Bonnie values her life away from Mystic Falls and returning wasn't likely for her until her daughter's safety was compromised. The Salvatore Boarding School would change everything for the Bennett witches. Secrets will unfold and time can only tell what's to come next. Hope Mikaelson won't be the only one with her world turned upside down. Family is forever, whether anyone likes it or not. Everything is done in the name of family. -an au of TVD/TO post season 8 & 4 of TO.
Please enjoy! :D
Goodbyes normally left a bittersweet taste in the witch. The end always seemed too finite. Her friends would move on with everything in their lives and she remains in the waiting. Nope, that wouldn't be this kind of story. She has to be more than this, there are no excuses even if it breaks her down. She can prove she's better than this small town she once loved.
Bonnie gazes over her desk filled with photos from the years prior and then at the multiple suitcases by the closet. Hard to believe there was a time she didn't know what being a Bennett witch meant. Packing should've made her significantly weary. Instead, excitement fueled and warmed her extremities. She wanted to shout to the world about her departure. She's the town witch who saved the day! Her job as of now is done. These untouched feelings of joy shouldn't be shamed. It was a month ago when she stopped hellfire from burning this town to the ground. There's no denying sacrifices and those losses but she's learning to make peace with them. This was their home. You protect what and who you love. There are regrets, none that were weighing on her heavily as of now. Maybe those emotions would soon follow when her friends showed up in another hour. She does tend to cry when Elena and Caroline get overly sentimental. As of now the witch feels rejoiced in her soon-to-be journey.
There was a girl out there who needed her. More than her friends could've ever possibly imagined. Those soft and sweet coos and gurgles haven't left Bonnie's ears since waking up after saving the town. Enzo did say it wasn't her time for a reason. She did feel her family's presence around her that eventual evening. Maybe, the stars were aligned all along. Fate does work in special ways.
Hello, I'm Bonnie and I thought this journal could help you. It's not perfect but it's my letter to you. Hope you can find some guidance and love here that'll carry you on your journey.
"Hello, I'm Bonnie," Bonnie repeated to herself and sighed in frustration. She tapped her pencil on the page once, twice, and thrice. "Nope," Bonnie muttered, cursing herself as she tore out the page and crumpled it up.
"You're a lot better at goodbyes than I ever was, Bonnie," Damon said, standing in the doorframe. "I let myself in case you didn't notice." The vampire shrugged his shoulders and speeded over to the witch's bed.
"Yes, Damon, you can have a seat on my bed," Bonnie replied, then closed her journal leaving her crumpled paper on top. "Why are you here an hour early before everyone else arrives? Bringing me a goodbye gift early? Leave it near my bags. No, bourbon for the airplane."
"You'll get your gift, Bonbon," Damon reassured, sitting up and moving closer to Bonnie. "These last few years if there's anybody that deserves this opportunity to find themselves out there it's you. You've survived everything that came at you."
"Damon, I wasn't expecting you to get emotional first," Bonnie replied, folding her legs in her seat. "Reflecting on the good times?"
Damon's phone pinged a distraction to him for a moment. The vampire held the witch's hand in his own. She's not seventeen years old anymore and afraid of her powers or trying to kill him every day. Bonnie Bennett was a warrior, and he wouldn't tell her this part but his greatest hero and role model. "You deserve to live a good life, Bonnie. Make sure it's the best one and I mean it. Don't do that thing you do when you talk yourself out of new experiences either."
Damon leaned over and kissed Bonnie's head and her hands. "I'll be back in an hour with your real gift." Damon turned to look at Bonnie as he stood in her bedroom's door frame. "Thank you, for everything."
"You're welcome for everything," Bonnie replied, grinning proudly. She gave the vampire a final head nod and listened as her front door closed. The witch turned in her chair again and reopened her journal.
Dear, little witch
I did it.
"I did it," Bonnie repeats to herself with a smile. Tears fall wetting the page.
If I did it. Then I'm certain you could do it even better. I haven't even met you yet and I believe in you. You may not be mine and I may only be a friend to you. But, I hope I can guide you just as well. I happen to be the best self-taught teacher I know! Ask anyone and they'll agree. Everything can change before your eyes and I hope you're accepting of that. It'll be scary some days but here are some rules. They'll get lengthy overtime but I hope they serve you well. If not, trust your instincts first and foremost. You'll see everything through.
Rule 1: Never show anyone you're afraid of them. You're smarter than they are.
Rule 2: Magic will never leave you. Your power is infinite.
Rule 3: Make an escape plan. Creating an exit is important!
"I did it," Bonnie says, closing her journal for now. "That's all that counts."
This wasn't an ending for Bonnie Bennett but a beautiful beginning. She's making peace.
"Daddy, what's happening?" Hope asked as she leaned up with assistance. She moved in her mother's arms wanting to be closer to her father.
"Hope," Klaus said, wearily. "I love you." And I'm sorry it has to be this way. He desperately wanted to apologize but instead, he sped as far away as he could get. He thought he was heartbroken seeing Henrik shut his eyes permanently.
"Dad!" Hope cried, trying to fight from her mother's hold. "Mommy, fix this! Daddy, please! Dad, come back! I need you!"
Listening to his seven-year-old plead for his return sent him into his damnation. The best way to protect and keep his seven-year-old unharmed was to not be near her or his siblings for the rest of his life. He was immortal. What a lonely life to be fated to. Needless to say, Klaus had all the time in the world to be alone and that isn't what he wanted.
