Max types furiously on his computer. His eyes was on the screen, keeping tab of the every line of characters he typed.
One of his hands stops typing and instead was grabbing the air beside him. Markov appears and hands him a juice box. The Holder of the Horse Miraculous sips juice as he continues typing.
After a few more minutes, he finally stops typing. After reviewing his work 3 times, he puts his detachable keyboard away to give space to a bunch of metal pieces and wires.
Kaalki was already holding onto a screwdriver before Max could even ask (or even needs to ask). She lets go of the tool once Max' hand reaches out for it.
Seconds later, she flies away only to return with tweezers in her arms which Max accepts. Markov appears beside her, holding a soldering iron in his claw.
Before Max can start soldering, a full-face soldering mask was placed over his face. A similar mask was levitated before Markov who held it in place with his claw.
As Max solders, Markov turns to his companion inside the mask. His companion... who, he could not see.
He remembers the day Max introduced him to a new friend, who he claimed will be living with them from now on, but must be kept a secret from his Mom. Due to the "friend's" lack of visual presence during the introduction, Markov could only hypothesize, base on his research, that his creator/best friend has manifested an imaginary friend, one who is nonexistent, except in the eyes of the one who imagined it.
And base on his research: Max is too old for an imaginary friend.
He suddenly notices things in Max' room moving on their own whenever he's not around; Papers that were scattered were gathered and stacked up neatly... His tools would float briefly in the air until they are wiped clean by a piece of cloth... Max' bran muffin, which he only took a few bites of, where seemingly eaten by the air, leaving only its wrapper which was crumpled then moved until it dropped into the waste basket... etc.
These strange occurrences seem to make Markov reconsider the fact that maybe Max' new "imaginary" friend may not be "imaginary" as he hypothesized at all. No matter how unscientific it seems, or sounds.
Tapping.
He could feel someone slightly tapping him on his head.
It wasn't just tapping. Someone was communicating with him using Morse Code.
Thanks to the Morse Code program Max installed in him, it was easy for Markov to translate:
N... I... C... E... J... O... B...
"Nice Job."
Markov "smiles" in his own robotic way, "Thank you Max."
Max stops and takes off his mask to face his robot friend, "Huh?"
Markov carefully analyzed Max face and realized he looks confused. Plus he was still working before he was interrupted, so both his hands were too occupied to do Morse Code.
So who-?
More tapping... He analyzes every sequence of taps.
Max was confused when Markov called out to him to thank him. His robot friend looks equally confused as he does.
Kaalki was floating beside Markov, making Max pity the poor robot; Kwamis cannot be recorded on cameras. When Max took a picture of Kaalki eating an apple on his phone, the saved photo only showed the "floating" apple. Kaalki was not shown, making it look like an invisible ghost was eating the apple.
Oh that would be a great idea for a Halloween Haunted House.
And unfortunately for Markov, who was built with a high optic camera, he couldn't see or hear his new Kwami roommate.
Kaalki suddenly taps Markov's head with her hoof-like arms. She taps him multiple times, sometimes stopping for a while before tapping again.
"Ka-al-ki...?" Markov asks in surprise.
Max swore Kaalki's victory cheer sounded like a whinny. She makes a loop in the sky before tapping Markov once again.
"It's nice to finally meet you too." Markov sounds much happier than when he spoke Kaalki's name. Kaalki taps him again, "Oh no. I understand. It's all in your species."
Max completely forgot his project. He was too engrossed at the long- awaited conversation between his robot best friend and his Kwami partner, even if it was in Morse Code.
He wanted the two of them to get along, so that their teamwork and trust with each other will be very useful in future French Miraculous Team Missions.
Max planned to create a program that would allow Markov to see and hear Kaalki, but Ladybug and Chat Noir turned down that idea; If he shares such technology with the world, or if that technology was found out, it would reveal the heroes' civilian identities and put them, and their families, in danger.
Seeing that logic reasonable, he decides to cancel that idea.
And he's glad he did. Kaalki actually found a way to communicate with Markov.
Question is... Where did she learn Morse Code?
"Kaalki?" Max takes off his mask as he turns to his Kwami, "Where did you learn Morse Code?"
Max, for one, knows she didn't learn it from himself. He just started to learn Morse Code, and still hasn't mastered the code for "A".
Kaalki stops tapping and turns to her Holder, "One of my previous Holders was a soldier at war. Too save your country... to save lives... communications must be discrete."
Max nods. People can unknowingly reveal their secrets and/or weaknesses to dangerous people just by messaging their friends.
"Base on the effective communication between you and Markov, it is clear you're an expert at this." Max states.
Kaalki giggles (which also sounds like a whinny), "Thank you. It was quite a thrilling way to communicate. I HAD to learn it. If my memory still hasn't failed me, I would say I was also sleep-coding for 5 days straight."
"Wow." Max sound impressed, "You really enjoyed it that much?"
"Of course." Kaalki taps Markov again, "You learn a lot of wonderful things with the people your Miraculous were entrusted with. Having a Holder is so much fun! That's why I HAD to be friends with this WONDERFUL creation of yours."
"That's me!" Markov happily emotes after translating Kaalki's tapping.
"To think technology has evolved this far..." Kaalki turns to Max, "And to have built a friend like this at such a young age...!"
"Best work. So far." Max admits humbly, "I still have a long way to go until I can be labelled a 'genius inventor'."
"That's the best part: New exciting discoveries for you to find along the way!" Kaalki whinnies, her tapping was starting to look like a tap dance.
Max chuckles at his little partner's antics. Before the heroes appeared in Paris, the only magic he ever believed was the kind performed by stage magicians, and clowns. Magic like that always have logical scientific explanations.
Now here he is, talking to a magical being lost in history. A magical being, despite being born with the ability to teleport historical monuments to the moon, shows exuberant interest to innovations made by mere mortals.
In all his life, he only relied on science to make everything understandable and clear to him. Being involved in many Akuma Attacks, and entrusted with magical glasses that transforms him into a superhero made him realize that there are still a lot in the world he doesn't know.
The path to new discoveries can be scary and dangerous.
But if he keeps moving forward, and take on any challenge that comes his way, he will be rewarded with new knowledge that will help him and humanity in the near future.
"Hey Guys?" He calls his two little friends, who turn to face him. He grabs his screwdriver and soldering iron, tapping the former against the latter.
After two minutes of tapping later, both Kaalki and Markov were wide-eyed, and wide-mouthed.
"You... should keep practicing. Before you can have a nice, lovely communication. With your Mother." Markov, advises.
Max couldn't agree more.
He really needs more practice on his Morse Code.
