"But why do I have to wear it?" Adrien made a face as Marinette adjusted his bow tie. "My Cat Noir suit is more sophist-cated any day." Marinette sighed. "How many times do I have to tell you? Cat Noir doesn't work at Agreste Fashion, Adrien does. I know you don't like the bow tie but we can't have people asking questions." Adrien relented. "Your right as always, love. Come on, we don't want to be late."
The party hall was already buzzing with people and Marinette held Adrien's arm as they entered. However, she stepped back when some of Adrien's top employees came to say hello. Marinette had never liked the spotlight despite the fact she was a designer in her own right or Paris superhero.
Plagg peeked from the small bag Adrien carried, and when the coast was clear dove into Marinette's purse. "Come on, you two. Let's check out the snack table."
Marinette filled her plate with cheese, crackers and grapes. She was about grab a flute of fizzy apple juice when she heard a gasp behind her. "I didn't know Ladybug was coming to the party!" she spun around to find Alicia, who worked in sales, eyeing her red-and-black polka dotted dress. Marinette stifled a groan. She knew this dress would stand out, but Adrien had insisted, and she loved the shimmery sequins. And to make matters worse, Alicia was one of the biggest Ladybug fans there was. Not that that was a problem, she just got very excited. "Silly me, I do look like Ladybug don't I?" Marinette smiled at her. "Wouldn't it so fab if Ladybug and Cat did show up? They could do a slow dance and…."
Marinette smiled but her mind was racing ahead. Maybe Adrien could be Cat even if was just for a few minutes, and it wasn't unusual for Ladybug and Cat to pop in at events. "That would be nice," she told Alicia.
She started to walk away, bumping into Adrien. "Hey, where you off to?" he asked, giving her a gentle smile. "Follow me, I have an idea that could help you get you wish after all." Adrien's face lit up. "You found a way for me to catch the laser pointer?"
As much fun as patrol could be, sometimes it was deathly boring, and Ladybug had made a game of Laser Pointer. Cat loved the game, but he always grew frustrated, as he could never catch the light. Ladybug thought it was hilarious. "No, but you will get to be Cat after all, just for a few minutes." "Ah, yes, I've had several people tell me they thought your dress was inspired by Ladybug."
They found a quiet corner to transform, and Adrien was about to pull off the bow tie, when Marinette stopped him with a glare. "If you touch the tie," she growled. "M'lady, don't you know how much it chokes me? You wouldn't want me to have a fur ball, would you?" "Adrien, I spent a good thirty minutes adjusting your tie, so if you so much lay a finger on it, so help me."
Sitting still was one of the few weakness Adrien had. Well, that and his love for the cookie jar rivaled Marinette at times.
"Look, everyone! Ladybug and Cat Noir showed up!" A ripple of applause filled the room. Alicia dashed up to Cat. "Can I have your autograph?" Cat grinned. "Don't you mean paw-to-graph?" Ladybug groaned. "He'll be back after the slow dance."
Marinette had to admit that being her Ladybug suit was more comfortable, and she loved dancing with Cat. The spotlight followed them, but Ladybug kept her eyes on her partner. The crowd faded away, and it felt it was just the two of them dancing on a windy rooftop.
The song came to an end and Cat stared into Ladybug's eyes. She knew what he was asking for. A kiss. But this wasn't a silly kiss, or a "I'll be back in five" kiss. This was a formal kiss, full of romance.
Cheers could be heard as they pulled apart, they with a wave they scrambled up to the rooftop. "See?" Cat winked at her, green eyes glowing in the dark. "I can formal when I want to be."
Ladybug walked closer, flicking at his bell. "Formal is good," she looked up at him, taking his hands, "But I happen to like the "I've-just-made-a-pun-kiss better." "Oh, really?" Cat breathed. They kissed again, the moonlight a natural spotlight. "Cat?" Ladybug asked. "Before we go back to the party, could we have one last dance up here?"
Cat smiled, taking her back into his arms. Okay, formal wasn't so bad, most of the time.
