The day of the premiere of the new opera has arrived. Firmin and André were very nervous, as if they were going to perform, but they were worried about the Phantom of the Opera.
They were afraid of him and didn't want to for him to ruin this evening but they couldn't even imagine how the evening would end. Christine, on the other hand, was more worried than anyone because she knew Erik's plan, knew what was going to happen tonight, and even though she didn't like it very much, because she didn't want to leave Paris and where else, to be destroy the place that was like home to her, she still agreed to take part and play along with this plan, because she wanted so much to be with Erik that she had to take advantage of the opportunity - so now or never.
Raoul had already thought of his own plan to "destroy" his rival and get Christine - he had arranged with the head of the gendarmes, as well as with Firmin and André, that the gendarmes would be at the opera on opening night, guarding all the guests, and would capture the Ghost at the right moment. Only they had no idea that they would not succeed. In one moment, while taking a break from rehearsals, Christine happened to see and hear Raoul talking to Firmin and André and what she heard she did not like very much and immediately rushed to her room, locked
the door, went through the mirror and ran downstairs to Erik to warn him about Raoul's plan.
After listening to everything, Erik just laughed and told Christine not to worry too much about it, because no matter what Raoul was planning, nothing would work out anyway, not with the plan Erik had. Christine was happy, but still worried and afraid that their plan would work. The evening came, the guests arrived and took their seats, also Raoul, Firmin and André, as well as all the invited gendarmes who were at the ready. The performance could begin, both on stage and in the opera house. All at went well so far, Christine portrayed her part very convincingly and brilliantly, and however unpleasantly it was, everything with Piandji was as good as it could be. When Piandji went
backstage to change into his black mask and cape, he was surprised by Erik, who did nothing to him, only threatened to let Erik continue to play his part. Piandji said nothing in return, because he was afraid of him and did not want trouble. Meanwhile, Christine had no idea who would be her partner, with whom she would not find it so difficult to continue acting. Finally the moment came and Erik came on stage, dressed in all black, with a black cape and a black mask. He started to sing and Christine felt surprised but happy and took her time before to turn around to see him, because they were on stage - everyone could see them, including Raoul. She continued to sit on the floor and listen him singing and slowly coming closer to her. Then Christine started to get up slowly herself, singing too, and slowly turned around to see Erik, who was already quite close to her and took her outstretched hand in his and caressed it. It seemed like it would never end, would go on forever and Christine thought she was hypnotised and enchanted by Erik. Erik approached Christine from behind and put his arms around her waist, forcing her closer to him and the next moment both their faces and gazes met. It looked like the kiss was not far away, but they both restrained themselves as they couldn't let anything like that happen. Then Erik slowly and rather passionately caressed with his hands all Christine's body, from her neck to her hips, and Christine liked it, so much that she closed her eyes and gave in to all the sensations that were overwhelming her at that moment. Watching all this, Raoul was burning with insane and crazy jealousy because he understood and saw very well what was happening on stage. He saw with what passion Christine gave herself to Erik and with what love and lust Erik took his pleasure caressing Christine. On the one hand, he realised that he could never give something like that to Christine, but on the other hand he still wanted Christine for himself, so when he saw all this, he was overwhelmed with a rage and an overwhelming desire to break them up. At the moment, Raoul couldn't do anything, he could just continue to watch everything. Next, Christine and Erik were going up the stairs singing when they came on a sort of bridge and they both repeated again what they had just done downstairs. The next moment, when Christine and Erik stood close together facing each other, Erik tore off his mask, thus showing everyone his disfigured face side. Everyone froze in horror, gasped and were frightened by the sight. Then Erik pulled the rope behind which the chain of the big, beautiful chandelier was attached, and it began to move, Erik pulled it again and it finally moved out of the way and started to fall on top of the people who was in the hall. As the chandelier began to fall, Erik grabbed Christine and pulled her close to him and both fell into the opera house, close to Erik's headquarters. Nobody really even managed to see it, because everybody was running
out of the opera house, and all they could think of was how to escape. Only Madame Giry and Raoul saw it and Raoul ordered the gendarmes to start looking for Christine and Erik, and even asked Madame Giry for help, but this time she refused. As much as she loved Christine, she did not want to ruin her happiness and life. Raoul decided to search for Erik's secret headquarters himself, even though it was quite unsuccessful, but he remembered hearing Ghost's voice coming from Christine's room and went into it, for he knew that there must be a secret passage, and began to look for it, and when at last found it, he went downstairs, but when he reached the bottom he was disappointed to see that there was no more of the two lovers, because Christine and Erik, having taken their things (Christine had already took hers the day before and brought them down to Erik, so that there would be no snags) and with the money they had been given by Madame Giry, left the opera and Paris for good, at least for the time while would calm down and quiet...
