Hi...I know. It's been forever. But I got reallllly stuck on this part. Luckily, my muses have been working on super hard mode right now. I've been working on a whole bunch of different things...also I lost my outline for this story *sigh* that's another reason I've been having an issue. But I think I've broken it. I am also on vacation this week. Been trying to get as much writing done as I can. So hopefully I can get a lot done before the week is over.
Again I am really sorry for this taking so long!
Kuwabara found himself unable to sleep, again. It was starting to become a ritual. The last time he had this much trouble was right after the Chapter Black case. At least that was more so because of the nightmares. Here, he didn't know why he couldn't fall asleep. Well, he had an idea. It was a mix of things, but mostly his feelings towards Chat Noir and Adrien Agreste. He sighed as he turned towards the clock.
4:08am.
He let out a sigh before looking up at the ceiling. He didn't have to get up for a couple more hours, if he even wanted to. This entire holiday was a bust and it was almost over! Halloween was in two days. He would be back to school in four days from now. He couldn't even get excited over the Halloween party that was being thrown at the school's cafeteria. It was nice of the principle to agree to allow the party, despite the school being closed.
Kuwabara turned towards the couch, hearing a soft snoring from the red head. It seemed like the red head was still sound asleep. Kuwabara let out another sigh before reaching for his mewing kitten, who was asleep atop his chest. He needed to get up. His head was just too restless, which was making his body feel the same. He was able to move his sleeping cat to the side, not waking him up.
Kuwabara carefully got out of the bed and grabbed some jeans and a long sleeved black hoodie. It had the words Megalica in jagged white letters across the hoodie. It was one of his favorite bands. He looked at himself in the bathroom mirror; which is where he had changed. He took a good look at himself. He looked like shit. Then again, it was four in the morning. Not to mention, he really should be asleep. He gave a big yawn and stretched. He was still a bit sleepy but knew he would just go back to tossing back and forth in bed.
He needed fresh air to clear his mind.
Kuwabara carefully snuck out of the apartment. He decided to just head over to the park. It was only across the street and would be mostly empty. Mostly, because there would usually be elderly or early morning joggers at this time. Once he crossed the street, he decided to jog the short path that went around the already small park.
The autumn air was cool but just cool enough that the hoodie the carrot top was wearing was perfect. He jogged slightly, his breath just barely being seen; as it was still a bit chilly. His body began to relax as did his mind.
'This is exactly what I needed.' Kuwabara thought as he continued to jog.
"And I thought you weren't a morning person." came a familiar voice.
Kuwabara, being surprised by the voice, yelped before falling mid jog. He fell on his face, sliding a bit on the ground from the momentum.
"I'm sorry, are you alright?"
Kuwabara groaned before looking at the familiar black boots.
"I'm sick of this position." Kuwabara growled, earning a chuckle from the figure above him.
"Happy to see you're funny bone is still intact." said Chat Noir, who was looking down at the carrot top with a Cheshire smirk while leaning on his staff.
He stood up straight before reaching his hand down to the carrot top. Kuwabara slowly got to his knees before taking the outstretched clawed hand.
"Thanks." he said before brushing himself off once on his feet.
"I thought you'd be home sleeping." Kuwabara asked looking at the cat.
"That should be my line." Chat said with a raised eyebrow.
Kuwabara gave a soft chuckle.
"Touché."
"So..." Chat said, looking at the carrot top with curiosity, "How are you doing? And why for the early morning jog?"
Kuwabara shrugged.
"Just needed some air."
"You always seem to need air at this time in the morning." Chat chuckled.
After the situation at the Effie Tower, Adrien couldn't focus on anything but what happened. He was happy that it was his Lady's turn for patrol since he would have been too distracted to focus on the patrol. Especially, if it was his turn alone. However, it left him time to think over the events that had happened that day. It was too much and even when he tried to go to sleep, that was all he could think about. Finally, he had decided to go out for fresh air. Who knew he would run into the very thing that had been occupying his mind.
"Seems to be the best time to do thinking." Kuwabara said with a shrug.
"How about you? Isn't it too late for you to be out patrolling?" Kuwabara asked as he raised an eyebrow at the cat.
"It was my night off. But I couldn't seem to sleep." Chat said with a cheeky smile.
Kuwabara blinked at the cat.
"Oh? Why not?"
He couldn't think of anything that would cause the feline hero to have trouble sleeping.
"Actually..." Chat began before pursing his lips.
Should he ask the questions that had been swirling around in his head?
"I was wondering about what happened at the Effie Tower yesterday" Chat started keeping a close eye on Kuwabara's face.
The carrot top's face slowly began to pale just a bit.
"What about it?" Kuwabara asked, a bit shaky.
He still had nightmares about having his bones broken piece by piece. He could still feel the breaks sometimes. The doctor's said it was a miracle he could use his arms, let alone his hands. With how badly injured he had been, he should have died that day. But thanks to his reiki and Genkai's healing, he was able to heal up with in two weeks.
"Well, that guy. He knew you and you obviously know him some how. I just..." he said before pausing.
The cat could see how uncomfortable the carrot top was talking about the incident. However, Chat felt that he couldn't protect Kuwabara from being attacked if that guy came after the carrot top again. Not if he didn't know what to expect with the guy.
Kuwabara didn't know what to tell the cat hero. He didn't want to think about it, let alone talk about what happened. Sure, it wasn't as horrible as the Chapter Black case, but just as traumatic. Besides, he didn't think Chat could do anything to help. The guy was a demon for Koenma's sake! Sure, the cat fought evil things called akumas but those were just humans being controlled. What Kuwabara had was an actual demon! Not to mention a demon who had successfully defeated and stole 99 top human psychics powers.
That's what worried the carrot top the most. He was unable to get his 100th victim thanks to Yusuke. But if this demon knew about Kuwabara's Jigen Tou; aka Dimensional Blade. There was no way the guy was going to throw in the towel and sit on the bench to drink Gatorade! No. This guy was gonna keep after him until he was defeated or got Kuwabara's power.
"Well, I just think that my Lady and I can help you if the guy comes after you again. I mean, with how much you've done, it would be the least we could do. But we can't help if we don't know anything about him. You know, know your enemy." Chat said, giving the carrot top a warm smile.
Kuwabara blinked at the cat. He had a point. It would be better to have more people in the know. Especially if the guy decides to go after his friends. He knew Rando was more interested in himself, but that didn't mean the guy would try to use one of his friends to get to him. He let out a sigh.
"It's kinda hard to explain..." Kuwabara said, realizing how hard it would to explain about demons and the underworld.
He wished Botan was there. She was so much better at giving fake stories which, for some reason, would be easily believed despite how ridiculous the excuse seemed.
"I deal with the hard to explain. I mean, I fight people who are turned into super villain's with purple butterflies." Chat said with a Cheshire smirk.
There didn't seem to be anything that could faze or surprise him at this point. Chat had a point there. Kuwabara couldn't argue against that logic.
"Let's find some place private then..." Kuwabara said, noticing more people coming out.
Chat nodded before offering his hand to Kuwabara. Kuwabara blinked at the hand.
"Going up." he said, moving his staff into position to extend.
"Ah I..." Kuwabara started before yelping as Chat pulled the taller teen towards him.
"Don't worry, I've done this before." he said with a wink before extending his staff.
Kuwabara couldn't help but scream as he and the feline hero were sent flying towards a very high building. Chat couldn't help but chuckle. He found it cute that after all the dangerous things the carrot top had done, heights were what he was most afraid of.
They had safely landed on top of the building. Once Chat let the carrot top go, he fell to the ground, gasping for air.
"Are you ok?" Chat asked, a little concern in his voice.
"Don't do that again! At least warn a guy before pole vaulting!" Kuwabara growled before slowly calming himself down.
Chat couldn't help but laugh, earning a glare from the carrot top. He put his hands up.
"Sorry, sorry. I'll warn you next time. Cross my heart." Chat said, making an X over his heart.
Kuwabara continued to glare for a moment before huffing and looking for a place to sit down. It looked like it was a balcony that had some chairs and benches. There were glass doors leading out to the balcony, which were closed.
"Don't worry. It's too early for anyone to come out here. It's not open yet." Chat said before heading over to one of benches and patting the spot next to him.
Kuwabara nodded before walking over to the bench and sat down next to the cat. The two sat in silence for what felt like hours.
"So..." Chat said, making Kuwabara look at him. "Explain what all that was about yesterday."
Kuwabara looked into those green eyes before letting out a sigh. He looked down into his lap, folding his hands in his lap.
"Ok, so...uh..." Kuwabara started but didn't know how to start this explanation.
"I really wish Botan was here..." the carrot top mumbled to himself.
Chat raised an eyebrow at the mumble. Kuwabara took in a deep breath before turning to look at Chat with a determined face. Chat sat up, alert.
"That guy was a demon that Urameshi and I fought back in middle school. He would go after great reiki masters and steal their techniques and kill them. I wasn't who he was after at the time, but I ended up fighting the guy, but he didn't look like that. He looked kinda like a crappy looking Krilin cosplayer or some shit. And I was so cocky as a kid that I let my guard down and we fought. He tore me apart, limb by limb. I ended up passing out but Urameshi was able to defeat the little bastard." Kuwabara said talking a bit faster then normal.
Chat sat there just blinking at the carrot top, who was a bit out of breath at how quickly he had talked. His face was also a little red, although the cat didn't understand why. He let the words slowly process in his mind.
"Could you repeat that?" Chat asked, not sure what he heard.
He heard pieces from the rambling but only caught shitty Krillin cosplayer and reiki master and killing.
"Uh yeah. Ummm, maybe that was too much. Let's see. Maybe I should start from the beginning." Kuwabara said, letting out a sigh.
"Ya see, Urameshi, Kur- ah Shuichi, a shrimp called Hiei and me, well we all fight demons. Or well, we did until they turned out to not all be evil dicks. I mean, I should have known from working with Hiei..." Kuwabara started to ramble.
Kuwabara scratched the back of his head as he gave a nervous grin.
"But I guess there are evil humans so it makes sense there would be good demons."
"Wait, wait, wait!" Chat said, waving his hands to slow down the big guy.
"You fight demons? Like scary creatures with big teeth and red eyes?" Chat said, making his fingers look like fangs coming from his mouth.
"Not all look like that. Some look more like humans." Kuwabara said with a thoughtful look.
Chat looked at the carrot top. He could tell Kuwabara was being serious. He didn't doubt the words were nothing but the truth. It was still a bit out of left field and weird. Like seriously demons?! But then again, he and his lady were fighting things called akumas at least once a week.
"So that guy was a demon?" Chat asked.
"Ah yeah. It was back in middle school. At the time, Urameshi and me were just rivals. Just startin' out to become friends. But we wouldn't admit it." Kuwabara said before chuckling to himself.
He was such a stupid kid. He was emotionally stunted. It wasn't until the Chapter Black case where he was able to be open with any of his emotions. Some people would have called him a crybaby, but he would call it just being open to his sensitive side. But who wouldn't cry over their best friend being killed in front of them? Yusuke had did the same, when Kuwabara was 'killed'. Guys could cry and it be perfectly fine!
Chat nodded, not really understanding. He only started to have more friends a couple of years ago. Nino was his first guy friend. Really, he was still his only guy friend. He was cool with the rest of the guys in his class. But Nino was his best friend. They easily shared their care for each other, with no embarrassment.
"So is that how you met Shuichi?" Chat asked, a bit interested in learning more.
Kuwabara nodded.
"Yeah, but that was after fighting that guy, who is name Rando by the way. But anyway, Urameshi and me went to fight these four demons who were trying to force Underworld to let them into pur world. Which would have been bad cause they liked to eat humans and shit." Kuwabara said, earning a couple of confused looks from the cat.
"Underworld would probably be close to something like a Spirit world I think." Kuwabara said, having realized he threw in some Japanese words.
Chat nodded.
He understood Japanese. Obviously since he could understand the conversation Shuichi had with that Yusuke guy not too long ago. Japan was pretty big with fashion. Not as big as the main four, but was getting there. It was also where his father launched a new line of clothing. He had learned Japanese first before learning Chinese. What confused him was what a Spirit or rather Underworld was.
"Hmm..." Chat hummed with a nod.
"So..." Kuwabara said with a worried look, "you can't tell Shuichi that I said anything to you."
Chat blinked.
"Why not?"
"Cause he told me not to say anything. But I think we can trust you. No, I know I can trust you..." Kuwabara said before looking away with a faint blush on his cheeks.
Chat blinked at the carrot top for a moment before feeling his own cheeks flush.
"Oh, really? Why's that?" Chat asked, very interested in the answer.
He could feel his tail swish in delight at the thought of the carrot top trusting him with such important information.
"Well...I can't really explain it..." Kuwabara started as he began to fidget a bit.
He glanced back at the cat, whose eyes were extra green it felt. Kuwabara looked away, his blush growing a bit deeper.
"I just know, ok." he mumbled out.
Chat couldn't help the grin that crossed his face. He stood up, causing Kuwabara to look over at Chat. Chat stood in front of the carrot top, who was know at eye level in his sitting position.
"I purromise to not tell a soul." Chat said with a bow and a Cheshire cat grin.
Kuwabara looked at the cat before a wide grin crossed his face.
"Thanks."
The two stayed like that for a moment before Chat straighten.
"I have a question." Chat said.
Kuwabara tilted his head to the side.
"Yeah? What's that?" he was wondering what the cat would ask.
"What is your energy sword?" Chat asked.
Kuwabara blinked.
"Whadya mean?"
"Like, how can you make it?" Chat asked.
Kuwabara pursed his lips in thought.
"Well it's me using my reiki or spirit energy." Kuwabara said, bringing his hands together.
A soft glow began to form in his hands.
"I just focus my Spirit Energy into my hands and I can create a sword." Kuwabara said, forming a smaller version of his Reiki sword, "I can actually make some other stuff but it takes a bit more effort. It's easier to make my sword, since it was the first thing I was able to make using my energy. "
Kuwabara focused a bit harder and was able to make tennis racket.
Chat's eyes widened. He looked at the glowing orange racket in awe.
"That's amazing!" he said.
Kuwabara dispelled it and laughed softly, scratching the back of his head.
" Just simple reiki is all, nothing too crazy."
"No. I've never seen it before and I'm sure not too many people can make stuff out of their own imaginations! I've only seen that with Hawk Moth's akumas! So it's truly amazing!" Chat said, giving Kuwabara a warm smile.
Kuwabara couldn't help the small blush that crossed his cheeks. He looked away, still scratching the back of his head.
Chat couldn't help but think Kuwabara looked so cute. He wanted to make the carrot top blush more. A small blush crossed his own cheeks at the thought of making Kuwabara blush in other ways. He shook his head to clear it
"So..." Chat said, bringing Kuwabara's attention back, "Anything else I need to know?"
Kuwabara thought a bit more.
"Not really, but if you have any more questions just ask. I'll try to tell you as much as I can. Oh! Also, could you keep this a secret from Ladybug too? Just for now anyway."
Chat frowned. He didn't like lying or hiding anything from his Lady.
"I want to tell her myself." Kuwabara said.
Chat nodded.
"Ok."
All of a sudden, Kuwabara's pocket began to ring. The two jumped, Kuwabara jumped off the bench. He reached into his pocket and looked at his phone. He had made sure to grab it before leaving. He paled abit at seeing a picture of a certain redheaded fox.
"It's Shuichi." Kuwabara gulped before answering it.
Before the carrot top could get a single word out, he was stopped by a very anger sounding Kurama.
"Where are you."
It wasn't a question. It was a statement.
Kuwabara flinched at the tone.
"I-I'm sorry. I couldn't sleep so I'm out taking a walk."
"Alone. You know Rando is after you right now. And you go off by yourself for a walk?" Kurama asked, his voice sounding very dangerous.
Kuwabara gulped, glancing over at Chat. It seemed the feline could hear how pissed off the redhead was. He had wide eyes and looked a bit scared at the tone.
"Well, I'm not really alone...I ran into Chat, so he's keeping me company." Kuwabara said.
He hoped that would calm down most of the redhead's wrath.
"Chat Noir? But why would he be out at 5 in the morning?" Kurama asked, not really to Kuwabara but aloud to himself.
"He was just doing last minute patrol and saw me. I'm sorry to worry you. I seriously thought I'd be back before anyone woke up. I'll head back now. I'm not too far." Kuwabara said.
There was a pause on the other end of the call, before the carrot top heard a sigh.
"No detours."
"Promise."
Kuwabara let out a sigh of relief after hanging up with the angry redhead. He looked over at Chat with a side ways grin.
"Sorry about him. He kinda gets a bit over protective."
"I can see." Chat said with a chuckle.
He then turned a bit serious.
"He's not wrong though. You are in danger. So it probably wasn't a good idea to come out by yourself." Chat said before digging into a pocket.
Kuwabara blinked as Chat took out a small device. He looked at it before looking back at Chat.
"It's a communicator. Both myself and Ladybug have one that we use if we aren't in our superhero forms. It so we can still communticate if one of us in in danger or notice something. It's only voice, no video. That way, our secret identies are safe. I want you to have this. You use it whenever you want to go out walking again. I'll do my best to answer." Chat said with a smile.
Kuwabara's eyes widened. A flutter appeared in his chest at the small gift.
"Wow, thanks." he said before putting it in his pocket.
He would have to figure out a way to keep it on him at all times. It would be very usefull if there are any akuma attacks.
"Of course. Now, let's get you back home before Shuichi gets even madder." Chat said, outstreching his hand.
Kuwabara couldn't help but chuckle before taking it.
Chat pulled the taller man close to him. Kuwabara couldnt' help the blush as he felt an arm wrap around his waist. It felt secure. He felt safe as if he wouldn't be hurt. It was a nice feeling.
"I'm going to get us down now, ok?" Chat said, remembering how Kuwabara wanted a 'warning' next time they did this.
Kuwabara grinned down at him and wrapped his arms around Chat's shoulders.
"I'm ready." Kuwabara said with a nod, pulling himself closer.
Chat couldn't help the wide grin as he extended his pole and sent the two of them flying through the air.
Kuwabara closed his eyes and tightened his hold on the cat. He could feel the arm wrap even tighter around his waist. It calmed the carrot top's nerves just a bit.
Chat began to chuckle after they landed, right in front of the backway to get into Marinette's house. Kuwabara peeked open his eyes and let out a sigh of relief.
"Was that better?" the cat asked, letting go of the carrot top.
He felt a bit sad having to let go, but found he could still feel the warmth from Kuwabara against the parts their bodies touched.
Kuwabara nodded, giving the cat a warm smile.
"Yeah, much better. Well, I guess I better go in. Thanks again." Kuwabara said with a small wave.
"Of course, anything for you." Chat said with a bow.
He froze, his eyes wide.
If Kuwabara heard the cat, he didn't show it.
"See you later." Kuwabara said before going into the building.
Chat let out a sigh of relief before yawning. He needed to be up in three hours. Just enough time for a cat nap. He extended his baton one last time before heading off to his house.
Sorry it was short, but I felt it was a good spot to end it. I will be working on the next chapter soon. Once I get a bit done, I will come back here and post what the preview for it will be. Until then, I hope yall enjoyed this!
