They had failed again. Not even the two of them could stop Sayaka from becoming a magical girl. Although Homura was able to save Madoka from being murdered by a witch in an old warehouse, there was no way to change Sayaka's motivations. The only way Kyosuke could play again was to use magic. Reason enough for Sayaka to make a contract with Kyubey. Hitori couldn't stop Kyubey from tricking her. For every kyubey killed, a new one would appear.
A new plan was then put into motion. If Sayaka was doomed to become a witch, which would affect Kyoko's fate, then they had to keep Sayaka as sane as possible until Walpurgis appears. However, Hitori had doubts about it.

"I can't transform into a witch. If my soul gem gets corrupted, nothing will happen to me unless it happens to Homura... but... if Sayaka and Kyoko end up completely dirtying theirs, we would have to deal with 2 additional witches... and I wouldn't be able to use my magic if my soul gem gets dirty… Homura couldn't resist, so I… I… if she dies, so do I…"
Hitori stood up from her desk. She was at a crossroads. If the 4 of them faced Walpurgis, they would win without a problem. However, Homura couldn't last another fight with 2 new witches. Although she wanted to abandon the plan to avoid a fight between Sayaka and Kyoko that would begin the blue-haired girl's journey to despair in order to ensure that her original plan continues, Madoka's reaction could leave Homura devastated, and Hitori did not want to see to her partner suffering.

- Hitori, can we talk?
- Yes of course.
Homura led Hitori through the streets of the city. She wanted to talk to her in a quiet place, away from all the chaos that was happening and about to happen.
- We're.
Homura said.
- Homura, where are we?
Homura sighed.
- I have always wanted to bring Madoka to this place.
Hitori looked at the horizon across the small hill that bordered the city. For the first time in a long time, she felt at peace.
- This place is…
- Beautiful. I know. – Homura assured. – I have been saving this place for Madoka, but… I think you deserve to be here.
Hitori blushed a little.

- Thanks, I guess.
- Hitori, I want to thank you.
- Why?
- For all. Since the day I became a magical girl, I have never had the chance to be next to someone who understands me. Someone to vent to. Madoka is… she's the only one I feel confident enough to do it with. But I don't think she would understand me the way you do if I told her about time travel and everything I've been through.
- I understand.
- Hitori, I… I really appreciate you. I really do. You are the only one who understands me so well... the only one who understands how much I have sacrificed for the sake of Madoka...
- Homura, I... I appreciate you too.
Homura smiled.
- At first I doubted your intentions, Hitori. But I see that you are really committed to me. Despite spending so little time together, you have shown me a genuine interest in helping me. – Hitori swallowed. – You have earned a special place in my heart. I can't say that I adore you more than Madoka, but... you really are someone important to me.

They both hugged each other. Despite not saying a word, Homura knew that Hitori felt the same way about her. Seeking one more moment of affection, Homura froze time and hugged Hitori for even longer. After a few additional seconds, she unfroze time and they both stopped the hug.
- Homura, can I ask you something?
- Yeah.
- Would you... let someone important to you die for the sake of Madoka?
Hitori asked, feeling that her words came from the depths of her being. Homura thought for a few moments.
-I will sound selfish, but I would do it. It would hurt me to let someone die just because of Madoka, but she is everything to me. I've seen the same situation over and over again, but Madoka is everything to me.
Hitori nodded silently, swallowing hard.
- I understand... - Sigh. – Homura… I don't know what to do.
- What do you mean by that?
Hitori held back her tears.

- Since I became a magical girl, I... I know what we are. I know that we are nothing more than an empty shell controlled by his soul from a distance... we are no longer human.
- That's right.
- However, I... why am I even able to exist? How can I help others and live knowing who I really am? Knowing what the future holds for me?
Homura understood Hitori's words. The first time she discovered that, she was devastated. She was worried, as Sayaka fell into despair for that very reason.
-Hitori. Even being what we are, we are still alive. I felt the same way when I first discovered it. But you should know that there is nothing we can do. You can't resign yourself to stop living just for who you are.
Hitori felt calmer with Homura's words. She couldn't let her inevitable death stop her from living life. Despite being empty carcasses, she was still alive. She hugged Homura once more, before parting ways with her.
