PROMPT: Different types of spiritual connections (twin flame, soul mate, karmic partner)
My skin prickles with awareness as heat rips up my spine. I flex my neck, biting down the growl that claws at my throat. Not here. Not now.
The tux I'm wearing suddenly feels too tight. I ram my fingers into my collar and pull, swallowing as I do so. Sweat beads at my forehead and back, making my skin sticky.
"What's wrong?" Jake, my beta, asks, shuffling behind me.
"Nothing," I snap. I need to get this over with. I can feel my wolf pacing. He's under my skin. He wants out.
I know he doesn't believe me. I know he wants to push me, but he doesn't.
The music starts up, and I straighten myself, only turning when I hear the large doors to the church open.
My bride walks towards me, her face obscured by her veil.
But it's not her I'm paying attention to. There's someone behind her. I can smell them but not see them. The light lavender scent hits my nose and my wolf sinks to the ground, rubbing his belly along the floor.
Mine. He loves the scent. He wants to bury himself in it—as do I.
I breathe deeply, my eyes closing for a brief second as I try to commit it to memory.
Then I see her. She's wearing a deep purple dress that falls to the floor and holding a bouquet of white roses in her hands. Her golden hair falls down her shoulders in curls, and her cornflower blue eyes suck me in. Her skin is slightly tanned, and I slide my gaze over every inch of available flesh. I want to taste her. My mouth waters, and for a second, I seem to forget where I am. Everything around us fades away until it is just me and her.
Her eyes meet mine, and she stops walking. Her mouth drops open, and her eyes well with tears. My heart explodes.
Before I can register what I'm doing, I'm stepping towards her. Jake tries to reach out and grab me, but I snarl, my lips pulling back to reveal my white teeth.
He instantly backs down, raising his hand as he moves away from me, recognition dawning in his eyes.
Pushing past the woman I'm supposed to marry, I don't even register the murmurs and whispers as I wrap one arm around the woman in the purple dress and my other cradles her face, because I need to touch her. I need to feel her bare skin against mine.
Her eyes flutter at my touch, and relief soars through my body. Acceptance. I know she can feel it, too. The invisible silvery tendrils of the old Gods wrap around us, pulling our hearts together.
Nuzzling my face into her temple, I inhale her scent, basking in the feel of her in my arms, her warmth spreading through me like sunshine on a hot day.
"Mine," I whisper, not wanting to keep the words to myself.
A few growls echo around us from her pack, clearly upset at my display. Not only have I slighted my bride—a member of their family—but I have now boldly claimed her bridesmaid as my own. A faux par, if I do say so myself.
"Yes." The word is whispered on a breath from her.
I pull back so I can see her, so I can look into her eyes.
"Yours."
Inside, my wolf howls long and loud. Finally, finally, we have found our soulmate.
Big hugs, Lu.
