Ash stared at all of his Pokémon, both adults and children. He couldn't help but crack a smile at the sight before him.
If he was honest, he was glad he met the children of his Pokémon. Many he had seen and wanted during his journey throughout the regions but only catching a total of six to nine per region. He believed in quality over quantity.
Now he had more Pokémon some he had always wanted like Dunsparce, Scyther, Bagon, Beldum, Skiddo, Dreepy, and Alolan Sandshrew while others he didn't mind having on his team like Emolga, Drilbur, Axew, Helioptile, Gulpin, Nidorans, and Oddish. He even learned about Paldea through his offspring such as Quaxly, Fuecoco, Sprigatito, and Wattrel.
Ash wouldn't have it any other way. But now the boy was conflicted about what he wanted to do. On one hand, he really wanted to visit Paldea and challenge the league there but he wanted to bond with his previous Pokémon and not neglect them again. Not to mention, he held the title of Alolan Champion and World Monarch.
And if he was honest, he felt like he had completed his title of Pokémon Master. The thought of journeying Paldea was viable but it would be
"Ash," Oak said, catching the boy's attention as the professor walked over.
"What is it, Professor?" Ash asked.
"Now that you know about the offspring, what do you plan to do?"
Ash began to ponder the question. He hadn't put much thought into what to do after learning the offspring. "Honestly, Professor Oak… I don't know." He admitted.
Oak hummed in thought before asking, "What do you mean?"
"Well, while journeying around Paldea sounds great, I think I need to stop journeying for a while. I just became World Champion but I feel rather…"
"Fulfilled?" Oak guessed.
"That's one way to put it." Ash sighed, "I just discovered that my Pokémon are parents and I do want to be a Pokémon Master. But if I were to travel, rotating all these Pokémon would be a hassle." He didn't want to neglect them but he also wanted to keep the rotation.
Oak hummed in thought for a while, before suggesting, "Well… maybe you are right about not having to go on a journey. Why not care for them for the time being?"
"I guess so, Professor Oak. But at the same time, I want to have some action, you know?" Ash said, "Battle some trainers even if I am the new World Monarch."
"Perhaps there is a way." Oak stated, "Do you remember the Battle Frontier?"
"How could I forget? One of my most challenging experiences." Ash said, remembering how the entire frontier was a massive hurdle.
"Scott made you an offer to become a Frontier Brain after your triumph over Brandon." Oak reminded.
Processing this for a moment, Ash went wide-eyed at the revelation. "A Frontier Brain…" He trailed off.
"Yes. He and Goodshow have been talking about your potential on and off again. You are one notable trainer to be recommended with the offer. Even I get involved sometimes with the discussion."
Ash was silent at the offer. He didn't mind becoming a Frontier Brain. After all, they were deemed to be on par with Elite 4 and Champions in terms of strength. And thinking about it more, he knew Frontier Brains still had their personal hobbies or agendas and were only called upon if they were need for a possible battle.
"Hmmm… it does sound tempting." Ash admitted, "But how would I apply?"
"All you have to do is meet with Charles at the Indigo League," Oak informed, "I'm sure from there, he will be able to help you out." Ash nodded as he took a moment to take in the sight before him.
Ash looked around the corral at his Pokémon and their offspring, no longer hiding.
Pikachu was having a hard time multitasking with his pups. Between Togepi wanting to be cuddled, Cleffa and Igglybuff bouncing all over, Yamper and Fidough wanting belly rubs, Toxel flailing, Pawmi and Pichu trying to work on their charges, the Mouse Pokémon felt exhausted. Emolga, Pachirisu, Plusle, and Minum just sweatdropped from their dad's attempts. Happiny, Azurill, and Skitty were oblivious to their dad's dilemma, clapping along and thinking it's a game.
Bulbasaur used his vines to break up a fight between his Nidorans, Shroomish and Foongus. Oddish and Bellsprout were having a conversation of their own.
Charizard was giving a stern lecture with Salandit, who was dangling in Druddigon's claws. Charmander, Dreepy, and Tyrunt were near their dad's feet.
Squirtle flashed his Black Glasses before spinning around and using Hydro Pump to create a mini shower. Piplup, Poliwag, Chewlte, and western Shellos looked embarrassed while Amaura, Clamperl, Sobble, and Inkay were in awe of their terrapin dad.
Pidgeot flapped her wings, trying to teach her Archen chick to fly. Spearow was preening himself on Doduo's back while Quaxly pampered himself as per usual.
In the lake, Kingler scurried around his children. Tentacool was floating peacefully while Shellder, Omanyte, Kabuto, Anorith, Lileep, and Binacle swayed with the current on the riverbed. Klawf stayed away from the water.
Primeape threw several punches that Sneasel and Aipom evaded with grace. Patrat honed his vision while Passimian practiced his skills. Slakoth just lazily watched from the tree he was in.
Muk was smothered by Wynaut, Alolan Grimer, Gulpin, and Solosis, which the Sludge Pokémon hugged back. Pumpkaboo and Koffing just hovered about while Slugma decided to sunbathe.
Haunter snickered at Misdreavus and Shuppet being restrained by Frillish. Rotom had discovered a fan and took possession of it, turning into Fan Rotom and flew circles around Drifloon, Castform, and Duskull. Tynamo and Litwick were currently babysitting Ralts.
The Tauros herd was taking a break from running at the moment while the herd offspring either grazed or ran around, still having energy. The Ponytas, Stantler, Bouffalant, Miltank, Mareep, Deerling, Skiddo, Swinub, Mudbray, Blitzle, and Girafarig grazed with their respective parents. Zigzagoon, Growlithe, Stufful, Electrike, Shinx, Poochyena, Lillipup, Snubbull, Maschiff, the Vulpix sisters, and the eight Eevees chased around the herd. Bidoof and Rattata were gnawing away at some wood, Meowth was snoozing in on her dad's hide, and Zangoose, being one of the oldest, was giving a glare at his Seviper cousin. Fennekin was munching happily on a branch, Chespin was working on his Pin Missile move, and Sprigatto sunbathed under the sunrays. Cubchoo and Teddiursa were snoozing under the watchful eye of Absol.
Lapras watched while her Seel and Spheal pop bubbles from Horsea's Bubble Beam. Feebas was still swimming around in the lake for the time being and Eiscue laid on his mother's back.
Snorlax was sleeping peacefully with Lickitung, Whismur, and Slowpoke near him. Meanwhile Shieldon, Cranidos and Aron were training themselves.
Heracross was juggling Snom, Pineco, and Shuckle with his arms and horn. Weedle, Larvesta, Venipede, Ledbya were playing chase with Trapinch burrowing after them. Scyther was busy trying to encourage his timid brothers Pinsir and Wimpod to be braver. Venonat was chittering with her little brother Sizzlipede.
Bayleef played patty-cake with her Seedot, Fomantis, Bounsweet, and Sunkern. Carnivine and Tropius were flying about, Tangela hopping on the Fruit Pokémon's back. Capsakid was running amuck like the menace he is.
Quilava watched on the sidelines while Sentret, Litleo, Houndour, Dunsparce, Wooloo, and Fuecoco played chase with each other. The Volcano Pokémon knew they were not mischievous so he stretched himself before napping.
Totodile was dancing nonstop with his hatchlings. Lotad and eastern Shellos were swaying, Popplio was clapping her flippers, Poliwag shaking his tail, Mantyke and Remoraid jumping out of the water in sync.
Noctowl was giving a lecture to Delibird, Natu, and Sigilyph. The Owl Pokémon was probably going on about their flying abilities.
Donphan was having a dust bath with Sandshrew, Cufant, Rhyhorn, and Hippopotas joining him. Alolan Sandshrew just huffed as he knew he couldn't do the same due to his Ice typing.
Swellow was chirping about something that intrigued Wingull, probably a battle that the Swallow Pokémon was proud of. Swablu was more space out while Skarmory pecked at her to stay focused.
Sceptile watched from a tree as Drampa flew around with Helioptile and Axew on his back. The Forest Pokémon knows that Drampa will take care of them.
Corphish was monitoring Tirtouga, Staryu, Corsola, and Clauncher in the river. The Ruffian Pokémon kept giving glances to Crabrawler, who was doing practice punches.
Torkoal practiced with Numel to control the Numb Pokémon's Fire-type moves. Stunky, Shroodle, and Kecleon just watched on the sideline.
Glalie chuckled as Bergmite, Frigibax, and Vanillite fired off Ice-type moves. Mawile was currently in time-out as Honedge watched the Deceiver Pokémon, no doubt getting a scolding from her antics with Charizard's Salandit. Snorunt was confused but Yamask explained to her that the Steel/Fairy-type was being punished.
Staraptor carried an embarrassed Vullaby on his back while her brother Murkrow was able to fly on his own. The Diapered Pokémon promised herself to train hard and eventually evolve to fly on her own.
Torterra was resting on his side while Pansage, Phantump, Grookey, Cottonee, and Petlil hopped on their dad's shell and tree. Snover was trying to get a hang on Icy Wind as Ferroseed and Cancea rolled around on the ground.
Infernape fired a low-powered Flamethrower that Magby, Pansear, Torchic, and Charcadet twins copied to the best of their ability. Meditite was, well, meditating for the time being, Buneary hopped all over the place, Makuhita stanced himself, Mienfoo was going toe-to-toe with Elekid, Drowzee was teaching the younger Ralts on to control his Psychic abilities, and the two Tyrouges sparred with each other.
Buizel threw air punches that Clobbopus executed flawlessly whereas Psyduck clumsily followed along. Relicanth and Finizen swam back and forth doing his laps, Clamperl hopping as fast as he could. Galarian Slowpoke was sprinting around, something that shocked Ash.
Gliscor soared with Grubbin, Rellor, and Skorupi on his back while Spinarak used his strings to hold on to the tail. Yanma and Combee just flew beside their dad.
Unfezant was in the air while Ducklett, Rufflet, and Wattrel behind her. The Proud Pokémon was soon passed by the eaglet, which made her proud. The waterfowl kept a more graceful flight pattern and the petrel continued to do his best to keep up with his mom.
Oshawott was using Hydro Pump to show off again, much to Panpour, Glameow and Mincinno's embarrassment. Purrloin watched in amusement while Espurr was indifferent at the Sea Otter Pokémon's actions.
Pignite snorted as he avoided Heatmor's flames. The swine beckoned the anteater to fire again which the latter complied and continued to blow flames, only to miss again and again. Spoink and Darumaka were restless while Munna was dozing off slightly and Lechonk sniffled around for something to eat.
Snivy had a stern look, seeing the glare on Seviper's face at the sight of her Zangoose cousin. She knew they were enemies by nature but the Grass Snake Pokémon remedied that with a Vine Whip. Ekans and Silicobra paid no attention as their older sister was getting scolded by their mother.
Boldore sat stationary as her children went about their normal habits. Onix was giving rides to his siblings, notably Nosepass, Nacli, and Carbink. Golett was at attention, Geodude practiced his punches, Beldum and Bronzor were idly levitating, and Rolycoly was basically racing the rocky serpent.
Leavanny was weaving a new leaf clothing for Blipbug, the Galar Larva Pokémon having wanted one. His two Wurmples were bickering about their leaf clothing. Dewpider was firing Bubble Beams that Joltik, Nincada, Shelmet, and Karrablast tried to pop. Dweeble bunkered down in his shell, Burmy was hanging from a tree, Scatterbug was taking a nice nap, and Nymble was training. Durant was currently watching over her siblings as the oldest.
Palpitoad croaked with his usual stern tone. Unfortunately, that failed to get his tadpoles in order as Mudkip, Tadbulb, and Wooper were splashing about, Surskit skated on the water, Mareanie was enjoying the sun, and Stunfisk flopped about. The Vibration Pokémon just sighed at his tadpoles' actions.
Krookodile was unfazed when he saw three Rockruffs. The crocodile singled out the imposter, revealing it to be Zoura. The black fox just huffed as Drilbur and Nickit snickered at their sister's failed ploy.
Talonflame cawed to get the attention of his chicks, two were busy bickering. Oricorio was dancing when Pikipek tapping distracted her. Rookidee chirped at attention while the Scorching Pokémon broke up the conflict.
Hawlucha lectured to Pancham, the panda shrinking down in embarrassment. Abra was sleeping; Sableye and Croagunk shrugged at one another; Timburr, Machop, and Hawlucha's Tyrogue were training with one another; and Pawniard sharpened her blades before slashing into a boulder.
Goodra splashed happily in the pond with Magikarp and Skrelp. On land, Bagon, Jangmo-o, and Deino are snoozing away in the shade.
After a few minutes, Ash spoke. "Alright. Bulbasaur, can you get everyone over here?" Ash asked the Seed Pokémon. The plant-toad hybrid nodded and fired a Solar Beam that gathered the attention of Ash's Pokémon.
"Alright, everyone," Ash started, "I admit, these past eleven days have been quite a shock for me. I never realized how many offspring my Pokémon had. And now I am glad I met you all! It has helped make me become a better trainer and even excited to have you all on the team now. I promise you that our adventures will be exciting and worthwhile."
All the Pokémon nodded and cheered before Ash continued, "Now then, to be honest, I don't think I want to travel… right now at least. I just became World Champion but I want to take a moment and rest. Professor Oak reminded me of a certain opportunity and I plan to meet with them starting tomorrow. I'm sure most of my Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn teams remember it well. It's the Battle Frontier."
The parent Pokémon from those respective teams were surprised at the mention of the secret gauntlet. Ash began again. "After beating Brandon, I was offered to become a Frontier Brain. I denied it years ago as I want to keep traveling for the time being. But I want to rest for a while. Professor Oak, Mr. Goodshow, and Scott have been discussing it since my victory in the Masters Eight so I figured I would give it a shot. Is that alright?"
His Pokémon cheered before Ash continued, "Alright! Tomorrow, I plan to head over to Indigo Plateau and meet with him. Once we get this Frontier Brain sorted out, we will be in for some battles. But in the meantime, I want all of you to practice. Ok?" All his Pokémon -parents and children- nodded and grew excited at the chance to battle with their trainer.
The moment was cut short when a massive net encompassed Ash's Pokémon, even the Tauros herd. The bashful ones were scared while some of the more mature ones began to slash at the net. Ash was stunned and saw the net being hoisted from the ground into the air. He squinted to see an all too familiar hot air balloon.
(Cue the you-know-who motto)
"Team Rocket!" Ash shouted as he watched all his Pokémon struggle from within the net.
"The one and only, twerp!" Jessie remarked.
"Thanks for perhaps our biggest catch ever!" James 'thanked.'
"Yep! And you got some cute cats in the bag as well~" TR Meowth dreamily said.
Inside the net, Purrloin, Glameow, Ash's Meowth, and Skitty were disgusted by the advances.
(Sprigatito is a male)
"Now the boss will see our worth!" The TRio exclaimed as they planned to return with the plethora of Pokémon. The net was heavy, so the hot air balloon was ascending shortly. It wasn't even off the ground.
Ash was about to chase them down but remembered that he didn't have any Flying-types on hand to deal with them.
"Ash, catch!" Oak yelled, having seen the debacle. The professor threw five Pokéballs that the Alolan Champion caught. He gave a quick thanks before tossing one that was blue.
"Naga!"
"Naganadel, destroy the net!" Ash called for. The Ultra Beast saw her target and made her stinger turn lime-green. She flew in and sliced the net, breaking it. The contraption burst apart and all Ketchum's Pokémon were released and relieved. Moms and dads assured their children it would be okay before glaring daggers at the kidnappers.
"Hey! That was our catch of the day!" Jessie yelled.
"Yeah! Our trip to a promotion!" James added.
"And my ticket to having a soulmate!" Meowth chimed in.
They didn't get time to react as Pidgeot, Noctowl, Swellow, Staraptor, Unfezant, Talonflame, Noivern, and Dragonite popped the balloon with their Flying-type moves and sent the TRio crashing to the ground.
By the time they came to, they soon saw the glares of the parents. Something that made them gulp in fear.
"N-n-no-now now…"
"Le-let-let's not b-be to-too hasty…"
"W-we-we we-we're sorry?"
The apology was not taken lightly as the parents fired off several different elemental attacks that sent Team Rocket doing what they do best.
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off againnnnnnnnnn! *twinkle*"
Ash sighed, realizing that no matter what Team Rocket would stop at nothing to get Pikachu or his Pokémon at this point. His thoughts were interrupted with Nagandel nuzzled up to him.
"Awww, Naganadel. I missed you too," Ash told the Ultra Beast. Bayleef almost puffed up in jealousy at seeing the purple alien snuggled against her trainer but refrained herself.
After the Poison Pin Pokémon got off of him, Ash realized who else was in the Pokéballs. "Alright, everyone. Say Alola to my Alola Team!"
Out of the four remaining Pokéballs came Ash's Alola captures. Incineroar let out a hearty roar, Lycanroc howled, Rowlet was, well, snoozing, and Melmetal chriped.
Ash's older Pokémon went to greet the new Pokémon with their children and Ash was glad that the Alola team had been sent over. He definitely was glad they were getting along with one another, even at their short exposure to one another.
The next day, Ash packed lightly as he was just planning to meet with Charles at the Indigo League about his Battle Frontier position.
"Oh, look at my little baby," Delia said, tears appearing. It was never easy to see her little boy go out on his own but it got easier time after time. She gave him a hug, "Now remember: eat healthy, get lots of rest, and don't forget to change your un-"
"Yes, yes, mom. I know by now," Ash said, embarrassed that his mom continued to mention the underwear part despite being the only two around.
Ash went to Oak's lab to pick up his team. After a recent discussion, he learned that he was able to carry up to eighteen slots due to his status as World Monarch, Alola Champion, Orange Island Champion, and disbanding evil organizations. Never hearing about these benefits gave Ash quite a shock and more than happy to utilize such benefits given to him.
"Ah! Ash, my boy," Oak saw him enter his lab, "Picking out your team for the time being?"
"Yep!" Ash cheered excitedly. He knew Pikachu was joining him no matter what but now with seventeen other slots open, Ash was choosing carefully. He figured 9 of his older Pokémon and 9 of the offspring.
"I think I'll have Charizard, Hawlucha, Sceptile, Heracross, Krookodile, Infernape, and Lycanroc with me… And Haunter, I should really bond with him. And my other nine choices will be Absol, Cufant, Dreepy, Amaura, an Eevee, Rookidee, Magikarp, Axew, and Shinx."
Oak gave the selected Pokémon to the trainer before Ash was in the corral once again. He had Bulbasaur to make sure everyone on the ranch was training and the Seed Pokémon nodded to make sure that all the Pokémon were in top shape in case they were called in for battle.
Sending out Charizard, Ash hopped on and headed towards Indigo Plateau, interested in what being a Frontier Brain had in store for him.
