He was already in the Halls, but he felt like dying nonetheless. He couldn't breathe, despite not having needed to breathe for over 30 years by now.

"I am sorry." Námo's voice was kind, but that was hardly enough to deal with this. "For what little worth that is."

"I..." Rog wanted to scream, wanted to vent, but it would not do anything. It would not help. Would not undo what had happened. Would not bring back Egalmoth.

Beside him, there was a soft sob. Maeglin stood as a statue, and though the fëa in the Halls do not have bodily functions, everything showed his entire being weeping.

They were alone in the chamber, having been summoned by the Vala.

"Why...?"

"This is why no Eldar may have two spouses in life." The towering form softly stated. "If, by chance, they lose both but endure themselves, it will destroy them."

Unfurled on one of the few tables in the Halls of Mandos, was a tapestry, newly woven. On it, the Lord of the Heavenly Arch breathed his last, never to come to those selfsame Halls, never again to be seen by elvish eyes... Never again...

"He..." He clutched at it, though he had not body with which to hold. It'd be the closest he'd ever again get to his husband.

"Perhaps he has gone where Mortal Men go, which means that he might well return to thee for the Second Singing." Was that supposed to be comforting? How was he supposed to miss a part of him for Ages of the world yet to come!?

"And when is that supposed to be!?" He had been married for just 223 years, was he supposed to wait the same amount of millenia on the sliver of hope that he'd see Egalmoth again in the Second Singing!?

"I do not know." At least there were no empty platitudes. At least there was that.

It didn't help at all. It did not help him at all with the prospect of eternity with only one of his two spouses.
