Ch1
Alabastar Torrington brought his golden sword down on the skeletal warriors. Sweat formed on his brow as he swung the mighty blade and broke the skeleton sending dust everywhere around him. Breathing heavily the young boy cleaned the sweat off his face as his siblings clapped around him.
"Good job Alabaster," said a woman wearing a dark cloak and had flowing black hair. "You will make our mother proud I know it, you by far have the most talent I've seen in one of her children in a long time."
He nodded. "Thank you, Aunt Medea." A sense of pride filled up inside of him at his aunt's praise, despite being on the younger side he still did his best to train to be an example to his siblings and the world of his mother.
Medea clapped her hands. "Alright lets continue practicing later, I've prepared us all some lunch."
Smiles spread across his sibling's faces as a large table materialized with a bunch of food and drink on it, the smell was enough to make his stomach growl.
He quickly went to grab some food when he noticed his sister Lou Ellen come up to him. "Good job, I wish I could be as strong as you," she said with a wide smile.
"Uh its nothing I just practice a lot," he said as he grabbed some bread.
"Hey Al do want to sit with me and the others?" Lou asked.
He shook his head. "Nah I want to eat alone."
Lou frowned. "Oh ok."
He found himself a quiet place and began to eat in peace. Medea held her workshops all over the place to train the children of Hecate and to make sure they were taken care of and knew how to defend themselves. This time they were in an abandoned mall near Philadelphia, it had been recently abandoned and after a few enchantments and protections it was a nice place for them.
"You know Alabaster you really should socialize with your other siblings some more," Medea said, appearing from the shadows around him. "They look up to you."
He avoided her gaze. "I prefer being alone."
His aunt looked at him with her deep eyes. "There isn't much place for a child of Hecate in this world," Medea muttered. "Sadly even on Olympus there isn't a place for her and in that camp no place for her children. We are all one big family, all we have is each other."
He frowned as his blood boiled inside of him. He had heard there was a camp for demigods but at the same time he heard his mom wasn't respected there. How could they be so callous and ignorant?
She has always been there for me, for all of us. How could they not accept her? Mother helped those ingrates in the past and don't even respect her.
"M-Maybe they don't now how good she is," he said softly. Frankly it was the only conclusion he could make.
Medea sighed. "Your mother helped the Olympians one time and look how easily they forgot about her." His aunt shook her head. "Anyway Alabaster you've been on the road for a while since your father passed away. Have you thought about continuing school?"
He frowned. "I'm good learning from you and mother, a mortal school wouldn't be of much use to me."
Medea placed a hand on his shoulder. "Never close off a route you can't fully see the end of. I know your mother wants her children to be happy. Come on lets offer sacrifices to your mother."
He nodded and got up with the remaining food on his plate. Medea raised her hand and a green flame sprouted from where a fountain once was. Mother please guide me. I want to make you proud, help me be stronger for you and my siblings. I want to make everyone aware of how great you are and make others respect you. He threw his food into the flames as his siblings followed suit.
That night he found himself in his mother's hall. It was a large cathedral lit by torches with green flames and a large pyre in the middle. His mother Hecate was resting by the altar muttering something in a mixture of Ancient Greek and Latin.
His heart raced as he approached her and bowed deeply. "Mother."
Hecate turned to him and smiled. "How is the workshop?"
"Good. Aunt Medea is a good teacher," he said. "How are you mother? Do you need anything?"
"Things are changing. Ever since Zeus' bolt went missing the roads of destiny have been expanding." Hecate waved her hand and the flames grew. "A great calamity may fall upon us and the others. I fear for you and your siblings if things go south."
His posture stiffened. "Mother whatever you command I'll do it. I'll help defend our family and make the world fear your name. What can I do to make those fools recognize you?"
Hecate smiled at him. "I know dear." Her eyes were soft and for once he saw unease in them. She came closer and gently pressed her fingers against his forehead. "There are many paths we can take now, we are at an important crossroads."
His eyes widened as he saw visions of fire and torment. His siblings marching under the banner of a scythe, he could hear their screams and sorrow as they fell dead. He recognized many of them falling one by one under that banner. It drove him mad, he wanted to tear up and cry as he watched them fall one by one against the enemies.
Hecate pulled her hand away and he stumbled back his body shaking as he gripped his chest. "Wh-What kind of future is that?" He cleaned his face. "Everyone will die. Mother, your children my siblings will die."
His mother's eyes flickered. "That is one possibility to my greatness, for the Olympus to recognize me. However, there is always another road." Turning around to the pyre she raised her hand over the flames. "I saw a thread, a small thread that might be the key to my children's safety and my own."
"What is it?" He asked. "Whatever it is I'll make sure we are all safe and you are honored." I may be young but I will fight for you.
She smiled at him. "You."
He stared at her expecting her to say more but his mother was never one of many words. "What do I need to do."
With a flick of her hand the flames changed. "I see a boy whose future will determine the fate of many, including my own and that of our little family. He isn't aware of his destiny I want you to find him."
His eyes widened. "I'll do it," he said immediately. "I'll make sure we are all protected and that you get the recognition you deserve." You're the best mother in the world if only they could see it.
His mother smiled. "I'm counting on you."
The next morning he packed his things with the supervision of his aunt. "I'll make the preparations," she said.
"Al where are you going?" Lou Ellen asked.
"On a mission for our mom in New York," he said as he finished making the runes on his jacket and bullet proof vest.
Lou's eyes lit up. "To that camp?"
He frowned and shook his head. "No a place called Yancy Academy."
"Oh." His sister scratched her head. "Well be safe. Later we should do some magic together. Auntie Medea was showing me this nice spell that can predict the future."
He smiled at her and went to give her a hug. "Just keep practicing those spells ok?" Lou Ellen smiled at him and nodded.
"Do you have everything?" Medea asked.
He sighed. "Yup." Taking out his mistform cards he played with them in his hand. "I'm prepared for anything." He put them away in his pocket and looked up at his aunt. "Alright I'm ready."
After saying goodbye to his siblings he went with his aunt to her Mercedes. It was modified with a bunch of spells to go faster than necessary so they sped through Pennsylvania and the New York countryside with ease.
"Alabaster be careful, there is contention among the Olympians," Medea said. "Your mother has been wisely staying out of it, I guess there is a benefit for not being recognized."
He took out his cards and began to flip through them. "So I heard." He shuffled the deck and pulled out the card that contained his sword. "Don't worry I'll get through it."
By the time it was night they had reached Yancy Academy. As soon as they stepped out of the car his aunt began to manipulate the mist and chanted some spells.
Upon entering the school's office his aunt smiled. "Good evening thank you for letting me see my son for the day," Medea said with a wide smile.
The office attendant's gaze glazed over. "Of course mam."
After a few more pleasantries and gaining a copy of his classes and other information Medea waved him goodbye. Alright lets do this. He didn't know who he was supposed to find but for his mother he'd do anything even attend some mortal school.
He walked through the halls when he heard a commotion from down the hall. "Bring it on Jackson I'll take you and your retard friend."
Up ahead a big ugly girl was facing a kid with black hair who in turn was looking after a seemingly crippled kid. The kid with the crutches looked up at him and the color drained from his face. Normally the mist should cover him as a normal student that had been here for ages but one look from this one said that he saw through it.
Oh great a satyr. He knew of their disguises and had run into a few of them but managed to lose them since he had no desire to be in that camp. Better defuse this. If the satyr had a good impression of him then maybe he could avoid him in the future.
"Hey what's going on?" he stepped up to the kid with the black hair.
The kid was around his age and his gaze dimmed. "Wh-Who are you?"
"Beat Torrington or you'll regret it," The girl said.
He muttered a quick enchantment. "It's late why don't you leave these two alone," he said his voice sounding as sweet as honey. The girl's eyes glazed over and she muttered something before turning around and leaving.
As soon as he was alone he turned to the two kids and looked them over. "Sorry I just got back from my aunt's place."
The black haired kid nodded. "Y-Yeah your name was."
"Alabaster. Alabaster Torrington."
"I'm Percy and this is Grover," the kid said his eyes glazing over while the satyr eyed him cautiously.
Grover nodded his gaze cautious as if expecting some sort of attack. Kid must be a demigod. Lucky him he may get to go to camp and live in a cabin with his godly parent being recognized. He pushed down the resentment. "See you around." Percy nodded and he noticed Grover gripped his crutches tightly.
Thanks to his aunt's manipulation he was seen as an ordinary student. The students and faculty both saw him as a normal student. It's almost like the old days when dad was still alive.
He was in Latin in class paired with Percy and Grover, he kept his distance from them but the teacher Mr. Brunner seemed to always put them together. The wheel chair bound teacher was interesting, he could tell that he didn't believe he was a long time student but since he didn't bother him he didn't care.
Percy scratched his head as he tried to translate the Latin. "How is this supposed to go again?" He shook his head in frustration his face reddening.
"Here this one is about Charon the boatman in Hades," He said. "Chiron was the instructor."
"Th-Thanks," Percy said. The kid looked up at him and frowned. "Where were you from again?"
"Out of town. I live with my aunt since my father passed away and I don't always see my mother," he said. Grover looked at him and as Mr. Brunner watched them from his desk. "I mostly live with extended family and my aunt."
"I see." Percy scratched his head.
He nodded. "You?"
Percy frowned. "My mom married my stepdad but he's a piece of work."
"I get that. Some of my family have stepparents that don't like them," he said. The worst were the religious nuts who thought children of Hecate were demons that should be exercised or burned.
"Yeah my stepdad is an animal," Percy said in disgust. "Why my mom married him is beyond me."
"You two close?" He asked as he finished filling in the answers for Percy, unlike him children of Hecate didn't have much problem with dyslexia since they knew Latin and Ancient Greek.
"Yeah she's the best," Percy said softly his gaze shifting downward. "I know I have rotten luck and am not the best student but I want to make her proud somehow. She always did so much for me."
He looked up at him and gave him a sympathetic look. "I get that, I want to make my mom proud too. Not everyone understands or appreciates her."
Percy looked up at him and then at the cards that he had taken out. "You play poker?"
"I do but these are a gift from my mother," he said as he shuffled them and put them away. The bell rang. "Come on lets get lunch."
For the most part he enjoyed Percy's company. The kid definitely was one of those down on his luck since he wasn't aware of the true causes of the misfortunes in his life.
Is he the one that mom told me about? He frowned as he placed his cards in front of him, he was in an empty classroom and getting ready for a trip and so far he had heard nothing from his mother. He sighed and turned the cards over, he never was the best at divination, especially with tarot cards.
He continued his investigation cautiously doing his best to not arose suspicion from the satyr who despite being calmer around him still eyed him cautiously and always kept close to Percy. Eventually they all had a field trip to a museum in New York and as usual that fat girl Nancy was trying to provoke Percy.
"Calm down you can't get expelled," Grover bagged as he tried to hold his friend back.
"Bring it on Jackson you and your loser friend are nothing," Nancy said.
Geez this is annoying. He cleared his throat and placed a hand on Percy's shoulder. "I got this." He turned to Nancy. "Sit down or else."
"Or else what?" Nancy mocked. "You going to cry to mommy?"
His gaze narrowed. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw Grover and Mr. Brunner look as if they were about to interfere. "Templum Incendere," he said softly.
"What was that I can't here you?" Nancy mocked.
"Alright enough!" Ms. Dodds said. "Both of you sit down."
A smile spread across his face as he sat down next to Percy. The spell he used would burn whatever a person considered their sanctuary. Whether it be a home or a nice coffee shop, and he had often heard Nancy bragging about her father's beach house in Florida.
"What did you say?" Percy asked.
"Just some Latin." Looking up at Ms. Dodds he felt her gaze on him, it was a predatory gaze that sent shivers down his spine. She isn't normal.
He discreetly took out a few mistform cards just in case. He kept an eye on Ms. Dodds throughout the trip who in turn seemed to be watching Percy. The museum was the usual stuff he had long learned when he was younger.
"Alabaster what image is this?" Mr. Brunner asked snapping him out of his thoughts.
He looked up and frowned. "Jason and Medea." His blood boiled just looking at it, the man who abused and used hi aunt and became a hero while Medea became the villain.
"And what does their story mean to us now?" Mr. Brunner asked his gaze locked on him.
His posture stiffened. "You should never listen to one side of the story. For all we know Jason wasn't the hero we often think him to be." It was true, Jason was a piece of shit who used and abused his aunt. Whenever she spoke of him it was either in anger or tears, it broke his heart hearing how she was manipulated by that bastard.
The man raised an eyebrow. "Interesting prospective."
He nodded and kept to himself for lunch. As he sat by the fountain he noticed a commotion, Percy and Nancy were going at it and suddenly the water grabbed her.
Nancy screamed as she fell into the water. What the hell. He stood up and saw Grover's face turn pale white.
"Percy Jackson come with me!" Ms. Dodds said.
Percy looked to the ground and slowly nodded. "Wait I'll come with him," Grover said.
"He'll come alone," Ms. Dodds said her gaze narrowing on him.
"I'll be alright," Percy muttered as he followed Ms. Dodds into the museum.
That can't be good. That woman was definitely something in disguise.
Grover quickly went up to him and grabbed him. "I don't know what you are or who your parent is but you need to help him."
He was taken aback. "I'm sorry?"
Grover's eyes were almost pleading. "I know you have tricks. Please I beg you."
"Fine just this once," he muttered as he quickly pulled away and ran after Percy.
He quickly ran to a hall when he saw Percy staring up in shock as a fury of all things lunged at him. What the hell are the minions of Hades doing here? "Tardus!" The air around the monster slowed down to a crawl.
Percy Jackson was fumbling with some pen and eventually uncapped it to reveal a celestial bronze sword and stabbed the fury incinerating it.
Percy turned to him just as he quickly ran down the hall. Who exactly is his godly parents? As he arrived outside Mr. Brunner gave him a bored look but for a moment he swore he saw a small smile. He looked back at the water fountain mother just who is this boy?
Deep down he believed he found the person his mother told him about.
AN: This story will be about Alabaster and Hecate, if they took a different path. Let me know what you think, I found the Son of Magic Story interesting even if Alabaster's POV wasn't the majority of it.
This story will focus on the children of the minor gods or mainly Alabaster, Lou, and Ethan if things went differently.
Also I'm using google translate for Alabaster's spells sorry if they aren't correct.
