Chapter 1: Light Shines on a Rose
Summary
The Mythirian Numbers. 7 powerful Xyz Monsters forged from dust that exploded when the universe itself was first created. Whoever finds all 7 and combines their powers to summon the Golden Numeron Dragon, can then unlock the path to Numeron Code, an ancient energy formed from the big bang that grants the user omnipotence. It also serves as the battery of life, fueling the powers of special monsters such as the Mythirian Numbers and the human and Faunus duelists who control them.
But like any powerful source of light and life, there is also a source of darkness and evil to balance it, the Shadow Realm. A dark void filled with fiends and demonic beings that torment the lowest of the low in life. Salem, an immortal witch merged with the dark and cosmic powers of the Shadow Realm and its denizens, seeks the Numeron Code to obliterate the universe with herself, believing wiping out all reality will end her curse.
Team RWBY and her friends race against the clock to compete against Salem and her agents for these number cards. Blake Belladonna, a cat Faunus, is currently in battle for said Number card now. She huffed in exhaustion, having used up a lot of energy not only racing past the traps of a dangerous and ancient temple, but also using all her will to keep her composure, despite having all her aura, in the face of this ugly brute before her, the guardian of the number Dark Battle Ox.
"God I hate the way this beast looks at me." Blake groaned, her skin getting Goosebumps as the wounded guardian pants heavily, feeling its gross breath even from afar and behind her "Lunalight Leo Dancer". Honestly, the only thing more grotesque for her wasn't the bloody cuts on this beast as she wore it down to 1000 Aura was its monster "Rabid Horseman" foaming at the mouth as it neighed and moved its hybrid body around.
"That's it! It's my turn and I am going to need a hot shower after I finally wipe the field of you and that thing. Leo Dancer attack!" Blake roars in disgusts as her cat swordsman with 3500 ATK slices the horseman in half sideways, obliterating it and making Dark Battle Ox spit a bit of blood and saliva as its Aura points drops to 0 and it vanishes in a cloud of smoke to Blake's disgust.
Suddenly the statue the Ox was guarding, with the number 65 on its chest, begins glowing to Blake's shock before it shatters, revealing a glowing purple card with the specter of a twin bladed swordsman behind it.
"You have passed my trial child. As such you will be granted this number card. But be warned, with such a power comes risks of being targeted for it. There's also the risk of being consumed by its corruptive influence, take it at your own peril." The spirit said as the card ceased glowing and plopped by her feet. She picked it up, but the second she did her fingers began stinging as she felt a shock from the card surge her body slowly.
"Gah! Th-This is…the numbers power? It's more like a curse!" Blake yelled in pain, the number 65 appearing on her hand. Taking a deep breath, Blake began to concentrate, pouring her will into the hand she clasped the number with. The pain slowly began ebbing away along with the symbol on her hand.
"Woooo! That was…really…*huf*-" Blake sighed as she struggled to catch her breath. Suddenly her spine shivered as she felt a presence behind her, her cat ears perking as well as she heard a faint whisper as well cut her off…. And a sharp blade cut her back painfully.
"Close?" Cinder fall chuckled as she slashed with her duel disk, a red jagged blade-like disk, across Blake's back drawing a small gush of blood as Blake screamed before falling on her face, losing consciousness and the number card as it fell out of her hand. Cinder cackled as she picked up the card, careful to use the fiendish hand Salem implanted on her to avoid the corruptive influence of the numbers. She actually felt a surge of power and ecstasy instead, her legs trembling in excitement, as she got a bit high on the influence before composing herself. She wanted more of this power, power she felt rightfully belonged to her like Salem promised after adopting her years ago.
"Thank you so much for doing all the work for me kitty." Cinder arrogantly chuckled as she eyed the bloody and defeated Faunus before her. She then slowly walked over to her side, lifting a foot above Blake's head, intending to crush it. Though she wanted to enjoy watching this girl slowly bleed to death, she just had to get out of this dangerous temple quickly and get the other numbers soon.
"STOP!" Jaune cried out as he entered the room, Ruby in tow. Though Cinder opted to ignore his cries of defiance, she couldn't ignore a shine in the corner of her eyes as she lunged back after seeing a point aimed at her head. As she dodged what turned out to be Jaune's duel disk, she gritted her teeth in frustration as she saw Ruby Rose grab it and Blake and jump behind Jaune.
"Here! I'll tend to her wounds, they don't look too deep for first aide." Ruby said as she handed him back the duel disk and opened her backpack, getting a medical kit to start wrapping Blake's back in bandages. Still, the sight of Blake's blood infuriated Jaune, memories of his girlfriend Pyrrah being turned to ash and sent to the shadow realm by Cinder filling his head.
"Your going to pay for what you did to her…and to Pyrrah!" Jaune roared as he attached his duel disk to his left arm. Cinder just rolled her one good eye in annoyance. She already had the number and was seriously contemplating just leaving right now. However, the bitch in her just couldn't resist the urge to taunt this boy.
"Awwww, the little boy miss his dead girlfriend. I could turn you to ash like I did to her. It'd be easy, considering she didn't have a number on her like you." Cinder laughed. Jaune's face reddened as he snorted in anger at that comment, before his hand reached into his extra deck box and pulled out a card, catching Cinder's attention.
"Your wrong like all villains are Cinder. She gave me one!" Jaune roared as he held out "Number 39: Utopia". Cinder looked shock at the number card before licking her lips as her gaze narrowed in interest.
"Oh, so she gave her hubby a farewell present? Okay then, guess I could duel you for it. Let you live with the shame of losing her twice." Cinder cackled as she activated her duel disk, her non-seeing blank eye shining red as black ink painted a circle around the eye.

Jaune activated his and attached a duel gazer to his right eye.
"Augmented Reality Vision Link Established." (Computer voice)
"LET'S DUEL!" Both cry out as they gain purple meters with 4000 Aura points each.
"Since I crushed the "invincible champion", the new one will start this off!" Cinder sarcastically said as she drew her card.
Jaune groaned in annoyance not just from her hurtful comments but in annoyance as he saw her special summon 3 "Malicevorous'' gremlins, knowing what was coming next.

"I overlay my 3 level 2 fiends in order to build the Overlay Network! I Xyz summon, NUMBER 96: DARK MIST!" Cinder yells as from the golden portal of light, a black sludge ball emerges with 3 Overlay units twirl around it. Soon 2 jagged claws emerged from the sludge along with a pair of grotesque slimy feet. Fire spouts from the fiends head as a big jagged fang mouth opens, revealing Dark Mist completely with 100 ATK.
"She summoned a number on her first turn?!" Ruby yells amazed and in shock, worry for her friend filling her as she applied the bandage completely to Blake's back. Her only real assurance right now was the steady breathing her pale friend was giving her, showing she was still alive, something she hoped for Jaune after this duel.
"I place 3 cards face-down and end my turn. Come and get me if your still not a crybaby Arc!" Cinder yelled as she set 3 cards.
Jaune gave a battle cry as he drew, his burning desire for vengeance fueling him as he quickly summoned Trident Warrior and Zubaba knight with its effect. After changing the latter's level with a spell he then decided to fight Cinder and beat her at her own game.
"This is for you Pyrrah". Jaune thought.

"I Overlay my level 4 Trident Warrior and Zubaba Knight in order to build the Overlay Network. I Xyz Summon, Number 39: Utopia! Arise!" Jaune cried out as his number was summoned from a key-like statue that unfolded, a pair of golden wings shining as they unlocked, revealing a golden warrior with twin blades and a red number on its right shoulder with 2500 ATK. Cinder eyes the number, admittingly impressed with the design.
"Not bad, but it still will cower before me and my Dark Mist's power." Cinder yelled arrogantly.
"But how? Dark Mist's a wimp with only 100 ATK?" Jaune asked bewildered.
"NO JAUNE!" Ruby cried catching his attention as he looked behind him, seeing her look with concern as her red duel gazer flashed.
"What's wrong Ruby?" Jaune asked fearfully.
"I…I saw her use it against Pyrrah when…" Ruby cried a bit as she struggled to spill out the words. She was the one who saw that fiend send Pyrrah's ashes to the shadow realm to be tormented for all eternity. She knew its true power but it pained her to remember. She bit her lip as she used the pain to strengthen herself, she couldn't lose Jaune too.
"When it used its ability to steal half her last monsters attack points using an overlay unit. Be careful!" Ruby ordered. Jaune looked shocked, gasping a bit as saw her tears when he realized what Ruby went through that night their duel school Beacon was attacked. He lost Pyrrah, but so did she, and right in front of her eyes unlike him. He glanced at his hand with shame.
"Maybe I should have let her duel to avenge Pyrrah instead?" Jaune couldn't help but think. But as he did so, his eye caught a glimpse of a card that made him glance at Ruby's cloak and an idea struck.
"Maybe she still can?" Jaune thought as he eyed Ruby and smiled.
"Thanks Ruby! You roll girl. As for you Cinder, I'm gonna roll over your Dark Mist with this, GUARD ROBE EXCHANGE!" Jaune yelled as he equipped a spell giving Utopia a golden cloak around its neck raising it's ATK by 500 to 3000. Jaune then went to attack Dark Mist to Ruby's shock.
"JAUNE NO! IT'S ABILITY!" Ruby cried, wondering why Jaune attacked when she just told him the dangers, but Jaune just smirked confidently. He remembered, and in fact, he counted on it.
"Go Utopia! Rising Sun Slash!" He yelled as Utopia boomeranged a gold sword and prepared to slash Dark Mist after catching it. Cinder just smirked as he did so.
"Should have listened to lil' red boy. I activate Dark Mist's special ability! By using 1 overlay unit it steals half of Utopia's attack points SHADOW GAIN!" Cinder yells amused as Dark Mist breaths a gale of black wind at Utopia halving its new 3000 ATK to 1500. Cinder chuckled a bit before her eyes widen in shock seeing a smirk on the confident boy.
"You fell for it, I activate my robes effect. Since Utopia's attack points changed by your cards effect, this spell deals you damage equal to the change, 1500!" Jaune yells as Utopia's gold cloak shines a beam of light towards Cinder, but Jaune sweats nervously as he sees her smile.
"I play the trap, Enhanced Counter. Too bad Arc but I'm too smart for you. This trap makes any damage I take this turn go to Dark Mist's ATK instead." Cinder explained to Jaune and Ruby's shock, raising Dark Mist's ATK to 3100 as it eats the light ray.
"I use Utopia's special ability as well. By using 1 Overlay Unit it stops this attack. Go Light wing shield!" Jaune cried out as a unit went into Utopia's chest and it formed a golden shield from its wings, bouncing off Dark Mist.
"You won't stop this, go Battle Restart! This trap now restarts this battle so you just wasted Utopia's overlay unit. I won't as Dark Mist can now use Shadow Gain again without one thanks to this card!" Cinder yells to a surprised Jaune as Utopia is blasted once more with a dark gust reducing it's ATK to 750 and Dark Mist to 3850.
"Come on Arc, use Guard Robe again while you have a chance!" Cinder taunted him. Jaune eyed her field though, still seeing the shining Enhanced Counter trap.
"No. If I do that she'll just get more ATK points. I can't let her goad me, time for another Light Wing Shield." Jaune thought as he attempted to use the ability again but a cackle from Cinder frightened him. Her life was filled with nothing but Evil.
"I play the trap Xyz Block to use Dark Mist's overlay Unit and negate Utopia's ability. Nothing's going to stop me this time, WHIPLASH WHIRLWIND!" Cinder yelled as Dark Mist unleashes from its claws a volley of black sludge vines that whip Utopia making it explode. But that wasn't the end of the attack unfortunately, as the raging torrent of dark winds blasted his skin, Jaune felt every ounce of energy drain from his body. The wind was foul, like smog and vile, and its sharp sting as it sliced the skin on his forearms that covered his face was excruciating, but not more so than the intense pain his back felt after he was sent flying, unable to duck and roll and shield his body as it crashed into the cement floor a few feet away towards Ruby and Blake, his consciousness fading as his Aura drops to 900 to Ruby's concern.
"JAUNE!" She cried frantically.
"P-Pyrrah…I'm… so-" He whispered before passing out.
"Well I guess since he can't move he can't duel. Guess I win by default. I'll be taking your number card then and your soul too!" Cinder cackled as she shot out her Fiend Hand's dark Aura towards Jaune before she felt a sharp pain and saw the flash of a blade.
Ruby had drawn her duel disk, a curved red blade with a rose symbol called Crescent Rose, in anger as she cut Cinder's Aura making the assassin wince.
"GAH! Why you little bi-" Cinder cried before Ruby cut her off.
"YOU SHUT IT! Jaune still has 900 Aura left. Let me finish in his place!" Ruby yelled with demand.
"Oh, you think you can win with his low score? Fine by me, but you must also start with the cards he had left." Cinder demanded. Ruby grit her teeth as she eyed the 2 cards left in Jaune's hand, Counter Gate and Xyz Reborn, two stall traps that wouldn't suit her Rose deck well at the time. Then she had to basically top-deck rather than easily use her own resources to the fullest. This would be tough and she knew it.
"What's wrong? Too scared now? Maybe lil' Red should go home and back cookies with mama…oh wait! That's right, Salem sent her to the shadow realm too! HAHAHA!" Cinder mockingly laughed. Ruby's silver eyes reddened with rage as she heard this, thinking "screw it!".
"FINE! Get your Game On Cinder!" Ruby roared as she inserted her deck into her duel disk and grabbed Jaune's deck. She set the two cards and ended.
Cinder smirked as she drew again, believing it would easy to win like this. Ruby felt the pressure as she saw Cinder's cocky behavior and get a new hand with Card of Demise. Her stomach knotted as Cinder's hand glowed dark purple.
"Lets see what kind of damage the shadow realm can help me dish out. DARK DRAW!" Cinder roars as she draws a purple glowing card. Ruby winces in anxiety as Cinder then brought back 2 of her fiends, both with the same level. She knew what that meant, but what scared her more than an Xyz summon was that card Cinder created, whatever it was it was evil and chaotic no doubt about it.

"I overlay my Level 2 Malicevorous Spoon and Knife in order to build the Overlay Network. Cower in fear Rose as I summon the Number your pathetic kitty girlfriend lost, NUMBER 65: DJINN BUSTER!" Cinder yelled as she summoned a gold and purple fiend with two lance blades in both hands with 1300 ATK.
"Oh yeah!? Well two can bring out Xyz Monsters. I play Jaune's trap Xyz Reborn to revive Utopia in defense mode." Ruby says as Utopia arises from a purple portal and clasps its arms over its chest and kneels with 2000 DEF. Furthermore, Xyz Reborn now becomes Utopia's Overlay unit." Ruby finishes as the card becomes a ball of light and floats around Utopia.
"Dark Mist now attacks Utopia again! I use 1 overlay unit again as well, SHADOW GAIN!" Cinder yells as Utopia is blasted again dropping its ATK to 1250 and Dark Mist's rises to 5100. Ruby tries to use an overlay unit but Cinder cackles to her worry.
"What's so funny?" Ruby asks fearfully.
"The fact you thought I didn't see that coming. Well I did punk because Djinn Buster now uses 1 overlay unit to negate that ability and slash you with 500 points of damage." Cinder says to Ruby's shock as Djinn buster slashes 1 of its purple overlay units with one hand and Utopia with another destroying it and making Ruby wince as she feels the force of the explosion, her Aura dropping to 400.
"DJINN BUSTER END THIS DUEL!" Cinder yelled as she attacks directly with number 65 but Ruby shakes her head as she shrugs off the pain to push a button on Crescent Rose in response.
"Not so fast! I activate Jaune's other trap Counter Gate! It negates your direct attack and lets me draw HA!" Ruby yells as she draws and smiles looking at her card.
"Also, since it's a monster I drew I can summon it, go Red Rose Dragon in Defense mode!" Ruby yells as she summons a small lizard with black skin and red rose petals on it with 1800 DEF.
"Nice move Rose, but 2 can play at that game. I activate Rank-Up-Magic Quick Chaos!" Cinder yells to Ruby's shock.
"A Rank Up card!?" Ruby yells in shock.
"That's right! This card ranks up my Xyz monster into a Chaos Xyz monster. I Overlay Rank 2 Djinn Buster. With this 1 monster I rebuild the overlay network, go Chaos Xyz Evolution, I summon CHAOS NUMBER 65: KING OVERFIEND!" Cinder yells as a new fiend with a 1600 ATK, 2 chaos overlay units, and black purple and red scythe appears to Ruby's annoyance.
"Man! I'm the scythe wielder not you! Quit stealing Cinder!" Ruby yelled annoyed.
"Nope." Cinder denied with a cocky smirk.
"Gah! Fine, but its still not strong enough to destroy my Rose dragon." Ruby yelled defiantly only to pale as she heard Cinders chuckling.
"Nope again rose, my spell also lets King Overfiend use it's abilities right away. Watch as it uses one Chaos Overlay unit to lower your lame lizards ATK and DEF by 1000!" Cinder yells as Overfiend blasts red lightning at RedRose, lowering its DEF to 800.
"KING OVERFIEND SLICE AND DICE THAT LIZARD!" Cinder roars as Overfiend cuts the small dragon in half. Cinder ends her turn but is confident with no cards on her field or hand that Ruby's lost. But Ruby shrugs that off, still eyeing her Aura meter then draws.
"Long as I got Aura I'm not finished. I activate First Rose Harvest! Now this is a gamble, I draw 2 cards but if I play their effects this turn I lose 500 Aura per card." Ruby yells as she draws.
"Then play 1 and you lose. Giving up?" Cinder sneers. Ruby shakes her head.
"Nope. Just gonna set them and end." Ruby says in defiance as she sets a monster and a spell or trap.
"Fine then, your lucks run out. I draw! I play Obedience! Now when Dark Mist attacks your pitiful last line of defense it switches to Attack mode and will finish you off!"
Dark mist uses Whiplash whirlwind towards the set card that flips, revealing RoxyRose Dragon with 1600 ATK. Jaune hears cries and painfully raises his head as he wakes up, seeing Ruby wheezing as a surge of darkness blasts her monster. Jaune envisions Pyrrah in her place, making his blood sink.
"NO! DON'T DIE PLEASE!" Jaune cries. Ruby smiles as she hears this, reaffirmation he is alive and by her side.
"Not planning too! Reveal my Weed Pull trap card! Though I'll lose my monster, since it's a Rose dragon I'll survive with no damage this turn!" Ruby defiantly cries out. Cinder clicks her teeth in annoyance while Jaune sighs with relief.
'Tsk! So you lucked out again. Fine! I end my turn!" Cinder yells. At this point, her frustration fuels Jaune, helping him find the strength and cries out to Ruby.
"G-GO RUBY! MAKE HER PAY FOR ALL SHE TOOK FROM US!" Jaune painfully cheered. Ruby nods her head with a smile, that warm smile that eased Jaune as he sat down to her relief. His wounds weren't as bad as Blake's but he needed rest.
"Okay then….I need to pull off a major miracle here deck. Your made up of not monsters, but my friends. My other friends are hurt now, so I ask not just you, but the great Numeron Dragon whose mission of peace I've inherited….no! ALL DUEL MONSTER SPIRITS OF LIGHT, FILL ME WITH THAT LIGHT OH HOPE!" Ruby passionately thinks, a golden dragon with silver eyes roaring in her mind, as her hand and deck glows to Cinder and Juane's surprise.
"Okay! A truly powerful duelist can shape the outcome of any battle, she can even generate the very card she needs to draw. GO SHINING DRAW!" Ruby yells as she draws a glowing card. She looks at it and smiles with joy.
"Alright! It's here, I activate Card of Sanctity! This lets us both draw till we hold 6 cards. My friends…lend me your strength to win!" Ruby yells as she envisions Team JNPR and WBY placing their hands on her deck.
"For all of us!" They cheered in her head as she draws.
"Alright Weiss, lend me your power with White Rose Dragon!" Ruby says as she summons a small black dragon with white rose petals and 1200 ATK. Weiss spirit nodding to her as she does so.
"Next I play the spell Rose Blossom! By tributing a plant or Rose Dragon I'll get it's attack power as Aura." Ruby says as she tributes White Rose and gains 1200 Aura, raising her meter to 1600. She then envision's Nora, Ren and Pyrrah nodding.
"Man this is gonna sting, but I play the spell Soul Charge. Now I can resurrect any monsters from my graveyard, but they can't attack and I take 500 points of damage per monster!" Ruby yells. Blake, Weiss, Blake and Yang nodding in her vision next.
"GAH! N-Now appear! White Rose, RoxRose, and Number 39: Utopia!" Ruby yells as she is shocked by small electricity from her duel disk as it drops to 100 aura but summons those three from a portal in the ground in Attack Mode.
"Why hurt yourself for monsters that can't even fight for you? You should have put them in Defense mode to shield yourself but now this duel is mine because you played like an amateur." Cinder scoffs.
"An amateur is someone who counts the duel as won before it actually is." Ruby counters confidently to Cinder's nervousness, a cold sweat falling from her cheek.
"I tune level 3 RoxRose to WhiteRose. Now watch as the stars illuminate the darkness, allowing a brilliant light to help the seeds of a beautiful dragon blossom. I Synchro Summon! Dazzle them Blackrose Moonlight Dragon!" Ruby yells out as a dragon with red roses, black vines, and a yellow glow roars from a portal and flies out into the sky with 2400 ATK.
"Yes! Ruby's ace monster!" Jaune yells, now confidant Ruby will win.
"I activate her special ability. When she's summoned she sends 1 card on your field back to your hand so say goodbye to Dark Mist. Rose petal storm!" Ruby yells as Black Rose sends a whirlwind of rose petals towards Dark Mist who simply blows it away to Ruby and Jaune's shock.
"What the!? Why wasn't Dark Mist removed?" Jaune cries out but Cinder chuckles.
"King Overfiend has another special ability. Your monsters can't use their special abilities as long as King Overfiend remains on the field. Next I activate the trap Small Stopper. Now if you don't attack with your attack position monsters here, you lose 1000 Aura! So what now Rose?" Cinder asks mockingly after explaining joyfully.
Ruby examines her field and hand and groans. Her cards can't overcome Dark Mist at least. She'l lose on the next turn if it attacks.
"Man. What can I do now? I…I can't…lose this. I have to avenge my-" Ruby whimpers softly, frustration and fear filling her. Seeing this, Jaune groans as he painfully ignores his sores and gets up to pat her on the back to her shock.
"You can't maybe, but together we can!" Jaune yells enthusiastically as he glows a golden aura around him. His power and enthusiasm lights a match in Ruby's heart, she shook her head, ashamed she ever doubted herself.
"Your right Jaune. We can do this. Now lets go!" Ruby says as she glows a bit as well to Cinder's shock.

"What are you 2 doing?!" Cinder asks fearfully.
"Winning this duel Cinder. Now Utopia, the time has come to transcend our limits!" Jaune yells out as Utopia flexes its arms, Juane and Ruby's extra deck slot glowing.
"GO CHAOS XYZ EVOLUTION! APPEAR CHAOS NUMBER 39: UTOPIA RAY!" Ruby and Jaune yell out as Utopia returns to key form and goes into the Xyz universe portal, coming out as a black key that glows gold before forming a new chaos number with 2500 ATK.
"No way! How could they summon a chaos number!?" Cinder asks in shock but Ruby snickers amused.
"By believing in the bond we shared and the light that fueled it. THE LIGHT OF HOPE!" Ruby yells as her hand clasps Jaunes, both now glowing to Cinder's shock. The golden numeron dragon roars again as its spirit fuels the two, making a card in Ruby's hand glow.
"The time has come for us to showcase the true power of this card and shine the path to victory. SHINING EVOLUTION!" They both yell as the trap Darkest Rose changes to Change of Heart to Cinder's bewilderment.
"WHAT!? HOW DID YOU CHANGE YOUR CARD!?" Cinder yelled in disbelief. Ruby and Jaune ignored her simply deciding to play it.
"Time to bring Overfiend towards the right path. I activate Change of Heart to give it a new perspective. COME TO ME OVERFIEND!" Ruby yells as Overfiend's heart glow's gold and looks at Cinder with disdain before slowly walking towards Ruby.
"HEY! GET BACK HERE!" Cinder cries out in rage, but Overfiend ignores her.
"Doesn't feel to good when someone steals from you huh?" Jaune asks with contempt making Cinder groan annoyed.
"Now to make you fully understand our pain for taking our friends lives on top of that!" Ruby yells as she envisions Penny, Pyrrah and all the students at Beacon slaughtered by Cinder that night.
"I activate the spell Frozen Rose! Now I can freeze up Overfiend and destroy it! Then I can add Rose Princess to my hand!" Ruby yells as Overfiend is frozen in ice and smashed by Blackrose Moonlight's vines.
"Now I can use monster abilities again, which means I can discard Rose Princess to activate the field spell Rose Cloistor!" Ruby yells as a mausoleum of white appears around them filled with white red and yellow roses.
"Now all Synchro Monsters I summoned this turn gain 1000 Attack points like our Black Rose." Jaune says as Moonlight roars powering up to 3400 ATK.
"Still not good enough to beat Dark Mist!" Cinder counters.
"True, so lets change that shall we?" Ruby asks as she holds up the last card in her hand to Cinder's shock.
"I activate the spell Synchro Shine! Now since I got a light Synchro monster out I can add it's attack points to another monster out but any damage it inflicts to you is halved. I add Moonlight's attack to Utopia Ray!" Ruby yells as a light shines from her dragon that transfers to Utopia Ray making it glow gold and raising its ATK to 5900.
"Not done yet I activate Utopia Ray's special Ability. Overlay Charge!" Utopia Ray grabs its black sword which glows gold as its overlay unit powers it up increasing its power to 6400 ATK and lowering Dark Mist to 4100.
"Damn it Noooo! If I take 1150 damage from this battle then get blasted by her dragon's 3400….I'll be completely wiped out in a single turn!" Cinder thinks in horror before remembering her set card. Ruby and Jaune ignore her, only caring about enacting the plan she envisioned.
"UTOPIA RAY! ATTACK DARK MIST GO RISING SUN CHAOS SLASH!" They yell in unison.
"I activate the trap CHAOS RETURN to stop your attack by discarding a spell!" Cinder roars in defiance as a stream of black fog stops Utopia Ray as it covers its eyes to the hero's shock.
"There's more! I must then activate a different spell than Dark Hole in my graveyard. I ACTIVATE RANK UP MAGIC QUICK CHAOS!" Cinder yells as her graveyard shines a purple beam of light that blasts Dark Mist's back, mutating it as a circle of black, green and purple energy envelops it.
"APPEAR CHAOS NUMBER 96: DARK STORM!" Cinder roars as a Quadruped Demon with red jagged fangs and claws and a chaos overlay unit and 1000 ATK appears.
"Dark Mist became a chaos number too?" Jaune yells in shock.
"That's right Arc but there's more. Remember how my trap stopped your Utopia Ray before? Well that was temporary because its now forced to attack again!" Cinder yells to the duo's surprise.
"Why? You'll lose more Aura now?" Ruby asks, knowing Cinder will lose at least 2700 from this attack. She gasped as she saw the sadistic grin on Cinder's face, knowing she had a plan.
"True, but not enough to lose. You on the other hand will because Dark Storm's special ability makes it so both players take the battle damage when destroyed!" Cinder yells to Jaune's shock.
"We're cooked! If this attack goes through we lose the rest of our Aura!" Jaune yells but Ruby gripped his hand firmly, her gaze not losing confidence and seriousness to Jaune's shock.
"Not so fast Cinder I activate Synchro Shine's other effect from my graveyard!" Ruby yells as the card appears suddenly from her grave in a glow to Cinder's surprise.
"Your playing a spell from your Graveyard?!" Cinder asked shocked and Ruby nods.
"Yup! By banishing this card I can banish from my field and graveyard monsters to summon a Rose Dragon or Light Synchro monster. I tune level 3 RoxRose dragon and Level 7 Moonlight Dragon. Behold as the sun shines once more, strengthening our bonds of hope for a better day, a better meal to grow, and a better dragon. I Synchro Summon, RUDDY ROSE DRAGON!" Ruby cries out as a larger Blackrose Dragon appears with 3200 ATK.
"Then I activate my field's spells effect, raising my dragon's attack points by 1000 since its level is higher than 6!" Jaune yells joyfully as their dragon's ATK rises to 4200.
"What of it, your Utopia Ray will doom you like I did your friends at Beacon before you even get a chance to use it!" Cinder yells mockingly.
"Nope. Ruddy Rose Dragon destroys and banishes all other cards on the field when Synchro Summoned Cinder!" Jaune yells in defiance.
"Not happening! I use Dark Storms other special ability to use 1 chaos Overlay Unit and negate its ability and zap your dragon's attack points to ZERO! GAME OVER!" Cinder yells as Dark Storm devours the unit and sends a beam of purple and black fire towards Ruddy Rose. But Ruby just smirks.
"Yup, you just lost" Ruby says nonchalantly.
"WHAT!" Cinder says in shock.
"A Synchro monster can't be effected by your Dark Monsters special abilities the turn their summoned with Synchro Shine. Furthermore, even if my garden field spell leaves the field, those Synchro monsters keep their attack bonus until the end of this turn!" Ruby yells as Ruddy Rose whips everything in play with vines and throws them into the air, blowing them out of the temple with a tornado of rose petals that reveals the sun shinning in the sun above as dawn breaks to Cinder's horror.
"NO! NO WAY! THIS CANNOT BE!" Cinder yells in horror.
"Now in the memory of Pyrrah, Penny and all the other innocents you sent to the shadow realm in the name of your arrogant desire for power, WE WILL WIN AND CLAIM THEIR JUSTICE!" Ruby yells in anger as Cinder winces in fear. She tries to run but Ruddy's vines snag her foot, making her fall on her face as its tears up, looking up at the angry dragon's face whimpering in fear. She soon remembered her childhood, how she was a servant for her family, how helpless and frightened she was like now. She hated this feeling, she had to make it stop somehow.
"N-No wait…please mercy, I can't lose everything again!" Cinder pathetically cries out, but this is the last straw for Ruby and Jaune who fix her a death glare.
"You don't deserve anything after all you've taken. Now feel the horrors you inflicted upon our friends! ATTACK WITH ROSE FLAME IMPACT!" Ruby and Jaune yell in unison as Ruddy unleashes a red and black stream of fire surrounded by black rose petals at a screaming Cinder whose Aura drops from 4000 to 0.
A screen appears in the holographic area showcasing Ruby and Jaune's faces as the winners. Ruddy Rose vanishes at that point as the duel ends.
Ruby sighs as she slowly walks towards Cinder, her hand out as the burned girl whimpers and slowly crawls away on her back.
"Please….Please!" Cinder cries but Ruby grits her teeth in anger.
"Not after what you did. I'm taking your numbers. Be grateful I won't take your pathetic soul, it probably would make me puke." Ruby said with disdain as her hand glowed gold ready to steal back the numbers Cinder took.
Suddenly a black and red portal appeared beneath Cinder with many shadow hands wrapping around her neck and torso to her horror and Ruby and Jaune's shock.
"No Salem! Please spare me!" Cinder cried tearfully as she was dragged down.
"You have served your purpose child. Your soul and numbers will fuel me and the shadow realm for the rest of this universe's short days. Oh and Rose…count yourself lucky I'm in a hurry for the other numbers, or I'd devour you too." Salem's voice echoes as her red eyes glowed from the portal as Cinder was fully dragged down in fright. Ruby and Jaune, now holding Blake in his arms princess style, stood there in shock.
"Man…that witch gives me the chills." Ruby said to break the ice and Jaune nodded before his face turned sour.
"We lost. We couldn't get the Mythirian number. Now Salem's one step closer to the numeron code." Jaune somberly said. Ruby just sighed as she saw his point, but glanced above as a light shined on her face. Seeing the small faint sun covered by a cloud not only didn't blind her it gave her a new sense of hope.
"Jaune, we didn't lose." Ruby said with a smile. Jaune looked at her bitterly in return.
"How can you say that? We didn't get-" He tried to say but she held a hand to his lip.
"No, no, no! Don't say that. It's not helpful. Who cares if we lost a number card or two when we kept our souls? Better yet, when for once we didn't lose a friend." Ruby asked as she placed a hand on Blake, who gave a small groan as she snuggled her sleeping head into Jaune's chest. Her breathing, her warmth, it touched the Arc as he realized Ruby was right.
"*SIGH* You're right Ruby. For once we didn't lose anybody. We were close, but thank God we didn't." Jaune said softly. As they gazed upon the sun being uncovered by the dark cloud, they knew the coming storm was upon them. Salem got one number, but wouldn't stop them from getting the others and challenging her for it.
"Salem. Enjoy your power now. When we're done with you and your lapdogs, your gonna be a crying mess like Cinder believe it!" Ruby bitterly said as she gripped hand, holding her Ruddy Rose Dragon and Utopia Ray as their glows faded.
Featured Duel 1: Blake Belladonna vs Dark Battle Ox
Duel is already in progress. Blake controls "Lunalight Leo Dancer" (Star 10/ 3500 ATK), 4000 Aura, and no other cards while Dark Battle Ox has only Rabid Horseman in Attack Mode (Star 6/ 2000 ATK) and 1000 Aura.

Featured Duel 2: Jaune Arc vs Cinder Fall
Duel will be conducted under Yugioh Zexal anime duel rules (4000 LP start, only 5 monster zones, no pendulum or link, and first turn player can draw)
Note: LP is now Aura here for obvious reasons.
Turn 1: Cinder Fall
Cinder draws. She then normal summons Malicevorous Spoon (2 star/100 ATK/500 DEF) in Attack Mode. Then by sending Malicevorous Knife from her hand to the graveyard, Cinder can now special summon Malicevorous Fork via it's own effect (Star 2/400 ATK/400 DEF) in Attack Mode. Cinder then activates "Spoon's" effect to special summon from her graveyard a "Malicevorous" monster, she chooses "Knife" (Star 2/600 ATK/100 DEF) in Attack Mode. Cinder overlays "Fork", "Knife", and "Spoon" to XYZ summon Number 96: Dark Mist (Rank 2/100 ATK/1000 DEF/ ORU: 3) in Attack Mode. Cinder sets 3 cards and ends her turn.

Turn 2: Jaune Arc
Jaune draws. Jaune then normal summons Trident Warrior (Star 4/1800 ATK/1200 DEF) in Attack Mode. Since he normal summoned it, he can use his monsters special ability to special summon a level 3 monster from his hand. Jaune special summons Zubaba Knight (Star 3/ 1600 ATK/900 DEF) in Defense Mode. Jaune then plays the spell Star Changer to increase or decrease the level of a target monster by 1 this turn. Jaune targets Zubaba Knight and increases by 1 (Star 3 - 4). Jaune then overlays his 2 level 4 warriors to XYZ summon Number 39: Utopia (Rank 4/ 2500 ATK/2000 DEF/ ORU: 2) in Attack Mode.
Jaune then equips "Utopia" with "Guard Robe Exchange", which increases its ATK by 500 ("Utopia": 2500 – 3000 ATK). Jaune attacks "Dark Mist" with "Utopia", but Cinder activates the effect of "Dark Mist" to detach 1 overlay unit and half the ATK of the monster that battles it and then gain those ATK for itself ("Dark Mist ORU: 3 – 2, ATK 100 – 1600) ("Utopia" 3000 – 1500 ATK). Jaune then activates "Guard Robe Exchange" effect to inflict damage to Cinder's Aura equal to the change in his equipped monsters ATK by another cards effect. Since Cinder's effect cost "Utopia" 1500 ATK, Cinder loses 1500 Life Points but Cinder chains with her trap "Enhanced Counter" whose anime effect targets "Dark Mist". Until the end of this turn, the targeted monster will gain ATK whenever its controller would take Effect Damage and all Effect Damage is reduced to 0. "Guard Robe Exchange" Effect resolves increasing "Dark Mist" ATK via "Enhanced Counter" by the damage Cinder would have taken ("Dark Mist" 1600-3100 ATK). Jaune chains by activating Utopia's ability to use 1 overlay unit and negate this attack ("Utopia" ORU: 2 – 1). Cinder then activates her next trap "Battle Restart" to force the battling monsters to restart their last battle (Note: ORU will remain as they currently are as activated effects will be initiated once more) so "Utopia" attacks "Dark Mist" again allowing the latter to use its effect again ("Utopia" 1500 – 750 ATK)("Dark Mist" 3100 – 3850 ATK). Cinder tries taunting Jaune into use "Guard Robe Exchange" to damage her again, but Jaune doesn't fall for it, remembering "Enhanced Counter" is still in play so Cinder would just increase her monsters attack points again. Jaune attempts to activate Utopia's effect again but Cinder chains with her last trap "Xyz Block" to use an Overlay Unit from "Dark Mist" to negate that effect. The attack continues and "Utopia" is destroyed (Jaune Arc: 4000 – 900 Aura).
At this point, Jaune Arc is badly injured and rendered unconscious. Ruby Rose takes over the duel, using her own deck but must start with Jaune's amount of Aura points and the cards currently in his hand (Xyz Reborn and Counter Gate).
Ruby sets Juane's last 2 cards and ends her turn.

Turn 3: Cinder Fall
Cinder draws. She then activates "Card of Demise" which Anime effect lets her draw until she holds 5 cards in hand but must discard her entire hand after 5 of her turns pass. Cinder draws 5 cards then activates one of them, "Monster Reborn" to special summon "Malicevorous Spoon" then she special summons via its effect "Malicevorous Knife" from her graveyard. Cinder overlays "Spoon" and "Knife" to Xyz Summon "Number 65: Djinn Buster" (Rank 2/ 1300 ATK/0 DEF/ ORU: 2) in Attack Mode.
Cinder attack directly with "Dark Mist" but Ruby activates her set trap "Xyz Reborn" to special summon "Utopia" from Jaune's graveyard in DEF mode (ATK 2500/2000 DEF/ORU: 0-1) and attach the trap as an Overlay unit. Cinder uses Dark Mist's special ability(Dark Mist: ORU 1 – 0) to half Utopia's attack points and gain those ATK for itself (Utopia 2500 – 1250 ATK)(Dark Mist 3850 – 5100 ATK). Ruby then uses Utopia's ability to detach 1 Overlay Unit to negate this attack, but Cinder chains with Djinn Buster's special ability to use 1 Overlay unit to negate Ruby's monster effect and inflict 500 damage to Ruby's Aura ("Djinn Buster" ORU: 2 - 1) (Ruby 900 - 400 Aura). "Utopia" is destroyed and Cinder attacks directly with "Number 65" but Ruby chains with her trap "Counter Gate" to negate the attack and draw a card and special summon it if it's a monster. She draws Red Rose Dragon (Star 3/Tuner/1000 ATK/ 1800 DEF) and special summons it in Defense mode.
Cinder activates her quick-play spell "Rank-Up-Magic Quick Chaos" to immediately Xyz summon a Chaos Number that's 1 rank higher than a Xyz Monster she controls as material. Cinder overlays Rank 2 "Djinn Buster" to Xyz Summon "Number C65: King Overfiend" (Rank 3/1600 ATK/ 0 DEF/ ORU: 2) in Attack Mode. Furthermore, Quick Chaos lets Cinder use it's effect right away. While Overfiend's on the field face-up, Ruby's monsters cannot activate their abilities. It then uses 1 Chaos Overlay unit to lower the ATK and DEF of 1 monster on Ruby's field by 1000. Cinder choose "Red Rose" (DEF 1800-800) (King Overfiend ORU: 2-1).
"King Overfiend" attacks and destroys "Red Rose". Cinder sets 2 cards and ends her turn.

Turn 4: Ruby
Ruby draws and plays the spell "First Rose Harvest". Since she has a Rose Dragon monster on the field or Graveyard she is allowed to draw 2 cards, but she is forbidden to summon non-Dragon or Plant monsters this turn. Furthermore, she takes 500 Points of damage this turn if she activates the 2 cards she drew.
Ruby sets a card and a monster and ends.

Turn 5: Cinder
Cinder draws, in 4 more turns she must discard due to Card of Demise's effect. She activates the spell "Obedience" and targets "Dark Mist" with it. Now when her targeted monster attack she can force one Defense Position monster Ruby controls into Face-Up attack position.
"Dark Mist" attacks Ruby's set monster. "Obedience" effect activates, forcing it to flip into Attack Mode, revealing it to be "RoxRose Dragon" (Star 3/tuner/1600 ATK/1200 DEF).
Ruby activates her set Trap "Weed Pull" since a Dragon or Plant monster was targeted by an attack or effect. This turn she takes no battle damage but if she has any monsters on the field at the end phase of this turn she loses 500 Aura per monster. "RoxRose" is destroyed.
Cinder ends (Cards in hand 1). Weed Pull's effect activates but since Ruby has no monsters on her field she takes no damage.
Turn 6: Ruby
Ruby, fueled by her friend's cheers, performs a Shining Draw Draw. She activates the spell card "Card of Sanctity" to allow both players to draw from their decks till they hold 6 cards in hand.
Ruby summons "White Rose Dragon" (Star 4: 1200 ATK/ 1000 DEF). Ruby then plays the spell "Rose Bud Blossom" (Mystic Wok really just like the name better) to tribute "White Rose" and gain Aura equal to its ATK (Ruby 400 – 1600 Aura). She then plays the spell card "Soul Charge" whose anime effect lets Ruby special summon as many monsters from her graveyard as she wants but loses 500 Aura per monster and can't attack with them this turn. She summons "Utopia" "White Rose" and "Red Rose Dragon"(Star 3/tuner/ 1000 ATK/ 1800 DEF) in Attack mode. (Ruby 1600 – 100 Aura).
At this point Jaune Arc regains consciousness and resumes the duel by Ruby's side. Jaune performs a "Chaos Xyz Evolution" using his "Utopia" as Xyz material to summon "Number c39: Utopia Ray" (Rank 4: ATK 2500/ 2000 DEF/ ORU: 1".
Ruby tunes her "Red Rose Dragon" to "White Rose" to Synchro Summon Blackrose Moonlight Dragon (Star 7: 2400 ATK/1800 DEF) in Attack Mode. She then attempts to use its effect to return "Dark Mist" to Cinder's extra deck, but ''King Overfiend" prevents that effect.
Cinder activates her trap "Small Stopper" Now monsters with less than 1000 ATK can't attack and each player will take 1000 Aura damage if they did not declare an attack with a face-up Attack position monster they control.
Jaune then lends his aide to Ruby allowing her to access the powers of the light dragon within her to perform Shining Evolution, changing the trap in her hand "Darkest Rose" to "Change of Heart".
Ruby then plays "Change of Heart" to take control of King Overfiend and then tributes it with the spell "Frozen Rose" to add "Rose Princess" to her hand. Ruby then activates its effect to discard it and add "Rose Cloister" to her hand and activates it. Now all level 7 or higher synchro monsters she controls gains 1000 ATK. (Moonlight 2400- 3400 ATK). Ruby then activates the spell "Synchro Shine" which allows her to activate 2 effects this turn. Ruby plays the first effect to add a Synchro Monsters ATK to another Light monster she controls but any battle damage that light monster inflicts is halved ("Utopia Ray" 2500 – 5900). Ruby and Jaune then use Utopia Ray's ability to use 1 Overlay unit while having less than 1000 Aura to gain 500 ATK and decrease the ATK a monster on Cinder's field by the 1000 until the end phase. ("Utopia Ray" 5900-6400 ATK/ ORU: 1-0)("Dark Mist" 5100 – 4100 ATK).
Ruby and Jaune then attack but Cinder activates her trap "Chaos Return" to negate Utopia Ray's attack, discard a spell, and then activate a spell from her graveyard with a different name. Cinder discards "Dark Hole" to activate "Rank-Up-Magic Quick Chaos" again to Xyz Summon using "Dark Mist" as material to summon "Number C96: Dark Storm" (Rank 3: 1000 ATK/ 1000 ORU: 1) and then force "Utopia Ray" to attack it, threatening if its destroyed both players will take the battle damage.
Ruby and Jaune then chain this with the second effect of "Synchro Shine" which lets Ruby banish it from the graveyard along with a Synchro monster on her field and a tuner in her graveyard to Synchro summon immediately using those monsters as materials and the Summoned monster gains an effect until the end phase, after which it's destroyed.
She banished "Moonlight" and "Red Rose Dragon" then tunes "Red Rose" with "Black Rose" to Synchro summon "Ruddy Rose Dragon" (Star 10/ ATK 3200/2400 DEF). Due to the effect of Ruby's field spell it gains 1000 ATK ("Ruddy" 3200 – 4200 ATK)
Ruby attempts to use its effect to destroy and banish all other cards on the field and graveyards, but Cinder chains with the effect of "Dark Storm" using 1 Chaos Overlay unit to target "Ruddy Rose Dragon" and negate its effect and lower its ATK to 0. Jaune then reveals the monster Synchro summoned with "Synchro Shine" is unaffected by dark monster effects this turn so the effect fails and Ruddy destroys and banishes all spell and trap cards, Dark Storm and Utopia Ray. Due to the effect of Ruby's field spell, even if leaves the field all level 7 of higher Synchro monsters summoned this turn keep the 1000 ATK bonus.
Ruby and Jaune attack Cinder directly with Ruddy Rose Dragon (Cinder 4000 – 0 Aura).

Okay! First duel of the series. Not a huge fan of Zexal's goofy characters but did love the monsters. Plus Xyz are my favorite so felt they should get the first cut of the action, plus Ruby's synchros. Today's winners are Utopia and Black Rose Dragon light archetypes. Next time we have Yang vs Weiss.
