them, forcing them to now book it to Tokyo and hope there was something left to save when they arrived.

Mori sighed. There was nothing more he could do. Now he had to just sit, wait, and hope.

Hope you enjoyed that look into the utter devastation Godzilla has now unleashed! Reviews bring me evil glee!
