Hi, so here is the sequel to Perhaps Love! I am so excited to get this out and finish Season 5-7.
So...the usual. This will not be episode specific, certain episodes will be skipped. Dialogue will not be the same. If that's something you look for in a story then please don't start because you won't get it here.
Also in my West Wing Universe Sam doesn't leave and Ainsley joins full time. Will is in the story...so far...Mandy is not and never will be. Andy had Toby's babies via embryo's not by sex. Also Jake is bisexual.
Pairings are CJ/Toby (eventually) Josh/Donna, Sam/Ainsley, Jed/Abby.
Disclaimer-Nothing but Jacob is mine.
It is advised that you read Perhaps Love before you read this.
And this is 28 chapters long.
And there will always be swearing in this story. If this offends you then please don't read.
Also I do not do Private Messaging anymore, any questions stick them in a review and I will get back to you next chapter note.
And look...I don't like Amy. I don't like her. Nothing against the actress but as a feminist, pro choice woman (and damn proud of it) she was so annoying. In Season 5 I skip her scenes because she doesn't get it. No disrespect to anyone who likes her but she was wrong for Josh and wrong for the show. Sorry, not sorry. That's just my opinion, you are of course completely entitled to yours.
Future Perfect
Chapter 7-All Hell Breaks Loose
In which Jake is spending time with Mrs B and Zoe until the President shuts down the government. Or words to that effect.
The farm had always been ideal. Honestly sometimes he thought it was picture perfect, like something you see in an episode of Little House on the Prairie. It was iconic and both ironic because Jed Bartlett had never farmed a day in his life and didn't care too and as he had been told many, many times that was not this kind of a farm. Personally Jake was of the opinion that a farm was a farm but the last time he'd said that they had been in Indiana and his mother had shoved him head first into the car so that he had nearly ended up in a very surprised President's lap.
So here he was. At the farm.
Mrs B had greeted him with a smile and a hug when he had arrived and he had hugged her back. Mrs B was always easy even though she looked as if she had aged ten years in the time that she had been out of Washington, but that night she'd cooked and Zoe had come down looking happy and healthy and whole and both of them had demanded a picture of his 'Nice Young Man',
"You've met him"
"Jacob please, I don't have any sons gay or otherwise, let me look at the damn photo"
So Jake let her and she smiled.
"Oh honey I am so happy for you. And here—" she threw some pamphlets across the table. Zoe choked into her chicken.
"Eh—"
"Safe sex is the only kind of sex worth having Jacob" Mrs Be said sternly. She was in Doctor Bartlett mode now and Jake stared.
"I mean it" she said jabbing the pamphlets. "AIDS is still a real disease and you are young and impressionable and God knows not going to get told to do the right thing in school so remember, condoms, respect, testing, that's how this works."
Jake didn't know what to say to that he really didn't.
"Were not—" he said finally or tried to anyway because that was true, he was not planning to have sex soon.
"Oh I know" she said with that freakish way Mrs B knew things. "But remember…respect…safe sex…condoms…that's the way to go. And remember…you deserve pleasure too. Don't assume the man get's to have his cake and eat it"
Zoe gagged into her food.
Jake nodded feeling vaguely traumatised.
Harrison when he rang him that night laughed for a decade.
"Hey you can say you got gay sex advice from the First Lady. Fox News would probably pay for your college with that scoop"
Jake had an image of what Leo would make of that headline and then groaned. His head hurt.
"You sure your gonna be okay up there?"
"Yeah, it's farm land, I want you to come too but—"
"Secret Service rules I know. I told you Jake I get it, you've got to do what is the best for you and I told you as much when the shit hit the fan, I get it, I always will."
"How are you this supportive?"
"Because I wasn't outed and I tried to kill myself. You were and all you want is two weeks on a farm. Darling I think that's the best thing" Jake laughed and then.
"Mrs B want to get me on a horse."
"Damn, take a photo cowboy"
"Yeah with the hat?"
"Just the hat" Harrison crooned and Jake laughed.
Actually…that was not a bad idea.
But then again his mother would implode if she thought he was lying on the President of the United States guest bedroom taking naked photos of himself with a cowboy hat on to send to his boyfriend.
And Leo…well…they'd be better off booking him another rehab stint now.
"What else is happening?"
"Zoe's doing this interview."
"I heard. It's gonna be impressive. Apparently it's the first time CNN has given this much control over in an interview."
"Yeah"
"And…I heard that Amy has left Washington"
Jake frowned sitting up.
"How?"
"I got an email from Sam that took me to an internet website. Turns out she's moving to Texas to work with some woman's outreach groups there. She says it's a change of pace as there is more work to do in the South in terms of abortion and such which to be fair Is true but Sam mentioned she's been having real trouble getting a job in Washington…apparently the Presidents been busy"
Jake paused. He really didn't know what to think of that.
He chews his bottom lip and then.
"I don't want to talk about her"
"Fair enough" Harrison agreed easily. "But you might want to call Anna…I had to tell her why you weren't in school and then I told her the whole thing seriously darlin she' off like a fucking firework. I think she's the President of the I-HATE-AMY-GARDINER fan club and If you don't stop her she'll have the President of the United States as her Treasurer."
Jake laughed. And then he stopped because you know what…Harrison wasn't wrong.
Jake looked better she thought. She'd come up to do interference with Zoe, talk to her about this interview that CJ really did not think that she should be doing but also it was partially to make sure that her son was doing okay. The end of the two weeks were up and soon he would come home but she had to admit that he looked better. Zoe looked better…the only issue was the First Couple.
There was an awareness in the air when it came to the First Lady. A certain knowledge that came with the sad twist to her mouth.
"He's doing very well" she said as CJ sat in the kitchen after the interview staring at her mug of tea as if it held life's answers. "I mean he's doing very well all things considering"
"Thank you. And thank you Ma'am for letting him stay here I just…I didn't…" she shook her head and Abby patted her on her arm.
"CJ he's always welcome here, I love the boy like he's my own and it's been good for Zoe to have him here. I just…I wish you didn't have to take him back"
"You could come back with us"
"No" she said quietly. "No I couldn't…not yet"
There was a pause as CJ stared at her and then.
"I don't know why he didn't tell me—"
"CJ did you tell your parents when you were young and in love?"
CJ sighed. She had not and that was the truth of the matter.
There was a pause as she sat there and then.
"I know he was…I know you must have heard that he was…when Zoe—"
"Ah CJ I don't care. I have enough to worry about without worrying about that too. They are kids. That's the rub of it. Besides…the White House has been around long enough to survive that scandal"
There was a pause and then.
"You think I'm a bad mother?"
"Oh for heavens sake CJ!"
CJ looked at the closed door and so did Abby and then. "No I don't, I think you had a kid that was planning to tell you but someone got in the way. He's told you, you were never the problem. Had he taken you and Toby to dinner that night and told you straight out would there have been a problem?"
"No"
"There you go"
CJ smiled. Suddenly she felt a whole lot lighter.
"We miss you"
"Don't be offended if I say I don't miss you too"
"Can I ask you something?"
"What Jake?"
Jake paused. He was in his pyjama's and he was making cocoa and then.
"Do you still love the President?"
Abby sighed.
"You don't have to tell me Ma'am I just—"
"I love Jed with everything that I am and I will until we are both dead." She said flatly. "But and here is where you are so very young Jake, you can love someone and hate them all at the same time. I love Jed. I love the family that we have built…I even like being First Lady, but I hate a lot of other things too, I hate that I have had to given up so much of myself. I hate that I will be the First Lady for the rest of my life and not the Doctor, I hate that he's ravaged with a disease I can't cure him off. And I hate what he put me through. He knew there would be consequences to his actions, he laid me and his children bare. Jake…only parents will know what I went through those three days my daughter was missing but that was swept under the rug because Jed resigned. So I love him and I will stay married to him forever because that's what marriage is, but right now I have to learn how to forgive him and I can't do that in the White House. I had come here and be me again, learn how to be me again because I would have said or done something regretful had I stayed."
Jake watched her for a second and then.
"Oh"
She smiled.
"You are very young Jake" she said truthfully. "And I want to say that one day you will understand but I hope to God that you never do."
"I don't think I'll be running for President any time soon Ma'am"
"No" she said nodding. "But I have to say the world is changing, Maybe this country needs a homosexual President—"
"Who says there hasn't already been one?"
Abby grinned at him for a second.
"So what are you going to do?"
"I don't know"
"I do"
"Oh do you?"
"You're a Doctor" Jake said simply. "Mom says so, you say so, Why don't you go and be that again?"
It was a simple way of describing what she had wanted nothing more to do. To get back into medicine, to get back into the OR was something that she dreamed of doing, she'd worked hard, harder than most, she was a Doctor, a surgeon, a Professor. She'd raised three children. And yet when she had become a politicians wife she had, had to give up being a working Doctor"
"I gave up my licence remember?"
"You voluntarily gave it up" Jake said sagely. "And you have a lot of good will with the Press right now. I reckon if you wanted to you could pick it up again,"
Abby opened her mouth and then closed it. Actually…that was a point.
"I don't know…"
"Hey I only know this because Anna told me but there is a loss of medical professionals in this country because half of them can't afford their bills, their tuition and loans and such, I know that college tuition isn't something you can fix neither's health insurance but you're a kick ass woman in a male dominated area. I reckon a lot of female med students would wet themselves to get a chance to hear you speak. And then there's free clinics, methadone, and that's before you get to the shithead—pardon Ma'am—who want to defund Planned Parenthood. You're the most powerful representation of health care in the country and right now everyone's scared of you including your own staff…if I was you I'd have some fun with that. The Presidents got what? Two years left? There's nothing left to campaign for. Now you can have some fun"
Abby stared at him. He was sixteen and speaking more sense than half her staff put together. He didn't have a bone in his body of tact but then again…he was not wrong. She had a lot of power right now and she could use it. To get back to the basics that had bee her life since she had turned fourteen and known she'd wanted to be a Doctor, to get back into it and make healthcare mean something, to help woman and children would couldn't get help anymore…it was who she was, what she was, what she had always wanted her message to be before it had become eaten up by politics.
There was a pause and then the sound of running feet.
Zoe her hair wild and untamed came down the stairs. Jake stared at her but Zoe had eyes for her Mom. Abby thought that maybe she had, had another nightmare but Zoe spoke before she had a chance to ask what was wrong.
"Fox News has just said that Dad has shut down the Federal Government"
Huh.
It seemed even after all this time her husband still managed to find a way to surprise her.
And there you go, hopefully another one soon, I think we have maybe three or four more of Season 5 left.
Next Chapter-Jake comes home, the government is in lockdown, Sam and Ainsley have a baby. And things slowly go back to normal.
