Day 15: Seismitoad

(BGM: N's Castle Bridge from Black & White)

(This segment begins with me entering my home, covered in cuts and bruises as Lyra comes to greet me at the door)

Lyra: What the hell happened to you?

Me: Turns out a lot of Pokemon fans don't take kindly to those who favor Blaziken over Swampert like I do.

Lyra: This is the internet, my guy, did you really think people would be that understanding?

Me: Kind of.

Lyra: Well consider this your wake-up call. So, how are you going to get back in the fanbase's good graces?

Me: Well, one of the reason's Swampert is so loved is because of its awesome Water-Ground typing. So, I figured if I talk about another Water-Ground type then the heat might die down.

Lyra: Uh, I don't think-

Me: Too late! I've already decided!

Lyra: (Sighs) Well, which Water-Ground Pokemon are you going to talk about today? Quagsire? Gastrodon?

Me: (Smirks) Even better. Play the cry!

(Insert Seismitoad cry here)

(BGM: Icirrus City from Black and White)

Yup, I like Seismitoad as a Water-Ground type Pokemon more than I do Swampert. Do you people hate me yet?

Now I know what we're all thinking. What is it about Seismitoad that I personally like more than Swampert, who is technically the better Water-Ground Pokemon. Hell, Seismitoad doesn't even have a Mega Evolution.

Well, like with these other entries, let's start with Seismitoad's design.

I don't know what it is but there's something very pleasing about Seismitoad's design. It has a nice shade of dark blue for its overall skin color, which goes well with the black and lighter blue colors of the bumps on his body. And to top it all off, his standout feature are those red eyes attached to his, admittedly derpy face. I don't know, there's something really funny about Seismitoad's face.

Me: Wait a minute, a silly face with red eyes. Lyra, are you thinking what I'm thinking about Seismitoad right now?

Lyra: He 420 blazed it?

Me: He 420 blazed it.

Lyra: And we're reusing jokes yet again…This year's marathon is a shitshow.

Seismitoad also has some pretty banger abilities. First, there's Swift Swim, which boosts his speed stat in the rain; a very useful ability.

Lyra: You do know Swampert has Swift Swim too right?

Me: Yeah, if he Mega Evolves. Seismitoad could potentially have Swift Swim out of the gate.

Lyra: Fair point.

Seismitoad's hidden ability also makes good use of rainy weather as its Water Absorb, meaning that it can not only gain health back from rainy weather and opposing water moves, but also gets an immunity to Water-type moves…along with Electric-type moves given its part ground!

As for its second natural ability, we have Poison Touch, which has the potential of poisoning Pokemon if it makes contact with physical moves like Drain Punch, which it can learn naturally. All three of these abilities are great and perfect for a Pokemon like Seismitoad to have.

HP and Physical Attack are Seismitoad's better stats, with the other stats being pretty decent all things considered. His Special Attack isn't that bad either, and he gets a lot of moves to play with in that regard with some examples being Echoed Voice, Surf, Hydro Pump, Muddy Water, Hydro Pump, Sludge Bomb, and Sludge Wave.

But if you really want to take advantage of Seismitoad's Physical Attack stat, it can learn the aforementioned Drain Punch, Dig, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Brick Break, Ice Punch, Poison Jab, Stomping Tantrum, and in Generation 8 it can even learn Power Whip! I don't know how Seismitoad whips something, and frankly I don't think I want to know.

Other useful moves that are worth looking into for Seismitoad would be Toxic to badly poison opponents and Aqua Ring to slowly gain health back after each turn, which can potentially be helpful if it has its hidden ability of Water Absorb.

Overall, Seismitoad is one of the more underrated Pokemon out there. Is it as strong as Swampert, not especially, but if you're looking for a solid Water-Ground type Pokemon that isn't Swampert, I can think of no better option than Seismitoad.

Me: There, that should hopefully cause some of this controversy to die down.

(Suddenly, a rock gets tossed through my window as an angry mob is heard raging outside)

Lyra: I don't think it worked.

Me: (Gives Lyra a death glare)

Lyra: I'll get the panic room ready!

(Me and Lyra leave to hide as the mob continues to rage outside)
