Chapter 13: RISE - League of Legends
Day 3: 1300
Lin
His head was pounding and the room was spinning. He knew some amount of time passed but was unsure. Sounds began to come in before anything else. Light began to filter into his vision and soon he was opening his eyes.
'Beep! Beep! Beep!' Came the sound of a hospital monitor. Hospital. He was lying down in a hospital. He looked around and saw a TV on the wall across from him currently turned off. A table with various supplies and a cup of ice water on it. The sound of typing nearby caught his attention and he looked over to his left. Yasu was sitting in a chair in the corner with a laptop on a side table in front of him.
"Yasu…" he tried saying. It was rough from disuse and dry mouth.
Yasu looked up and pushed away his table and walked over to him. "Hey! You're awake! That's good. Everyone's been worried," he said.
"What happened?" He asked.
"You were shot. You had a lot of internal bleeding, so they had to really work to get you taken care of. You've been out for a bit," Yasu explained.
Memories came flooding back at the mention of being shot. His charge, Mai, a fight, screaming, then nothing.
"Noll and Mai, are they OK?" He asked.
Yasu said nothing and his face fell. "No. They're not. We have no idea where they are. They've been taken, and no one knows their condition."
Lin leaned back in bed and closed his eyes. He was so mad at himself! Luella and Martin trusted him to keep Noll safe and he failed. Now was not the time though for self-pity and blame; he had to find them.
"You're going to need my access credentials to get into the security cameras for the office." He said stoically. "Once you get in there you can begin to run the identities of the people that took them and-"
"Already ahead of you on that. The police couldn't figure out anything in your setup. I got it in under 20 minutes. The police discounted our observations and abilities, so I back hacked their database and I've been running IDs on them. The team is also coming back from what sounded like a very promising lead already," Yasu explained. He grabbed the laptop and showed him the work he'd been working on already.
Lin isn't usually impressed quickly. But he was quite impressed and proud of his team.
"Do you know when they're coming back?" He asked.
"They had to travel quite a ways, but they should be back in a couple of hours. They stayed back to take pictures and document what they found," Yasu explained.
A knock at the door interrupted their conversation. They both looked up and saw a man in blue scrubs come in.
"Good afternoon! I saw you were awake from your vitals. Can you tell me your name and date of birth?" The man asked.
"Koujo Lin; birthday: 11 January," he replied.
"Excellent! My name is Hiro and I'll be your nurse this evening. Do you know where you are?" The nurse asked.
"In a hospital, I'm not sure which one. I know I was shot," he replied.
"Yes, your doctor will be coming in shortly to talk to you about the surgery and plan of care. In the meantime I'm here to make sure that your surgery incision is taken care of, that we ensure there have been and are no complications after your surgery, and get you on your way to getting out of here," Nurse Hiro explained.
"And how long until I can get out of here?" He asked.
"I don't make those decisions. That's up to your doctor, and physical therapy." Nurse Hiro said, walking over to do some charting on a computer nearby. "I'll remind you though, you were just shot in the abdomen. That will take some time to heal, and some physical therapy to help with any mobility issues. However, if you are determined, and you have good support helping your recovery, I'm sure you'll be out of here in no time."
Lin sighed and held a hand to his face. He needed to go find Noll and Mai! But, if his team was already on the way and already investigating, then he could always just direct them from his room.
"Alright," he said.
"Excellent, I'll page your doctor to come in and talk to you. Speech therapy will also be coming in to determine if you're good to eat and what you can eat. You're in good hands, Mr. Lin,"
"Just Lin, please," he said.
"Got it. Now, please be aware, you're on a lot of pain meds. Patients think that because they can't feel pain they can get out of bed on their own. That is not the case. Please make sure that you utilize your call light and ask for help. Until physical therapy clears you to walk, you are considered a fall risk." The nurse stopped charting and walked over to his side. "Do you have any questions regarding your care?"
"Yes, my team will be coming in to work with me. Will that be a problem?" He asked.
"I wouldn't recommend anything too stressful. Stress can prolong your recovery, so as long as your team knows this, there shouldn't be a problem," Nurse Hiro explained.
"Understood. No stress," he lied. He was already stressed. He wouldn't be not stressed until Noll and Mai were safe.
"Good. Anything else I can help you with?" Nuese Hiro asked.
"No."
"Ok, I wish you a quick and healthy recovery!" He said and left.
"Damn."
Yasu sighed, "Looks like we're going to be held up here for a few days. I hope the wifi isn't too terrible."
