Headmistress Kirke's plans to build more inter house unity and inter house friendships was showing early signs of being highly successful, but the strongest of all inter house friendships remained the one between James and Megan.
As it so happened, James and Megan had Potions first class on Tuesday. Because Gryffindors and Slytherins shared Potions class in James's and Megan's year, and because James was the only Gryffindor in the year while Megan was the only Slytherin of the year to be taking N.E.W.T. level Potions, they were the only two students in the class.
So, when Professor Brew was late on this morning, Megan took advantage of the opportunity to give James an update on her future.
"Hey, James, guess what?!" piped up Megan excitedly.
"What?" replied James eagerly.
"I now know what I'm going to be doing with my life post Hogwarts graduation: I'm going to be a businesswoman."
"What are be opening up then?" James asked Megan curiously.
"I'm going to start up a wizarding children's hospital, " said Megan proudly, "This hospital will be specifically for the care and treatment of children ages fifteen and under. St. Mungo's is a fantastic hospital, but I feel there should a wizarding hospital that is specifically for children."
"Megan, that is wonderful idea!" said James admiringly, "It will also take a little bit of the patient burden off St. Mungo's as well. But where did you get the idea of opening a wizarding children's hospital? "
"I was inspired by your sister, Lily, " Megan informed James brightly, "I saw what she was doing with Worthy Wands and how that work was helping young witches and wizards and a light bulb went on in my head that I wanted to do something to help young witches and wizards."
"That's awesome, " piped up James as pride in both Lily and Megan engulfed him, "But how is your hospital going to help children specifically?"
"Most importantly, " said Megan seriously, "I'm going to hire a team of Healers that are specifically knowledge about and trained in children's health and care. These Healers will experts on things such as the bodies of wizarding children, how the way magical diseases and injuries affect children specifically, the diseases that only affect children, and how children in particular respond to various medicines and treatments.'
"That's fantastic, Megan," said James approvingly, "Children who are sick and injured really receive specialized children's care."
"This is true," agreed Megan a nanosecond later, "Another thing is that the atmosphere at my wizarding children's hospital is going to be less serious than that of St. Mungo's Yes, a hospital is one of the places you'd least want to have to be at, especially as a child. However, it is my view that maintaining a more colorful and playful atmosphere will actually a good coping device for young witches and wizards going through tough times. We will provide stuffed animals such as hippogriffs and kneazles for the toddler/preschool/kindergarten crowd. For all our patients, we will provide things such as toy cars, puzzles, yo-yo's etc. Most importantly, we will keep lots of child friendly books and lots of MP# players with music and/or audiobooks on hand. For the sickest of our patients who can't get out of bed or do much, they can at least pass the time waiting for treatment by reading or listening to music or audiobooks The sickest may not want to proactivity read but having audiobooks read to me them may help them pass the time with less boredom and relax a bit."
"I like what I'm hearing," said James warmly.
"The walls of my hospital will by default be painted in bright and vivid colors such as yellow, orange, hot pink, silver, gold, lime green, spring green, sky blue, and white to lift the spirts of the struggling children. Each child who is admitted to my hospital as a patient will be allowed to choose a room of whichever color he or she wants. He or she will be informed of the default colors and if he or she wants a room with one of those colors we take him or her there. If a child's preferred room color is not available because all rooms of that color are taken or the child's preferred color isn't a default color, Color Change Charms can be used to create such a room. So, if an eight year boy who is a diehard Minnesota Vikings fan and wanted a purple room, a Color Change Charm would be performed on a room to create a purple room, " explained Megan.
"Trying to make the patients feel as welcomed and as at home as possible given the circumstances,' observed James.
"Exactly, " said Megan in a businesslike voice, "That also applies to brightness and temperature. If a patient is really sensitive to light, we'll make him or her a raker room. If a child really likes warm weather, we'll see to it that he or she gets a warm room, and so forth."
"Have you set a visitor policy for your hospital?" inquired James.
"It's flexible, " said Megan calmly, "But my initial inclination is to limit visitors to parents and siblings to keep the visitor count under control. I'm open to changing that policy I receive input that it's not for the best. That's about it."
"My friend Ainsley Cochlain, inspired by her mom being a Healer, is currently attending The Ultimate University of Wizarding Healing to train to become a Healer herself, which I admire," said James radiantly, "Opening a wizarding children's hospital, as you are doing, is another great way of helping out sick and injured witches and wizards and in this suffering young witches and wizards. For all the bad in the world, there are still some wonderful people out there."
"Your sister is one of them and you should be extremely proud of her," said Megan glowingly.
"Yes," agreed James heartily, "If caring about people were an Olympic event, Lily Luna Potter would have more gold medals than Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt combined,"
Megan smiled.
Next nanosecond, Professor Brew finally arrived for class, forcing James and Megan to end their conversation about Megan's wizarding children's hospital.
But they gave each other one last smile.
James couldn't be prouder of Megan or of Lily for inspiring her.
There truly were good hearted people in the world.
