I. AM. ALIVE!

Sorry for being gone so long. It's been a chaotic few years and I'm barley trying to get back into writing again. Can't believe I'm starting a new story when I still have to edit and complete my other ones. But I will be trying my best to complete finish all that...hopefully.

Anyway this is a sequel to my other story Simple Yet Paradoxical. You don't have to read the other one but it will mention characters from the previous story. This will also be short chapters because it's all I can manage for now.

As always I don't proofread my chapters. If anyone wants to do it for me let me know by DM.

Disclaimer: I DON'T OWN XMEN. JUST MY OWN CHARACTERS.

Emma stared at the night sky from the small airplane window, left leg bouncing anxiously. She hated flying not because she was afraid of heights, far from it, she just felt confined and overwhelmed by everything. There was a too many scents that made it hard to breathe even with her scarf tide around the lower half of her face to block out some of the smells. She sighed and leaned back in her seat closing her eyes hoping she'd fall asleep, but even that proved difficult with her sensitive hearing. Emma could still hear the plane's engines roaring outside, even with her playing music through her headphones. She wasn't going to get any rest like this so instead she opted to reading a book she had downloaded on her phone.

She had been flying down to New York from Oregon to visit her parents to celebrate her mother's 80th birthday. All her siblings and father had decided to throw a surprise party for their mother. Her father had even mentioned some of the kids from the school where they lectured at helped them out and were planning on attending the party. She wished she had come sooner to help out more but she wasn't able to cancel any of her client's cake orders but she made sure not to take anymore orders for the next week. Her business partner, Jacqueline, said she could handle the rest with the help of Ben and Maggie just until she got back.

Emma had also sent her older sister, Gwen, money for food and supplies. While her younger brother, Jacob, sent pictures to get her input on the setup and decor. Will, her older brother had been in charge of setting up the dinner reservation before the party and her father had been in charge of distracting their mother. So far her mother was clueless about the surprise party.

'Ladies and gentlemen, we have begun our descent into New York City. Please turn off all portable electronic devices and stow them until we have arrived at the gate. In preparation for landing, be certain your seat back is straight up and your seat belt is fastened'

Finally!

Emma breathed out in relief when the pilot finished his announcement. She put her phone away and straightened her seat. Her restlessness growing now that she knew they were close to landing. She needed to go for a run to get all the pent up energy she had and clear her senses with fresh air.

When exiting the plane she blanched at the odors, that was one of the reasons she had moved, she couldn't stand the smell. She didn't understand how her father and older brother tolerated the smell. Speaking of her father she was surprised to see him at the airport. Hank McCoy had been waiting for her outside, grinning when he spotted her. She had immediately noticed his greying blue fur in the distance making her smile. Emma excitedly ran over and embraced her father, purring and nuzzling her face into his chest just like she always did when she hadn't seen him in a long time. She always took comfort in her parents scents. Hank purred and nuzzled the top of his daughter's head in greeting hugging her just as tightly as she was.

"Dad! What are you doing here? I told you I was going to take a taxi home"

"Nonsense, why would I let you take a cab with a total stranger when I'm perfectly capable of picking you up myself, besides I needed to get away for a bit from the princess"

Emma snorted, "Is she on one of her control freak episodes again?"

"Like you would not believe" her father chuckled releasing her "Is that all you brought with you?" He questioned at the small gym bag she carried.

"Yeah, I have more spare clothes at home"

"Let's go shall we" Hank smiled leading her towards his car.
