Chapter 1 – The Beginning of Something New
It was another boring old day in Jasper Nevada. Nothing but desert and a small town sitting in the middle of nowhere, but the town did with what they had. But Eliana who just moved to Jasper Nevada was going to make most of her new home.
Eliana Mueller had just arrived in Jasper Nevada with her sister Leoni who just got a new business opportunity, but it required them to drop everything and move to Jasper. Eliana was finishing up unpacking her stuff and making sure everything in her room was to her liking. As Eliana was on her last box when she heard a knock at her bedroom door and saw her sister standing there.
"How are is unpacking?" Leoni asked as she leaned against the door.
"Good I guess." Eliana responded as she continued to riffle through the last box.
There was the awkward silence floating through the room. Leoni could tell there was some hostility with the sudden move and making her sister leave her friends behind. Leoni knew she didn't want to upset her sister even more, but she wanted to let her know that everything would work in the end as it always has for both of them.
"Leoni, I'm fine," Eliana said as she stopped unpacking and looked at her. "I know we had to move. Everything will work out in the end for us." Eliana continued with a smile and walked over to Leoni and gave her a hug.
"I know, but at least we won't be seeing any snow." Leoni joked.
"Now you'll really make me miss Minnesota." Eliana laughed.
"How about we finish packing later and we go out and get something to eat. Not mention I need to get us some groceries." Leoni said.
"Sounds good to me." Eliana said as she followed Leoni out of the house and went to get themselves some food.
After a fun fueled short trip to the grocery store the two sisters went to get something quick to eat. And the only fast food place they could see was a burger joint called KO. The two sisters looked at each other and shrugged and decided to go through the drive through anyhow.
"I guess this is what the small town has to offer isn't it." Eliana muttered as Leoni ordered their food.
"I know Eli, but we got to make the most of it." Leoni said.
"Okay Leo." Eliana said with a smirk.
"Don't call me Leo." Leoni said with a smile as well.
When the sisters got to the window there was a boy manning the drive through who looked like he was still in high school. Eliana thought she might see him once she starts attending the high school here.
"Thank you." Leoni said as the teenage boy handed her the bag of food then drove off back to their home to make sure their frozen foods didn't melt in the trunk.
The sisters quickly put the groceries away in their kitchen then began to eat their lunch in silence. Eliana wished the silence stayed, but she knew right then and there her sister was going to bring up that teenage boy at the drive through. Sometimes Leoni could act like such a mom instead of a sister.
"Eli are you ready for school on Monday?" Leoni asked.
"Somewhat. Leoni why can't I just do online schooling?" Eliana begged.
"Because believe it or not in this small town you need a social life." Leoni said.
Eliana didn't want to make matters worse for herself, so she just dropped it right there. She wished that they would have stayed in Minnesota where she had friends and life, but not she lost that all. Eliana always tried to be optimistic for her and her sister's sake, but in the middle of nowhere wasn't helping with her hopefulness.
"Eliana it only has been the first few days. Please give this a chance. The reason we moved from Minnesota was because I wasn't making enough to take care of you." Leoni said with a sigh and put her head in between her hands. "I need to finish unpacking my office." Leoni said as she got up and left Eliana alone in the kitchen with her thoughts.
"I'm sorry." Eliana whispered as she watched her sister walk towards her office.
Eliana threw away their wrappers and headed back upstairs to continue unpacking the upstairs area of the house with what remaining daylight left. Once Eliana was done with her room and the remaining rooms upstairs, she pulled out her laptop and placed it on her desk to see if she could video chat with her friends back in Minnesota.
Sure enough they were on and waiting for her to see if she would join them. She clicked on the video group and all of her friends appeared and were excited to see their friend.
"Hey Eli! We miss you!" They all said in unison.
"I miss you guys too." Eliana responded.
"How's the unpacking going." One of them asked.
"We just finished, Monday I official start at my new high school." Eliana said.
"That's cool, but don't you dare forget about us!" another one said threating in a joking way.
"How could I forget about you guys." Eliana said.
But Eliana thought, would she make any friends in this town? It seemed too small to even have its own high school, but she had to be optimistic for her and Leoni. As the night went on it came time to say good night to her friends as they both had to go to bed early to make sure they were not oversleeping for Monday.
Eliana closed her laptop and went to get ready for bed. As she was opened her door, she hit Leoni with the door.
"Oh sorry Leoni." Eliana said.
"It's alright." Leoni said as she rubbed the area where she got hit. "I just came up to say good night."
Eliana could read something was off about Leoni right away, what could have possibly happened now. They were only in Jasper for 3 days already.
"Somethings wrong isn't there?" Eliana asked.
"Something liked that. My boss already wants me to take a trip to Europe for the company." Leoni said.
"Why so soon?" Eliana asked.
"I guess I'm really liable and good at my job? I leave Monday." Leoni said with a sigh.
"Well that's alright. I can take care of myself and I'll make sure to show up to school and try to make friends." Eliana said with a smile to make her sister know she was her support.
"Thanks Eli, you're the best sister a s sister could ever ask for. Now get ready for bed I want you to have a good sleeping schedule as should I." Leoni said as she headed towards her bedroom for the night.
