*evil chuckle*
The transports were gone, the last civilians guided to the shelters. The evacuation center was finally empty. The few Heroes remaining quickly made their way out. Ochako lifted off with a group of Heroes heading toward an evac center away from the fighting.
Her legs and arms burned. Ugh. She could usually keep going a lot longer than this, but she was burning her reserves too fast. At this rate, she'd soon have to take a break to do less strenuous work.
Ochako spotted movement on a nearby rooftop. Heroes?
Shit, they were going toward Godzilla. She tapped her comms, but one of the other Heroes said, "Leave it! That's probably one of the ones joining the next attack!"
"Next attack?!" Ochako said.
The other Hero nodded. "Yeah, they're making one last push against him."
Ochako's gaze snapped to the rooftop.
She looked to the path in front of her, then to the smoke cloud where Godzilla was. Should she…?
Ochako stopped, and turned in the direction the Heroes had gone.
Koda and Ibara stood on the rooftop, waiting.
The roof trembled.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
Godzilla's head and neck loomed over the nearby buildings.
Ibara felt fear sink into her at the sight of its wrathful eyes. She clenched her fist. Godzilla may be powerful, but she was a Hero, dedicated to saving others in the name of the Lord. She would not cower.
She turned to Koda. "Your quirk compels animals to obey you. Is size an issue?"
Koda shook his head.
Ibara turned back to the monster, clasped her hands and silently prayed while Koda turned to the massive reptile.
"Stop!"
Godzilla stopped.
"Calm down! Leave Tokyo!"
Godzilla slowly looked down. It lowered its head toward them.
"I said stop!" said Koda, showing no fear. "Stop attacking this city! Stop attacking my friends! LEAVE!"
Godzilla brought his snout right in front of the two Heroes. It growled. The sound was so low, Ibara barely heard it. Nevertheless she felt it. It rattled through her bones and sent a shiver through her.
Then, Godzilla roared.
Ibara clutched her ears and dropped her jaw so her eardrums didn't' burst. Wind whipped passed them, nearly knocking Ibara off her feet. Finally, the roar stopped.
Ibara looked to Koda. He'd gone pale.
"run."
She heard the pulsing sound of Godzilla's breath weapon charging.
Mother of God.
Ibara opened the protective hood on her costume, unveiling her vines. She grabbed Koda, and threw them both off the room. Ibara rammed her vines through the side of a nearby building and swung over to it while Godzilla blasted the one they'd been on to smithereens.
Godzilla smashed through the building he'd just blasted, sending dust his head turned to them, Ibara lashed out with her vines, rapping them around Godzilla's forearm.
Godzilla's gaze snapped down. He looked from left to right and roared. Ibara and Koda plugged their ears again. Godzilla wrenched his arm free and looked around. He roared again, then blasted his atomic breath into the street and held it there, leaving a deep crater.
He turned around and fired another, and another, leaving craters as he looked all around while roaring.
"Vine, I think your attacks are confusing him!" someone said over the comms.
Ibara glanced over at Koda, who looked baffled. Ibara began climbing over the roof to escape.
Godzilla's gaze fell on her.
Ibara froze.
Ibara's heart pounded as Godzilla stared directly at her. It then lowered its snout toward Ibara.
Ibara didn't move. Trembling, she clasped her hands and recited every prayer she could, expecting any moment for her life to end.
Godzilla sniffed her. It tilted its head. Godzilla lifted his forearm to his nose and sniffed the vines still on it, then growled.
Ibara reflexively ducked between the buildings. As she did, a second Ibara and Koda appeared above her and swung out into the street using the copy Ibara's hair. Godzilla's beam engulfed the apparitions, obliterating them.
Ibara looked around, then saw Illus-o-Camie on a nearby roof. Camie gave the two a peace sign and ran off.
Ibara lowered Koda to the ground while Godzilla stomped away.
"He…he refused to obey me," Koda said. "He was furious I even tried. Such pride…such rage…I've never spoken with any animal like that before. I can't control him…"
Ibara turned from Koda toward Godzilla.
Lord, have mercy on us all.
Several blocks away
"Plan A failed, time for plan B!" Momo said as the last of the Heroes arrived.
"Sensei," she said to one in particular.
"Creati," Aizawa-Sensei said, nodding. He started stretching his back. Right, he was in his forties, wasn't he? Past the age many Heroes retired.
Will we live long enough to-
Momo dismissed the thought and joined Intelli to watch the other Heroes prepare their trap.
"Alright guys, let's do this!" Cupping her hands, Mina sprayed her slickest acid across the road. The entire street was coated in a slick puddle. Mina smirked. Let's see how Godzilla likes prat falls.
The Heroes finished their preparations and waited. Godzilla rounded the corner. Mina held her breath as his foot touched down on her puddle. Godzilla's foot slipped and the monster lost balance. It tipped forward and began to fall.
Mina grinned. Success!
Her grin faded as she noticed where the building sized giant monster was falling. Specifically, toward her and the other Heroes.
Aw crap.
"Scatter!"
Mina and the others ran for it. A combination of Pony Tsunotori's horns and Hawks' feathers picked them up and carried them away. Mina looked back as Godzilla hit the ground with a resounding crash.
Godzilla tried to get up, but Todoroki threw a glacier at him, freezing his arms and legs in kneeling position along with most of his torso. Meanwhile, Best Jeanist wrapped cables around him.
A sidekick named Rocket Arms fired two of Momo's new tranquilizer ammo from his bazooka-like forearms. Said ammo was basically a combination of a syringe and a rocket. The two shots seemed to hit the inside of its mouth, but they didn't slow the monster at all.
Shit.
Todoroki's ice cracked. Kaminari fired one of his Pointers into Godzilla's mouth, and sent several million volts of electricity into it. Godzilla recoiled with a loud roar.
His spines glowed blue. Best Jeanist's cables on Godzilla's back disintegrated. The atomic breath gathered in his mouth, melting Kaminari's Pointer. Best Jeanist tried to muzzle Godzilla, but the cables turned to ash too, while Todoroki's ice became steam.
"Eraserhead!" said Momo.
"On it."
Shota's eyes flashed red. Now, whatever quirk Godzilla had would be-
Godzilla blasted Todoroki's ice apart with his breath. Todoroki threw another glacier at Godzilla, this one partly encasing his neck so he couldn't look down and blast himself free again.
Damn. "My quirk didn't work!" Shota said.
Yaoyorozu looked at him in shock. She collected herself and said, "Very well. Hang back. There's not much more you can do."
"Understood."
Momo put a hand to her chin. Why Godzilla's nuclear breath was clearly a quirk, so why had Aizawa-Sensei's quirk failed? She'd have to investigate that later.
Godzilla continued to struggle. The ice cracked again.
Time for their trump card.
Ochako soared through the streets, using the thrusters in her boots in tandem with her Urarakawrists to fly from building to building.
She had to hurry! She couldn't fight Godzilla, but she could at least advise them! Even if their plan was better this time, this was Godzilla they were dealing with!
She saw a group of Heroes on a rooftop. One was wearing a red radiation suit, with the markings of Creati's Hero Costume.
There!
"Agonizer, are you ready?" said Momo.
He nodded. "Ready as I'll ever be."
"Good then-"
Agonizer looked up, just as Momo heard the blasts of two miniature thrusters. She turned around as a female Hero landed right in front of her.
Brown bob cut, brown eyes, black and whitish-pink bodysuit. Uravity. One of Nejire-chan's sidekicks. Skilled Rescue Hero and capable hand-to-hand fighter. Swiftly rising through the Hero rankings, didn't attend Hero school.
"Uravity," Momo said. "What are you doing here?"
Straightening herself, Uravity said. "I'm here to help you. I know a thing or two about Godzilla and can give you advice about him."
"That's right! She's close with the AMF!" said Agonizer.
"I was in the AMF," said Uravity.
Momo's eyes widened. A genuine intel source!
Uravity looked to the trapped Godzilla. "Not bad, but that won't hold," she said. "They buried him under a mountain of ice once and he still escaped."
"I see. Fortunately, the ice doesn't need to hold for long," Momo said. "Just long enough for the real plan."
"That's me!" said Agonizer.
Uravity's eyes widened. "Wha-Are you insane?! Do you have any idea how dangerous that is!"
Agonizer gave Uravity a thumb's up as Best Jeanist wrapped a cloth cable around him. "Something like that! I'm going to make that bastard feel every life he's taken!"
"That's suicide! What about the atomic breath?!"
"That's what Beast Jeanist is for," Mom said. "He'll attach Agonizer to Godzilla's back and keep him out of danger. Agonzier will use his quirk to inflict as much pain as possible until Godzilla is overwhelmed. Will that work?"
"I-I don't know!" Gravity said. "We've never inflicted much pain on him before. But we're pretty sure he has a hell of a pain tolerance and this is Godzilla you're dealing with!"
"Even so," Agonizer said, "Everything's got its tipping point! Time to see his!"
The ice around Godzilla cracked.
"Jeanist!" Agonizer said.
Ochako watched as Best Jeanist swung Agonizer down onto Godzilla's back. Ochako's jaw dropped as, for the first time in well over a hundred years, a human being made the King of the Monsters scream.
Momo felt a twinge of satisfaction as Godzilla thrashed about, roaring in agony. Whether it was because her plan was working, or some schadenfreude after Godzilla killed so many people, she didn't know.
As Godzilla let out his high-pitched roars, Agonizer yelled, "TAKE THIS BEAST! FEEL THE PAIN YOU INFLICT! THE AGONY! TAKE IT AND CHOKE ON IT! FOUL BEAST!"
"What a mad banquet of darkness," said Tokoyami.
Momo nodded.
Godzilla broke free from the ice and slammed himself into a building to crush Agonizer. Beast Jeanist dragged Agonizer across its back until he was safely on the other side, making sure Agonizer never let go of Godzilla's skin.
Todoroki refroze what he could of Godzilla. Godzilla continued to thrash with whatever parts of him were free, firing his atomic breath wildly.
Uravity stared uncomprehending at the scene before her, her mouth still open.
Momo put a hand on Uravity's shoulder. "You know Godzilla. What is his quirk?"
Keeping her eyes on Godzilla, Uravity said. "He doesn't have one. Godzilla's a literal dinosaur. He predates quirks by a long time."
Momo's eyes widened. That…that shouldn't be impossible. But it also fit! "And his weaknesses?"
"I don't know. Electricity looked promising once, but he apparently developed a resistance. Cadmium's still somewhat successful, if you can get it inside him. But even that doesn't pack the punch it used to."
Momo would remember that.
Uravity's brow furrowed. Like she was trying to remember something.
Godzilla fired his atomic breath again, but to no avail. The monster lowered its head and growled. It narrowed its eyes and charged its spines once more.
Ochako's eyes narrowed. What was he-
Her eyes widened.
Ochako lounged on her bunk. "Reading about old Godzilla battles again Midori?" she said while Izuku sat on his own bunk, his nose in a book.
"Of course!" Izuku said with that childlike enthusiasm he often had. "I'm reading about his second battle with Biollante. She wrapped her tentacles around him and he couldn't pry him off or hit her with the atomic breath."
"Really? What'd he do?"
"Oh, he has this other ability called-"
"AGONIZER! GET OFF OF THERE!" Ochako said. "GET OFF NOW! HE'S ABOUT TO-"
Godzilla's mouth briefly flashed as blue light spread across his entire body.
A gust of wind blue past the Heroes while the ice exploded into steam.
Then, there was silence.
"What…what was that?" Momo said.
"N-nuclear pulse," Uravity. "Sends the energy from the atomic breath energy through his whole body in a short range burst. I-I'd never seen it in person before… I forgot…"
A tail rose from the steam, followed shortly by three rows of spines. The steam parted.
Agonizer was gone. There was no body, there wasn't even dust. He was just…gone.
Godzilla rose to his full height. He slowly looked down.
"Everyone off the street!" Momo and Uravity said. "Now!"
Godzilla's spines lit up. This time, the energy did not gather in his mouth. Instead his tail glowed brighter and brighter.
"Oh shit." Uravity lunged down to the street and picked up a bunch of Heroes. Hawks sent out a flurry of feathers.
Godzilla wound his tail back.
Uravity wrapped one grappler around them then used the other grappler to yank herself and the others to the nearest building. Meanwhile Hawks lifted several Heroes with his feathers while Best Jeanist grabbed several with his threads.
Godzilla swung his tail forward.
A blue wave blasted from his tail down the street, obliterating everything in its path. The wave slammed into the building at the end of the road and blasted apart its foundation, causing it to lean over and collapse.
Satisfied with the burning lane in front of it, Godzilla turned to the roofs.
"Everyone off!" Momo said.
Next to her, Intelli stared blankly forward. "Why? Why does it just keep getting stronger?"
Best Jeanist wrapped his cloth around Intelli and the others, lowering them to the ground. Aizawa-Sensei grabbed Momo with his capture weapon. As Momo passed the lip of the roof, she saw Godzilla glaring right at Jeanist.
Lifting the other Heroes off the street, then off the roofs took nearly all of Beast Jeanist's threads, but he got all of them to the ground safely. However, he hadn't escaped himself.
Godzilla opened his mouth right at Jeanist, giving him an excellent view of the gathered energy.
Best Jeanist remembered the blast in Kamino that cost him his lung. He'd barely been able to dodge that blast. He couldn't dodge this one.
The energy erupted from Godzilla's mouth and the world became white.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
"Best Jeanist…"
Momo's mind shut down. There were no feelings, no desires, juts a frightful clarity of what they had to do. "All Heroes retreat. Get as much distance between us and Godzilla as possible. Don't try to fight him. There's no point anymore."
The Heroes fled as Godzilla did his level best to turn the street they'd attacked him on to glass. As more and more buildings toppled, Godzilla roared, challenging any fools who dared defy him.
Mina tried to put a hand on Momo's shoulder, but Momo brushed it off. What good would it do now?
They'd failed.
"All Might, Yaguchi, what do you need?" Prime Minister Okochi said as he approached the two.
Yaguchi nodded to Toshinori.
"You need to make the request," Yaguchi had said. "They might not listen to me, but they will listen to you. You're All Might. If you ask, they will listen."
Toshinori stepped forward. "We've come to ask you to give command of fighting Godzilla back to the AMF. Us Heroes failed. The military failed. We need the AMF sir," said Toshinori. "They're the best chance we still have. Please."
Okochi turned to Yaguchi.
"The AMF trained for this," Yaguchi said. "They will suffer losses, but if anyone can do this, it's them. Let them fight."
Okochi shakily nodded. "Y-yes. You're right. I hereby authorize the AMF to fight Godzilla, and give them full operational command!"
Yaguchi nodded and bowed. Thank you sir." He pulled out his cell phone. "Togashi, the word is given. Go."
Yaguchi turned to Toshinori. "Thank you for your help. It was an honor." He bowed to Toshinori.
"The honor was all mine. Good luck Yaguchi," Toshinori said.
Togashi hung up his phone. His driver turned on their tank while Togashi said over the comms, "Authorization is given! AMF, move out!"
That feeling when you think your annoying kid sister showed up, only for it to be someone who's hair kind of resembled her...
RIP Agonizer. You've fulfilled the purpose for which I created you! You may have died, but you certainly went out well! Meanwhile, Godzilla's nuclear pulse makes its debut! What'd you think?
