Robert was busy at work with Chase. The two were really trying to bust their humps to clean this town up. They were really making progress, too. Chase had really become one of Robert's favorite detectives.
Their work was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in." Robert shouted as his eyes never left his computer monitor.
Jayne walked in, holding a package. "Hello, Commissioner, Detective Chase."
Had Robert not been distracted by the computer, he might have caught on to the looks Chase and Jayne were giving each other.
"Hi Jayne." Chase flashed her a grin.
"Hello luv, did you need something?" Robert finally tore his eyes away.
"This came for you." Jayne walked over to Robert's desk, sitting the package down.
"Thanks." Robert opened it up, seeing holly in it. He smiled at first until he saw the crumpled up holly and a note. "Watch your step." The color drained from his face.
Chase and Jayne immediately knew something was wrong.
"Commissioner, what is it?" Chase asked, concerned about Robert.
Robert showed it to Chase. "Another message."
Jayne came over to see what was going on. "Do you think it's Diane?" She asked Robert, trying to hide the worry in her voice.
Robert detected it and spoke in a very reassuring tone. "Whoever it is is not going to lay a finger on your mum."
Jayne nodded. She was still worried but had complete faith in Robert. "Do you mind if I go be with her?" She asked.
Robert shook his head. "Not one bit. Detective Chase, would you take her to Holly?"
"No problem." Chase told him as he placed his hand on Jayne's back.
Robert felt reassured that Jayne wasn't going to be alone. "Thank you." He gave Jayne a hug. "I love you."
"I love you too, dad." Jayne squeezed Robert before leaving with Chase.
Robert took put his cell phone and called Holly as soon as they left.
"Darling, aren't you supposed to be working?" Holly grinned into the phone.
"I am. I just needed to hear my favorite voice." Robert felt a wave of relief. She was okay, and he was gonna make sure she stayed that way.
