Author's note: I do not own GG but sure enjoy the characters.

Ok, the dialogue in these two phone calls is what got me started on writing this fanfic, particularly the rant in the second one. Sorry, they are short, but I hope you like the back and forth. My next one will be Honor's BBQ.

Rory with Lorelai

"No!" Rory groaned as she rolled her eyes at her mother being infantile.

Begging and pleading, "oh, please."

"Mom, no, you are being ridiculous."

"No, I'm not and you promised."

"I never promised" Rory rolled her eyes again.

While Lorelai's twinkled with delight as they bantered, "yes, you did."

"When?"

"When you left me for -" she started to shoot back

Rory's shoulder shot back and she was practically spitting, "what?"

Lorelai realized she was crossing a line and knew she had to dial it back, so while the words were provocative she changed her voice to an obvious 'I don't really mean it, tone' - "You know, when you went to California instead of coming home to me."

Rory relaxed and pulled back, but she wasn't going to let her get the last word, "Mom, this is absurd, I didn't leave you for him and we discussed this." She was really hoping this would be the last of her mother's comments on Logan.

Lorelai switched back to the teasing tone from where they started, "oh, come on you can grant your old mother this one last dying wish"

Rory decided to play along again, bringing her voice back to a whisper but laced with sarcasm "dying wish, old? Mom, you are crazy."

Both were breathing better, a fight had been avoided. Lorelai still wanted more information on what was really going on with Rory and Logan but knew that was a conversation for in-person, where the body language could be read, so she continued with her ridiculous request, "crazy enough to have you, now, please for Mommy, loin fruit"

Rory relented, knowing the next sentence would get her the funniest looks from her bus mates, "ugh, fine, I will write you an article on Iowa corn."

In utter triumph, "Yes, finally, this will be the piece that will get you the Nobel"

A huff comes from Rory, "Pulitzer."

The joyous, triumphant voice, put Rory at ease that the worst of the conversation was hopefully over, "Nobel - Pulitzer, what's the difference? Mommy won."

Rory decided she had enough of the crazy, "ok, so now that I am the laughing stock of the bus, anything interesting happen this weekend?"

Slightly serious tone, Lorelai rejoined, "hmm, he hasn't asked yet."

Surprised, "what? I thought he was going to ask you this weekend"

"oh, so you DO know something, does he have a ring?"

"Mom, you know he has a ring, he has had a ring, gave it to you, then you broke up and now you are together again. I guess I misunderstood his comment about needing to talk to you about something important. "

"oh, we discussed something very important this past weekend"

"And it was"

"Should he change the coffee beans"

Rory, was completely caught off guard, does she believe her mother, "WHAT? No, no that can't be an option. You are kidding right?"

Rory can hear Lorelai grinning - "yeah, you are right - we discussed the date"

"The date or THE DATE?"

"The date you are coming into town and we see you again."

Rory's shoulders slumped, when was Luke going to pop that question?

Rory confirmed, "Well, the date has not changed - Obama's schedule is pretty much set until the convention, so we are still on for the end of the month. Gotta say I am pretty excited about seeing you. But please dial back some of the snark around Logan's sister."

"As long as it is just Honor, but don't think I can hold back with the rest of his family and no chance with my mother." she reminded Rory.

Rory sighed, she knew her grandparents being there would cause tension, but she wanted to reiterate that Logan's parents were not coming, at least that is what she had been told. "Um, last I heard no parents but Grandma and Grandpa are invited - it is a BBQ so lunch. Oh, and Colin and Steph, maybe Finn if he is in the area. Just you and Luke are invited for the entire day and well, Logan of course."

"I figured logan would be there, he seems to be the main event." Lorelai just couldn't help herself.

Rory decided to ignore the bait and just respond, "Yeah, well, he is the fiancee and it is his sister's house."

"Hey, does anyone on the bus know the last name of Logan?" she asked again, this question seemed to come up every time they talked.

"Nope, and it is going to stay that way." Rory reminded her.

"Do they know your last name "

"You mean Danes?"

"We gotta make that legit - dang it when is he going to finalize this?" this time her voice was wistful.

"Mom, I gotta go, we pulled up to the next speech. "

"Corn"

"Yes, corn."

"Love you, kid"

"Love you too Mom."

Author's note - A few nights later / Rory and Logan-

"Comfort Inn is not comfortable, Holiday Inn doesn't make me feel like I am on holiday and I don't write better after staying at an express, Hampton Inn I actually like their pillows. Why did I buy all of those little shampoo bottles? Why can't most of these hotels use the large dispenser? I mean I listen to this global warming - climate change talk and then I go back to these hotels and almost every one of them is using these small plastic bottles. Not to mention the disposable stuff in the breakfast areas. If Obama gets elected he needs to convince Congress to pass a law outlawing all of this disposable stuff in hotels. I guess I should be telling Finn this, he could set an example, and their hotels could lead the way in using reusable materials, like plates and silverware. What I wouldn't give to eat from a real plate with a fork in the morning and coffee, oh, don't get me started on the coffee. They need to use real cups for coffee, these styrofoam cups, not only are they bad for the environment, but the coffee flavor is just changed. So, I put coffee into a styrofoam cup, and then from the same carafe I poured it into my travel mug, totally different flavor. Logan? Are you listening to me?"

"mhmm"

"Are you really listening to me or are you doing work while I rant?"

"Not working Ace."

Rory looks at her watch and realizes that she is one time zone further east than she was yesterday. "Oh, oops, sorry, kinda didn't pay attention to the time, oh, hey, wait, you are not in bed - it is 9 o'clock here so it is 6 o'clock there, are you eating?"

"Yup!"

"Are others around?"

"I was taking notes, Love! Going to lead the country to a new sustainable future." Finn jumped in grinning.

"Oh, hi, Finn! So, really, you like my ideas. I have a million of them and I know you are more of the upscale hotels, certainly not the ones that I am staying in, but we need to do something for our future."

Logan is grinning listening to them discuss the future of climate change. Rory had already written an in-depth multi-day piece on climate change and the policies being proposed by Obama and how they compare to all of the other democratic candidates. It was insightful and hard-hitting. A contented smile sat on his lips as Finn and Rory continued.
