The clanking of high heels was all that could be heard throughout the quiet hallway of the apartment building. The older blonde haired woman toting a Chanel handbag was on a mission. She was determined to see her son-in-law, who had been away for quite some time doing undercover work. All she wanted to do was see with her own two eyes that he was okay.

She arrived to the door and gave a gentle knock. It was nearing nine o'clock and she assumed that they would be getting ready for bed. A few minutes passed by and she didn't hear any movement from inside so she decided to knock again. To her dismay, no movement was heard. She gave one last, more forceful knock. Finally, she heard the patter of feet moving closer to the door.

The door finally opened to reveal her slightly disheveled daughter, tying up her short blue robe. She took in her appearance, before stopping at her rosy pink cheeks and messed up hair. She couldn't help but chuckle and shake her head. The young couple hadn't seen each other for awhile, so it didn't take very long to realize what they must've had been up to.

"W-what are you doing here, Mom?" Eddie stuttered.

"It's nice to see you too dear," Lena replied. "Are you going to invite me in?"

Eddie gave a quick nod and stepped back. Lena walked into the apartment and looked around.

"Where's Jameson?" she asked. "He is here, correct?"

"He is," Eddie confirmed. "We got home from family dinner awhile ago. Let me go get him."

She quickly walked off to their bedroom, where a few seconds later, her son-in-law came rushing out. Her daughter didn't follow, to which she assumes that she probably was putting on more appropriate clothing.

"Jameson dear!" Lena exclaimed happily. She gave him a tight hug. "How are you?"

"I'm doing good," he smiled as he pulled away. "It's nice to see you. What are you doing over here? Eddie and I were planning to go visit sometime during the week."

"I was in the city eating with my friend and I figured that I'd stop by."

"Would you like to sit?" Jamie asked. "And would you like some coffee?"

"Yes to both, please," Lena responded as she took a seat on the couch.

Jamie quickly got the coffee pot started. Then, he went and sat in the arm chair across from Lena.

"I'm glad to see you home now," Lena said. "We were all worried sick about you. I didn't know anything about what you were doing until Edit called me a few days after you left."

Jamie nodded, "Yes, we didn't tell very many people about it."

"But all is well now right?" she asked with concern evident in her voice. "You don't have to leave anymore?"

He gave a reassuring smile, "I'm home for good. Not going anywhere."

"Good," she responded. "I started to get really worried about Edit. She did her best to stay occupied with you being gone. It was nice to have her at home with us for the few days she was."

"Eddie stayed with you?" he responded with surprise in his voice. Suddenly, the woman in question exited the bedroom, breaking their conversation.

"Coffee mom?" Eddie questioned as she walked into the kitchen.

"Yes please sweetheart," Lena replied.

She quickly made her mother a cup and brought it over.

"Thank you," Lena said, taking the cup from her.

"Where's Dad?" Eddie asked as she took a seat on the armrest where Jamie was sitting, leaning into him. "Is he working?"

Jamie's eyes widened slightly as he looked between his wife and mother-in-law, "He's working?"

"He just started a new job two weeks ago," Lena informed him. "He's doing some freelance work for a friend of his with a few different businesses. He has money but he got tired of being stuck at home all the time. And he's trying to get an apartment of his own."

"Wow. That's great for him," Jamie said. "Where does he want to find an apartment?"

"There's a few for rent right in my building,"Lena replied.

"Why don't you guys just stay living together? I know you still like Dad," Eddie joked, giving a quick wink to her husband.

"Edit!" she exclaimed. "I do not!"

"Yes you do," Eddie continued, always enjoying getting a rise out of her mother. "You two have lasted over two years living together now."

"Yeah Lena," Jamie added with a small chuckle. "You two wouldn't have lasted this long living together without something going on."

Lena facepalmed, "Not you too. You always have to join my daughter in poking fun at me."

"It's all in good fun," Jamie smiled, laying an arm across Eddie's legs.

"Anyways," Lena continued. "Another reason that I came over is because I have something to discuss with the two of you. I really want to do a family vacation this year."

"With who?" Eddie questioned.

"The two of you, Armin, and myself."

"Woah…" Eddie responded with a surprised look toward her husband. "What brought this on? I think the last time we took a vacation as a family was…"

"… the summer before your father was arrested," Lena finished with a slight sadness hinted in her voice. "It's been a long time. And things have changed since then… for the better. We have Jameson in the family now and your father is out of prison. I want to celebrate this new phase of life for us."

Jamie flashed a small smile, "Just let us know and we'll be there."

"Thank you," Lena replied.

"Where do you want to go?" Eddie asked.

"I actually want the two of you to come up with some ideas," she said. "We're older now so I don't think we could pull a very long international flight. Five hours at most if need be. We'd prefer to stay here in the states but if you find something out of the country, we'll be happy with that too. All expenses will be paid by us of course."

Jamie immediately shook his head, "I can't let you do that. We can pay our own way, Lena."

"I know that. But at least let us treat you to some dinners."

"If you let us do the same," he countered.

She smiled, "It's a deal then." She put her cup back on the coffee table and stood up. "I better get going. I don't want to get back so late."

"Would you like me to drive you home?" Jamie asked as he and Eddie stood up to walk Lena to the door.

"It's okay dear," she responded as she hugged them both. "I have someone driving me today."

"I'll walk you down," Jamie said as he opened the apartment door.

"Be safe getting home, Mom," Eddie called out, watching Lena and Jamie walk down the hallway.

Eddie shut the door and walked over to the living room to pick up the coffee cup. Jamie returned a few minutes later as she was putting the cup on the drying rack.

"Did Mom leave okay?" Eddie asked.

Jamie nodded, "She was fine."

Then, she turned as she felt Jamie pinning her up against the corner of the counter. She gave him a soft smile as she leaned up and kissed him.

"You ready to pick up where we left off?" she whispered against his lips.

"Not yet," he replied, but kissed her again for good measure. "Your mom… she told me that you stayed at her place for a few days."

"Oh yeah I did," Eddie remembered. She leaned back against the counter. "Her and Dad invited me over since you were gone."

"I didn't know that," he answered.

"Well… we had six weeks of radio silence, Bub…" she responded. "… besides the times you came home to spend the night. I was going to get to it eventually. But, long story short, it was getting lonely coming home to an empty apartment. Mom invited me over one night for dinner and I ended up staying there for the rest of the week. Mom is who she is but I will admit, I had a good time when I stayed with them. It reminded me of old times… when things were actually good. And it helped me not worry about you so much."

"Well… I'm glad you had a good time with them," he said, hugging her close. "It just threw me for a second because you've never willingly gone over there."

"Trust me, I didn't want to go at first," she sighed. "And I don't think I'll do it again unless you're there too. You're way better at small talk than I am."

He nodded, "I don't disagree."

There was a long silence between them before Eddie broke it by poking at his side, making him wince. "Soo… are we just going to stand here or what?" she asked. "Because it's been three weeks since we've been together and…"

He immediately shut her up by pressing a kiss to her lips. She relaxed into his embrace and smiled.

"That's better," she whispered during a brief moment where they broke apart for air.

"Here or back to bed?" he questioned before kissing her again.

"Bed," was all she could muster before Jamie lifted her into his arms.

The quick slam of the bedroom door echoed through the apartment as Jamie and Eddie went back in to continue where they had left off.
