Chapter 3: Fallen Angel
As a certain red echidna watched over the majestic land that is Angel Island, his stern eyes not even catching a blink, his mouth curved into a frown when his ears suddenly picked up on something. He quickly turned to the massive shrine he had been guarding and ran up the ancient mossy steps of the temple built long ago.
"What is...", the echidna pondered and got into a fighting position, as he caught a glimpse of helicopters flying past his floating island.
"What's G.U.N. military craft doing here?"
An extra huge helicopter landed on a temporary landing pad and out came a few guards dressed in grey with guns in their hands, ready to fire at anyone who appeared to be a threat. Following them out of the aircraft was a middle-aged man with a lined face, peach skin, and grey hair, his eyes, the most striking feature of his appearance, which one was colored green, and another brown. The other soldiers' faces who had arrived earlier, perked up and shivered ever so slightly in his presence.
"Where is Agent Shadow?", he barked.
One soldier pointed to the shelter for evacuated civilians, which was just outside the jungle area. "He's inside shelter comforting civilians."
The man nodded and made his to the entrance, he approached Shadow who was just getting out of the shelter before he noticed him looking at him.
"Commander."
"What are we looking at?"
"We've done some updated calculations, at least 115 injured or sick and 27 dead due to some sort of poisoning from those creatures.", Shadow said while looking down at the ground.
The commander put his hand on the hedgehog's shoulder, remaining silent for a second.
"Any idea what those creatures were?", the commander asked.
"The researchers and I have come to the conclusion that they were mutated sea roaches that resulted from exposure to large quantities of negative chaos energy, we also suspect that the large number of deaths here are from the negative chaos energy radiated passed on to the people, causing them to lose the will to live... And as you ordered, we have already informed the president who has called off all fishing and commercial activities at sea and allocated our forces to all coastal areas in the United Federation."
The commander put his hand on his chin and lowered his head, "Have we got any lead as to where that much negative chaos energy came from?"
"We speculate that Doctor Eggman might be involved as rumors have surfaced that he has been experimenting with the Chaos Emeralds again, while we also consider the possibility of all this being linked to the number of lost cargo and fishing ships that have gone missing these past few weeks.", Shadow's eyes narrowed when he mentioned the doctor.
The commander nodded, "The science division will handle this later, Agent Shadow, you are dismissed for now. However, we suspect this might also be a part of a terrorist attack, I expect you and your team to stay alert, as you three might be needed if the situation escalates."
Shadow nodded with his hands crossed.
"They're waiting for you outside, now get a move on, you need some rest."
Shadow saluted and walked outside the tent, a smile flashed on his face seeing his teammates standing beside a helicopter waiting for them.
"Come on Shadow! We don't have all day!", Rouge said.
"INDEED, THERE ARE ROBOTS WAITING TO BE DESTROYED", Omega proclaimed, while clenching his metal claws.
Shadow rolled his eyes at Omega, and then a frown came. "Where's the kids?"
"The bunny's returned to her mother, and the fox is at my place."
"THE CUTE BUNNY CREATURE AND HER ADORABLE LITTLE CHAO WERE EAGER TO STAY DESPITE HER FEAR, BUT ROUGE REFUSED TO HAVE HER SMASH EGGMAN'S ROBOTS WITH ME AND TOOK HER HOME, DISSAPOINTED, I AM.", Omega exclaimed.
Shadow looked down and nodded, then glanced up at Angel Island with his eyes narrowed.
"Master Emerald! What is it that you're trying to tell me!", Knuckles closed his eyes and put his hands towards the emerald at the center of the shrine, focusing on the glowing gemstone.
A bright flash of light quickly engulfed Kunckles, as he experienced a series of visions in his head.
He saw a large reptile-like figure with pure white eyes, at least as tall as Perfect Chaos, wreaking havoc in a city, with humans screaming in terror, running for their lives.
"SKREEONK!", Knuckles snapped out of his vision, now the roar wasn't just in his head, no, it was real, very real.
Angel Island suddenly started shaking tremendously, it was like an earthquake in the sky. Trees suddenly snapped in half, the ground almost splitting in half.
"What is happening to MY island!", Knuckles shouted, sweat flowing down his face rapidly as he tried to catch his breath.
A huge silhouette emerged from the fog along the coast, Knuckles could see it had 4 limbs and a tail as it got closer and closer...
"Wha...what?", Knuckles took a step back but quickly regained his serious demeanor and clenched his fists. The Master Emerald started glowing uncontrollably, as dread consumed him.
All of a sudden, a military helicopter flew over the island and stopped mid-air, right beside Knuckles. Knuckles looked up to see Team Dark lowering a piece of rope to him.
"What do you want?!", Knuckles snarled towards Rouge.
"Is that how you thank someone for saving you?"
"STOP BICKERING.", Omega said.
Knuckles took a glimpse at the Master Emerald, before grabbing it and climbing in the helicopter, eyes staring at his home beginning to descend to the ocean floor.
The creature heading towards them was now clearly visible to everyone, as its figure towered over everyone. It was charcoal black, standing with two large bulky legs and with two arms hanging from its side, it also had dozens of enormous dorsal spikes, which occasionally glowed red or blue.
"What IS that thing?", Rouge exclaimed.
Shadow tightened his grip on the controls as the helicopter raced back to the Mystic Ruins.
The creature's white eyes glared at the helicopter intensely, as its mouth started to glow blue, while all the seawater has already been evaporated by the overwhelming heat given out by the beast. The beast's back began glowing blue as it turned its anger towards the sky.
"SKREEONK!"
A blast of blue and white light erupted from the creature's throat into the sky, catching everyone off guard, as shockwaves rippled throughout the area.
Angel Island only fell faster, and all of its land mass quickly came crashing down on the creature, soil, rocks, and ice were all crashing down on its scales. Knuckles clenched his fists even harder, as he lowered his head and covered his eyes.
Amongst the fallen debris, the creature emerged from the destruction without a scratch, its fearsome gaze only intensified further.
"SKREEONK!"
"-Backup-Requesting-HELP!", a voice muttered over the radio in the temporary shelter at the Mystic Ruins. Military gunfire was heard by the civilians, as they began to panic further.
"-What's happening out there-" "Is IT back-" "HELP"
Some people were raising a multitude of questions at the officer in charge, while others were kneeling on the ground, clasping their hands together, hoping the nightmare would soon end as tears streamed down their cheeks.
Outside the shelter, the G.U.N. weren't in an ideal spot whatsoever, as they were losing men by the second. Each step taken by the creature created an Earth-shattering ripple on the ground, reducing the effectiveness of the forces located on the ground.
"Sir! We must evacuate the civilians immediately!", a soldier shouted into his communication device
"There aren't enough helicopters! We can't evacuate them all!", the commander shouted back.
"It's our only choice, sir!"
The creature proceeded to lift the Mystic Ruins train off the railway, and snapped the train cars in half with its tremendous strength, while stomping away at the remaining forces, as dozens of helicopters flew out of the area to the north, angering the creature further, causing it to let out another cry of agony.
Doctor Eggman sat in his chair silently as Metal Sonic entered the room, leaving Orbot and Cubot outside the room.
The doctor noticed its presence and turned around facing the robot with an unusually large smile.
"Well, Metal Sonic, prepare the Egg fleet and wait for me in the lab, we'll be making a visit soon!"
