Wylan and Jesper had been tasked to clear the bodies from the room. King was to be hidden on the second floor. The two men were dropped down the hatch by the entrance door with the previous thugs. Before dropping them, their outer clothes were removed as they would be needed later in the plan. Jesper had suggested they leave the trap door open so Kinker could fall into it upon entering, but Kaz had nixed the plan as he wanted the man alive. As usual Kaz held the card tight to his chest, and didn't reveal why.

After finishing with the bodies Jesper met up with some of the Dregs members who had gotten their message back at Slat. They were told to send two named members of the Dregs on order from Kaz. It was members that with the right clothes and paint would have more than a passing resemblance to the two latest thugs Kinker had hired.

Jesper was also told to find Kat Valdez, and tell her to be ready. When Jesper had asked about who she was Kaz had only informed him that she was an old acquaintance, and that she could be found working at the bakery on 7th street.

Wylan and Inej had raided the offices upstairs for cleaning equipment, and used it to remove most of the blood from the first floor and the spots in the cellar that wasn't near Kaz. The stains they couldn't get out would hopefully be hidden by the dim lighting and grubby floors.

Beside giving orders Kaz had remained in his seated position, reserving what strength he could for what he knew was to follow. He ignored the worried glances the rest of his crows sent his way. His head had thankfully cleared somewhat, the dizziness from the drugs slowly receding in exchange for a different sensation.

Where he had earlier just felt a warm sensation from the injection site, he could now feel small tendrils of pain shooting out from it. The were very mild at first, but seemed to gradually be increasing in strength. He knew it wasn't a good sign. Without knowing what he had been injected with, it would be near impossible to come up with any kind of antidote or similar, but perhaps someone who was a master of science could figure it out.

As soon as the set up was near complete, Kaz called over Wylan for a quiet conversation. He handed Wylan the syringes he had taken from King. "I need you to examine this in your workshop".

"But you said I was needed here for your plan," Wylan protested weakly.

"That's okay, we're switching to Plan H, and you aren't needed for that."

Wylan accepted the syringes, still uncertain what was being asked of him.

"Take those to your workshop, and try to figure out what's in them, what it does and how to counteract it, but don't inject any on yourself as it could be dangerous," Kaz explained.

Wylan looked taken aback. "Did you or Inej…"

Kaz broke him off "Yes, I did, but keep that to yourself. I will try to get information from Kinker, but if not, this is up to you."

Wylan pulse spiked, fear filling him. "But what if I can't figure it out? What will happen to you? Will you be okay?"

Kaz realized he had shared too much. He needed to calm Wylan's nerves if he was to be of any use to him.

"Wylan, I'm fine. King only managed to inject a very small dose, so this is just a safety precaution. It is most likely harmless, especially in such a low quantity, but it is always better to know what we're dealing with to be sure. You're the only one that is smart enough to figure this puzzle out, and that's why I need you out there working on those, and not here. We can handle this thing easily with the people we already have, so your gifts are better spent elsewhere."

Wylan hid the syringes in his pocket. His earnest, worried eyes locking onto Kaz's as he gave a solemn nod, a promise he would keep Kaz's secret and do his utmost to complete the task. He rose and headed off, his steps determined.

Kaz knew he should have told Wylan about the effects he had felt thus far, and that he feared the drug was dangerous, but he shielded Wylan from the seriousness of the task to make sure he didn't panic. His own task was to get information from Kinker. After that, he would die.

Jesper retuned with the two Dregs members just before daybreak. The two Dregs members changed into the thugs clothing. Inej helped with the hair and beard, trying to make them as similar as possible. It wouldn't fool anybody who knew the real thugs, but to someone who had just met them once and in passing the resemblance should be good enough. Jesper had queried about Wylan, but Kaz had just said he had sent Wylan away on another task, not elaborating, no matter how many questions Jesper asked.

The last task before the set up was finished was for Kaz to return to his chained position. Jesper and Inej had argued for different scenarios that would explain a change in position where Kaz would have more control, but Kaz had refused. There were already too many small differenced that could alert Kinker, and he was betting on the image of himself, helpless, weak and chained, would be enticing enough to lure Kinker into a false sense of security, and to make him talk. Kaz's body, wrists and arms protested heavily at once again being shackled and forced to hold his weight, but he would deal with the familiar pain like he had done so many times before.

Inej hid away in the roof rafters, knife in hand. Jesper had wanted to be in the room, but there were no hiding places that would accommodate his long frame and flamboyant outfit, so he had been relegated to hide in the upper floors with King's body. His signal to enter would be the sounds of a gunshot, or the hatch flying open. The two Dregs members where stationed on the first floor, playing a game of cards while waiting for Kinker to arrive.
