The G-Force convoy entered the city, giving them a close-up view of the flaming ruins and destroyed buildings. Formerly proud skyscrapers now lay in ruins, or had been reduced to burnt out skeletons.

And that was only what they saw.

"Holy shit. He's really pounding them…" said Zeni.

Izuku nodded. He'd only seen devastation like this in documentaries before. Seeing it in person was completely different.

The group continued, passed the occasional refugee groups as they approached the command post. Finally, they arrived. Izuku got out and joined Haruo, Ishikawa, and Gondo in walking toward the command tent.

Inside Ogashira and Kenji were waiting. Next to them, Creati gave a nod before turning back to a computer she was working on while several military officers stood around a battlefield map with grave expressions.

The analysts filled Izuku and the others in on the situation. Mass destruction, won't leave the city, really really angry.

Izuku tapped his chin. They needed to figure out what was going on with Godzilla. He and Haruo quickly devised a plan. If said plan worked, it might even lure him out.

With that done, they began to head out.

"Wait."

Creati turned her computer around to show some schematics. AMF schematics. "I've been studying your organization's files on Godzilla. These weapons, they were designed to inject toxins into hm. But will they pierce his skin" On the screen was a mix between a capsule, rocket, and drill.

Gondo looked at it and shrugged. "Outer skin? No. Those might be able to puncture some of his softer tissue but the materials were too expensive to-"

Creati turned her back to them and created two metal cases. She lifted one, turned around, and opened it to reveal two of those rockets. "I filled them with cadmium. I was told that could slow him down?"

Gondo shrugged with a sloppy grin. "Well, if you're offering it for free." He took one of the cases and walked outside with the others.

"You really think that would work?" said Haruo.

"No, not unless he was already depleted. But maybe I'm wrong." He placed the case in his backpack, slung it over his shoulder, and joined the other infantrymen.

Mina carried a bag of supplies to the main command camp. Due to the destruction on the roads, they'd been using Heroes with mobility quirks to carry materials. Since Mina wasn't fighting, this looked like a good use of her time.

Mina dropped off her load, grabbed another, then started sliding. She weaved around the people in camp, particularly newly arrived AMF. She recognized several of them, including the guy from Scaris, Ozaki.

Not paying attention, Mina crashed headlong into someone.

"Damn it! Can't you see-" the person she hit took several breaths. "I mean sorry about that."

Wow, this guy's blatant attempt to cover his temper gave Bakugo a run for his money.

"It's fine," Mina said. The guy looked familiar. Where had she-oh right, he was that jerk who'd ignored her on Scaris.

"Right," the man handed Mina her box then turned around, revealing the red and black decal of Godzilla, captioned with "Down with the King". He walked over and joined a brunette woman. The two started to speak and Mina, shipper that she was, couldn't help but eavesdrop.

"Good job Haruo," the woman said.

"I avoided one blow-up. Just how low are your standards for me?"

The woman elbowed him. "You really don't want to know."

"OOF!" the man recovered. "Did you have to use your quirk?"

"Maybe."

"Whatever. I promised I'd be nicer, so there."

"At this rate, maybe you'll be decent when I retire."

"That's three months Yuko."

Mina raised an eyebrow. That was…something.

As she made her way out, Mina took one last look at the AMF around the camp. She realized they were about to head into battle. But something was different about them from the others.

As she made her way down the roads, she realized what it was.

They weren't scared.

Haruo stepped toward his tank. Yuko climbed in. Haruo began to follow, then noticed a teenage girl nearby with auburn hair holding two crying children. Her face had dry tear tracts, but she wasn't crying.

Instead she glared at the smoke with a painfully familiar expression.

"You really don't want to wallow in that," Haruo said.

The girl looked at him. He glanced at her, then began to climb. "Find something important to do with your time. Also stay close to your friends, you'll need them. You can brood when you don't have anything better to do, but don't do it too long. Oh and don't be a complete asshole. Tried that, probably held me back."

He reached the top of his maser. "Advice from someone who also lost everything once."

"You guys ready?" Izuku said.

"Ready," said Yashiro.

"Ready," said Akiba.

Izuku nodded. "Haruo, my team's ready."

Haruo gave them the all clear. Izuku nodded to Zeni.

Their tank lurched forward, followed by the other two in his team. They rolled down the highway, toward the rising mushroom cloud.

Somewhere in that cloud was their first, and longest lasting foe. It was funny, no matter how much time passed, this war always came back here. Right where it started.

"Pull back!"

Akai lurched backward, while Ken fired at Godzilla's backside. Godzilla's tail lashed out, nearly smashing Ken. Two more masers fired past Godzilla. He turned and followed them.

"You alright Ken?" Akai said.

"Yeah, but my maser's almost out of power!"

"Mine too! What do we do?"

Jets fired down at Godzilla while he fired back.

They'd been fighting for hours. Even with reinforcements, their numbers were depleted. They'd become more cautious, but they were still losing masers. They were reaching their breaking point.

Godzilla blasted at the masers again. The regular tanks laid down suppressive fire, distracting him so they could to escape.

Then the order came.

"Everyone, pull back. G-Force has arrived." Togashi said. "I repeat, this is G-Force's battle now. Pull back."

Akai almost cried. "Toma, let's get out of here."

Toma nodded. Their tank joined Ken's, riding away from the battle. Soon, they passed a column of MBAW-93s painted with Godzilla decals.

Good luck guys, Akai thought. You'll need it.

Kenji watched the blips representing the masers approach the big G. Alright, this is it. Don't die Izuku.

Izuku rolled down the street.

There he is.

"Midoriya! Draw him southwest!" Haruo said. "My team will lie in wait just ahead!"

"Got it," Izuku said. "Akiba, Yashiro, flank him!"

Izuku fired past Godzilla's face, then pulled down a side street. Godzilla turned. Yashiro's beam flew passed his chest, causing him to do a full 180.

Izuku drove right in front of Godzilla and fired into his legs. Godzilla fired his atomic breath but Zeni swerved out of the way, racing down the nearest road. Their tank shook, but survived.

"Shit that was close!"

Izuku watched Godzilla advance on his viewing screen, as plan after plan raced through his head. All errant thoughts were gone, there was only the battle for Izuku.

They fired past Godzilla's head. Godzilla followed. He fired several blasts, but everyone easily ducked behind cover.

"Haruo! Baton's to you!"

Haruo's team's blasts slammed into Godzilla's flank. Godzilla fired his atomic breath, but hit only asphalt. He started to turn away, but several small flashes came from several alleys, Godzilla's chest lit up like it was covered in firecrackers. Gondo.

Godzilla roared and charged after his enemies. Izuku and his team linked up with the others, shadowing Godzilla from behind the buildings.

Godzilla began to wander off course. One of Haruo's masers fired a shot over the side, luring him back on track. He drifted off course again. Yashiro redirected him. He drifted again. One of Ishikawa's masers went out and fired a shot by his legs.

Unfortunately, it went out too far. Godzilla fired his atomic breath.

He didn't miss.

Shit.

Despite the loss, nobody hesitated. These teams may be notorious for their low death rates (something about excellent training and "those reckless suicidal nutjobs") (which Izuku resented since he wasn't suicidal), but all of them had lost friends to that kaiju before. It was inevitable in G-Force.

They continued their delicate dance, darting in and out, firing at Godzilla when needed. Godzilla advanced, always believing he was in control even as he went where they wanted.

At one point, he stopped. Izuku and Zeni rolled to a corner, ready to fire.

Godzilla turned toward them. Zeni pulled them back behind the building. Godzilla passed, not noticing them. Zeni readied to dart out.

"Wait," Izuku said.

Godzilla's movement was too slow, too deliberate. He was baiting them.

Sure enough, when Haruo blasted him in the back of the head, Godzilla let out an enraged roar and fired at him. "Midoriya, go!"

Izuku and Zeni rolled out and blasted Godzilla in the neck. Godzilla turned and unleashed his atomic breath, but Zeni pulled a hard right down the nearest street.

Yashiro and Akiba fired from the left and right, alongside two other tanks. Godzilla became even more enraged. His spines flashed as he looked from side to side. Oh sh-

"TAKE COVER!" Izuku and Haruo yelled simultaneously. Zeni pulled them behind a building just before the ray blasted it. Izuku heard the roar of the beam continue on and on. Finally, it stopped, leaving a circle of fire and rubble surrounding Godzilla. The street behind Izuku was filled with rubble, rendering it impassible.

"Midoriya, that last attack cut us off. We have to go around," said Yashiro.

"Same," said Akiba.

"Alright, try to go around and rendezvous as soon as possible," Izuku said. He changed frequencies. "Haruo, I'm fine but the rest of my team got cut off. They're going around."

Haruo glared at his displays. "Mine and Ishikawa too," he said. "Gondo's his men ducked into a subway, but the entrance collapsed. It's just the two of us."

Haruo looked at the path on his screen. He examined the nearest subway station. Right in their path and the perfect rendezvous point for the other masers.

"Yuko? Get ready," he said. "This is gonna need some fancy driving.

Yuko turned around. Her eyes widened at his expression. She steeled herself, then turned back around. "Just say the word Haruo."

"Midoriya," Haruo said. "With me. We're taking him to Kayama station."

There was a moment of silence. "Got it. Let's go."

Haruo glared at his mortal enemy. "GO!"

The two tanks shot off. They fired at Godzilla, drawing his attention. The two hid. Godzilla searched. Haruo watched him through the glass windows of a shopping complex.

"Midoriya?" he said.

"Through the buildings?"

"Through the buildings."

They fired simultaneously, hitting Godzilla's chest.

Godzilla charged. He aimed at Midoriya. Haruo blasted him in the throat. Godzilla tried to kill Haruo, but Yuko had already pulled them out of the line of fire.

While Midoriya drew Godzilla's attention away. Yuko pulled them out right next to his legs. With a roar, Haruo blasted Godzilla on the flank, stomach, and groin.

Godzilla roared with primal rage. Yuko pulled them away as he obliterated the spot they'd just been, along with nearly the entire block around it.

Godzilla chased after them. They popped back out. Godzilla aimed, but this time Midoriya shot him twice in the eye.

Kenji looked up. Was that…recognition? Holy shit Izuku, he does recognize you.

Kenji groaned. Izuku's going to be happy to hear that, isn't he?

Haruo and Midoriya moved in perfect tandem, reacting off the other with barely a word spoken. Nobody knew anti-Godzilla fighting like them. Nobody knew Godzilla like them. They were like two halves of one whole.

Godzilla blasted and roared, plowing through everything in his way. Yuko and Sekizawa's master driving kept both masers intact. The rendezvous point was just ahead.

Haruo's maser turned the corner, then slammed to a halt. The road had damn building lying in the middle. Hauro swiveled his tank around as Godzilla chased Midoriya.

"Haruo! We're here!" Gondo said. Haruo looked around, trying to form a plan before Midoriya got fried.

There.

Two larger buildings in Midoriya's path, both with severe damage near the middle.

"How close are you to those two tall buildings?" said Haruo.

"Right next to them. Why?"

"Fire at Godzilla from the alley. Lure him between them."

"If you say so.'"

Midoriya passed the two buildings, firing as he went. Godzilla followed. His foot landed in front of the alley. Several explosions went off against it.

Godzilla turned and roared. He stuck his head into the alley while his spines flashed.

"Midoriya, shear those buidlings!"

Haruo fired at one of the buildings and slowly dragged his maser across it while Midoriya fired on the other one. Godzilla slowly looked up, only realizing what was happening when the tops of both buildings fell on top of him.

Godzilla wobbled from surprise, but did not fall. He shook off the dust and glared toward the two masers. Several shots then hit his flank. The others had arrived. Godzilla turned and fired, creating a cloud of dust.

It was quiet. Then they fired at Godzilla again. Godzilla growled, clearly losing patience. He unleashed a barraged that managed to pin several down. Fortunately, another wave of air support arrived.

"Bombard him," Haruo said.

The jets sent a barrage of missiles down on Godzilla. With Godzilla's attention was diverted, the others escaped.

Haruo and Midoriya took the lead with the others covering them. Haruo roared as he repeatedly hit Godzilla in his damn face. Finally they reached the bay.

"I want two planes to shoot him, then fly right past his head over the ocean," Haruo said. "Get him to follow you."

He'd heard Godzilla wasn't going into the sea, but he had to see it for himself. He needed to observe Godzilla's behavior.

"Are you insane?! We'll get blown to bits!"

"Me and Midoriya will handle that," Haruo said. "Now go."

He told Midoriya his plan. Midoriya agreed. Haruo wondered if he should be concerned how easily he did so. Then again, Haruo was no better.

Two jets bore down on Godzilla. When he looked up, Haruo and Midoriya shot his eyes, briefly blinding him. The jets fired missiles into him, then flew past his shoulders.

Godzilla's spines flashed. He fired his atomic breath at them, but they avoided it.

Godzilla roared with rage. He moved to follow the jets, but stopped at the shore. He looked to the sea, then back to shore, locked in indecision. Finally, he glared at the shore and turned back.

"So, something is drawing him there…" Haruo said.

"It's not a kaiju or a quirk," said Saegusa. "Me and Ogashira checked."

"And it doesn't attract him to itself!" Midoriya said. "It just draws him and the other kaiju to Tokyo, possibly riles them up, then-"

Silence.

"Guys? I think I just figured it out…"

"What is it?" said Haruo. Dread sunk in. He better not be thinking that.

"There's a psionic transmitter in Tokyo."

The worst-case scenario.

Kenji froze. Every piece of the puzzle now fit.

"That's not possible." Ogashira said. "That technology has been lost for over a hundred years. The information required to even begin building one is carefully guarded."

"Well, can you think of another explanation that makes sense?"

"He's right," Kenji said. It was so obvious he felt like an idiot for not guessing it sooner. But, as Ogashira said, that tech had been lost for over a century. It seemed insane someone would-

"I don't understand," said Creati. "What's a psionic transmitter?"

"Monster attracting device," said Ogashira. "It draws kaiju within a certain radius, then provokes them so they'll go wild and cause mass destruction. It was designed by a traitor turned global terrorist."

"How long can it work?" Creati said.

Kenji clenched his teeth. "One battle lasted a whole week. And given that it's drawing kaiju across Japan here…"

Creati's mouth opened. Then closed. "So, this was…deliberate."

"Yes," Ogashira said. "From someone with intimate knowledge of kaiju."

"Does that matter right now?" Kenji said.

They looked at him.

"Regardless of who did this, our situation is the same. Either we find that transmitter and break it, or else…"

He didn't need to finish that sentence.

I love letting those two FINALLY fight Godzilla together. It fits too. Both are incredibly determined and canonical geniuses. They could probably be great friends...

(fun fact, that girl Haruo advises? That's the girl Tamaki saved. After writing them losing their parents I felt a scene with Haruo would be fitting)
