The camera panned over to a view over the island, before lowering down until the dock was in view. Chris was standing on it, that huge smile on his face. "Last time, on Total Drama Island, the campers were introduced to each other, and shown to their quarters, where some of the campers got along quite well." It cut to show the Killer's Bass side for the guys. "While others… immediately got to arguing." Cue the girl side for the Killer Bass. Honestly, they were polar opposites. "As for the other team, they mostly got along with each other, save for a few people." It cut to Catrina ignoring everyone, probably having a few people against her. "Then, the campers had a taste of their first meal here at camp. That's when they also got to meet Chef." It cut to a cleaver dropping right next to David, who had a panicked look in his eyes. "And lastly, we introduced them to their first challenge of the day." It showed off the start of the obstacle course. "This time, the campers will be forced to run through a deadly obstacle course designed by me, tested by our late interns. And by the end of tonight, the losing team will be forced to vote off a camper. Who will be the first person voted off Total Drama, which team will reign supreme? Find out right here, right now, on Total! Drama! Island!" And the camera cut away.
Obstacle Course
Chris was standing in front of the twenty campers, hands behind his back. "How this will work is quite simple. There are eleven segments to this obstacle course. You will decide an order as a team without knowing any of the segme-"
"We can see the first one from here." Historia pointed out.
Chris looked back, and sure enough, the first segment was in full view. It looked like a typical army obstacle course to start with tires and walls to climb. "But that's just the first segment. The thing stretches the entire island, eventually ending up at the top of the mountain at the far back end of the island." He looked at everyone, before noticing that two campers were missing. Fortunately that wasn't his problem! They could sort that out. "You can all discuss with your teammates now."
Screaming Gophers
The first one to speak up was Ashton. "Alright, I've been in many races before, so I think I should take charge here."
Jack crossed his arms. "That sounds like a poor idea. Can we have someone else do the thinking?"
"Hey!" The racer called out. "My wisdom is valuable." He clenched his fist before letting out a battle cry. "Normally you would save the best for last, but instead. I'm thinking we should send our best men out first."
"What?" Marisa blurted out with a tone drenched in worry. "What if the last parts of the obstacle course are the hardest. We can already see what this one is. This seems pretty doable for most of us."
Ashton scratched his head, annoyed that they clearly weren't getting it. "But if we have our best people go first, we'll get a commanding lead. They're missing two people right now, so they'll have no choice but to panic, and that panic will cause them to mess up more."
Talia let out an irritated sigh. "I'll go first."
"Huh?" Jared seemed confused. "But this type of obstacle is more my speed. Shouldn't I do it instead? Besides, you'd get your clothes dirty."
The rude girl raised an eyebrow. "You think I care about how nice my clothes look?"
"N-no! Of course not. I didn't think that at all!" The cadet took a step back.
Confessional: Arianna
She had been sitting there for a while, having not said anything. She just had a smile on her face, looking off to the side. Then, she finally acknowledged the camera. "First time using something like this. Expect me to make several visits here." She crossed her legs and leaned forward a bit. She rested her head on her hand, which was being prompted up by her leg. "Honestly I can already see some easy targets to vote off if we were to lose. Not that I want that." She leaned back up. "But if we were to, they'd have my vote."
"Well, I agree with Marisa." The popular girl smiled before looking over at her. "We should definitely save our most athletic people for last."
"Alright, alright." Ashton ran his hand through his hair. "Then after Talia, it's Eleanor, right?" He placed a hand on his hip.
She looked around before shaking her head. "No, I think I should be around the middle."
Well, nobody was agreeing with what he was saying, so why even bother. "Alright, then you guys figure it out."
Robin stepped forward, with the potential to save every- "I'll go eighth." And then slowly walked back. Thanks.
"Well…" Jared thought for a moment. "I think the people who should go last are myself, Ashton, and maybe…" He looked around the group of people, but no one appeared very sporty.
"Me!" Catrina called out to herself, placing a hand on the skull for her shirt. "I might not look like it, but I can kick ass." She started fighting the air.
"I don't think kicking ass is required…" Jack pointed out. "But if that's done, we have the last four people figured out."
"I can volunteer myself second." Arianna offered herself up. "If that's fine with everyone else."
Marisa thought for a moment before stepping back. "I've got it. The order we'll do is Talia, Arianna, Xi, Jack, myself, Cameron, Eleanor, Robin, Catrina, Jared, and then Ashton."
Ashton considered this for a moment before a huge smile appeared on his face. "Saving the best for last, I get it!"
Confessional: Marisa
She was writing down things into her notebook. "I figured that order had the lowest chance to be denied by anyone. Don't need everyone arguing moments before we're forced to run."
"Then it's settled." Jared moved away from the group. "I wish everyone luck out there." He brought his hand to his chin. "We have a decent amount of active people, so I doubt we'll lose this challenge."
Killer Bass
Meanwhile, with a less coordinated team…
"Where are they?" Josef crossed his arms. "They should have been back by now, this is ridiculous!"
"Relax…" Jeremy raised his hands in front of him, in an effort to calm him down. "I'm sure they'll be back any moment now."
"It's already been ten minutes." Historia pointed out, equally as unamused.
"Then shouldn't we just try and figure out an order instead?" Matthew suggested. "Just put them last or something."
Tapping his cane impatiently as he weighed his options, he came to a conclusion. "Alright, then first up." He pointed his cane at Historia. "You."
"What." She glanced over at the muddy area. "I'm not doing that."
"Too bad. Order has been decided." The wannabe host moved onto the next person. "Then it will be Jenna." Each time he said someone, he pointed his cane at them. "Bella, Matthew, Christoph-" When he pointed over to the boy, he was on the ground, drawing something. "What… what are you doing?"
The boy quickly got up, turning his paper around. "This is what I came up with." It was a drawing of all eleven of them. From left to right, it was Historia, Jenna, Enima, Matthew, Bella, Christopher, Mindy, Nila, Jeremy, Josef, and lastly, David.
"Where did he get the pen and paper…?" Jenna raised an eyebrow.
Enima shrugged. "Best not to worry about it."
Josef, on the other hand, had different concerns with his order. "We can't do that when the two of them aren't even back yet. They have to go last." Besides, there were several other questionable things in that order. Like why put Bella so far? He eyed the girl, but didn't bring up the issue verbally.
"Well…" Jeremy hummed in thought. "Don't you think it works better this way?" A smile slowly appeared on his face. "If they don't make it, doesn't that just give us a reason to vote them off?"
The area fell silent, before a small laugh could be heard. "Then I say it's fully worth it." It was from David. "That's two people we can vote off if we ever lose, don't you think?"
Confessional: David
He was leaning against the wall, legs against the wall. "Let's be real here. This only benefits me. If the two of them don't show up, not only is that an easy elimination, I don't even have to do anything." He sat up straight, adjusting himself on the seat. "The less of a target I put on my back, the better." He tilted his head to the side. "Thank you Christopher."
Josef's mind raced with various thoughts, and it was hard to figure out what he was thinking. That was until he slammed his cane onto the ground. "Very well. We shall go with his idea." As much as he wanted to win. An easy elimination was something he couldn't turn back on. He looked around the group. "Anyone have anything to say about this?"
"I personally think it's stupid." Jenna spoke up. "If we lose, it's going to be your fault for agreeing with something like that."
"Can you switch her and me?" Historia placed a hand on her hip.
"Deal."
"W- Huh?" The arrogant chemist looked around frantically. "I'm not going to be able to do that first part.
Enima couldn't help but grin at the statement. "Sucks to suck." Her attention turned over towards Chris. "Now let's get ready."
Looking around nervously, Bella tried to see if she could see the two missing teammates in the distance. "Where are you…?"
"I'm sure they're fine." Christopher reassured her. "Now let's get the challenge started."
Killer Bass (Girls)
Nila popped her head into the cabin, looking around. "Mindy? Are you here?" She walked further into the room, looking around. But it's as if nobody had been here in a bit. "I could have sworn we left her here…" Then she would just have to look somewhere else…
On the way out, however. She noticed something. "Hmm?" She turned towards the bed that she had claimed, noticing the bag. "Oh, I never put that away. I thought I stashed it under the bed." She quickly moved it under there. After standing back up, she cupped her hands around her mouth. "Mindy!"
There was no response.
"Ugh… maybe she was hungry after all, and got herself some food?" That must be it.
Obstacle Course (Section 1)
The two campers that were picked to be first were currently standing at the start line. One annoyed Jenna, and one Talia (She was also annoyed, but not because of the challenge).
Chris looked at the two girls. "Alright, when I call the signal, the two of you will start the course. To start the next course, you must tag your teammate. Without that, it will be considered a false start, and they will be forced to restart their section."
"Restart? Wouldn't you just tell us as soon as it happens if there's a false start?" Jenna pointed out.
No response from the host. Just a big smile.
Talia shook her head. "Don't even bother with him." She began stretching her legs a bit. "Get ready to lose badly." She eyed the arrogant chemist. "You don't exactly seem fit."
Wait, they chose someone fit for their first segment. "What, just because you're athletic you think it matters." She crossed her arms. "We just saved our athletic people for last."
Is that how it was? "So did we." A rare smile formed on the rude girl's face. "Good luck out there." Her words were empty.
"On your marks…" Chris had pulled out a revolver, aiming it at the ground. "Get set." He lifted up the pistol in the air. "Go!" And then he fired it.
Talia was the faster of the two to react, so she was the first one to cross the starting line.
Chris watched the two of them running off, before being distracted by a noise. When he turned his head over to the source, he saw the official Total Drama Blimp™ slowly lowering itself into the ocean. He took a look at the revolver in his hand before slowly placing it on the ground. Then, he slid it away from him. "I'll blame it on Chef." He smiled at the camera.
Back with the obstacle course, Talia was the first to reach the tires. She manoeuvred her feet through them with relative ease, only pausing for a moment when she almost tripped over herself. "Talk about easy…" She mumbled out.
On the other hand, Jenna wasn't doing great. She was fine with the first tire, but school never really trained her for a second tire. She laid there, face in the mud.
Confessional: Jenna
The mud was still covering her face, but she had removed her glasses, so that part was clear. "This is so humiliating. Historia should have been the one to do this, not me. I'd like to think I was at least more active than her."
Getting herself up, she had to blindly move her way through the tires as mud coated her glasses. "Dammit…" She called out as she tripped again. "Is the other one at least failing."
"No!" The loud voice of Chris came from a megaphone. He was standing right next to her. "Now hurry up!"
"Ugh…" The arrogant chemist quickly got up. Once she had cleared the tires, she began to clean out her glasses. "Come on…"
Talia had long since passed that part, and was now attempting to climb a wall with a rope. She struggled a bit, since her upper strength wasn't as great as her legs, but little by little, she managed to pull herself up. Once at the top, she turned to look down at Jenna. "Still following behind. I'll tell your teammate that they shouldn't even bother worrying about the rest of the challenge." And then she hopped down the wall to the ground below.
"Ah, so annoying." Jenna grabbed onto the rope, but the mud on her hands made it a difficult task. Rubbing her hands onto her lab coat, she attempted again. "I'll get you for this…"
Obstacle Course (Section 2)
Historia stood around, tapping her foot impatiently. She wanted to do something. Anything! Her eyes slowly turned to look at Arianna, who was humming. Striking a conversation could pass the time. But she was part of the other team, so she didn't see the need to talk to her. But the boredom was overbearing. Maybe she should have just gone first. That way she could have just gone back to her room after her part was done. Eyeing the girl for a few more seconds, she finally built up the courage. Taking a deep breath, she took a step towards her. "Hey-"
Talia showed up, and tapped Arianna on the shoulder. "It's your turn."
The moment that she got tagged, the girl was already off.
Which left Historia in an even more awkward situation. When she turned her attention over to the previous section, she saw Jenna dragging herself, covered in mud. "You're late."
"Eat… A dick…" She grabbed onto her leg.
The unbearable scholar shook her foot until it was free and took a step back. "I'd rather not." And without worrying about how she was doing, she turned around and ran.
This part of the obstacle course was less demanding than the first, to Historia's relief. It was just an easy balancing act on a log over a ravine. Nothing bad! "Ugh…" She mumbled out as she stepped onto the log. She glanced over at Arianna, who had already gotten decently far. Balancing herself, she took a few steps over.
"This can't be safe…" Arianna mumbled out, narrowing her eyes as she looked at the bottom of the ravine. "Chris, is there anything to catch us if we fall?" She figured he was watching them.
Soon, a loud sound could be heard coming from a speaker somewhere. "Yeah, duck and roll!" Reassuring.
She took a deep breath, steadying her balance. "Are you doing good over there?" No reason to be hostile to the other team yet.
"What do you think?" Historia replied with a rather rude tone. "One misstep and I fall to my death." Slow and steady… slow and steady… slow and fall- wait- Her foot slipped on the surprisingly slippery log. If she hadn't reacted quickly, she would have fallen to her death. Luckily, she managed to grab onto the log. "H-help…" She pleaded.
Arianna stopped what she was doing, and contemplated helping her. But that would do her no good.
"Hey! Chris!" Enima, who was waiting on the other side, called out. "Are you going to do something?"
No response.
"I know you can hear me- Ah forget this." The mysterious girl put her foot on the log. She was much better at keeping her balance than the other two girls. Almost like she should have been the one doing this part of the challenge. She crouched down and managed to lift up the unbearable scholar back onto the log. "Thank me later."
She tried to grab onto Enima's hand, but she was already gone. "Eh? You aren't guiding me back?"
The mysterious girl was already back on the other side. "You've got this, honey!"
"Ugh…" She slowly stood up.
Obstacle Course (Section 3)
Arianna had reached Xi, finally, and tagged him in to go. She was getting ready to leave, when the man spoke up.
"Kind of cold-hearted of you." He pointed out.
"Huh?" She turned to look at him. "What do you mean?"
He shook his head. "Leaving a girl to die like that. You didn't even make any attempt to save her."
He's kidding, right? "How would I have been able to save her? We were on different logs." Wait, she was just wasting time. "Shouldn't you be moving ahead?"
Xi's head tilted to the side, still watching Historia struggling to cross the log. "I suppose I should be making my leave now." He leaned forward slightly, hands in his pockets. "Well, see you." And then he turned around to walk away.
Confessional: Arianna
"Who does he think he is?" Clearly, she wasn't happy. "What kind of asshole is he to be going around in such a gaudy outfit, telling people what they should be doing? He was closer. Didn't see him moving an inch to save her."
Cafeteria
The door slowly swung open, and in stepped Nila, peering around the entire room. "Mindy?" She called out. But… nothing. There was nobody here. The only thing that caught her attention was the tumbleweed rolling across the floor. Taking a few steps forward, she glanced out the window. "I could have sworn she would have come here…"
Then, she eyed the back area of the cafeteria. "Did she come to the kitchen to cook herself some food? Chef appears to be out, so it should make sense." She moved over to the door leading to the kitchen, and tried to wiggle it open. Unfortunately, it was locked. "Umm…" She eyed the opening to the kitchen that Chef would serve food from. "This should do."
One jump later, she found herself on the other side. "Hmm…" She looked around, eyeing the place. "This kitchen is not well kept." She found stains wherever she looked. "This has to be some safety hazard…" She opened the fridge, just to be curious. Picking up a random container of milk, she stared at it. "This has been expired for three days…" She chucked in the trash so nobody would have to suffer from it.
The more steps she took, the more overwhelming the presence in the room felt. She stopped walking as she felt a shadow cast overhead. She tilted her head back, to look at the towering man behind her. "Hello there." She smiled.
"Girl, what are you doing in my kitchen?" Chef stood behind her, clutching the same cleaver he used to threaten David.
She didn't really seem too worried about him at the moment. "I am looking for a teammate. You would not have happened to see Mindy around, would you?"
"I don't even know half your names. Which one is Mindy?"
"The tall blonde one." That's the best way she could describe her. "She did not stop by the cafeteria earlier. So I was wondering if she came to grab some food."
"I didn't see her. Now leave." He took a step towards her.
Still, she wasn't phased by it. "May I take another look around. There is a spot here I have not checked yet." She was eyeing the walk-in freezer. The chances she was there were very low, but she had to be thorough.
"Take another step, and you'll regret it." Chef warned her again.
Well, how was she supposed to leave if she couldn't move? That didn't make sense to her, so she ignored his warning. Taking one step forward, she felt the ground creak behind her. Oop, made him mad. She quickly jumped out of the way as he reached out to grab her. "You just cannot take no as an answer." Once her feet touched the ground, she made sure to twist her body so she was facing him. "I do not wish to fight you. But if you want me gone so bad, then I shall take my leave." She exited through the same area she entered, all before Chef could catch her.
Watching her run out of the cafeteria, he stood by the wall, scratching his head. "Damn girl."
Obstacle Course (Section 3)
The next section involved a lot of vines. One had to climb up the ladder that was positioned at the start of the tree. Once at the top, they had to swing from platform to platform. Falling off at any point would force them to restart the whole thing.
Xi currently stood at the top, looking over at all the platforms. "Hmm… Just five of these in a row." He grabbed onto the vine that was positioned for him. "Walk in the park." Tightening his grip, he took a step over the ledge, letting gravity do the rest.
Unfortunately, he had forgotten the most vital part of the challenge. Letting go of the vine. Once he swung too high up, he figured it was best to let the vine swing back, and for him to try again.
With his feet back on the original platform, he took a deep breath. "Though I may never have done this before, this probably holds true for the rest."
"Speak for yourself." The voice belonged to Enima, who had just climbed up the ladder. Quickly grabbing onto the vine, she let herself fall off, sending one last glance towards Xi. "See you later, loser." As soon as the vine reached the optimal height, she let go, letting momentum do the rest for her, landing her safely on the platform. She turned back to look at Xi, giving him a wink. "Hurry up, before you fall behind."
He wasn't exactly the most fit competitor out there. Probably why he was chosen to be one of the people to go early. He let himself fall again. This time, he was successful, and managed to land on the platform. However, when he looked up, Enima had found herself on the next one already. Seems their lead had vanished in thin air the moment it reached him.
Obstacle Course (Section 4)
Reaching the last platform, Enima let herself drop off the final platform in lieu of the ladder. Landing on the ground with a louder thud than she expected, she took a second to recover before running over to Matthew. "Alright, don't lose our lead now." She ordered him.
He stood around for a second, humming to himself. "It matters not if we lose the lead now, as long as we tie everything up neatly by the end." He put Enima in the center of his finger frame, before making a clicking noise. "Consider it done." And then he turned towards the obstacle course.
She didn't quite understand what he meant, nor did she care. Her part of the challenge was done, so she was gone.
The fourth section seemed to be an open field. Nothing between him and Bella, who was patiently waiting on the other side.
Something didn't feel right, but he couldn't quite put his hands on it. "Hmm…" He hummed out in thought.
Standing around didn't do him any favours, as the lead the Killer Bass had managed to accumulate, vanished in thin air the moment Jack appeared on the scene. "Waiting around like an idiot, don't mind if I do." To him, there was nothing. Taking a step into the field, however, would prove to be a poor choice.
As soon as his foot planted itself into the soil, a loud explosion could be heard.
Matthew stood there, his tattered coat flapping in the wind from the shockwave. "Hmm…" He hummed, making another frame. "Beautifully captured."
"W-what?" Bella could be heard calling out. "Chris!" Now she was full on panicking.
"What? He'll be fiiine. As long as he doesn't land on another min-" Distant explosion. "Perfectly fine."
Obstacle Course (Section 10)
The sound had even travelled its way all the way out here. Hearing the sound of an explosive, Jared grew increasingly worried. "Is there some sort of bombing on this island?"
Josef, on the other hand, didn't seem to care all too much. He shook his head. "It's probably something Chris rigged. A non-lethal explosion to work as the obstacle for a section. From the sounds of it…" He looked out into the distance, peering over the trees. "I'd say it's around the third to fifth section.
"What do you mean by a non-lethal explosion?" The cadet shot a stern glare his way. "Any explosion can be lethal."
The wannabe host shrugged. "I doubt they would air this show if someone were to be in danger."
"But what if this entire show was a ploy, and this isn't going on TV?" Jared pointed out.
Ah, well, you see. He had never considered that. "Well, then we would just need to make sure that never happens to us."
Obstacle Course (Section 4)
Jack had finally managed to land on the ground in a spot where there weren't any mines. As soon as he came to his senses, he was back on his feet. "Chris, what the hell? That could have killed me."
"But it didn't! So keep the challenge going."
Looking down at his own suit, he grimaced now that it was ruined. "This wasn't cheap, you know." But he never got a response back.
Obstacle Course (Section 5)
Having witnessed the carnage that happened to Jack, Bella had a rather worried look on her face. "Do you think they'll be alright?"
Marisa had been watching too, but she hadn't said anything. Sure, she would have panicked had Jack died, but he seemed perfectly fine. "Let's just hope Chris enjoys his ratings too much to actually kill us." Though, from the looks of it, that may not be true. Then she realised something. "Where's your teammate?"
Scanning the field, the nature lover couldn't find him. "I… I don't kno-"
"Sometimes, what you're looking for is much closer than you think." He was standing right beside her.
She let out a scream, falling down onto the ground. "When did you finish the obstacle?"
He pondered the question for a few seconds, before making another frame with his fingers. "Time spent is not important. It would be better to use that to further our lead." He reached out his hand towards the girl.
Bella was hesitant at first, but she eventually shook his hand. "R-right! I'll go and finish the next section."
Once she was done, Matthew turned back towards the minefield. "Hmm… That wasn't that bad." And then he took a step into the field again.
Marisa was going to make a comment when another distant explosion could be heard. Before she even had a chance to react, Jack landed right in front of her. "Huh… Are you fine?"
He slowly reached up to tag her out. "Just… go…" He mumbled out. He'd be fine. He just needed a five minute rest.
Clapping his hand, the journalist quickly turned around.
The next section was similar in presentation to the third one, with the only exception being that there was no ladder to climb up the tree. In fact, climbing the tree was the entire obstacle. "I haven't attempted this in years…" She mumbled out, before her eyes scanned the trees for Bella. By the time she spotted her, it was pretty much too late to catch up to her. "How in the…?"
The quiet girl was already about halfway up the tree. It wasn't because she was good at climbing trees or anything, but there were a few birds slowly helping her so she wouldn't fall. Their talons were dug into her clothes as they flew up.
Confessional: Marisa
"At what point does someone just have an unfair advantage?"
"I… What?" How could she face off against that?
"Hey!" A voice called out from the top of the cliff that was their goal. It seemed to be Cameron. "Don't let yourself get beat by a bunch of birds! There's still hope."
They were before the halfway mark, so of course there was still hope. Letting out a small sigh, Marisa made her way to the tree. "Did not wear the right clothes for this…" She mumbled out.
But before she tried to climb up the tree, she grabbed her laptop bag that contained her notes.
She unclipped the strap, before wrapping it around the tree and herself. Once it was set up, she clipped the bag again. Once she had confirmed it was secure enough, she began climbing up the tree, using the strap as support so she didn't fall down.
Obstacle Course (Section 6)
Meanwhile, on the easy street to life, Bella had finally reached the top. "Ah… finally…" Despite not doing much work, she seemed exhausted. "Christopher, are you around?"
"Woah!" He called out, seeing the birds fly away from her. "How did you do that?" Seems he was simply amazed.
"Woah!" And so was Cameron, but he was on the other team, so he wasn't important right now.
"U-um…" Well, she wasn't used to getting this much attention, so she gave Christopher a quick shove. "Just… go on to the next part!"
He had to think for a moment. "Oh right, I am next. I should get going." He left Bella behind as he moved onto the next section.
"So…" Cameron spoke up, trying to break the silence. "You and animals, huh?"
"H-huh…" She didn't want to be having this conversation.
Leaving them behind, Christopher eventually arrived at the next section of the obstacle course. This time, it was a sheer cliff with a few fake rocks sticking out, just like ones you'd find on indoor rock climbing. "I remembered this from when I was a kid!" He sounded pretty excited when he said that. He made his way towards the bottom, beginning to climb his way up.
However, he only got about five rocks up before he fell down on the ground.
Confessional: Christopher
He shrugged, a sheepish look on his face. "Hey, I said I remembered it as a kid, never said I tried it as a kid."
Suddenly, the door swung open, causing Christopher to let out a small scream.
"Mindy?" Nila called out.
"N-No…? Are you still loo-" And then the door slammed before he could finish his question. After that, he just stared at the camera.
By the cabins
It had been a long search, and Nila was starting to get tired. She wasn't in the cabin, she wasn't in the cafeteria. She even checked out the confessional booth! But nothing. Was this challenge a bust if they needed everyone? Probably… However, when she was passing by the cabins again, she heard a sound. The sound of a door closing. Turning her head towards the source, she found Mindy there. "I- What were you doing?" She sounded somewhat ticked off.
The mischievous artist paused in her steps, slowly looking at the military trainee. "Huh… I… forgot something." She put on a sweet smile. "Sorry about that."
Nila thought for a moment, before she realised something. "But… that was the guy's side. What were you doing on the wrong side?"
"Oh, that?" She quickly shook her head. "I entered the wrong room. Anyways, why were you looking for me?"
"Oh, right!" It was that easy to distract her. "The challenge has started, and we need the entire team to be there. We need to hurry up."
Confessional: Mindy
"In my defense, I thought Chris would make a large announcement over the intercom system I found. Not to announce it at the cafeteria." She bit her thumb. "Well, let's hope the rest of the team was able to pull through."
Obstacle Course (Section 5)
Alright, admittedly, Marisa had overestimated just how difficult this would be. She didn't exactly go outside and climb every tree in sight. She assumed that if someone like Bella was able to do this as quickly as she did, she was going to be able to do it too. True, she had help, but the birds shouldn't have helped too much.
And yet, here she was, struggling to climb at a decent pace. On the bright side, she was almost at the top. However, just as she was getting to the top, she felt the strap of her bag loosen up. She had unfortunately spent too much time relying on it to keep her up, that she had put her entire weight onto it, which meant nothing was holding her body up, and she was about to fall.
She didn't even have time to scream, as someone managed to catch her hand.
"Woah there." Cameron called out. "I was wondering what was taking so long." He managed to pull her onto the cliff.
After taking a moment to catch her breath, she mumbled out a "Thank you…" She slowly got up, looking down the tree. It wasn't a terribly long fall, but it would have been a lot of time wasted.
She turned to look at him again, but he was already gone. "O-oh! Alrighty then."
Obstacle Course (Section 1)
The duo of Mindy and Nila finally reached where they were supposed to meet for the first challenge. "Where is everyone?" She began to panic, before a voice spoke up to them.
Although, it was less than favourable.
"Where the hell have you two been?" Jenna called out, marching her way over to them. "The challenge started an hour ago, and you just now show up." She placed a hand on her forehead. "We've probably already lost the challenge."
"C-calm down." Nila spoke up, putting her hands up in defense. "We should still be fine. Do you think Chris would not announce a winner to everyone? What is the challenge?" She eyed the military like an obstacle course. "Oh!"
Realising that she had a point, Jenna let out a sigh. "It's an obstacle course." She turned around to walk over towards the area the team had made plans. Once there, she picked up the image Christopher drew. "This is the order everyone is going in." She handed it over to her. "You are both going seventh and eighth."
Mindy looked off into the forest. "Just gotta follow along the path, huh." She had already wasted enough time as is, so they had to get there quickly.
Obstacle Course (Section 6)
Christopher had learnt to take it slow, and to not rush through the course. Any irrational movement he made almost always led to him falling. "Maybe I should have been doing this more as a kid."
"Hey!" Cameron called out as he reached the bottom of the cliff. "You're doing great! Keep up the good work!"
The happy-go-lucky idiot looked down at him, a smile on his face. "Thanks! You're doing great too!"
… "I haven't started yet." The DM pointed out.
Christopher remained silent for a few seconds. "That's true!"
But enough messing around. As opposed to Christopher, Cameron was very good at rock climbing. He didn't put much thought into the rocks he grabbed, but his grip was better, so it never really mattered. "It was nice talking to you, but we need this victory! Can't send anyone home on day one."
Seeing just how good he was, this gave Christopher a boost. For a moment, he seemed to be going at the same pace as the DM. Unfortunately, adrenaline could only carry you so far. With one mistake, Christopher found himself falling towards the ground.
Cameron stopped what he was doing to watch the boy, and cringed when he slammed into the ground. "I would stop by and help you, but." There was sort of a challenge that had to be done.
Once he was at the top, he tagged in Eleanor, who had been waiting patiently.
"Ugh…" Christopher mumbled out as the wind had been taken out of him, he felt his eyes slowly close.
Obstacle Course (Section 7)
It was finally Eleanor's turn, and the farmer girl wasn't going to disappoint. Although she was definitely more reliable when it came to strength. Agility… just wasn't her strong suit. "Um…" She hadn't actually taken a look at what her part of the course was. The thought never crossed her mind. She was too preoccupied with watching the others slowly make their way over to her. In front of her, stood several cannons, all aiming at the path she had to walk down. "Is this safe?"
"No." Came the disjointed voice of Chris from an unknown location. She better be happy, because that's the only help she'll be getting.
Taking a deep breath, she began running. She didn't make it too far before getting knocked back by a projectile, and knocked onto the ground. "Oww… what even was that?" She grabbed whatever it was. "A basketball? Why are you launching these at us?"
No response.
Guess she truly was on her own. Fortunately, this segment didn't seem to be too long. In fact, she could spot Robin in the distance. He was just looking at her, judgmentally.
Even so, she wasn't the best at avoiding the large variety of objects thrown at her. We're talking bowling balls, bowling pins, a random intern, an entire piano. Honestly it was absurd.
After many hits, she finally reached the end, where Robin was. "Ugh… we should have switched places."
He thought for a moment. "We can switch now. You take my spot, and I take yours." That way he didn't have to do anything.
For a brief moment, she entertained the thought that this might have been a good idea. Fortunately, she hadn't been hit hard enough in the head to make a dumb decision like that. "Just go to the next part, please."
"Hmm…" He hummed in disappointment before making his way to the next section.
?
The sunshine was beautiful on this fine day. There was a nice breeze blowing gently on the island.
And Christopher? He was having a fantastic day! He had woken up, gotten ready, and set out for the cafeteria. It was currently week seven, and nobody had been voted off. Soon, everyone will be able to get the hundred thousand dollars. Just as he had planned.
Once he arrived at the cafeteria, everyone was talking to each other. Everyone was friends. Everyone was his friend.
In fact, when he sat down at the table, one of his friends decided to speak to him. It was Bella! What a great friend.
"Christopher!" She urgently called out.
"That's my name!" He responded before realising he should give more than just that. "Good morning."
"Christopher!" She repeated, not offering anything else in return.
He was a little confused, but hey! Maybe that's just how she was. "Yes, good morning."
"Christopher! Wake up!" She called out again.
Instantly, the scenery changed, and he was looking up at Bella, with the sky behind her. "Huh…?"
"Oh, you're finally awake. You fell and knocked yourself out." She informed him.
Right… They had a challenge. They had been passed, and now the Screaming Gophers were in the lead. The small lead that his previous teammates had gotten them… gone. But he wasn't going to let that bother him. He quickly got up. "Well, seventh time's the charm." He called out, making his way over towards the cliff again. "That's why it's a lucky number."
Bella didn't have the heart to tell him what the actual saying was, so instead she gave him an encouraging smile. "Good luck." She called out before stepping away.
This time, the results were different. He had a teammate encouraging him, and he wasn't going to let his entire team down. "One rock, two rocks, blue rock, red rock." He told himself as he climbed up, even though all the rocks were green. And soon, he made it to the top… But none of it mattered if Mindy and Nila weren't bac-
A hand reached out to him. "You're supposed to tag me in, right?" Mindy towered over him.
A smile appeared on his face. "You made it!" He quickly grabbed her hand to help himself onto his feet. "Go! We still have a chance!"
She didn't need to be told twice as she turned around to sprint.
Obstacle Course (Section 7)
Despite her height, Mindy seemed to be incredibly agile. She was quick on her feet, and was able to avoid most of the projectiles thrown her way. Keyword here being most of them. She still got hit by the piano. That really took the wind out of her.
"You are doing good!" Nila called out from the other side. "We have to hurry. They have already started the next section. He is about halfway done right now."
Easier said than done. Slowly getting up, she began to run again, but this time, with a little more of a limb. Still, she managed to reach the other section. "Betcha the other team did horrible here."
"I'm right here!" Eleanor called out, a small frown forming on her face.
The artist tilted her head. "Yeah, I know." Seems that was the point.
Nila shook her head before turning towards the next session.
Obstacle Course (Section 8)
Robin had already started this section long before Mindy even had the chance to start hers. So, why was he still in this section right now? Well, this section was a little tricky. If any of you have seen Wipeout, it almost looked like it was ripped right out of there.
Robin stood on top of a narrow pathway, looking onto the obstacle at hand. He had to time his movements just right. There were spinning beams off the side of the pathway that would intersect with where he needed to walk. And they weren't going at a slow pace, no. They were spinning in such a way that he had to time everything just right, or else he'd be knocked into the water below (It was actually mud, but he liked to believe it was actually Wipeout).
After spending some time calculating the movement, he took a deep breath. "Alright, let's go." He took a step forward at the perfect moment where he could avoid both beams, and still gave him enough time to run to the next safe spot without having to worry about anything. "Perfect as always." This continued on for the few spinning beams, each with vastly different timing. Soon, he reached the end of that segment
This section of the obstacle course had three segments, making it one of the longer sections of this course.
Once he had moved past the pathway, he was onto the iconic bouncing ball one. "Hmm…" That was something he couldn't just calculate. He had no way of knowing how they would react. He turned around while lost in his thoughts, and saw something he hadn't been prepared for.
Nila had made it to the section, and in the first segment, she spent zero time thinking about what she should do. As the first beam went to knock her in the head, she swiftly ducked out of the way, while giving her just enough time to jump over the one about to sweep her legs. All of her thinking was done on the fly, and soon, she had already caught up.
"What are you doing waiting around?" She tilted her head to the side before jumping over to the bouncing ball. She almost fell off, but was able to keep her footing.
Right, sometimes you just have to be quick to react. No use wasting time to think here. He leapt after her, but had a more difficult time sticking to the landing. He landed, for sure. He just couldn't get himself onto his feet without the risk of slipping off.
Nila, on the other hand, had no such difficulties, from one jump to the next, she seemed to be way better than Robin when it came to agility.
"Dammit…" He mumbled out.
Confessional: Robin
He was stroking his chin, deep in thought. "You know, I didn't take the other team as much of a threat, so I didn't prepare myself for the challenge. Won't be making that mistake again."
Obstacle Course (Section 8)
Nila had left Robin behind in the second segment, and was now on the last Wipeout section. It was similar to section 3. She had to grab onto a rope and swing over to a target that was on the other side. If she fell, she would land in the mud. "This is easy." She told herself as she grabbed onto the rope. Letting her body fall off the platform, she went soaring.
The camera panned over towards the target, just to show her landing. Except she never landed there. Lost a bit, the camera looked around the scene. She wasn't in the mud. Then it followed where the rope was. Maybe she had gotten herself tangled up? Nope, not there either.
"Chris!" Nila called out, having landed beyond the target. "Does this still count?" She was standing right next to Jeremy, who didn't seem too impressed by the feat he had just witnessed.
After a few moments of silence, Chris spoke up. "I'll allow it!"
At that same moment, Robin had just landed on the target, crossing his arms. "Oh, so that's how it's going to be, huh." He didn't see an easy way down, so he let himself drop down, landing in the mud.
Seeing that the small lead she had gotten for her time vanished with every second wasted, she tagged in Jeremy, who wasted no time in running away.
Robin, covered in mud, made his way towards Catrina, who seemed to be too distracted with her music. "It's your turn." He said, trying to get her attention.
But girl didn't care! These tunes were all that mattered to her. She had her hands on her headphones, pressing them against her head to try and block out any outside noise.
Letting out a small sigh, the tactician moved over and pressed the volume button on the side.
"H-hey!" She called out, taking it off one of ears. "What's the big idea?" Although Robin didn't even have to answer. Because taking one look around, she clued in what was happening. "Right!" She slapped his hand before sprinting the other way. "Are we winning?"
"Yeah." He lied. Putting his hands in his pockets, he turned the other way.
Obstacle Course (Section 9)
Reaching the river, Jeremy let out a sigh of relief. Water. Something he was best suited for. His eyes drifted towards one of the two rafts that were meant for the challenge.
Confessional: Jeremy
"I pretty much grew up by the ocean, so anything water related is a breeze." Despite him sounding confident, his facial expression didn't match it. In fact, he seemed rather calm. "Although, I never dealt with rivers…" He hummed in thought.
Obstacle Course (Section 9)
Hopping on one of the rafts, he used a nearby stick to push into the stream. "It's weird, though…" He thought for a moment. "Aren't rafts bad for rivers?" Ah, what did he know? He was a coast boy. Tearing his mind away from his thoughts, he looked up, spotting Catrina approaching the shore. "Ah, don't even bother." He waved at her. "After I'm finished with this section, you won't be able to catch up."
"Oh yeah?" She called out, pushing her raft into the river, before hoping in. "We'll just have to see about that."
See? Like sea? "This is a river." He corrected. But what kind of captain would he be if he didn't keep his eye on the path ahead. Turning his attention to the front, he paused for a moment. "Ah right, rafts suck for rivers." He mumbled out as the river took a dive downwards, and he struggled to hold onto the raft.
Catrina was even less prepared, somehow, than Jeremy was. "Hey what the hell-" She called out as she slipped. "Chris what is the meaning of this-" She slipped on the raft. As soon as she hit her head against the wood, her headphones flew off. "Hey no!" She quickly lunged forward, grabbing them before they fell off. Once she had confirmed they were safe, she clutched onto them. "Hey, I paid a good price for this!" She yelled out, presumably at Chris.
Confessional: Catrina
"Actually, they were a gift from my mom. Besides, they're a few years old. I'm due for a new pair. But I want Chris to think he would be responsible for them." She had a smug look on her face as she crossed her arms.
There was a moment of silence before another voice spoke up. "You know I can hear these, right?"
"Ah shi-" And the footage cut abruptly as the last thing it showed was her panicking.
Obstacle Course (Section 9)
Jeremy had managed to get himself back onto his feet. He had nothing to grip onto, so he just prayed he would make the journey safe. Then, he realised something. "Oh right. I kept this." The stick he used to push the raft was still in his hands. "This might be easier done than said." He stuck the stick into the water, making a makeshift paddle. Or more of a sad excuse for one. Still, it accomplished the goal he had in mind. Minor adjustments to the raft.
Meanwhile, the river was rocking Catrina's world, and not in a good way. "Dammit… just…" She tried to get back onto her feet, only for the river to change direction abruptly, sending her back onto her ass. "For fuc-" A fish flopped out of the river and slapped her in the face. "Enough." She grabbed it before it could fall back into the water. Now she had a fish. But with that fish came an idea. She looked around until she spotted Jeremy not too far from her. "Take this…" She took aim, and flung the fish at him.
Unfortunately, it didn't make it very far before splashing back into the water. Now she was just standing around awkwardly.
Confessional: Catrina
She had nothing to say. She just shrugged, a very lost look in her eyes.
Obstacle Course (Section 9)
Jeremy was none the wiser at the attempt on his life. Especially since he had more important things on his mind. He could see Josef out in the distance. He was fast approaching the end of the river. He turned his focus towards Catrina. "Well, it's been fun." He gripped the stick he had been using to navigate the river. "Take a parting gift." He chucked it at her. And, unlike her throw with the fish, this one picked up a distance. But still, it wasn't enough given the gap between the two. Jeremy stood around awkwardly. "Yeah… I saw this going better in my head." To save himself the embarrassment, he jumped off the raft, onto the shore.
"Hey!" Catrina called out. "Get back here!"
Obstacle Course (Section 10)
Imagine Josef's surprise to see someone running towards them, and it wasn't Catrina. "Jeremy…?" He mumbled out. That could only mean that Nila and Mindy made it in time. And not just that, but they must have not wasted any time if they were winning. He turned his head over towards the next obstacle; Sprinting up the iconic Wawanakwa hill to reach the top. "You know." He crossed his arms. "I ran track in high school."
"Ran… as in past tense?" Jared hummed in thought.
The wannabe host shook his head. "I still do. Keep your mouth shut." He pointed his cane at him. Once Jeremy tagged him in, he was gone. Or well, maybe not as fast as one would expect him to be, given what he just said.
Jared watched him for a bit, stretching his legs, waiting for Catrina. Once she had tagged him in, he took off into a sprint.
Despite Josef getting a minute for a head start, Jared wasn't going to let that hinder him. In fact, he was beginning to catch up to the wannabe host slowly by slowly.
When he noticed that, he began to panic internally. "Crap." He mumbled to himself.
"For someone who claims to have done track, you aren't as good as me." The gap was closing inch by inch.
Confessional: Josef
"And how exactly was I supposed to know he actually ran track?" His cane sat beside him as his legs were crossed. "I thought my lie would be demoralising."
Obstacle Course (Section 10)
Despite his best effort, Josef really underestimated not only his own stamina, but just how long this run was going to be. His legs began to falter, and his speed began to dwindle.
With that, Jared was able to overtake him as they neared the top. "I'm sorry, but hopefully passing you won't result in your elimination." Even after running for that long, he still had enough breath to say all of that without much issue.
Once he reached the top, his eyes focused around, searching for where Ashton was. The last part of the obstacle course, and victory would be theirs. "Ashton!" He called out upon seeing him.
Obstacle Course (Section 11)
David had been spending his time sitting on a log. He was confident he wouldn't have to do anything in this challenge, and that was fine by him. He glanced over to where Ashton was, and he seemed raring to go. "Congrats on your victory."
"Huh?" That seemed to catch him off guard. "But the challenge isn't over yet. It's still anyone's game!"
The shady guy shook his head. "No, I doubt it. Two of our teammates weren't there at the start, and there's a chance they didn't make it in time." Either way, an easy elimination ceremony.
Ashton put his hand on his forehead to block out the sun. "I'm not so sure about that. I see both Jared and Josef making their way over here."
"W-wait what?!" David blurted out, falling off his log. "What the hell do you mean they're both here?" He ran over to the starting line of this section. Seeing Josef falling behind, he called out. "Hey! Hurry up there!" Now if they didn't win, David' ass might be on the line for not winning the last segment.
Jared arrived first, tagging in Ashton. "Let's do this!" The racer called out, turning towards the edge of the cliff. The last section of this obstacle course, jumping into the water below, and landing in the target area.
Once Josef made it to David, the shady guy wasted no time in tagging himself in before sprinting after the racer. "Hey! Get back here!" He called out.
"Hmm?" Ashton tilted his head to the side. "Didn't you congratulate me on my victory? Why are you taking it away from me?" Despite being a racer, he was slightly slower than David.
Which gave him enough time to catch up right before Ashton made the leap. But instead of passing him, the shady guy did something else. He reached out, and pushed him down.
Of course, they were near the edge, so this still allowed Ashton to go over the cliff.
Unfortunately for the racer, that wasn't going to be enough. As he fell off the edge, he landed on his back on a ledge protruding from the cliff. With a pained groan, he was forced to look at the sky as David leapt off the edge.
"Sorry." Was all he felt like saying as he began to fall towards the water below.
Quickly getting up, Ashton called out. "You won't win if I can fall faster than you!" And with that, he leapt off the ledge after David.
Confessional: Ashton
He seemed pumped. "My dad always told me that no matter how unbearable the pain is, to keep fighting!" He clenched his fist before his expression softened. "Actually, he told me to not push myself if it hurts too much, but I always did the exact opposite of what he said. He should know that by now. Something about reverse psychology."
Obstacle Course (Section 11)
Gravity wasn't really going to change the outcome here. Everything was already set in stone. As David landed in the water, he raised his fist up while holding his breath. The first challenge was over, and it was all thanks to him.
As he resurfaced, however, he realised something. "Hey… wait…" The area he needed to be in was just a few feet to the left. "Hey Chris!" He called out. "I still jumped. Doesn't that mean I win?"
Chris, who was passing by on a boat, held out his megaphone. "As long as you make it inside the target area, that's all that matters. So, you still have tim-"
A single splash in the center of the target, and, a few seconds later, Ashton would surface out, slightly disoriented. "Did I win?"
Putting away the megaphone, he pulled out something else. "And the winners are… THE SCREAMING GOPHERS!" This played across the island, letting everyone know.
"What?" David was still in disbelief. To be so close to winning, but ending up short.
Confessional: David
"This is bullshit, and Chris knows it." He shook his head, looking away. But then a smile crept back up on his face. "I guess I'll just have to make sure the target shows up on someone else's back."
Cafeteria
Josef… was annoyed to say the least. Sure, they entered the final section behind the Screaming Gophers, but he saw David jump off the cliff first, so it didn't make sense. "David…" He called out. "How did you blow our lead like that?"
His name was already brought up. "Our lead? By the time you got to me, we were losing."
"Odd…" Jeremy mumbled out. "I reached Josef well before Catrina ever got the chance…" He thought on this issue for a bit before shrugging. "Oh well."
Jenna rolled her eyes. "But who knows how much time we lost because of these two." She pointed her finger over towards Mindy and Nila. "I think the blame should go to them."
Mindy stood up, slamming her hands on the table. "Alright, if it's any concern to you, when I got there, Christopher still hadn't finished his section."
"I plead the sixth." He quickly responded.
Historia narrowed her eyes. "You want… a fair and speedy trial?"
He had to reconsider this.
Jeremy thought for a moment. "Well, wouldn't it be best to consider who actually helped out during the challenge?" He thought for a moment. "Nila caught us up in no time, so I think she should be safe."
Enima leaned back in her chair. "And I kicked that goth guy's ass." She seemed rather proud of that. "And saved Historia. That should make me safe too."
"Save?" Jenna raised an eyebrow, before turning towards the unbearable scholar. "What, did you almost die in your section? Oh, and look who was so eager to switch."
Well, she wasn't going to take that attitude. Standing up abruptly, she slammed her hands on the table. "Oh? And who was the reason I was forced to rush in the first place? Maybe if you had done the first section quicker, I wouldn't have fallen."
"Oh right, blame me, why don't you? You're the reason I even had to do the first part." She shook her arm a bit. "I'm still covered in mud."
Some of the mud splattered into Bella's food, who was staying out of this for the most part. "Ah… I… I guess not." She pushed her bowl away.
Matthew let out a sigh. "You guys are taking this too seriously. Just vote for whoever you want. No need to discuss this with anyone."
Josef turned his head towards him. "No, we should discuss this. We have to be in agreement with who we send home."
"We could just send you home." David shrugged, a cocky smile on his face. "You're kind of bossy."
"Enough everyone!" Nila stood up, glancing at everyone around the table. "The more we talk like this, the more we are just going to end up fighting."
Enima leaned her head to the side. "Aww, but it's getting good."
"We aren't building a team dynamic like this." Matthew shook his head. "Just look at the other team." He made a frame with his fingers, looking at the other table.
Josef remained silent for a few seconds before voicing his concerns. "There's nobody at the other table."
"Clearly all out there having fun." The movie fanatic said. "Maybe a beach episode…"
"Ugh, whatever. I already know who my vote is going towards." Historia pointed her hand at Jenna.
"That makes two of us." The arrogant chemist stood up, turning away from the table. "I'm going. If I have to eat another bite of this putrid food, I'm going to barf."
Confessional: Nila
She had a small frown on her face as she looked off into the distance. "Things… do not seem to be going well. I wish I could do something, but all of my words are being ignored."
Beach
Arianna had been wandering outside. She didn't see the need to go to the cafeteria, given the food. And, there wasn't any elimination ceremony tonight, so the team had split off and went various ways. So for now, she was left alone to think of a game plan. There were a few people she could make use of. Her thoughts, however, would be interrupted.
"And what are you doing alone by the beach?" Xi called out, leaning against a nearby rock.
Just the person she didn't want to talk to. Of course, she had to put on a nice façade. "Oh, just enjoying the view is all. It has a different feel to it than the one from where I'm from. Guess that's the benefit from living on an island."
He looked at her for a few seconds before leaning forward. "Is that so…?" His lean soon turned into a walk as he began to approach her. "And here I thought otherwise."
"Huh? What do you mean?" She offered the same smile.
Putting his hands in his pockets, he approached the water. "Oh, well, maybe I'm wrong. But you don't strike me as the type to waste your time away at the beach side. Your mind doesn't seem empty enough for that."
She already had a bad feeling where this was going. "Well of course my head isn't empty. Why would you think that?"
He covered his mouth, growing deeper in thought. "How about an alliance?" He finally offered, turning his head slightly towards her. "I think our playstyle could compliment each other."
What playstyle? It was the first day. "I… don't know what you're talking about." She did. But she wasn't going to let him know that. Talking to him was a chore. "I mean, if you want an alliance, I wouldn't be opposed to it, though." One less person who would vote for her. Although, she had a hard time believing that Xi would hold up his end of the deal.
Narrowing his eyes slightly, the psychologist shook his head. "Forget about it. Maybe I was wrong." He moved past her to head back towards the cabin.
She watched him walking away from her, a bit of anger apparent on her face.
Confessional: Arianna
She had her arms and legs crossed. "What the hell is that asshole's deal?" That smile was gone, and was replaced with a scowl. "He's pissing me off beyond belief. And not just because he's annoying. He seems to know just how to piss me off. It's intentional." She looked away. "I even offered to join up with his dumb alliance and he immediately backed down from it. If there's anyone I want to vote out, it's that fuck."
Elimination Ceremony
It had been a long difficult day, and now, night had fallen. The eleven campers from the losing team slowly made their way to the campfire, where one of them would be going home.
Once there, they'd each take a seat on one of the stumps. Most looking the other way. To be voted off first, that would be an embarrassment.
Chris stood behind the campfire, holding a plate with only ten marshmallows. A sombre look on his face, although it was just for show. Chef stood by his side. "So, Killer Bass." He called out, looking at everyone individually. "You're the first team to lose a challenge, and the first team to have to vote someone off."
"There are only two teams." Matthew pointed out. "There was a fifty percent chance, so it's not too surprising."
Josef spun his cane around, eventually pointing it at Chris. "It's just a minor setback. We'll pull through."
Chris lifted up one of the marshmallows on the plate. "This… is a symbol of safety. Receiving one of these means you've made it through the elimination ceremony. Cherish them dearly, as you don't know whether or not they'll be the last one you'll get." He placed the marshmallow back on the plate. "Once voted off the island, the camper must walk the dock of shame, on the boat of losers, never to return. Ever!" He picked up a marshmallow again, but this time, it was a different one. "When I call out your name, you are safe. The first marshmallow of Total Drama goes to…" He looked at all the campers, before chucking it. "Nila."
She caught it with a small smile. "I am safe."
"The second marshmallow goes to…" Looking around again, he finally found his next target. "Bella."
She hadn't expected to be called out so early, so she fumbled with the marshmallow before it fell to the ground.
This time, he grabbed two marshmallows. "... Jeremy and Matthew." He tossed one to each of them.
Both boys caught their marshmallows. While the former had nothing to say on the matter, the latter lifted it up to view it. "A piece of safety, huh?" He closed one of his eyes to get a better focus.
Another two marshmallows. "Christopher, and Enima." He chucked them one each.
"Oh!" Christopher caught his happily. He turned towards Bella and presented it to her. "Look! I'm safe!"
"A-ah! That's good." She was happy for him.
Five people left, but only four marshmallows remained. "And now, the bottom five. David, Historia, Jenna, Josef, and Mindy, you each must have done something to incite the wrath of your team, because you all have votes."
"Hey, what did I do?" David crossed his arms.
If Josef wasn't wearing sunglasses, maybe one could have seen him rolling his eyes. "Lost us the challenge, duh."
Chris took a deep breath. "David, like Josef said, you had all the potential to win the challenge for the entire team, but you came up short. Historia, you seemed to have angered someone, or maybe even a few someones."
"Whatever."
"Jenna, the same could be said about you. Going off on your teammates like that isn't the best idea." Chris continued, not waiting for a response from her. "Josef, you seem to have taken a leadership role that some may deem you unworthy of."
"Someone had to step up. Not my fault no one else was qualified." He crossed his arms.
"And lastly… Mindy." Chris shifted his focus to her. "You were absent at the start of the challenge, which put the panic into your teammates. If you hadn't shown up, you would have lost on the spot."
But she didn't really seem to care. "Hey, I made it in time. So no harm, no foul."
"The seventh marshmallow of the night goes to…" He picked it up, looking around. "Mindy." Didn't know why she barely had any votes, but that's what everyone decided. He threw it at her.
"See, I told you." She had a cocky smile on her face as she caught the marshmallow.
"The eighth marshmallow goes to… Historia." That was one marshmallow for her.
She caught it without changing her facial expression. But she did glance towards Jenna.
Three left. David, Jenna, and Josef. And only two marshmallows left. "The plate is getting lighter by the second." Chris said as he picked up the next marshmallow. "The next marshmallow goes to… Josef."
And it was thrown at him.
He caught it, a little ticked off it took this long.
"David, Jenna. There's only one marshmallow left on my plate. Which means one of you is going home tonight. Is it going to be David, for fumbling the challenge, or Jenna, for making a few enemies already?" He looked at both teens, who both had a worried expression on their face. The threat of elimination for the two of them was real. Grabbing the last marshmallow off the plate, his gaze continually shifted between the two of them. "The last marshmallow of the night GOES TO…"

"David." He threw him the last marshmallow.
A sigh of relief left his mouth as he caught it. "Sorry girl." He didn't seem very sorry.
She had been voted off…? She knew she was a little difficult with people, but still. "Yeah, whatever." She stood up. She began to walk in the direction of the cabins.
"Where are you going?" Chris pointed off towards the dock. "The dock is that way."
"I'm going to get my stuff." She narrowed her eyes.
Chris gave Chef a look, before the cook began to approach her. "Don't worry, we'll mail your stuff back to you. At the end of the season."
"What?" She began to panic, but didn't have enough time to react as Chef picked her up. "Hey! Let me go!" She tried hitting him in the arm, with little to no effect. Once they were on the dock, she got chucked onto the boat. "Hey! You can't just leave my stuff here!"
But by this point, it was already too late. The boat had already taken off, with the sound of Jenna shouting growing more distant.
Chris moved up over to the dock. "That concludes the first ever elimination of Total Drama Island. Not too bad if I do say so myself. But that was only the first of many. Which also means it's the only first of many death defying challenges you'll see here. Who's going to win next time, and who will join Jenna down the dock of shame? Find out next time, on Total! Drama! ISLAND!" And then the camera cut out.

Voting Confessionals
Bella
She was sitting around nervously, probably hating the idea of having to vote someone off. "Well… um… I think Josef isn't really being a great leader… So my vote goes towards him."
Christopher
On the other hand, Christopher didn't seem to have a problem with voting for someone. Honestly, he was just happy to be able to participate. "Bella told me she was going to vote for Josef. And I don't see a problem with that, so that's who my vote is going to be!"
David
"Well, with a target on my back, it's only natural I vote for someone who also has a target on their back. Which means I should vote for the person to most likely piss off the most people. So either Jenna or Mindy." He tilted his head to the side, thinking. "Probably best for me to vote off Jenna. I heard she's been doing nothing but bitching all day."
Enima
"Honestly, I could see a potential alliance with Historia. I don't see her making any allies anytime soon, so I should probably buddy up with her. Besides, I already saved her life, so she'll take a liking to me. And for that reason, I'm going to vote off Jenna."
Historia
She had a small scowl on her face. "As if I even need to mention I'm voting for Jenna. Nor do I think I need to give a reason."
Jenna
"Maybe if someone hadn't been too quick to throw me onto the first part of the challenge, we could have saved enough time to win. So my vote goes out to you, Historia."
Jeremy
No thoughts behind those eyes as he appeared to be deep in thought. "... Jenna." And that's all they wrote.
Josef
"We would have had it had it not been for David undershooting the goal." Josef called out. "So of course, he deserves a vote."
Matthew
"Hmm…" He made a picture frame with his fingers. "Honestly, I could see anyone going home. But it's not about who performed the worst. To me, this is about who I trust the least. And that Mindy girl gives me bad vibes."
Mindy
"That David guy's pretty sketchy. Now, I know you'd normally think I'd vote for Jenna. But I'm sure she'll get enough votes anyways. So honestly, I'd want either to go home." A mischievous smile appeared on her face. "Besides, I did my part in the challenge, so I'm not in danger of going home."
Nila
"My vote goes to Jenna. She threatens the peace that this team could have." She tilted her head to the side. "Besides, she was one of the reasons for the yelling match earlier. We cannot have that on this team."
