Welcome to the first chapter of Pokemon Academy! I've received quite a few submissions of characters, but only have two OC's for today due to them being the earliest ones when I was writing this first chapter. However, I encourage you all to send your own OC's as I'm going to have quite a bit. Also, regarding the fight between two people in my reviews. For the guest who was harshly criticizing the idea of having submitted characters by viewers. I encourage this because it is more interactive for readers, not because I'm a lazy writer. If this upsets you, you're free to not have to read this story. I always encourage criticism, but not from somebody who is clearly being overdramatic and emotional over something so trivial. Now that that's off my mind, I hope you all enjoy the first chapter. Don't forget to leave a review and submit an OC if you'd like!
Chapter 1: Welcome to Champions Academy
Located next to Jubilife City, Champions Academy was just a small ten minute walk away from the largest city in Sinnoh. The Academy had been recently relocated to Sinnoh, making it the most prestigious and largest in the region. This was most likely due to the accomplished professors volunteering their work at the academy, as well as the resources provided by individuals such as the Champion Cynthia Shirona.
Despite Jubilife City being the largest and most populated city in Sinnoh, Champions Academy almost rivaled its size despite being just a training academy for teenagers varying from the ages of 15-18. Champions Academy provided countless numbers of training fields, buildings serving as classrooms, as well as advanced technology used to aid the efforts of professors and staff.
Due to the notorious status of the Academy, it was extremely rare for many students' applications to be accepted. There were more or less around 1,000 slots for students to attend. This number was not only lower than ninety percent of academies around the world, but it also didn't help student chances that Champions Academy was heavily competitive. The Academy received thousands of applications around the region, making their acceptance rate the lowest in the region by FAR.
Which made today all the more special for the newly accepted students of Champions Academy. These students' ages varied, due to many of them either being transfers from other academies, or simply being new to any academy. Two hundred and forty five students stood in a large stadium, which looked to be able to serve several purposes ranging from battles or even a concert due to the massive size.
"Welcome to Champions Academy" A young man spoke from the podium, his voice booming across the stadium. His black hair was combed neatly, as well as being freshly shaved. Despite his clearly expensive black suit, it was apparent that this was not the Headmaster that everyone expected to speak at the opening ceremony.
"My name is Professor Adams, with my main purpose at Champions Academy being that I serve as a battling instructor, aiding the students who have chosen the battle course. Unfortunately, our headmaster is arriving a bit later than expected, due to a small emergency. In the meantime, please allow me to inform you all some information regarding the most notorious Academy in Sinnoh itself. It was…"
Most students listened intently, with all of them dressed in their formal school attires. For boys, this consisted of either dress shorts/formal pants and a collared short. For girls, it was slightly more flexible with a variety of either pants, skirts, or button up shirts. Yet, Miles Miller couldn't help but feel out of place standing in line, while listening to Professor Adams drone on about some random facts regarding the Academy.
Who could blame Miles for feeling out of place, however, considering he was wearing an attire that definitely did not fall under code. Miles wore a simple black shirt that hugged his slightly built figure, as well as casual gray joggers. The seventeen year old stood at around five eleven, with messy medium length black hair. The student had tan skin, light brown eyes and a defined jawline. While Miles was struggling to listen intently to the Professor due to feeling self conscious about how he looked, much of what he was listening to was also information Miles was well aware of when applying to Champions Academy.
"Hey man, I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to be wearing that." A boy standing to the left of Miles whispered to him, waving his arm slightly at his outfit. Miles jumped slightly, startled at first before glancing to the left and sighing in both embarrassment and a slight frustration. The boy stood at around the same height as Miles, with a pale skin complexion and short blonde hair. His blue eyes remained on Miles with slight curiosity. He was an average build, wearing the formal school attire that every other student just HAD to be wearing.
"Thanks, I had no idea judging by literally every single person around me." Miles replied sarcastically, smiling slightly in amusement. The blonde boy laughed at this, clearly sensing the playful sarcasm. In return, he offered a discreet fist bump to Miles while peering at Professor Adams.
"I'm Jace by the way. Jace Turner."
Miles returned the gesture, introducing himself to Jace.
Jace briefly glanced at the podium again before rolling his eyes, clearly bored by the whole introduction. It wasn't even ten seconds later that the blonde haired teenager whispered to Miles once again. "So…. Why aren't you wearing your school uniform?" Jace asked curiously, now slightly turned to him.
"I may or may not have slept in and proceeded to not be able to find the right clothes." Miles confessed, slightly embarrassed at his antics. It was just his luck that he seemed to either lose or misplace his uniform. Due to black haired teen already running late, he didn't have much of a choice other than to rush out of his dorm in the clothes he was wearing. All students had moved into the Academy two days ago, bringing all their belongings into their own assigned dorms. These dorms consisted of either singles, meaning only one person per room, or doubles. Doubles were shared rooms between two roommates. While the majority of students were expected to live with a roommate, aka a double, Miles was able to snatch up a high demand single bedroom dorm.
For the past two days, all Academy students sat in boredom in their room, due to not being able to explore the grounds. It was safe to say that no one really knew each other, with this being the first time students were allowed in a public space and with each other. In all honesty, Miles wasn't even sure of the specific reason they were basically locked up in their rooms to begin with before the official introduction ceremony.
"Damn, definitely seems like something I'd do." Jace responded, shrugging his shoulders in the process. "Glad I've finally met someone here though."
Miles smiled in response, nodding his head and opening his mouth to respond.
"Sa-" Miles was quickly interrupted by a voice to the opposite side of him.
"Excuse me, but can you two keep your voices down? Professors are starting to stare at you guys." A small, blonde haired girl interrupted the two, shifted her head to point out the group of professors. She was right, as Miles and Jace immediately noticed some Academy professors staring at them in an attempt to get them to be quiet and listen to Professor Adams.
Jace merely smirked at this, before raising his hand in an attempt to wave at the group. Seeing this, Miles elbowed the blonde in his side, making him yelp quietly. The kid was funny, Miles had to give him that. Way too laidback for Champions Academy, but this could definitely be someone Miles can become best friends with, he thought.
"Sorry, we'll shut up." Miles told the short girl, who nodded appreciatively and whispered her thanks nervously. The girl had pale skin and wore her blonde hair in a messy bun, with pretty blue eyes that the two boys immediately noticed. However, everyone appeared to tower over the girl due to her short stature. She looked to stand at four feet easily, with more than a few inches separating her from even reaching five feet tall.
The blonde haired girl glanced around her, making sure no one was looking before taking out her phone and turning it on. Before he could turn away, the teenager caught a glance of her background, which he recognized as one of Galar's most attractive destinations. In the picture, a random girl stood next to the blonde, the two of them hugging each other tightly.
"That's Galar right? Nice picture." Miles told her quietly, making the blonde jump in surprise.
'Wow, not creepy at all Miles…' He thought to himself, mentally facepalming himself at his own stupidity. Surprisingly, the girl brightened up immediately at his compliment.
"Thanks! That's me and my girlfriend, Aluca! She's incredible. Aluca is training to be a gym leader in Paldea! Isn't that incredible?!" The blonde girl said passionately, drawing the attention of more than a few people surrounding the trio. Miles raised an eyebrow at her complete one eighty in energy, while Jace seemed just as confused.
"I'm Cherry Kerala. Which course are you guys specializing in here?" Cherry introduced herself, now staring up at the two much taller teenagers in a welcoming manner. Miles just inwardly bruised off the change in attitude, attributing it to her fondness for her girlfriend in the picture.
"Battle course too. I'm Miles."
"What he said. Jace Turner."
Cherry's dark blue eyes glowed at this, illustrating her excitement. "Cool, we're all doing battle courses! We should probably pay attention now, but it's nice to meet you two." The two boys agreed to this, turning their attention back to the podium. It just so happened that Professor Adams seemed to be finished with his speech, now passing off the torch to an older man.
"Now, please give a warm welcome to Headmaster Reynolds." Professor Adams introduced, before stepping away from the podium and shaking hands with the older male.
Headmaster Reynolds appeared to be in his sixties, with a neatly trimmed beard and gray hair. Not much was known about Reynolds, other than the fact that he holds quite a grip of control and power in the Academy. While this may seem obvious due to his clear position, it is also due to the respect he demands from both his peers and students. He was quite the accomplished individual, with approval from many of the elite figures in the Sinnoh Region. The Headmaster of Champions Academy cleared his throat quickly before stepping in front of the microphone.
"Greetings everyone. I apologize for the wait. I'd like to formally welcome you all to Champions Academy." Headmaster Reynolds greeted the crowd, with everyone shushing each other and viewing the podium quietly.
"Arceus, I'm surprised the guy got here. Looks like he could drop dead any second now." Miles told Jace, who muffled his laugh and lowered his head in response. The student in front of Miles definitely didn't appreciate his joke as much, glaring at the teen before returning his attention to the Headmaster. Miles internally winced, before shrugging it off.
"Despite the rigorous demands and skill this academy demands, you all have made it. I'd like to congratulate you all on making it this far. However, the work begins now. Whether you are aspiring to be a gym leader, coordinator, licensed Pokemon doctor, ranger, or even the champion of a region, this is where it all begins. The efforts you put in this academy will play a significant role in what the future holds." Headmaster Reynolds informed the students, his voice never wavering and appearing powerful to all listeners. Despite his old age, nobody could deny the confident voice and stature of the man before them.
Headmaster Reynolds continued his speech for a few more minutes before finally finishing with a few more words.
"You have all been emailed your final class schedules, assuming you have registered online on our official website. I wish you all the best for the start of our official school year tomorrow. And for those that were not aware that we start tomorrow, you know now I hope." Headmaster Reynolds joked, erupting a few laughs from the crowd and some worried glances from students who must have forgotten about tomorrow's start. Reynolds shook the hand of Professor Adams, before quickly exiting the building.
"I actually thought we started next week…" Jace said seriously, staring at his shoelaces on the floor.
"I know I have no right to tell you this because of what I'm wearing, but you're an idiot."
