ASC: Chapter 13

"Hey, Eddy! Hey Jade!"

Double D perked his head up when he heard Ed's voice, looking to see that Eddy and Jade had finally come back after he had dashed away from what he saw on the news, "A-Are you, umm… Feeling any better?" Double D asked.

"Yeah," Eddy replied with a nod, "Feeling like a million bucks."

Double D smiled to his friend, "That's very good to hear…" he then noticed that Evan and Rebecca began to walk over to them; they had followed Eddy and Jade here after having their conversation earlier, "I-I assume you told Eddy the truth?" he asked Evan.

"Sure did," Evan stated, "I even told Pipsqueak that you knew about my real job for a while. Wanted to thank you for keeping it a secret 'til now."

"Have there been any updates on Alice's condition?" Rebecca asked.

"No, not yet…" Reese replied with a sigh, "I'm getting really worried for her…"

"It'll be okay, Reese," Jade said to her friend as she sat down next to them, "Alice is very strong. We just need to keep waiting for now."

Double D glanced over to Eddy, who was about to sit down next to Jade. He swallowed his nerves before asking, "… Eddy, do you mind if I talk to you? I need to tell you something."

Eddy arched an eyebrow at his friend, "Uh, sure."

Double D got up from where he sat as he and Eddy left the waiting room, walking off back to the entrance to talk outside, "What did you wanna talk about, Sockhead?" Eddy asked, noticing that Double D was acting weird but could not figure out why.

"I-I… I wanted to talk to you about Alice," Double D began to say to his friend, lowering his head as he twiddled with his thumbs in a nervous manner, "I've s-sort of been feeling this way for a while, b-but…" he paused for a second to collect his thought before continuing, "A few nights ago, I had a very vivid dream involving Alice – a-and myself… T-The two of us were in my bed, a-and we… w-we both—"

Double D stopped himself from what he was going to say next, covering his face to hide how embarrassed he was of his friend, "Oh dear, w-who am I kidding?! Why did I even THINK it was a good idea to try and tell you this?! You're her BROTHER! I-I feel awful that this dream even happened!"

Eddy stared at Double D before it clicked to him what he was trying to say, "… Whoa, wait a minute! Don't tell me you dreamed that you both—"

"P-PLEASE CEASE YOURSELF FROM EVEN SAYING THE ACT!" Double D shouted to him, his face becoming redder and redder by the second, "I do realize we are all teenagers, s-so it's only natural to have these… t-these very strong f-feelings of affection toward others, but…" he bent down to the ground in a crouching position, trying to hide in shame, "But THIS is just… THIS IS TOO MUCH!"

Eddy could only stand there as Double D began to confess the vivid dream he had with Alice. He already had a feeling Double D liked his sister; he even knew Alice felt the same way about his friend, as she finally told him yesterday when they decided to plan out the double date they wanted to do that day. But to have Double D freak out over a sexual dream he had with Alice was NOT something he expected to happen. Double D was always a pretty emotional guy expressing how he felt about many things, but even he was never that vocal or forward about confessions like this. It took Eddy by complete surprise to hear this from Double D, who was feeling ashamed of himself.

"H-Hey… Listen to me for a sec," Eddy began to say to Double D as he bent down to Double D, who was still trying to hide his face from the shame he was feeling, "I don't know if you'd noticed it or not, but Alice pretty much feels the same way to you."

"… S-She does…?"

"Yeah, she told me last night after I teased her about it. I could tell she's felt like this to you for a while," Eddy continued to say, "Both of us thought you were clueless about her feelings for you, but it looks like you were both clueless to each other."

Double D was silent as he glanced up to look at Eddy, peeking at him through his fingers up against his face.

"I can't give you any real advice about this, Sockhead. I feel like my bro Evan would be better at talking about this kind of stuff because he's a lot older," Eddy stated, "But I just wanna let you know I'm not angry."

Double D gasped at Eddy, "Y-You're not?" he meekly asked as he put his hands down from his face to look at his friend.

"Nope," Eddy replied before making a smirk at him, "If anything, I'm kinda glad she fell in love with someone I know who cares about her instead of some random himbo. I trust you, Sockhead, and I wouldn't have it any other way, honestly."

Double D began to blush again at Eddy's statement. It was relieving to hear Eddy give his blessings to both him and Alice. He was very worried that he would lose Eddy and Alice as friends if he explained the dream he had, even knowing it happened due to the hormones he was experiencing for his age.

"Come on, let's get back to the waiting room, Double D," Eddy began to say, helping his friend stand back up, "We need to be there when Alice wakes up, you know."

"… Y-You're right." Double D replied with a smile.

The two teens walked back to the waiting room, sitting back down with their group of friends to continue waiting for the news about Alice's condition.

While they were sitting in the waiting room, everyone began to have various conversations, introducing themselves so everyone would know each other. Rebecca told the teens there she had been Evan's girlfriend for about two and a half years but had to separate from him a year ago because of his job of going undercover.

"But now that the case is over, I've decided to ask my boss for a demotion," Evan said to the teens, "I wanna go back to being a normal police officer; no more undercover business for me."

"I don't really blame you for that," Reese stated, "Seems like this job took a toll on you."

"… Yeah. It was rough," Evan replied before making a sigh, "Not being able to talk to the people you care about was the worst part about it; not even the job itself was as bad as that."

Evan could feel Rebecca latch onto his arm once more with a loving smile.

Suddenly, the double doors beside everyone opened wide as a nurse came rushing out of it, "I-Is the siblings of Alice Anderson currently here?"

Both Eddy and Evan hopped up from their chairs when they heard that, "Yes, we're both here," Evan stated.

"Good, we need you two to come see Alice! Immediately!"

Everyone widened their eyes at the nurse as they were all about to follow her, only for the nurse to stop the others before they could go any further, "I'm sorry, only family members can enter right now."

Double D began to panic when he heard that, "But… B-But I—"

"It's alright, he can come with us!" Eddy interjected to the nurse with a glare, "You gotta let him go!"

The nurse paused for a moment before making a sigh, "Okay, but you need to hurry! Please!"

The group rushed to Alice's room, going inside to see Eddy's parents and two other doctors at her side, preparing to use a defibrillator to keep her alive. The sound of the heart rate monitor could be heard, it was beeping at a fast pace, indicating something was wrong; she could potentially flatline at any moment.

"The doctors are preparing to help her, but they're not ready yet! P-Please come talk to Alice to buy them some time!" Daisy told them as they rushed to their side, "Maybe one of your voices can help reach her!"

Double D began to panic internally at what she said but quickly nodded his head before turning his attention to Alice. He could see how pale she was.

"A-Alice? Can you hear me? I-It's Double D!" he started to say to her, walking forward slightly to hold onto her right hand, "I wanted to thank you for saving me from the fire earlier…" he could feel himself trembling, "Y-You saved my life! And yet there isn't anything I can do to help you! So, I… I-I wanted you know how much I care about you!" tears started to fall from his eyes, "I LOVE YOU, ALICE!" he closed his eyes, looking away from her in pain, "PLEASE, DON'T LEAVE US BEHIND!" he fell to his knees after yelling that to her, "I don't want to lose you…"

Everyone in the room could only look on with sadness at his confession, having no words to say.

"Finally, we got the defibrillator ready!" one of the doctors said as they took it out to use, "Thank you for helping us, son. Please step back!" stated the other doctor to Double D.

Double D did as he was told, getting up from where he fell with the help of Eddy and Evan, letting go of Alice's hand as he did. The doctors began to charge up the defibrillator for one big shock, "CLEAR!"

They pressed the shock pads up against Alice's chest; everyone could see her body jolt up from the electric shock, hoping that this could help kickstart her heart. Everyone in the room waited for only a second before the beeping of the heart rate monitor nearby began to drastically slow down to a normal heartbeat. Thanks to the shock, Alice's heart was beating properly again. She had pulled through.

"O-Oh, thank the heavens…" Luis sighed in relief.

Eddy and Evan looked back to Double D only to see his face was an absolute mess, "I-I… My apologies for yelling like that, I…" Double D stated, trying to wipe the tears away from his eyes, "I didn't mean to be s-so loud."

He felt a hand being placed on his shoulder, "You did what you could," Evan said before looking back at Alice, "And I think it worked; she probably heard you talking to her."

He felt another hand on his other shoulder, "Yeah, looks like Alice isn't going anywhere, Sockhead," Eddy stated with a smile.

Double D looked at the two brothers before breaking down into tears once more, "I-I'm so relieved…" he stuttered.

Double D looked back to Eddy's parents with a blush across his face, realizing he said all of that to Alice in front of them, "U-U-Umm…"

"Eddward, sweetie. You don't need to apologize for falling in love with Alice," Daisy stated to him, trying to comfort him, "Once she wakes back up, all of us can talk with you about it with her, okay?"

Double D was silent before nodding his head with a smile, "Is it possible for me to stay in here with her?"

"Of course you can," Luis replied, "We'll tell the nurses that we give you permission to stay."

"T-Thank you, sir…" Double D stated before making a big sigh of relief to himself, looking back to Alice as he did, 'You will pull through this, Alice! I believe in you!'

Authour's Note (April 3rd, 2024): This chapter was very heavy. Apologies for that. The story might be coming to an end soon, but I'm unsure how many chapters are left.
