He stood with his godson while they waited expectantly for his mother. He had imagined this day what seemed like hundreds of times, but it never quite went like this. The times he had imagined himself at J.J.'s wedding, he was standing at the alter waiting for her. The reality was, that he was teaching his Godson a magic trick to do with the wedding rings that J.J. Would soon be exchanging with another man.
Spencer didn't dislike Will. How could he? He made J.J. Happy, he made sure he was safe, and like it or not, he was part of the little man standing in from of Spencer, whom he did not think he could possibly love more. Oddly enough, the trick that he was teaching the young boy, was the same one he had used several years ago, attempting to disarm a paranoid schizophrenic who was holding several passengers, including Elle, hostage. He, personally, thought the ring made a better trick. Henry was a quick study and in a couple of tries had perfected the trick. Teaching Henry magic was something both boys loved. They were high diving and giggling excitedly when it happened.
There she was. Spencer, for the first time in his life, could not form a single thought. He had never understood in the movies, when they tried to make it look as though someone had formed tunnel vision and could only look upon a single thing, but at this moment, the room could have been on fire and he wouldn't have been able to tell the the firemen where it started. He had always found Jennifer to be exceptionally beautiful, but in the moment, it took everything in him not to fall to his knees. All else forgotten, he felt tears well in his eyes as he watched the love of his life come towards him in a white, lacy dress. The small voice yelling "momma!" From in front of him broke him from his trance. He stood from the kneeling position in which he had been in for quite some time with Henry, and allowed himself to be pulled forward by the small hand in his own. Soon they stood face to face, him barely containing the tears in his eyes. She blushed as her gaze met his. They stood in silence for a moment, before she knelt to give her son a hug and kiss, and he was ushered off to stand with his father. She stood again, and Spencer said to her in a voice barely above a whisper "You are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen J.J." Tears filled her own eyes as she reached in front of her to hug her best friend tight. They stood there for what seemed to be several moments in each others embrace. In everyone's hustle to get ready, somehow they had managed this small slice of time alone. For a moment, J.J. Wondered if she was making a mistake. Will was a wonderful man, and father to their son. In all fairness, he was everything she ever could have asked for in a husband. But she inhaled deeply, and took in the sweet, woodsy scent that she always associated with the man in her arms, and nothing else seemed to matter. An image of herself and Spencer running out of the front door, hand in hand, off to elope in his home town, his mom there with them, flashed through her mind. And in an instant it was gone, as her mother called her name. She let go of Spencer, and he gave her an almost imperceptible nod, giving her permission to walk away from him, and into another mans arms.
"They're ready for you Jennifer" her mother said quietly. She hurried towards the door to the outside, barely stopping for her mother to fix the train of her dress on her way by. Mrs. Jareau watched her daughter walking out the door, and begin her walk down the aisle. She then turned towards Spencer, and held out a hand with a knowing smile. "Walk me to my seat Doctor?" She asked. Spencer held his arm at an angle, allowing her to loop hers through his. "I'd be honored, Mrs. Jareau." And out they walked, to watch their girl get married.
Just to see you smile I'd do anything, that you wanted me to And when all is said and done I'll never count the cost, it's worth all that's lost Just to see you smile.
