The team woke late the next morning and had a huge brunch. It was quiet, but everyone was just happy to be home and eating.
After that, Loki and Asta headed to their room.
"Nice choice of nightwear," Asta joked as they returned. She glanced down at the oversized shirt she was wearing. The shirt had Loki's Avenger symbol on it (his horned helmet). It had been a gag gift from Natasha last Christmas.
Loki shrugged. "It was the first thing that came to mind."
"Well, your highness, I do believe we had plans?"
Suddenly, the night shirt was gone and her Avenger suit was back. Loki was instantly in his armor and helmet.
"Yes, I believe I was going to peel this off of you and then make love to you on every surface we could think of."
Asta shivered. "As far as I can remember, that's correct."
"Mmm, well, I hate to be late, so let's get started on those plans." He slowly began to pull down the zipper on her suit and she sighed with content, happy to be married to such a powerful magician.
That evening, the shawarma was eaten slowly and everyone headed off to bed. The plans for Tony's party were already being made.
Loki fell onto the bed. "How can he possibly pull together a party of that magnitude in less than 2 days? Even in Asgard, that's asking for a great deal, and we have magic!"
"Well, boatloads of money probably help," Asta said, plopping down next to him.
"I suppose that's true. Please tell me you're not going to wear that red dress I saw in your closet."
"Are you that opposed to me wearing your brother's color?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes," he plainly replied. "I can't help it. And it's quite the conundrum because you look divine in red. What else is there?"
"Well, someone went nosing, why don't you tell me?"
Loki grinned, embarrassed that he gave himself away. "I liked all the green I saw. And the royal purple gown will look stunning on you. But it was the pale blue one that caught my eye."
"Ah, the ice blue one. Or as I like to call it, 'my husband has powers of ice' blue."
His eyes darkened and she knew she accomplished her goal.
"My darling, you cannot just say things like that and expect me to not react."
"You like that?"
He growled just a bit. "Yes, the color is striking and you calling it as you did… well, that's just all I needed to hear."
"Well, then I think that's exactly what I'll be wearing. Glad you like it. It's from Asgard after all."
He raised an eyebrow to that.
She grinned. "I am the future queen of the realm. Heimdall answers me now. I just happened to return home to ask your mother for a few gowns to wear to events here on Midgard. I came home with those, a gold one, a very nice burgundy one, and a deep blue one that I'm not sure you'll appreciate me wearing outside of this room."
"Is it scandalous, pet?"
Asta shivered a bit at that nickname. "Yes, I think you could say that."
"Oh I will appreciate it then. However maybe that dress can be…" He leaned in to whisper in her ear. "…just for us."
"Stay on target, my prince. Tomorrow is still the blue dress you like."
"I'll decide tomorrow how much I like it on you versus how much I like it on the floor. But for now, I'm excited at both prospects."
Asta rolled her eyes. "I suspect you are," she giggled as she looked down and saw how much the prospects excited him.
"My beautiful wife is going to wear one of the most alluring gowns I've ever seen. If you don't expect my body to react to something like that, you obviously haven't been paying attention."
"Oh I have. I'm just wondering what we should do about it."
"I think I have an idea," he whispered as he bent to kiss her.
A while later, as they lay cuddled in bed, Asta quietly asked, "Why do you hate for me to wear red so much? I mean, I get the Thor connection, but it seems extreme."
Loki took a deep breath. "It's probably foolish."
"Anything that bothers you this much is certainly not foolish."
"Fine. When we were still young, right around the time I found myself falling for you, I had a dream. A terrible one. I dreamt that Odin had decided to marry you to Thor. And despite protest from all 3 of us, he would hear none of it. And I had to watch you wed my brother."
"Oh, Loki. I'm so sorry."
"You didn't know, my love. But ever since then, I've had a terrible fear of losing you to another. And the thought of it being Thor… well, it still haunts me."
"I understand your worry. But I am married to you now, so there's that," Asta said with a smile.
"Yes, a fact that I am overjoyed with. A Loki cannot succeed without his Asta."
"'A Loki'?"
"Yes. Do you remember when I once told you that the multiverse is very real?"
Asta nodded. "I do, but I didn't think much of it then. How do you know this?"
"During my wanderings, I encountered a man who had been to the different dimensions. He worked for an organization that was hell bent on keeping one timeline instead of the infinite possibilities there could be."
"And this organization was…?
"The TVA, or the Time Variance Authority. Mobius, the man I met, was assigned to find and prune a certain variant that was causing issues in keeping the timeline intact."
She giggled. "Oh, let me guess, this was a variant of a certain god of mischief?"
Loki rolled his eyes. "I should be offended by that tone, but you are right, my love. Though, this one was the goddess of mischief, the only one to be a goddess to their knowledge. Mobius had encountered and studied a multitude of variants of mine. So, he enlisted another variation to help catch the first."
Asta shrugged. "Who better to catch a Loki than a Loki?"
"Exactly. But these two actually teamed up then to bring down the TVA. I won't bore you with the details, but they essentially defeated them and cracked open the multiverse. We technically owe our existence to them seeing as how we were not a part of the 'sacred timeline.' Regardless, Mobius told me a bit about other Lokis he encountered. A great majority of the ones that were successful were those that ended up with you."
She gasped a little at that. "Really?"
"Yes. Their stories varied a bit. In a few different timelines, I gave up royal life and we lived joyfully in the village. In others, we took the throne and lived happily that way. In another we just continued on as prince and princess. A few weren't so benevolent, but were efficacious at ruling the realms."
"Wow, that's amazing. And what of the Lokis that didn't find an Asta?"
"Most went on to try to overthrow Odin or the whole nine realms. Most were usually caught or kept running and hiding."
"And the variants that opened the multiverse?"
"Yes… well… they fell in love with each other. He's probably the only Loki to be truly successful without an Asta."
Asta laughed.
Loki huffed. "And what is funny about that?"
"Oh, my mischief. You know I love every bit of you, but your ego is almost as legendary as your powers. If presented the opportunity, I could completely see a Loki falling in love with another Loki."
"Well, this Loki much prefers being in love with his Asta."
"And this Asta is very happy to have found her Loki. I'd be curious to learn more about these other universes. To think there are other Lokis and Astas out there, just living lives like ours, or completely opposite."
"Yes, it's a lot to take in. But I shall count myself lucky that I am a Loki that found his Asta and lives in such bliss because of it."
"And I as well. For now, we should get some sleep. We'll need to be well rested for Dad's party tomorrow."
"I may never be rested enough for a Stark party."
"No one ever is." She kissed him gently. "Good night. I love you, my mischief."
"And I love you, my darling."
