A/N: Wow! This has been written, except for the last paragraph, for far too long. Sorry, I am so behind in posting. One of my three courses is done, so hoping to have a bit more time to write more.

For those of you who do not like Rory's decisions, understand I am not going to change it. Personally, I am a strong believer that a woman can have a long engagement, a very rewarding professional career, and still find their way to a happy marriage and loving family. This story will leave the 1950's perspective in the '50s. Rory will battle those who have those old-fashioned ideas and Logan will too because they need to find their way forward and not have regrets about what could have been and this is MY take on how that will happen. If you want a '50s story, please feel free to write it.

I do not own Gilmore Girls, but I sure do appreciate the characters that were created which provide so much inspiration for such unique and diverse story-telling.

L: I have everything from the truck in the house

R: Great

L: what do you want me to unpack?
R: books

L: seriously?

R: yup, unpack my books I will send you an email with the order they go in.

Logan is rolling his eyes, of course she has a document on how to organize the books.

R: no eyerolls mister

L: right

L: we need to coordinate a couple of days for you to come and pick out furniture for the bedroom.

R: Just make sure the bed is comfortable

Rory's phone begins to ring.

"Hey" Rory answers

"Hello" Logan is holding back his frustration, he hadn't expected her to say comfortable bed, "um, so, you don't want a say in the furniture?"

"I do, I really do, but it isn't fair to make you wait to assemble the master bedroom. My schedule sucks for being on the west coast until September, Logan. I will have an entire week out in that area, but until then it will be a day or two when I am writing up whatever I have pulled together to submit for my weekly update."

Logan is listening and trying to have patience, remember what Honor had said about them needing to work long hours to get established.

"Ok, then, I was thinking, unless you object, how about I hire an interior decorator and then can send us both ideas? I don't feel comfortable trying to guess what you would want and they have a sample book that you can vote on rooms you like best, then they do the shopping and send the look for approval."

Rory is thinking about how that is a total waste of money, but he is trying to make sure she has a say even though she can't be there. It was kinda sweet and better than him asking her to come and shop when she is barely able to keep up as it is, "yeah, if that is what you feel comfortable with. I mean, I liked our place at Yale, so you could really just put that in the master bedroom and it would be like coming home and we can save the money. Honestly, Logan, I won't be there that much with all of the traveling. Have you seen this insane itinerary? Right now I am on the bus, but if all goes well, I have dreams of being on the plane."

Logan is swallowing hard, as much as he knows about the industry he really didn't understand the life of the reporter. 18 months was a long time for her to be away more than at home. "Ok, no designer, keep it simple, Yale in California."

"Thanks, Logan, and oh, hey, set it up sooner than later."

"Really?"
"Yeah, I am going to be in finishing up in Virginia at the end of next week and I thought I would fly out on Sunday and then back to South Carolina on Wednesday morning, Obama has a rally that afternoon and I found a flight that will get me there. I can leave my bags with Mary Katherine clothes-wise, and just do carry-on. Then I'll be on the bus until we get to Hartford on the morning of the 23rd, stay have dinner with you at Honor's and then hop down to South Carolina again on the 27th. I know that doesn't give you a lot of time to settle into work at the front end, but I figured it would be good for us to see each other, alone, before being with family at the end of the month."

Rory is putting up her finger to her roommate, not exactly the type of person she would be best friends with, but Mary Katherine was a dedicated reporter and seemed to have that something special in the go-get-it approach, which helped Rory more than she had anticipated.

"I love you, Logan, see you on the 10th."

"I love you too Ace, and keep up these nice surprises."

As Rory disconnected from Logan, Mary Katherine flashed Rory a big smile,

"So, off to see the fiancee, Leigh?"

"Yeah, we just got engaged and haven't had any real time together. I figured it would be a nice surprise to just show up, but then he was talking about furniture shopping and honestly, I don't want to spend time at a store and waiting for delivery."

"Oh, I hear you, but you trust him to actually set up your apartment?"

"Actually, he has really good taste and we have some nice stuff from our college days, you know - grandparents spoiling us." Rory was still feeling out her new hotel mate. They had found themselves sitting next to each other in the back of the bus after Rory had joined the press corps. Mary-K as Rory called her had a video blog for an online presence so they could relate to the pressures of the online world. Despite Mary-K having some success, she was not earning a lot of money and offered to split a room with Rory when they were on the road together, so they could save a bit more of their paychecks. Rory, known to Mary-K as Leigh, thought that was sensible and agreed.

Mary-K nodded in the direction of Rory's left hand and smiled, "well, that rock certainly indicates the man has excellent taste."

Rory blushed, "yeah, he really does."

As Logan hung up the phone he grinned at Collin. "Guess we are moving the Yale bedroom in, she is coming in less than 10 days."

"Good news!" alright, I will get started unpacking the books and following the directions she left."

—- 10th of June

Rory was carrying her backpack and laptop, heading out toward the taxi stand when she saw the familiar messy blond hair off to her right. "You came to pick me up?!" She dashed into his open arms and had her storybook meeting. "It is like the movie"

Logan captures her lips with his before she can start naming whatever movie is coming to mind. As they pulled apart, he placed another kiss on her forehead and leaned in, "Ace, it is so good to have you in my arms." He slipped her bag from her shoulder and wrapped his arm around her as they started heading out to the car that was waiting for them.

"hmm, it is nice to be here with you" Rory snuggled into his side and lay her head on his shoulder. "It is good to be home," she murmured in his ear and he smiled, knowing that feeling all too well from when he had been in London.

They pulled up to the house and Logan paid the driver. "So, here is it."

Rory stood in the driveway admiring the house, "Logan it is awesome, three-car garage, what is behind those doors?" she queried.

"I'll show you later, right now, let's look in the house." He pulled her in close and kissed her again, he was really glad she had just suggested setting up the bedroom like Yale because right now he had no interest in going shopping to pick out anything.

Rory appropriately oohed and ahhed the kitchen, dining room, and living room. She saw the spiral staircase in the middle of the house, "and what is up there?"

Logan led her to the left as the house was laid out in a circle, "let's skip the stairs for the moment, I have one more room on the first floor to show you." he led her into a sitting area that opened to the bedroom which overlooked the garden and patio.

"Oh, my, god, oh, my, Logan - this is beautiful." The windows went from floor to ceiling and the bed was under it, and with the touch of a button Logan lowered the blinds just leaving the doors that led to the patio, and entertainment area.

Pulling Rory to the bed he leaned in kissing her neck and said: "just want to make sure that this meets your standards."

Rory rolled over and smiled, Logan had his head propped up on his hand, his fingers were playing with her hair and a very satisfied smirk was on his face. "have a good nap there, Ace?"

"mmhmm, how long was I out?" she asked.

"Only twenty minutes, but just enough time to recharge." Logan leaned in and started kissing her again, twenty minutes later and the two finally left the bed to see the shower.

"You know, I was thinking that maybe we should check out the back patio area." Logan said as they finally started getting dressed. He took her hand and they walked out of the bedroom onto the patio where she stopped and just looked around, "Logan, we have a hot tub built into our patio and a bar with grill and, oh, Logan, my avocado tree." she turned and kissed him. "This is perfect. Best place to come home to." They sat outside and talked about everything that seemed like it had been too small to discuss while she was on the road. Another two hours had passed when Logan heard Rory's stomach growl.

"Hungry there Ace?"

She just looked at him and raised an eyebrow, "when have you not known me as being able to eat? and yes, I am hungry." They rose and he showed her the faster route to the kitchen from their bedroom was actually outside.

"I have an idea, you go up the stairs, and I'll pull together something to eat." Logan pulled out his phone and texted Colin and Finn letting them know Rory had made it and they would get together tomorrow. Finn texted back a frowny face.

"Logan" Rory was leaning over the railing, " it is the biggest office library I have ever seen - this is amazing and it has its own deck."

"Keep going back," Logan called up.

"There are two bedrooms up here too and they have been used."

"Colin and Finn stayed with me to help get it all set up when we found out you were coming out early."

"Ah, that explains so much. They did a good job with the books, must have put Colin in charge," she called down while looking over the books and making a few minor adjustments.

"Yup, sure did."

Rory came back downstairs and made her way to the kitchen, "oh, that smells good lasagna?"

"Yeah, they have a service out here where I can order homemade meals and they are delivered twice during the week, so everything is fresh. Way less expensive than having a cook, but still good food."

Rory just looked at him, "well, if your hours are anything like mine then that makes total sense, I mean it can be tough to wait for the takeout to be done on some nights."

The next morning, Rory awoke to find Logan still in bed and curled up around her. She gently got out of bed, still being on east coast time, and realized it was only 7 am here. Pulling out her laptop she started working on her next article for Hugo, she was sitting out on the patio with a blanket over her, as the air was cool in the morning. Logan stirred about an hour later, just as she was finishing up. He came outside and handed her another cup of coffee, seeing that there was already an empty mug sitting next to her. "Good morning sleepy head." she smiled up at him. It was strange for her to be the first one out of bed, "aren't you heading into the office?"

"Nope"

"Really?"
"yeah, I have an agreement with Mark, when you are in town I am not in the office. When you aren't in town, then I am almost living in the office."

"Ok, well, that seems fair, so you will basically get 4-5 days off each month then?"

"That is the plan, I mean I am the new guy, but he understands and thinks it is smart for me to really be present when we are able to be together quality time."

Rory closed the laptop and put it to the side, she put her hand in Logan's and they went back to the bedroom to spend some more quality time together.

"Ace, want some breakfast? I have mastered eggs." Logan said as he walked into the bedroom from the shower.

"Keep walking around like that and we will never eat again," Rory said licking her lips, they kissed once more, but Logan's stomach was now growling too.

"We have this afternoon." Rory whispered in his ear, Logan grimaced, "what we don't have this afternoon? I thought you said you weren't going to work."

"I'm not, but Colin and Finn are in town and I had to agree to let them see you at some point, so I figured today was good. They could come over, we can grill, and then they can go home and we can go to bed." Logan said wrapping his arms around her.

"Oh, all of that sounds good. I am ready to be around people that I can just enjoy being with instead of watching what I say."

Logan tilted his head, "what does that mean?"

"Well, it means ..."

Just as Rory starts, Finn barges in "Love, love, come here and give Finn a big hug." He sweeps her off her feet and gives her a classic Finn hug, whispering in her ear, "good to have you here, Love, we have missed you."

She smiled, "I missed you too, Finn."

After getting her feet back on the floor she turns to hug Colin, "Hey reporter girl, how is it, being on the road?"

Nodding her head, "it is ok, not glamorous, but it is good to be in the thick of it."

She turned to Logan smiling. They know there is so much more they need to talk about, but it will wait. Now is the time to hang out and just relax.

"Well, since I am exotic, I brought exotic food for us to cook - buffalo." Finn is grinning and starts to head to the outdoor cooking station. Colin grabs the drinks and follows, linking arms with Rory and asking her to tell him 'all about it.'
