DISCLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter

John wished that things had gone more smoothly after DADA class, but it didn't, for the rest of the day, everyone that saw what happened in DADA had given John weird looks, everyone knew that they would see some odd things during their time in Hogwarts, but what happened with John in Defence Against the Dark Arts was just bizarre, students had been discussing theories about what John must have feared. When classes for the day had ended, John wanted to be by himself. Nearly Headless Nick had showed him to what appeared to be a ballroom in the dungeons, there were a few of the Hogwarts Ghosts hanging around, but they left John alone with his thoughts.

"John, you have some company."

John looked to see Isaac and Octavia approaching. Isaac had John's cat, Hecate, in his hands. He set the cat down and she ran to John, who picked her up and set her in his lap.

"We've been looking all over for you." Said Octavia

"I just wanted to be alone, after what happened in Defence Against the Dark Arts, I've heard everyone talking about me, I needed to get away from it."

"Well, it was a crazy sight, even Professor Potter didn't know what to think." Said Isaac

John didn't respond, only looked down to his cat and stroked her.

"John, tell me, what exactly is your worst fear?" asked Isaac.

John stared at his best friend, unsure of how to answer, eventually, he just said it.

"Becoming a Dark Wizard."

"A Dark Wizard? John, you're the nicest guy we've met since we got our Hogwarts letters, what makes you think you could ever be a dark wizard?" asked Octavia

"I'm sure plenty of dark wizard started as good people, but eventually something corrupted them, maybe a thirst for power, maybe uncontrollable anger and a desire for revenge, I'm scared that something will corrupt me to the dark arts, and I won't be able to resist temptation…"

John reached into his robe and set his wand on the nearby table.

"Even my wand, the core is dragon heartstring, I've read up on my wandlore, dragon heartstring is the easiest to turn to dark arts."

Isaac and Octavia shared a look, before Isaac took out his own wand and set it next to John's.

"Unicorn Tail Hair, the most faithful core but doesn't produce the most powerful magic…" said Isaac, before gesturing for Octavia to hand over her wand.

Octavia was a little confused, but handed her wand to Isaac.

"…hm, Alder wood, 10 and 3 quarter inches…Phoenix Feather?" asked Isaac

"Uh, yeah, that's exactly right."

"How'd you guess that?" asked John

"I've been reading up on my wandlore too, it's a fascinating subject, and I also know about your dragon core too, it's true that dragon heartstring may be the easiest to turn to the dark arts, but that's not a guarantee that you will become a dark wizard, I also know that dragon heartstring is supposed to be the most prone to accidents, but I've never seen you have an accident with your wand. As for power or revenge, we all know that's not the type of person you are." Said Isaac

John smiled at his friend.

"Thanks, that makes me feel a little better."

Later that day, John was ignoring the comments people were making amongst themselves. He was passing by the DADA classroom when he heard something coming from inside. Taking a look inside, he saw a familiar girl, Celestia Nightshade, the Slytherin girl who started the previous year as John's rival, before he saved her from Rudas and an Acromantula. She seemed face-to-face with a well-dressed man with neatly combed black hair, a pointed beard and a pair of glasses. He kept referring to Celestia as a freak, while Celestia kept trying to cast Riddikulus, but she was having as much success as John was earlier.

==The Next Day==

Everyone was enjoying lunch in the great hall when the owls arrived to deliver the post. A great amount of students were excited to get the post from their family, others dreaded the howlers. John got the shock when a large parcel arrived bearing his name and an attached note.

Win the cup for Gryffindor

-Ken

John smiled and opened the post, pulling out a new broom, the wood was almost white in colour with the carving of a wing near the handle. It was a Silver Wing, the newest broom on the market, capable of great speed and sharp turns. John couldn't wait to try it out.
