Hey everyone, here's chapter 2 of Tales of Atanon.
"Ok, Anais, the machine worked! You can bring me back now!" Gumball shouted to the sky.
He received no response.
"Anais?!" Gumball shouted again.
Again, no response. Gumball sighed.
"Well, might as well see what this dimension is like," he muttered to himself.
Gumball walked through the town that he spotted when arrived here. Taking in the sight of it all, he found it was a combination of fantasy and sci-fi. He quickly noticed the people dressed the same way. It kind of reminded him of that Nexo Knights show from a while back. It was at that moment he felt his stomach growl. All that time he spent his mom's job and feeling hurt over what she said—not to mention getting sucked into another dimension, he had forgotten to eat.
Gumball looked around and found something similar to a farmer's market. He saw signs for the various fruits and vegetables they sold. One apple costed three… he assumed gold pieces? Whatever kind of currency they used in this world, Gumball knew he didn't have it. Granted, he didn't that much money back on Earth to begin with, but that was besides the point. Gumball stomach growled again.
"There's got to be some way I can get something to eat…" Gumball said before looking in the direction of the forest. Forests usually had tons of food. He just had to look.
Gumball had been walking through the forest in search of something to eat. If he had any hunting skills or was able to tap into his cat instincts, he would have hunted and eaten that rabbit he saw hopping by a while ago. Still, better he be in a normal forest full of cute animals and beautiful plants rather than a dark and gloomy forest full of giant monsters that could potential eat him in one bite.
"Ahh. It feels so good to get away," he heard a feminine voice say.
Pushing past a bush in front of him, he was greeted by the side of a small, grassy field within the middle of the forest. Sitting in the center of the field was a lone figure, their back towards him. They were wearing a cloak with a hood up, so Gumball was unable to get a good look at them. The only thing he could see was a big, bushy, pink tail poking out from underneath. Gumball cleared his throat, getting the person's attention as they looked over their shoulder at him.
"Um… hi," Gumball greeted them.
"Oh," the person lowered their hood, revealing the face of a female pink cat, "Hello."
Gumball gulped, a small blush appearing across his face. The girl seemed to be around his age. With that smile she was giving and those eyes of hers, to say that she was pretty was an understatement.
"Is there something I can do for you?" the girl asked.
"No, I was just looking around," Gumball replied, "Are you out here by yourself?"
"Yeah, I like coming out here to clear my mind… and to spend some time away from home," the girl said as Gumball took a seat next to her, "So, who are you? I don't think I've seen you around here before."
"Oh, I'm new in town. I'm Gumball," Gumball introduced himself, extending his hand to the girl cat.
The girl chuckled, "Gumball?" she repeated, shaking his hand.
"I know, I know. It's a nickname," Gumball replied, retracting his hand.
"Well, what's your real name?"
"I don't know. I've gone by Gumball for so long, I never knew my real name."
"I find that hard to believe, but alright," the girl shrugged, "So, you said you're new in town?"
"That's right," Gumball nodded.
"Then you have no idea who I am?" the girl asked.
"No. Should I?" Gumball cocked an eyebrow.
"I'm Pri- uh… I'm Selena," the girl introduced herself, "Welcome to the kingdom of Atanon."
Gumball and Selena were walking through the market, Selena having offered to show him around.
"So, where are you from, Gumball?" Selena asked.
"Uh, let's just say I come from somewhere far, far away," Gumball said vaguely. His stomach then growled, reminding him that he still hadn't eaten yet.
"I take it you're hungry?" Selena smirked.
"Heh. Yeah…" Gumball blushed with a hint of embarrassment, "That's kind of why I was in the forest. I don't have the money for food at the moments, so, once we're done with the tour, I'll be heading back to forage for food."
"No, you won't. I know a good place that has some good food. Come on," Selena said, Gumball following close behind.
A few minutes of walking, the two cats had arrived at what appeared to be a pub. They sat across from each other in a booth, their waiter having brought them their food. Gumball was surprised to find they had some of the same foods they had back on Earth.
"Mm. This lamb burger is pretty good…" Gumball said, chewing his food. Not only was the burger big, it was juicy. He swallowed, "Hey, thanks for lunch."
"Don't worry about it," Selena said, putting a few fries into her mouth, humming in delight of their taste, "So good. I don't get to eat food like this very often."
"Why not?" Gumball raised an eyebrow.
"Because this place is for—"
"Commoners only!" they heard the owner yell at small group people who were wearing fancy clothes, "Take your rich, upper-class asses and get out of here!"
"How dare you! We should be allowed here just as much as anyone of lower class!" one of the upper-class people countered.
"Too bad. Your kind aren't welcome here," one of the people at the bar told them.
"Yeah. The only upper-class people allowed in here are knights and the royal family," the owner chimed in, "Now beat it."
"Royal family?" Gumball repeated, looking at Selena.
"The king, the queen, and their children," Selena clarified, though she looked away when she did.
That's when they heard a crashing sound. One of the upper-class people had been tossed onto the table of the booth next to them. Before they knew it, a bar fight between the upper and lower classes ensued. The two cats quickly hid under the table to avoid stuff flying and hitting them, but not before bring their meals with them.
"Wait, upper-class people actually want to eat at a place that's meant for lower-people? Don't they prefer to eat that fancy rich people food?" Gumball asked.
"It's… complicated," Selena replied.
There was then a high-pitched whistle, causing everyone in the room to pause. They all turned to the entrance and saw a large, somewhat muscular gray wolf. The wolf wore a long-sleeved blue tunic and a hooded black cloak, the hood down. The wolf stepped inside.
"Break it up and leave. Now," the wolf growled.
The scowl he was giving was enough to get good portion of the upper-class people to get up and dash out the building. However, the three remaining decided to stay as they pulled out various weapons.
"They're either really brave or really stupid…" Selena said in a mutter.
The two kittens watched as the three charged at the wolf. They swung, only for the wolf to quickly block them with a sword of his own, a longsword. The three tried to attack, but everyone was either dodged, blocked or parried by the wolf. For Gumball, this was like watching a live show with a side of lunch… which it technically was.
Now it was the wolf's turn to strike. With a few strikes to their bodies and a powerful one to their faces, the three upper-class people were down, his hits somewhat brutish. They looked at the wolf, who growled, making them run out of the building. The wolf sighed as he put his sword away.
"Thanks, George," the owner told the wolf, sliding him shot of ginger ale.
"Hmph," George scoffed, quickly guzzling down the drink, "For future reference, if you're going to have kids in this place, be sure to use a barrier spell in the place they're sitting so that they don't get injured during fights like this," he lightly scolded, sliding the glass back, "Especially if one of those kids is the princess."
There was deaf silence in the air.
"You can come out now… Selena," George said without turning around.
The pink kitten sighed as her ears lowered with a certain look. It was a look Gumball was all too familiar with. The look that said a certain someone was in trouble. Gumball could only watch as the girl approached the wolf.
"You alright, Princess Selena?" George asked, looking at her over his shoulder.
"I'm fine, Sir George," Selena nodded.
"Good," George smiled, albeit a little one, "The queen wouldn't be very happy if you had even the smallest cut on you," he said, lightly ruffling her hair, making princess giggle, "What're you doing here anyway?"
"Just showing a new friend of mine around," Selena told him.
George looked at the blue kitten who stepped out from underneath the table. The wolf looked him with a hint of curiosity for a bit before looking back at the princess.
"Come. Your parents will be wondering where you are," George told her.
Several moments later, George, along with the kids had arrived at the castle. The were two guards standing at the entrance, each with a large pike in hand. George and Selena were able to step through with no problem. Gumball, however, was blocked at the entrance when they crossed their weapons in front of him.
"Stand down, you two. He's my guest," Selena told the guards.
The guards moved their weapons back to original positions, allowing Gumball through. The blue kitten looked back to see them give him the "I'm watching you" gesture. He then caught up with Selena.
Gumball was both shocked and amazed by the interior. He had never even been inside of mansion, let alone a castle. Tile floors, clean walls, several paintings on the wall. There were even these crystals that acted like lights. He felt so small in a place so big. Hell, the hallway alone could probably fit his whole house inside.
He had a feeling he wouldn't be able to go back to his dimension for a while. But maybe being stuck in this world won't be so bad.
Hopefully…
