It was game day. So after the last class with Allmight, the students went to the dorms for the one shot. Or they would if they talked about where they would play beforehand, so they discussed on the way.
"So where are we gonna play?" Midoria asked.
"How 'bout my room?" Sero suggested.
"Probably not for the best," Ochaco started. "it was a little cramped with the four of us; I don't think five of us in any dorm room would be comfortable for long."
"True. How about the common room?" Denki thought aloud.
"But that would disturb the other students!" Iida worried. "This should be unintrusive to the rest of the class."
Sero scoffed, "People use the common room for games all the time! Not even a week ago, I saw Kota, Sato, and Shoji play uno. No one's gonna mind."
"I agree with Sero," Denki said. "Does anyone else have any ideas?"
"No," Midoria ansered. " I was wondering if I could record the one shot, though."
"Why?" was the question everyone voiced
"Well, This will be my first game, and I want to remember it," Midoria stated, earning a smile from the group. "Not to mention I can watch it and see if anything we did can be used when we become heroes!" he enthusiastically claimed.
"I don't mind," Ochaco agreed. "how about the rest of you guys?"
"I don't mind." "Not really, feel free!" "I thank you for asking beforehand, I accept!"
"Cool," Midoria seemed excited. "So when do we start?"
"I was thinking," Sero thought for a moment. "Like, 30 minutes from now."
After agreeing on a time, the group headed for the standard room. Midoria set up a camera and an extra mic he borrowed from Professor Mic around the table.
And then it was time to start.
Sero waited for Midoria to finish starting the recording tools and then coughed. "Wealth, fame, power. Gold Roger, the King of the Pirates, attained everything this world has to offer. And so, many men head for the Grand Line to find the great treasure he left behind, the One Piece. The world has truly entered a Great Pirate Era!"
"Woah, great opening speech, Sero!" Denki seemed inspired.
"Wait, Pirates!?" Midoria was shocked and... concerned?
"Yeah?" Sero replied.
Midoria held his chin in his hand. "..." Midoria looked at his character sheet, "I don't think I can play this character."
"Huh? WHY!?" Ochako was confused.
"I'm playing a Fire Genasi Sorcerer. If I go in water, I can die, and being on a boat will just burn it down..." Midoria stated. He looked disappointed. "It's fine, you can continue. Maybe I can make a new character, but that will take a while..."
"That sucks," Sero sounded disappointed, but he was secretly relieved. 'Three players are easier to manage than four. I still feel bad, though. I can't believe we forgot to text Midoria the premise for the one-shot.'
"While we're on the topic, though," Sero pointed at the others, "Mind describing your characters?"
"As class representative, I shall go first," Ida said, picking up his Character Sheet in one hand and chopping with his other. "My character's name is Koby, with a 'k,' he is a level 3 paladin, and a few years ago, he was captured by pirates and forced to be their cabin boy. His dream is to be an admiral in the Marines."
"Are there even marines in this world?" Denki asked.
Sero Shrugged, "I'll allow it; the world leaders probably need an army, so why not the Marines?"
Ochaco went next. "My character is Nami. She is a level 3 thief and hates pirates because they killed her mother." she looks at Iida and seems to think, "For her dream, she wants a lot of money, like 500 million yen!"
"I don't think the currency would be yen, though?" Sero thought aloud, "I don't know, wouldn't it be copper? Gold? whatever, later."
Denki looked smug and pointed at himself with his thumb. "My guy's name is Monkey D. Luffy, but you can call him Luffy; he is a level 3 Monk and ate the Gum-Gum Fruit, and his dream is to-"
"The what? what fruit?" Midoria looked confused.
"It's a type of homebrew artifact, a fruit that allows you to trade in your ability to swim for what's basically a quirk," Sero explained. "The Gum-Gum Fruit, in particular, makes the user into a rubber man."
"I'm a bouncy boy," Denki said with a smile. "And according to Sero's card, I can also use a chi point to inflate or stretch my body."
"If he chose to play a magic user, I would have made it use spell slots," Sero added. "by the way, since I gave Denki one at the start, I'm allowing everyone to get one, but they can trade it in for something else if you don't want it. It's randomly generated, so it's not too broken."
Midoria nodded and got a notebook from his backpack.
"Anyway, we open on a yacht, and the only one of you currently on it is Nami," the others looked confused, and Ochaco was worried. "A man walks up to her and asks her to dance; what do you do?"
"I- um, I accept and danced with him for a while."
"Cool; meanwhile, on the ship's deck, two workers spot a barrel bobbing along the water. They throw a grappling hook and bring it aboard. Denki, can Luffy make a wisdom save?"
Denki was confused. "OK? Uh, not my best stat." he rolled and looked at his paper, "4," he sighed.
Sero seemed to be annoyed but sighed, "OK, moving on back to Nami then, its been a few songs, and you've been dancing for a while-"
Ochaco interrupted, "Can I roll to pickpocket some of my dance partners?"
Iida eminently reprimanded her. "That's not very heroic of you, Ochaco!"
"I know, but I'm a thief, and her motivation is money, so I just thought..."
Sero sighed again, "It's fine. Just roll me a stealth check. I'll say DC to steal anything is 13; anything more will get you more stuff."
She rolls and beams. "15!"
Iida looked appalled, "Your dice only said 7! Don't cheat!"
"Nami has a +8 on stealth; look, Sero can testify I didn't fudge the numbers!"
"And I will, it's fine, Iida. She didn't cheat. Anyway, you were not only able to get some gold watches from your dance partners, but you got some paper money as well. To be exact, you got..." *rolls a d6* "Four watches and..." *rolls a D20* "18 thousand, whatever the money is."
"18000!? That's so much gold to pickpocket!" Midoria stated
"It's fine. I've decided that the currency is a 1 to 1 equivalent to yen." Sero explained, "You know what, whatever the currency is..." he looked across the room and landed on a bag of berries. "Berry, whatever."
"Realy? Berry?" Denki complained, "Lame."
Sero was pissed. "OK, you come up with a better name!"
Denki thought for a minute but sighed and shrugged. "Fine, it's berries, but you have to admit it's kind of a dumb name for money."
"Whatever!" Sero turns his attention to Ochaco, "You hear the commotion as a few crew come in yelling about a pirate attack! Everyone is freaking out and starts running for the exits. What do you do?"
"Um.." she looks a little nervous but then smirks, "Can I hide and sneak around, or does moving mean I'm not hidden anymore?"
"You can move when hidden. I think?" Sero thinks but shakes his head, "It's fine. Just roll a stealth check."
"20!" Ochaco beamed. 'That's good, right!'
"Natural or with modifiers?" Sero askes.
"Natural." Ochaco ansers.
"Alrighty then, you can slip through the crowds, and no one sees you; you can get anywhere on the ship without being seen. But while you decide where we go, I think it's finally time to move on to you, Iida."
As Iida pays attention, he looks towards his sheet to memorize his modifiers. Sero takes the moment to pull off a twist. "You are on the ship's deck, your capturer; the pirate Captain "Iron Club" Alveda is ordering her men to board the ship. What do you do?"
"What, but I'm not a pirate; I was only captured in my backstory!" Iida bawked.
"But you never said how you escaped, just that you were captured." Iida takes a few seconds to look back on his character's written backstory, trying to find an argument. 'Perfect timing.' "Due to your inaction, Alvida comes barreling towards you..."
Sero puts on a gravel and rough voice. "Koby! What're you doing?!"
Iida was snapped out of it and looked at Sero with confusion. "Sorry, Sero, I'm not the best at this, but-"
"Hmm?! Are you tryin' to give me backtalk!?"
Sero drops the voice. "Alveda wealds her club, readying to bat Koby across to the cruser."
"That seems a bit extreme to do to a child!" Iida complains.
"Yeah, and she's a pirate." Sero deadpaned.
He brings the voice back. "Get yer ass in gear!"
"Alveda bashes Koby with her club, knocking him back and on the currently being raided Cruser." Sero narrated, "Koby takes..." *rolls 1d8* "Five damage. After you get your footing, she leaps from her ship to the rest of her men. What do you do now that you're on the civilian ship?"
Iida quickly glances at his stats before sighing. "With my stats, there is no way I can stop her on my own, so I will retreat and try and find some help. There may be people in the kitchen; even if not, I can acquire a suitable weapon, hopefully."
"OK, so you head into the ship's kitchen. Can you make an investigation check?" Sero smirked.
"Yes." he rolls a d20 and looks at his sheet, "I got a 16. What did I find?"
"Well," Sero thought. "alongside usual kitchen appliances, you find two things, a locked drawer, where you suspect the knives are kept to avoid anyone getting stabbed during bad weather, and what looks like a sealed wine barrel."
"Can I try to open the drawer?" Idda asked
"Roll sleight of hand."
"3," Iida sighed. "I didn't think a deceptive skill like that would be useful..." he complained as he looked at the -3 on his Sleight of Hand modifier.
Sero decided to get some action. "Sadly, it looks like you ran out of time to find a weapon, as three of Alveada's underlings found you."
Sero puts on a slightly different voice, "What do we have here? Lil' Koby hidin' like a baby?"
"the three start laughing at you until their eyes catch on the wine barrel."
"Well, well, looks like it's our lucky break boys! Free booze! Let's open it up and taste it, and then we can bring it back to the ship after some... sips."
Iida looked worried. And the others looked concerned. "But-" Iida began, "If she finds out she might kill you, how can you be so reckless."
"She won't find out unless you're gonna tattle on us. But that won't happen, will it now, Koby?"
"The three get to the barrel despite your protest, and the largest of the three raises his fist to punch open the barrel, but before he does." Sero turned to Denki. "Can you roll me another wisdom save?"
Denki, finally getting to do something, is ecstatic. "Yeah, just..." *Rolls a D20* "Hell yeah, Natural 20!"
"Cool," Sero smirks. "So as you wake up from your rest inside the barrel, you burst out the top and uppercut the goon. Can we get your character's first words this campaign?"
Denki decides to mimic what his character does as he speaks, standing up in slow motion, arms held high in the sky. "BSHHHWAAA! IIIIII FEEEEEAAALLL GREEAATTT! WHAAAAT A GREAAAT NAAAAAP!"
