I meant to put this on the first chapter, but I didn't know how to. Anyways, this is the first fanfiction I wrote and was serious about. I've started others, but I never finished them. I figured since I liked this one so much I would post it to see what would happen. Please tell me if you are confused about anything and I'll try to answer you so you can understand the story. I've had this fanfiction written for a while, but I'm not finished yet. I'll try to post as much as I can. This chapter is a flashback to the night before. If you guys want, I can write more backstory and insert it into chapters. Thank you for reading! P.S. I changed the name of the story because I came up with it after I posted the first chapter. Enjoy! :3
"MAXON! NO!" I scream. I become frantic and I kick the men until they let go of me. I get my hands untied and I fight the men. I'm not that strong, but I'm fast. I get the gun, and I point it at them. I start to tremble because if I shot them, I would be committing murder. I put the safety on the gun, turn the gun around, and hit the men in the head with the butt of the gun. I drop the gun and run over to Maxon, where he is laying on the floor. I check for a pulse, and somehow it is strong. Too strong if he got shot. Tears are streaming down my face.
All of a sudden Maxon's eyes flutter open. I'm astonished. "Maxon?" I ask hesitantly. I look at his chest where the men shot him, but I don't see any blood. Or a gunshot wound. "Wha-?" I ask, very confused. "How are you alive and not bleeding?" I ask Maxon.
"I'm wearing a bulletproof vest," Maxon says. He reaches up with his hand and wipes the tears from my cheeks. I grab his hand, holding his hand against my face. The skin-to-skin contact brings back the memories from last night. I drop his hand, turning away from him. I start to cry again, but silently this time and I think about last night.
I'm walking down the stairs, giddy. I'm going to Maxon's bedroom, I think. I'm going to just talk to him and explain, once again must happen if he wants any chance of marrying me. No kissing, I tell myself. I start running as fast as I can in my heels and ankle-length dress. I turn the corner and see his door. Maxon's bedroom door! I think, excited. I'm looking forward to seeing his room for the first time and how he decorates it. What is he interested in? I wonder since he does not talk about himself. I know he likes photography, but that's about it.
I walk up to his door and I'm about to knock, but I hear a voice inside. No, voices. He said he was going to be alone tonight, I think. I listen closer and I realize that the voice is a woman's voice. What? I think, confused. I go closer to his door and I recognize the voices. Maxon and Kriss. Their voices become softer, quieter. I hear Kriss, and her voice sounds flirty. I listen some more and I hear Maxon say something in a whisper and Kriss giggles at whatever he says. What is going on in there? I think. I hear Kriss giggle again.
By now I'm confused. Why is Kriss here? I ask myself, trying to recall the past day's events. There isn't anything that sticks out to me that would cause this. I hear footsteps getting closer to the door. I hide behind the corner, hoping to find out what Kriss is doing here. Maxon opens his door and he steps out, with Kriss following close behind. She is holding his hand. I suck in my breath. Maxon closes his door once Kriss is out of his room. Kriss looks at Maxon and brushes his face with her hand. Kriss puts her hands on the sides of Maxon's face and brings his face closer to hers. Their foreheads are now touching. Maxon isn't trying to draw back from Kriss's touch at all. Their lips move towards each other and meet in the middle. My hand flies up to my mouth, and I gasp quietly. I turn around, ready to leave, but then I hear Kriss whisper, "I love you, Maxon." Maxon brings his hand down to Kriss's ear and tucks her hair behind her ear.
"Kriss-," Maxon says breathily. Maxon kisses Kriss again, and I whimper. And Maxon hears it. He whips his head up, and he sees me. His eyes meet mine and I must look devastated because he looks horrified. He lets go of Kriss immediately and walks towards me. He reaches his hand out to touch me and I shy away from his touch. I pick up my skirt, turn around, and start running down the hall. I hear Maxon's footsteps behind me, but I don't turn around. I don't know what happened to Kriss, but I don't care. Tears start streaming down my face. "Bella!" I hear Maxon call from behind me. I ignore him and pick up my pace. "Bella! Please stop! I can explain!" Maxon yells.
"You don't need to explain, Maxon. I saw what happened clearly," I say, stopping so I can turn and face him. "Why don't you go check on Kriss?" I point towards the direction I saw Kriss standing last. "She looked pretty heartbroken." Maxon looks behind him and I take the chance to take off running. I run as fast as I can in heels, but I know Maxon will catch up. I stop quickly and take off my heels.
"Bella!" Maxon yells and I hear his footsteps behind me.
I turn around and say, "What do you want?!"
"Just let me explain!" I can hear his temper firing up. He keeps on running towards me, trying to reach me. I start running again, not wanting him to explain. I make it to my room and I shut and lock the door behind me. "Bella! Please!" Maxon says, knocking on my door. I ignore it and throw my heels in the closet. I take off my dress and change into my nightgown. I hear Maxon's footsteps walk away.
Good, I think. I finish my facial routine, almost ready for bed. I'm leaving tomorrow, I decide. I start throwing stuff into the suitcase I brought with me from home. I become exhausted and I fall into my bed. I turn off the light and cry myself to sleep, thinking about everything I lost.
