Chapter 17

Fuck.

It was incredibly hot to witness Mia speak up for herself like that. He would have gladly defended her if he needed to though.

He found a server with champagne and couldn't help but think about how Mia would prefer red wine. Maybe he'd plan for a chance to wine and dine her. He licks his lips, and then dine on her.

When he made his way back to her section of the gallery she wasn't speaking with Harmony anymore. It was actually a perfect opportunity to speak to Mia's friend.

He approaches the woman, "When it comes to purchases, do you take cash?"

Harmony turns to him and tries to hide the upturn of her lips, "Lucifer," She greets, "Yes, we do accept cash. Which one were you interested in?"

Like there would be anything other than Mia's work that he'd purchase.

"Rising. The peacock. It would be a nice peace for my daughter's hotel." He speaks simply. He could feel this turning into an interrogation.

"Her rehabilitation center?"

"So you've heard of it." His eyes squint.

"Hmm, that's the thing. I haven't heard of a rehabilitation hotel around here."

"It's not around here."

"I'm going to cut to the chase. You ghosted my friend and she's too god damn nice to ask so I will. And what is this ex-wife business? I don't want Mia picking up someone's garbage."

Oooph. It almost hurt if it wasn't for the fact that he dealt with the shit sinners and overlords said to him all the time.

"My ex-wife and I haven't been together for eight years now. It was for the best, she was starting to go down a dark path. I tried to help her but you can only help those that want it." He zones out for a moment in thought, "That's what led to Charlie opening up her rehabilitation center."

Was he aware that it sounded like Lilith was a drug addict? Yeah, but he wasn't about to admit that he was once married to the queen of hell. Though now that they weren't together she wasn't exactly the queen anymore.

"Hmph." Harmony rolled her eyes, "Fine. You win." She crosses her arms in defeat, "But don't you fucking hurt her. I haven't seen her this happy since before Natalie died. If I have to end you it won't be the first time I've had blood on my hands."

Lucifer couldn't help the laugh, "I will hold you to it." He turned and left the woman there. At least he knew that Mia had good friends.

There was also an instinctive feeling looming inside him that Harmony would one day be creating an empire one day that would be in direct competition with Camilla.

He walked through an entrance way and he saw the curvature of Mia's body and how her brunette hair billowed down her back. He knew it was a good idea for her to have her hair down.

"Shit. Fuck." He sees who she's talking to. What did he do? His first thought was to run away, but he obviously couldn't do that.

What was Charlie even doing here?

On que his daughter looks over Mia's shoulder and her eyes widen. Mia and, was that Angel Dust?, follow her eyes to him. He didn't have much of a choice now but to proceed ahead.

He hands one of the glasses to Mia while still eyeing Charlie, "Char-Char." He couldn't contain the nerves, "Charlie, What are you doing here? H-how are you here?"

"Heyya Short King." Angel does a casual wave and picks up a champagne glass from a server as they walk by.

"Well, Dad." Charlie looks back and forth between him and Mia. Probably trying to figure out how to word her answer.

"We was in the area investigating what my bosses boss has been up ta." Angel spoke up, giving him an answer, "As for getting here. Alastor taught Princess here how to drive."

Completely forgetting his company, "Alastor. Fucking Alastor. If you wanted to learn you could have come to me. I would have gladly taught you." He does take a moment to look at their disguises and sighs.

He closes his eyes and downs the entire glass of alcohol. It barely stung for the situation.

Opening his eyes he looks at his daughter, "I'm happy you made it here safe. And you and Angel look perfect." He praised her.

Mia must have downed her drink during the, probably on her end, awkward turn of events. She places the empty glass on a nearby serving tray.

"Charlie," She was gentle with her words, "I'm sorry if this wasn't the way we thought we'd meet." He could feel how nervous she was and he was very aware of the space between them.

She was distancing herself for Charlie's comfort.

His daughter laughs, "Yeah. This was a pretty big fucking surprise. You're lovely. Very lovely. I can see why my dad likes you so much. And thank you for the poster you got me."

The two women were nervous about meeting one another. Charlie had the added bonus of Mia's humanity. Before anything got out of hand or there were any more misunderstandings there then there should be.

"I'm sorry Mia. I actually never invited Charlie to your exhibit." He looked between the two, "I wasn't ready to open up to just how close I've gotten to another amazing human."

There was a hesitation.

"I get it. I wouldn't push." Mia turns to Charlie and Angel, "But you're here now. Would you like to see the art that I do?"

"Az long as its better then the mediocre paintin' of them women fuckin." Angel Dust points him thumb in the direction behind him.

"I do more of the vibrant and lively art." Mia chuckles and leads them.

Charlie looks over her shoulder at her dad. Like she was looking at him for approval.

Lucifer nodded his head. If he wanted this to work out in some way with Mia. Charlie had to know.

Even if he knew he was going to get an ear full about it later.
