Day 25: Sirfetch'd

(BGM: Route 6 from Sword & Shield)

Oh, Farfetch'd. Farfetch'd, Farfetch'd, Farfetch'd. You really are one of, if not, the worst Pokemon Generation 1 had to offer.

Sure, you may have a pretty good Physical Attack stat. Sure, your may learn some pretty good moves. And sure, your abilities can be useful. But, your other stats are horrible, a good Rock/Electric/Ice move will clip your wings with no issues, other Flying types learn the moves you do and put them to so much better use, and perhaps worst of all you don't evolve.

While I wouldn't say Farfetch'd is the worst Pokemon, period, it's definitely one of the worst and definitely the worst of the original 151.

For seven generations, it looked like there was no saving this poor bastard, and he be doomed to PC Box Purgatory for the rest of his days. But then, in 2019 when the Galar Region was discovered, so was a new regional variant of Farfetch'd and with it, a brand new evolution…

Sirfetch'd!

(Insert Sirfetch'd cry here)

(BGM: Battle! Gym Leader from Sword & Shield)

Okay, Game Freak, I have to give you guys a round of applause. You actually took one of the worst Pokemon in existence and made him one of the most wanted Pokemon in Generation 8, and we have the new evolution of Sirfetch'd to thank for that.

Right off the bat, I want to talk about the one beef I have with this thing, and that's how you evolve it. To get Sirfetch'd you need to take a Galarian Farfetch'd and have him get three critical hits…in one battle!

Sure there's an easy way to do this; have your Galarian Farfetch'd hold onto a Leek, which boosts the chance of a critical hit and can be found on other Galarian Farfetch'ds, and have him fight a trainer with at least three Pokemon, of which there's one in the first Galar Mine. Boom! Instant Sirfetch'd.

But that's not the point, the point is the way to get Sirfetch'd is ridiculous. Whatever happened to using evolutionary stones or leveling up in a certain place…or leveling up in general?! I thought that was okay.

But once you do get Sirfetch'd, you're gifted with one of the best physical attackers in the game, and with a pretty decent physical defense stat to boot too. And given that Sirfetch'd is a Fighting-type rather than a Normal-Flying type, that means Sirfetch'd is weak to far less common types like Fairy, Flying, and Psychic.

And for at least two of those types he has a pretty counter for; He can learn Steel Wing for Fairy types, and he can learn Brutal Swing, Night Slash, and Knock Off for Psychic types.

Other moves that'll be worth your time would be Leaf Blade, First Impression, Brick Break, Brave Bird, Superpower, Poison Jab, and the coups de grace of them all, Meteor Assault, Sirfetch'd's signature move which is basically a Fighting-type Giga Impact, but with 100 accuracy instead of 90!

With moves like that with a 135 Attack Stat, Sirfetch'd clearly isn't afraid to take that long leek of his and shove it up his opponent's rectal cavity before bashing them in the face with his leek shield Captain America style!

Lyra: Oh, can he really do that?!

Me: No, it's a kid friendly game series, but it'd be pretty cool though!

Lyra: (Disappointed) Aw, man.

Add in abilities like Steadfast, which raises Sirfetch'd's speed when he flinches, and his hidden ability Scrappy, which allows Sirfetch'd to hit Ghost types, and we pretty much have the evolution that Farfetch'd needed!

Shame it only took eight generations and a regional variant for Farfetch'd to feel validated though. Maybe someday Kantonian Farfetch'd will get an evolution that's just as good, if not better than Sirfetch'd.

Maybe Genertion 10?

Or Legends Z-A?

Pretty please?
