DISCLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter
The day had arrived. At the Gull's home, John and Isaac were packing the last of their things before Ken arrived to take them to the station to get their train to school. After a little struggle with getting his cat, Hecate, into her pet carrier, the boys had everything ready and just needed to wait for John's uncle. The boys moved their luggage into the living room when the loud cracking sound of Ken's apparition was heard behind them.
"Hey boys, I trust you're ready to go." Asked Ken
"Yeah, got everything." Said Isaac
"Same here." Said John
"Good, then we don't want to waste any time, grab your stuff and hold tight."
The boys did as Ken instructed before Ken grabbed their shoulders and disapparated from the Gull's home, they arrived in a hidden area within King's Cross, a special area that muggles couldn't see from outside, before they approached Platforms 9 and 10.
"Well boys, you know the drill." Said Ken.
Isaac went first, charging into the barrier and into Platform 9 and three quarters. John followed behind followed by Ken. Just like last year, John felt his excitement build as he set his eyes on the red steam engine. Isaac rushed onto the train to find an available compartment for him and John to sit for their ride. John turned to his uncle and gave him a hug.
"Good luck this year, kiddo." Said Ken, returning his nephew's hug.
"Thanks Ken, I just hope it goes easier than last year."
Ken gave a chuckle as John broke the hug, grabbed his stuff and got on the train. As he stepped on the train, he turned back to see Ken waving at him. John quickly found the compartment Isaac had saved for them. Isaac was reading while John stored his luggage.
"Hey boys."
The boys looked to see the familiar blonde pigtails and white framed glasses of their friend.
"Octavia, it's great to see you." Said Isaac
The trio shared a group hug.
"How have things with you?" asked John
"Great, my sister, Azolia, has been performing more acts of magic, there is no doubt she will be joining us at Hogwarts in a couple of years."
"That's brilliant, maybe she'll get into Ravenclaw like you."
"I hope so."
The trio of friends continued to talk until the Hogwarts Express left King's Cross and started the journey to Hogwarts. Once the train arrived at its destination, the students got off and were led to the nearby carriages that took the second years and older to the castle. A couple of the students seemed a bit creeped out by something, John could even hear someone talking about the creepy winged horses, but John, Isaac and Octavia couldn't see any horses at all, winged or otherwise. The trio got into a carriage, along with a couple extra students, before the carriages all started to pull themselves towards the castle. Once they arrived, they were escorted to the Great Hall, where the first years soon arrived and were put through the Sorting Ceremony. When the sorting ceremony ended, Headmistress McGonagall stood up to give her speech to the students.
"And so, a new year begins at Hogwarts, the staff all look forward to what this year has in store and we hope you all share the same excitement, now, first off, I would like to address our loyal Charms Professor, Filius Flitwick, after a long and noble career here teaching Charms class as well as being the Head of Ravenclaw, Professor Flitwick will be retiring at the end of the school year, so for this year, he will be joined by his new assistant Professor, Louie Light, who will act as the permanent Charms Professor starting next year, while Flitwick's role as Head of Ravenclaw will be filled by Deputy Headmaster and Professor of the Study of Ancient Runes, Marin Ironbark. Also, as many of you will know, but the first years will not, tragically, during the previous school year, we lost our Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Solstace Cassowary, a temporary replacement from the Ministry of Magic has been assigned for this school year until a permanent replacement can be appointed, however, he hasn't seemed to arrive yet, but I can assure you…"
The Headmistress' speech was interrupted when the doors to the Great Hall flew open and the air suddenly got cold, and everyone went silent in fear when the creature flew into the hall. Isaac recognized the monster from Diagon Alley. McGonagall turned to grab her wand from the table behind her when the Dementor flew towards her quickly, it would have gotten to her before she could cast anything, if not for…
"EXPECTO PATRONUM!"
The Dementor was taken out by a shiny, translucent deer, which drove the shadowy monster away. The students looked to the caster of the Patronus, he appeared to be in his mid-40s and had dark hair, green eyes and glasses, dressed in a respectable suit. As he approached McGonagall to see if she was alright, John could just make out what looked like a scar on his forehead.
"Professor, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, thank you, glad you were able to make it after all."
"I apologize, one of the aurors is assigned to find a potential fugitive in Hogsmeade, I was catching up with him to see how he was coming along."
"Well, at least you're here now…"
McGonagall turned to face the students.
"…everyone, allow me to introduce your temporary Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Harry Potter!"
