Chapter 2

Their hunt had been unsuccessful, but luckily they still had enough food to eat back at the territory. Luffy and Zoro walked side-by-side, just having changed out of their wolf forms. Zoro noticed that Luffy has been uncharacteristically quiet for most of their hunt. He wanted to ask Luffy if something was on his mind. But if Luffy wanted to tell him, he would. Zoro didn't mind Luffy's silence, it was peaceful sometimes. However, his curiosity got the better of him.

"What are you thinking about?" Zoro asked.

"Hmm…just thinking about that Traffy guy," Luffy said, folding his hands behind his head. "He got beat up pretty bad. I could sense he's really strong, so the other guy who took over his pack must be even stronger!"

"You say that like it's a good thing," Zoro said. "I still think we should send him on his way when he's better."

Luffy grinned. "Nah! I said I would help him! If I'm going to be the Supreme, then I need to fight the competition."

"But that also means you'll eventually have to fight him, too. Law, I mean."

Luffy shrugged his shoulders and smiled. "I'm not worried! I'll think about that when the time comes." His stomach rumbled. "Oh boy, am I hungry! Hunting always makes me hungry!"

"We're almost home," Zoro said. "That Shitty Cook should have a meal ready."

"Maybe Traffy is well enough to join us for dinner!"

Zoro frowned at the mention of Law. Luffy was being too overly friendly with the stranger. "He should remain with Chopper for now," Zoro said. "He can eat there,"

"I'll ask him anyway," Luffy said. "Just in case,"

Zoro didn't say any more as they entered the grounds of their territory. Luffy could smell the delicious aroma of meat coming from the main meeting hut. He had forgotten all about Law for a moment when he smelled the food and his stomach rumbled. He rushed away from Zoro's side to the hut where Sanji was just finishing up cooking. Sanji had a rule that Luffy never followed, and that was not to bother or pester him while he's cooking. Luffy tried to sneak into the kitchen, tip-toeing and crouching low. Sanji had his back to him while cooking over the hearth. Luffy saw the small loaves of bread and his mouth watered. Silently, he made his way to the counter and reached a hand up to grab a roll. A wooden spoon suddenly tapped his hand and he pulled it back with an 'ow.'

"Luffy! What did I say about bothering me in the kitchen?" Sanji scolded him. "And you need to stop stealing food!"

"But I'm hungry!" Luffy was holding his throbbing hand. "I just wanted to bring some bread to Traffy!"

Sanji narrowed his eye. "I don't believe you," he said. "I'm finishing up dinner, so just go and wait with everyone else,"

Luffy pouted and fixed his straw hat. "I still want to bring something to Traffy,"

Sanji sighed and motioned to the rolls. "Go ahead and take one for him. I said one!" Sanji smacked Luffy's hand again when the omega tried to take two.

Luffy ignored the spoon smack and took two rolls, then dashed out of the kitchen, laughing. He could hear Sanji shouting at him but he didn't turn back. He ran to the medical hut while munching down on one of the rolls. When he got there, he didn't bother knocking. He opened the door and peeked inside, a roll still in his mouth. Luffy noticed that Chopper was gone, but Law was still in the bed.

Luffy went over to the bed, still munching on bread, and looked down at Law's face. He was a good looking alpha with black hair and a small beard. His strong cheeks were flushed slightly from fever. Luffy moved in closer, sniffing at Law's neck. The alpha smelled like wet grass after a heavy rain. It was an earthy scent that Luffy liked, and his heart rate suddenly started to increase. He had never smelled an alpha like Law before, and he wondered why. There were more alphas in his pack, but none of their scents were like this. Luffy became curious and, drawn in by the scent, nuzzled Law's neck, right behind the ear. Law gave a slight moan and rolled over, giving Luffy his bandaged back.

Luffy wondered if he should just let Traffy sleep and leave the roll for him to eat later. He realized that he didn't want to leave just yet, dinner or not. Instead, he reached out a hand and gently shook the alpha's shoulder. He was met with a slight moan again, and Law lifted his head to look over his shoulder. Luffy grinned at him and said,

"I brought you some bread!"

Law had been sound asleep when Luffy woke him up, and he was a little cranky. He still didn't feel good, and his fever had come back. He wasn't very hungry, either, but he knew he had to eat. He sat up and looked at Luffy's grinning face. Blinking the sleep from his foggy eyes, he took the bread offered to him.

"Thanks,"

"No problem. I guess you're still pretty sick, huh? I thought if you felt better, you could come eat dinner with us,"

Law wasn't feeling up to getting out of bed and he told Luffy so, which had the omega pouting. Law explained to him that he should remain in bed until his fever was completely gone, and Luffy seemed to accept that explanation.

Law took a bite of the bread, chewing slowly. He was wondering why Luffy was still here, and why the omega was staring at him.

"Do you…need something?" Law asked.

Luffy shook his head. "No. Just smelling you,"

Law almost choked on a piece of bread. "Sm-smelling me?" It wasn't strange for wolf shifters to sniff each other, but for some reason, the thought of Luffy doing it had him feeling…odd. He could smell Luffy's scent easily, sweet and strong. He wanted to get closer to smell him more, but he stopped himself, reminded of Zoro's words to him.

"You smell good!" Luffy said. "I like how you smell!"

"Uh…thanks? You smell good too, I guess?" This was awkward.

"You smell so good I want to just nuzzle you. Is that weird?"

Law blushed a little but it was hidden beneath his fever flush. Having an omega interested in his smell was the last thing he needed. There was such a thing as fated mates among wolves, but he didn't think that had anything to do with Luffy right now. He swore off finding an omega mate anyway.

"The bread is good." Law said. "Thanks."

"Food will help you to get better faster," Luffy said.

"That's true. But I need to rest more," Law told him. "If you don't mind, I would like to get back to sleep."

"Oh, yeah, sure," Luffy said, finishing the last of his roll. "When you get better, I want to see your wolf form,"

"Yeah…that's fine." Law said, laying back down. "Thanks for the food."

"You're welcome! Rest up good, okay?"

Law closed his eyes and nodded. He turned over onto his side and waited until he heard the door close. He wanted to see Luffy's wolf form, too. Law was finding it hard to go back to sleep because he kept thinking about Luffy, with kind brown eyes and a cheerful smile. He had never met someone like Luffy, and he felt oddly drawn to the omega. That bothered him. He had never felt this way about an omega before. Law wanted to see more of Luffy, and he couldn't understand why. He can only blame it on his alpha instincts giving him a hard time. It was natural for alphas primes to have more than one pack omega, but he had never been that way. Besides, if he wanted to make an alpha move on Luffy, that Zoro guy would have his head. He needed allies right now, not enemies.

Eventually, he fell asleep and had another fever dream. It was the same as before with one difference, there was more than just him. Other wolves attacked Doflamingo's giant wolf form. There was one shadow wolf in particular that was fighting more than the others. Law wondered who it could be. When he woke up again, he noticed it was night, and Chopper was back in the room with him. He sat up and cracked his back. He wasn't used to sleeping or laying down so much.

"How are you feeling?" Asked Chopper.

"A bit better," Law replied. "I need some more medicine, though."

Chopper smiled and nodded "No problem. Let me get it for you."

Law was getting used to the taste of the tea-flavored medicine. Chopper was a skilled doctor. With this medicine and more rest, his fever should break by tomorrow. Chopper mentioned that he wanted to change the bandages. There were spots of dark brown blood leaking through some of the bandages. Law said it was okay to change them, and Chopper set to do so. But while he was getting his bandages off, the door opened and Luffy came in.

"Hey, Traffy! I brought you some more food!" Luffy said, holding up a plate.

"I'm changing his bandages right now," Chopper said.

"Oh, can I watch?" Luffy asked.

"Uh…sure?" Law said, a little confused.

Chopper pointed out some of the cuts that he had to stitch up to Law who just nodded. There were a lot of stitches, and they would take a while to heal. Most of his tattoos will have scars littering them. Law felt Luffy's eyes on him and he couldn't look at the omega. Instead, he watched Chopper rub salves and powders on his wounds.

"Can I help?" Luffy asked.

Chopper paused in wrapping a bandage and looked at him. "I don't mind, but that's up to the patient,"

Law shrugged his shoulders and replied, "Sure."

Chopper gave Luffy a roll of bandages and told him to wrap it around the length of Law's forearm. Law held his arm out and let Chopper put some salve on the wounds before Luffy could cover them. He watched as Luffy wrapped his arm, but he wasn't doing a very good job. He told Luffy to make the bandages a little tighter. Luffy did so, but he pulled it too tight. Law bit back the little yelp that threatened to come up at the tightness of the bandage.

"There! All done!" Luffy said proudly.

"Thanks, both of you," Law said, his one arm throbbing slightly.

"Hey, since you're awake, tell me some more about this Doflamingo guy," Luffy said, pulling up a chair to Law's bed.

"I don't want to talk about him," Law said with a deep frown.

"Law really should rest, Luffy," Chopper said.

"Can't you tell me just a little bit?" Luffy asked.

Law let out a soft sigh, then said, "Fine, I'll tell you. I used to be a part of his pack some years ago, but I broke away and went off on my own. I made a pack of my own, and I thought I was fine until he decided to attack. He had greater numbers than us, and I was too sick to fight him. His wolf is very large, the biggest I've ever seen, and he is a ruthless Alpha Prime. And I fear what is happening to my omegas…"

"That's terrible," Chopper said.

Law nodded. "It gets worse, though. When he takes over packs, he will kill most of the alphas, making room for his own. Sometimes, he'll let strong alphas live, but they are submissive to his alphas. He usually kills the children of the packs he takes over, viewing them as a threat. He wants only children from his pack alphas, not others. He wants more territory and he's still growing his pack," Law clenched his fists. "He needs to be stopped,"

"You're right," Said Luffy. "He needs to get taken down! I'm going to be the Supreme, so I'll make sure to take him down for you!"

Law looked at Luffy noticing how angry he was. His face was almost beet red. "You can't take him down by yourself," Law said. "His wolf form is large, larger than most alpha primes. His pack is strong."

"So are we," Luffy said, punching his fist into his hand. "I don't like the sound of that guy at all. He sounds like a really big bully!"

"He's more than a bully," Law said.

"Don't worry, Traffy. I'll get your pack back for you!" Luffy said with a confident grin. "We can team up when you're better and take him down together!"

Law didn't understand where Luffy's confidence came from. Judging by first looks alone, Luffy is a slight male with more muscles than normal omegas but still fairly smaller than alphas. Omegas are supposed to submit to large, powerful alpha primes like Doflamingo. Law could get from Luffy that the omega wouldn't bow to any alpha. He was the first Omega Prime Law had ever heard of. He hasn't seen Luffy's wolf form, nor has he met the others in the pack. He didn't even know how large they were. Could they really take down Doflamingo? It didn't seem possible at first, but coming from Luffy, it did. This omega was just one surprise after the other, and Law found himself drawn to Luffy's cherry sweet scent again.

"You need to discuss this with the rest of the pack," Chopper told Luffy.

"Yeah, I will! But I'm so pumped right now thinking about that Doflamingo guy! I'm going for a night run!"

"Okay, be safe," Chopper said to him.

Law watched Luffy leave the room and wanted to see the male's wolf form. He enjoyed late night runs too. If he weren't so bandaged, he'd transform and run with him. But all he can do now is rest and get better. He still had a long way to go with healing.

Luffy transformed into his wolf after he left Chopper's ward and took off towards the woods. He usually went on a run with one of his friends, but for right now, he wanted to be by himself. The woods were alive with all the nighttime sounds. The moon glowed through the treetops, lighting his way. He ran as fast as he could, all four paws pounding on the forest floor.

Luffy ran until he came upon their pond where they did their fishing. They had built a small dock. He transformed back into his human form and sat on the dock, dipping his feet into the water. He never wore shoes because he didn't like them, and he was the only one in his pack that didn't. He let his toes play with the lilypads.

The pond was sparkling with the light of the moon and Luffy suddenly thought of Traffy being at his side. That thought startled him. He wanted to share this type of moment with Traffy, an alpha. He felt his cheeks pink a little at the idea. He thought back to how good the alpha smelled to him. Luffy had never reacted so strongly to a scent before. Whenever he was in heat, his senses would be heightened even more and all male alphas had to stay away from him. All except Zoro, who always stood guard at Luffy's hut until the heat was over. Sometimes having Sanji or Nami around during his heat would help ease the struggle.

This time, though, he wondered what it would be like to actually be with an alpha; and the alpha that kept coming to his mind was Traffy. He liked the alpha. He's never liked an alpha before. Zoro probably wouldn't be too happy about it. Zoro always protected and looked out for him when it came to other alphas. He loved Zoro a lot, but it wasn't a romantic kind of love. He always assumed that, if he wanted to have a mate, he could have Zoro. Zoro wouldn't say 'no' to him. But Luffy was also sure that Sanji really liked Zoro. An omega can tell when another omega liked an alpha. He couldn't do that to Sanji. He supposed they could share Zoro, but somehow, he didn't think Zoro would go for that.

But Traffy…or Law. That alpha was…there was something different about him. The alpha was in his thoughts again. He began to wonder what it would be like to kiss him. Or nuzzle him. Or lay beside him. He wanted to run with him through the orchards, and stuff themselves fat with cherries and tangerines. He wanted to go on hunts together, too. But what would mating with him be like? That thought almost had him falling off the dock! He's never had THAT type of thought before!

"Luffy?"

Luffy, startled, fell into the shallow part of the pond. He quickly stood up and got back on the dock. "Huh? Sanji? What are you doing out here?" He said to the tinted yellow-fur wolf.

"I saw you went running, so I followed you." Sanji transformed into a human. "You don't startle easily. What makes you so jumpy?"

"Oh! Nothing!" Luffy managed a grin. "Just…enjoying the evening!"

Sanji wasn't convinced. "Fine, don't tell me," he said, joining Luffy on the dock. "You know that mosshead doesn't like it when you run off, especially at night. He's worried you'll get yourself into trouble."

"I know, but I had so much pent up energy that I had to run," Luffy told him, then shared with Sanji what Law had told him and Chopper.

"I can see why you're pent up," Sanji said. "The omegas are suffering the worst."

Luffy nodded. "Yeah, and I don't like the way that guy rules packs. Once Traffy is better, we're going to help him take his pack back! I want to pulverize that Doflamingo guy!"

Sanji noticed something peculiar when Luffy spoke about Law. The other omega had flushed a bit. Did Luffy suddenly have a crush on the alpha? Zoro wouldn't like that. But should Luffy end up with that alpha, then he'll have a better chance of winning over Zoro. Being second best would be better than nothing.

"I think you like this Law guy," Sanji said, and he chuckled when he saw Luffy flush pink and look away. "It's okay to like someone, you know."

"Y-yeah, I know." Luffy put his feet back in the water, playing with the lilypads. "I think I like him, but that could just be my omega side liking an alpha. Finding an alpha mate would be hard because they wouldn't like to be with an omega who rules a pack. But I also don't think Traffy is like that. He doesn't seem like the type."

"Hm. Do you believe in fated mates?" Sanji asked him.

"I think so. I don't really know," Luffy replied. "I never thought about it before." He looked up at the moon. "I think about looking up at the moon with him, and running through the orchards. Things like that. What does that mean?"

Sanji smiled. "That you like him. I hate to say it, but when we omegas find a potential alpha mate, our feelings for them move fast."

Luffy flushed softly again. "I guess so. I only did just meet him…it's kind of weird."

"It's getting late. We should head back."

Luffy nodded, pulling his feet from the water and changing into his wolf form. He really wanted to see Traffy's wolf. Sanji transformed with him and Luffy still had some energy to burn off, so he challenged the other to a race back to the territory.

When they returned, most of the packs' windows were dark, indicating that they were sleeping. Luffy wasn't ready to go to bed yet, so he went to Chopper's place instead…to check on Traffy. The windows were also dark, but the door was unlocked. Luffy carefully pushed it open, peeking inside. Chopper was asleep in his bed, and Traffy was still in the same bed.

Luffy tip-toed over to the alpha and knelt next to the bed. He folded his arms on the bed and rested his chin on them thoughtfully. He took in the contours of Traffy's face, the sideburns, the little beard. He felt both his wolf and his omega side twitch with…something. Traffy seemed to be sleeping peacefully, and his cheeks weren't flushed with fever anymore.

Luffy stood up then and gazed down at the alpha's sleeping face. He had the sudden urge to kiss the other. He's never kissed anyone before, and it might be better to do it while Traffy was sleeping. Slowly, Luffy lowered his face to the alpha and placed a very chaste, gentle kiss on the other's lips. He blushed hard and covered his face with his hands. Traffy didn't wake up, which was good. Still, Luffy felt the need to run away, so he did, but made sure to close the door gently.

He ran to his hut and jumped into bed, throwing the quilt over his head. Luckily, no one had seen him. He just had his first kiss, and the person was sound asleep. There was no way he'd be getting any sleep tonight!

Law slowly opened his eyes to bright rays of light flooding through the window. He grumbled and rolled over, pulling the pillow over his head. He could tell his fever was gone, but the light still hurt. He has a headache now. But he had the weirdest dream. He dreamt someone was kissing him. It wasn't a fever dream, though. He knew it wasn't. But the kiss felt so real. Why would he be dreaming about someone kissing him? The other odd thing was his wolf- it was calling out for something. Law immediately thought of Luffy, and his inner wolf howled. He's never heard his wolf make that sound before. Folklore said that if you find a fated mate, your inner wolf would howl and let you know. The wolf wants to be with its mate. But that couldn't be…that was just a fairytale told to pups. He swore he would never take a mate, but with this new feeling, he wasn't so sure.

He became restless laying in the bed, so he looked around for Chopper only to find he was alone. Law got up and went to get his now dry clothes. He put his pants and shirt on, careful of his wounds. It hurt to walk around, but he could handle it. His body had been resting for too long. He needed to get his muscles moving again.

Law stepped outside and took a deep breath, taking in the clean, fresh air. It was a little breezy, and the wind blew through his hair. He then noticed two young women walking side-by-side, chatting, with baskets of cherries. Law thought of Luffy's scent instantly, and then he quickly shook it away. The two females noticed him and approached.

"You must be Trafalgar Law," Said the alpha woman with long dark hair. "Good morning."

"Good morning," Law said.

"You're looking better than the last time I saw you," Said the omega female with orange hair. "I'm Nami, this is Robin."

Law nodded to the both of them.

"We just picked some cherries, would you like one?" Robin showed him the basket filled with bright red cherries.

"Sure." He took a cherry and ate it, spitting out the seed. The sweetness of the cherry coated his dry throat. "It's good. You grow them here?"

"Those and tangerines," Nami said.

"Our cook is preparing to make more cherry wine," Robin said.

"Cherry wine?" Law raised a black brow. "Never heard of it."

"You'll have to try some at dinner tonight," Robin said. "Hopefully, you will come. If you're well enough?"

Law just nodded, unsure of what to say.

"Are you going to stay here long?" Nami asked him.

"Just until I'm fully recovered," Law replied. "Your pack leader said he would help me,"

"We're still discussing that among the pack," Said Nami.

"I see." Law assumed they had a pack like his, where everyone got a say. He wasn't the type to abuse his power as Alpha Prime but making all the decisions and forcing everyone to follow them. "That's fair," he added. "Mind if I walk around for a bit? I need to stretch my legs."

"Go ahead," Said Robin with a kind smile.

Law walked past them and shoved his hands into his pockets. He wanted to explore the pack's territory. The huts were nicely built, he noticed. He could see where the orchards were. Cutting across the center, he stepped into the cherry orchard, surrounded by green and red. The trees were bursting with succulent cherries, and Law couldn't help but pluck one off and eat it. Then, he heard someone on the other side of the row of trees. He stepped between two trees and came out the other side. Standing there, with cheeks filled with cherries, was Luffy. Law felt his inner wolf start to howl, and he took a step back from Luffy, his eyes wide.

Luffy stared back at him, also feeling his wolf struggling to break through to get to Traffy. The two just stood there, staring at one another.
