Chapter 12

Capture

Dr. Ian Malcolm yawned as he looked at a plane leaving the airstrip behind. It wasn't that the Mathematician was tired. Nothing like that at all. Boredom had set in after the meet up with Doc Thorne, and he had been anxious to get out of Costa Rica. The memories. He'd spent a long time in the hospital, wondering if he was going to die. Hell, there were a few times that he nearly had. He'd even been pronounced dead one of those instances, scaring the other survivors of Isla Nublar into starting to figure out what they were going to do for funeral services.

"I don't like this," Sarah Harding stated as she moved up next to him.

Coming out of his thoughts, Malcolm turned to her and raised an eyebrow. "What? You're not tired of this tropical weather yet?"

"I'm talking about leaving the doc to fend for himself," Sarah replied.

"You make it sound like he's doing what Richard did by going to the island basically alone," Malcolm pointed out. "He said he's got a team from his garage coming down."

"What I mean is that he could need us," Sarah stated.

"Why?" Malcolm asked, glancing at his watch.

"I don't know," Sarah responded.

"We have an obligation," Malcolm reminded her. "You said that you were going to help me with the Biosyn situation."

"And I am."

"The sooner we get started, the better. If we don't get a jump on this while they're unprepared, Biosyn will get ahead of the situation before -"

"What's to say that they don't already have a plan?" Sarah asked. "The research shows that their CEO is a three steps ahead kind of guy."

"We can handle Jeff Rossiter," Malcolm told her.

"There isn't even any proof to our claims," Sarah pointed out. "How the hell do you expect to prove to anyone, let alone the court system, that Lewis Dodgson and his men did what they did? You are still under that non-disclosure agreement, right?"

Malcolm nodded.

"Then you'll be breaking it," Sarah told him.

"InGen was disassembled," Malcolm said. "Their assets were all sold off. There are just former employees in the wind. It's past time for people to know what happened anyway. The last thing we need is more people stumbling on Site B. We were off that island for a day and there's already an Archeologist and a kid on that island. The doc is about to go back with more people. I'll be amazed if there aren't any deaths."

Sarah stepped close to Malcolm and gave him a peck on the cheek. "It's very touching that you're wanting to step up and save the world, but you need to realize that if you open Pandora's Box, there's going to be a lot more than just Biosyn to worry about. That island, despite the disease present, will have a lot of people eyeballing it. There's a lot of DNA on that island, and there's a lot of Geneticists in the world. We could end up with someone taking a crack at trying to accomplish what John Hammond couldn't. Do you really want that on your conscious?"

Malcolm sighed. "You have a point, but I'd like to believe I can convince Donald Gennaro to bomb Sorna like Nublar was."

Sarah shrugged. "If you want to take on Biosyn, we're going to need to have evidence," Sarah stated. "We don't have to take them dinosaurs or anything InGen related. We need evidence toward what they did: their tampering of a natural ecosystem."

"I know what you're saying, and it's not possible," Malcolm said. "I'm not going back to that island."

"You don't have to," Sarah said. "We can split the investigation. You go back to the states and gather as much dirt as you can on them from their past. I'm sure there's a massive closet that they've shoved all kinds of secrets into. While you're doing that, I'll do what I can to not only help the doc, but get whatever I can from Dodgson's time on Sorna."

"I don't want you in danger."

"I won't be. The doc and I have been all over that island. We'll be fine."

"You'd better be."

Sarah smiled. "I've got to catch up to him before he sets out." She turned to leave.

"He already knew you were coming," Malcolm said, stopping her.

Sarah looked back, her smile widening. "Good luck with your part of the investigation, Ian." With that, she walked away.

Malcolm shook his head, turning to face the airstrip once more.

"Where is she going?" Levine's voice asked.

Malcolm turned, seeing that Levine was on his way with Kelly Curtis and Arby Benton in tow. They all had equipment in hand, clearly the devices used to keep track of things back in The High Hide.

"She decided to take the trip with the doc," Malcolm replied.

Levine sighed. "Well, maybe between the two of them, they'll get my camera facing the right way again."

"If those two stay in the hide, maybe that'll be the case," Malcolm said, rolling his eyes.

"Is it really a good idea for them to be there?" Arby asked. "I mean, the Raptors know it's there. They know we were there. What's to stop them from attacking again?"

Malcolm nodded. "Absolutely nothing."

"For my research's sake, I certainly hope they don't," Levine said, concern in his voice.

"You and your research need to get a room," Malcolm commented.

This got a chuckle out of Kelly.

Levine shook his head in her direction, clearly not amused.

"There's more important things in this world, Dr. Levine," Kelly stated. "The fact that we're all alive being the most important. We lost Eddie, but thankfully we all made it."

Malcolm patted Kelly on the shoulder. "Kid's right. Besides, your research means nothing with the DX Virus anyway. It's all a lost cause."

An airplane landed in the distance, causing Malcolm to point toward it. "I do believe that's us."

"How do you know?" Arby asked as the four of them moved in the direction of where the plane would stop.

"The timing," Malcolm replied. "Right on time."

The plane came to a stop and the side door opened. An airport crew moved the stairs up to the door but no one got out.

"That's odd," Levine observed.

"What?" Malcolm asked.

"No one is departing," Levine replied.

"You'll find anything to complain about, won't you?" Malcolm asked in annoyance. He took the lead up the ramp, the others following.

Moving inside, Malcolm stopped. "Maybe my hunch was wrong."

Several people, all sitting, held guns directly toward them.

"I think we have the wrong flight," Levine said with a smile and a nod. "We'll be leaving." Levine quickly tried to usher the kids out, but found that an Asian man in an expensive looking business suit, pinstriped and tailored, stood in their way, also holding a gun.

"Oh, I'm quite afraid you're most definitely on the right flight, Dr. Levine," the Asian said. "I'm Daniel Kon, and you'll find that we hijacked this plane at its last stop."

Malcolm finally turned around to face the man that was speaking. "Daniel Kon?" He stepped forward, moving past Levine and the kids. "I remember you. You're one of the Japanese Investors that was heavily involved with InGen."

Daniel bowed. "I'm so glad that you remember me, Dr. Malcolm. I certainly remember your issues with the park. It is sad that you were correct in the end, but there's no time like the present to correct old mistakes."

"What are you talking about?" Malcolm asked, concern etched in his words.

"Together, we're going to see John Hammond's vision perfected," Daniel stated, allowing a grin to cross his lips.
