Within minutes, both Jack and Bobby arrived to assist Sue. Jack brought Bobby, because not only was he also a worried teammate, but he was pretty good at breaking into houses without kicking down the door. As they approached the door, Sue could see that Bobby was on the phone calling Myles; unfortunately, after ringing seven times, the call went to voicemail. Bobby then decided to be annoying and immediately called again.
Jack asked Sue, "Have you seen any movement at all?"
"No," Sue said, " I looked through his window again while waiting for you guys, and nothing has changed since I texted."
Jack went to the half closed living room window to see the environment himself. Sue was right. The lights were on, and the TV was on the sports channel. Looking closer, he couldn't see any shadows, or other things that could hint that someone was home. He then went to Myles' car, and took a peek inside. Maybe Myles was sleeping in there or something, but there was nobody inside. Afterwards, he said to Bobby, "Is he answering?"
"Nope," Bobby answered, "He's not."
Jack exhaled. Something was definitely wrong. He was home, so why wasn't he answering doors, texts and calls? Suddenly, there was a pit growing in Jack's stomach. He hoped that what he speculated would be proven false. He asked, "Bobby, should we call 911?"
Bobby could read Jack's mind. He responded, "Let's look for him first."
Jack said, "Okay…let's get in there."
Using his lock picking skills, Bobby was able to get inside of the house with no problem; however, he hoped that Myles did not have an alarm system installed. "Got it," Bobby said before opening the door. Luckily, an alarm didn't go off; maybe Myles forgot to install one after he first moved in so many years ago, and just forgot about having one set up. The team of three entered.
Bobby was the first to shout, "Myles! Mate! Are you here? Sorry to drop by."
Jack said after, "We're just checking up on you."
When there was no reply, Jack and Bobby quickly went to every room on the first floor to look for their friend, but Myles was nowhere in sight. The more they searched and couldn't find him, the more his thoughts turned morbid. He really hoped Myles didn't get to the point where he lost all hope.
Jack exclaimed again, "Myles?!" But no answer.
Sue then followed Jack and Bobby into the house as she watched them call for their teammate. He obviously wasn't around. Jack then turned to Bobby, "Bobby, go check Myles' backyard. If he's not there, then go into his garage and look for him there. Sue and I will check upstairs, and if we cannot find him, we'll start searching closets."
Bobby lightly gasped. "You're not saying…"
Jack said, agitated, "I don't know what I'm saying Bobby, but let's just find him! Come, Sue."
As Sue and Jack climbed his stairs, Sue asked, "What do you mean check closets?"
Either he answered her and she didn't see it, or Jack ignored her. She couldn't tell. Regardless of what he meant, the couple searched for Myles on the top floor in every nook and cranny, but didn't find him. Then, they met Bobby back in the kitchen, and he reported, "He's not in the garage or in the backyard. I checked everywhere."
"We checked everywhere too," Jack said, "Obviously, Myles isn't here."
Bobby wondered, "Do you reckon he got kidnapped or something?"
Jack shrugged, "Maybe he wandered off and is lost in the city again? If that's the case, he can't find his way home, and we have to go fetch him."
Sue scanned the kitchen. She started noticing things right away. "Jack."
"Yeah?"
Myles' phone is still here, and on the charger. His car keys are still here too. I don't see his house keys though."
Bobby took a look himself. "Now that you mention it, I don't see his coat either. I'm speculating that he wandered off."
Jack shook his head. "Alright, so we've got an agent wandering the city alone and confused. And he's been like that since this afternoon. Now, where would he go? Sue, where have you found him before?"
Sue started listing off locations. "I've found him at the office, outside of his favorite restaurant, and a few blocks away from Anne's place."
"Okay," Jack said, "He likes to go to familiar places, so let's start there."
Sue then had an idea. "Why don't we talk to some of Myles' neighbors first. Maybe they know which direction he went?"
Jack and Bobby looked at each other. Bobby said, "I think that's a good idea."
While Jack and Bobby were talking to some of Myles' nicer neighbors, Sue drew the short straw and was at Webbers' front doorstep. She didn't know the man personally, but it was a fact that he and Myles never got along. Myles once said that if killing were suddenly legal, Webber would be the first person he'd shoot. That being said, if he could go toe to toe with Myles, then she assumed the man was also a very observant person. He might be her best bet as to knowing where Myles currently was. After ringing the doorbell a couple of times, the door swung open, and a man with a booming voice answered, "Yes? What can I do for you?"
"Hello, I'm Sue Thomas. And this is Levi. I've seen you around, but I don't think we've formally met."
Webber tilted his head in confusion. "Who're you?"
"I'm Myles Leland's friend."
"Oh, yeah…I've seen you around. Are you his girlfriend?"
"What?"
"He's cheating on you, you know."
"I'm sorry?"
"With a man." He was about to shut the door, when Sue said:
"I don't care what he does with his love life. I'm not his girlfriend. I'm just his friend who has a question."
Webber raised a brow. "Did Leland put you up to something?"
Sue shook her head, "No, um, I was wondering if you saw Myles leave his house today? He's missing, and I'm looking for him. My friends and I are worried about him and his health."
"Well…I saw Leland leave for coffee this morning. Then, he came home. I didn't see him after that; I might not like him, but I don't keep tabs on him twenty four hours a day."
"I know," Sue said.
"What does he say about me?"
Sue ignored that question; instead, she asked, "How did Myles look when he left his house?"
Webber thought for a moment. "Clean cut. Tired. Angry. But that's usual."
Sue wasn't getting anywhere. She didn't want to mention Myles' condition, but she needed a better answer from the naughty neighbor "Sir, I work with Myles. He was put on forced vacation for…medical reasons. He's not feeling well, and his illness sometimes causes him to leave the house and wander off somewhere without his car. You saw him in the morning. Did you see him leave his house this afternoon?"
"No," Webber said quite bluntly.
"Oh," Sue said with a sullen face. She was disappointed by that answer, and now she really was worried for her friend. Myles could be dead in a ditch somewhere. "Thank you, sir." But the before she could leave Webber stated:
"But I have a security camera that keeps a keen eye on my front doorstep. The camera will also show Leland's driveway. You won't see his front door, but you'll definitely know if he's left the house."
Sue smiled. With a glimmer of hope in her grasp, she asked, "Can I take a look at the video? My friends are here also, and they'll want to see it too."
Inside Webbers' living room, Jack, Bobby and Sue were on the couch watching security recordings of Webbers' front door. In the shot, Myles' driveway was also in clear view. Webber was beside them in a separate chair with his remote in hand. They started the recording at 7:00pm the previous night. They wanted to see what Myles' state of mind was after they had arrested Devin and killed his sister.
At around 7:20pm, Myles had parked in his driveway. He got out of the car with his jacket and briefcase in hand. After closing the car door, he paced around his driveway for ten minutes. Sue bit her lip; this was going to be hard to watch. When Myles finally came to his senses, he went inside of his house.
At 8:10pm, when the sun was starting to set, Myles went back outside in a light jacket and denim. He was also wearing work gloves, and carried a garden hose. He went straight to his wilted garden, and started watering. Unfortunately, one of his normality's was interrupted by what looked like a flashback. Sue could tell, because after having one, Myles would briefly shake his head before trying to pull out of his dissociation with the world. Then, he placed the working hose in the bush, and sat on the edge of the brick flower bed, holding his head in his hands. He was in that position for another ten minutes before throwing something, grabbing his gardening stuff, and heading back inside the house where he stayed for the remainder of the night.
Bobby shook his head. He said, "I should have taken him to my place last night and watched him."
Jack responded, "Don't worry about it, Bobby. Now that we have an idea of what he was like last night, we can see what he did today."
At 7:35am, they all watched Webber, sweeping. Before long, they spotted Myles walking past his driveway all bundled up for the chilly autumn air. Their friend looked tired; he probably didn't sleep at all. He still walked like Myles though. Then, an hour and a half later, Myles returned to his place with a cup of coffee in his hand.
Sue mentioned, "Between the time he left and came back is when I texted him about bringing him lunch, and he replied to me. After that, I couldn't get a hold of him for the rest of the day."
Jack acknowledged Sue's words. After watching Myles go back inside his house, they all held their breath. If Myles did not leave his house by the time Sue arrived, he was still somewhere in there. Nothing peculiar happened until they observed a black SUV drive past his house at 1:55pm. They didn't think anything of it, until the same SUV returned and parked onto his driveway. Once it parked, an unfamiliar woman got out of the passenger's side and waved. She then disappeared back into the car, and after two minutes, Myles appeared with a suitcase in hand, and entered the backseat of the vehicle. Then, the SUV left. After, they fast forwarded the tape until they saw Sue arrive at Myles' residence.
Bobby shook his head at Myles' actions; what an asshole. On the other hand, Jack felt a little bit of empathy for the man. Then, Jack heard Sue give a light hiccup. Jack quickly turned to her, and saw that his fiancé was quietly weeping. Jack did his best to console her. "Hey, what's wrong?"
"He left," Sue started, "Without telling anyone. Aren't we all family?"
Jack nodded. "Yeah, it was a crappy thing to do."
"Was he that unhappy?" She wiped her eyes. "For the last six years, I worked so hard to try to get him better…and look…it was all for nothing."
Jack said, "Sue, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."
Sue replied, "Why didn't he tell me?"
"Myles will be Myles," Jack said, "It doesn't matter how well you get along with him. He's going to keep his feelings to himself."
Sue scoffed. "I guess we will see him in two weeks, right?"
Bobby interjected, "Sue, you did nothing wrong. You're a very good friend to Myles, and believe me, he does care about you. He cares about everyone in his own way. It's just…right now, he's not in the right state of mind. He's tired, confused, and angry at himself. Knowing him, he probably didn't tell you, because he thought you'd be mad at him for what he did to Diana."
Sue shouted, "I don't care about Diana anymore! She was a little girl who made a bad decision, and I knew her for…a few days. Like you guys, I've known Myles for years, and I'm mad because I put so much work into helping him, and this is how he repays me."
Jack responded, "Well, we've got to find out where he is. I don't know who he went with. I know all of his family members, and I know who his side friends are, but…I don't know who those people in that SUV were."
Bobby asked, "I wonder if Myles even knew who they were?"
Jack said, "Alright, let's start finding Myles by calling his friends and family. I'll grab his phone, and we will get Tara to break into it at work." He said to Sue, "And then when we find him, you have my permission to kill him."
Sue lightly chuckled, "I might just take you up on that offer."
