Homecoming
Blake sits in her room as she gets ready for Homecoming. The whole Pack is getting prepared, and Klaus finally calls them again, letting them know they'll be back before nightfall. Blake smiles as she thinks about her first school dance and that she's going with Stefan, too.
Klaus is walking through the woods in Portland with some of his new Pack members when his phone rings; he sees it's Stefan and answers. "Portland is fantastic once you can get over all the whiney music and healthy-looking people. It's literally a breeding ground for Werewolves," Klaus muses, playing along as Lorilei packs up the car with the help of some of the Hybrids and Werewolves.
"Your Father's dead," Stefan announces, looking at his Brother and Rebekah.
"What did you say to me?" he asks, stopping at the ever-present thought.
"Oh, my mistake. Not your actual Father, and not dead. Mikael. Daggered. What do you want me to do with the body?" The younger Salvatore Brother replies calmly, following the plan and wishing Blake was here to help calm him down.
"Well, first, I want you to explain to me exactly what happened," The Original Hybrid demands. Lorilei looks at him, takes the phone, and puts it on speakerphone.
"Every delicious detail, please, Stef," Lorilei requests.
An hour before the phone call at the Salvatore Boarding House, Stefan walked inside with Rebekah, coming from the Pack Den to see Elean and Damon in the library to quickly review the plan. "All right, we'll say that Mikael followed Elena in here," Stefan decided. "He tried to grab her so he could use her as bait."
"And you, what, vervained him?" Elena questioned, looking at her ex-boyfriend, still believing they could reunite.
"No, we vervained him. The guy's an Original. Make it realistic," Damon argued lightly.
"Okay. Fine. We vervained him and, in the process, discovered that he had a dagger," Stefan agreed, looking at Rebekah, who kept quiet.
"Which he planned to use on Rebekah. But instead…" Elena countered, looking at the silent blond Original, unsure if she trusted her.
"We drove it through his heart," He said.
"And what happens when he asks to see Mikael's body?" She argued, looking at the Salvatore Brothers.
"Good point. You, my Brother, have been compelled to do what Klaus says. So if the idea is to lure him back here and kill him, the last thing we need is you getting tripped up and tongue-tied." Damon argued, pointing his finger at his younger Brother.
"Well, don't look at me. I'm just in charge of getting him back here," Stefan retorted, holding his hands up.
"Klaus is smart. If we tell him that Mikael's dead, he'll want proof. Especially if Lorilei pushes it," Elena added when Mikael walked into the room.
"Then I shall be dead," Mikael said, making his presence known to everyone. He took out the dagger and vial of white oak ashes and placed them on the table.
"What if he wants to see in person?" She asked him, looking at Mikael.
"Well, it means our plan is working. Klaus will absolutely want to see my body. You lure him here, and I will kill him," He replied calmly.
"With what? Those daggers won't work on him," Stefan argued, looking at the fake Mikael.
"Well, I'm in possession of a stake fashioned from the wood of the ancient white oak tree—the one that left these ashes when it burned," The Original Vampire Hunter countered, winking at Stefan, who caught the movement.
"Where is it?" Damon asked, looking at Mikael.
"Not here. Knowing its location is my insurance policy," Mikael answered, putting the dagger in the white oak tree ash vial.
"Against what?" Stefan questioned.
"You leaving this in my heart. You see, a Vampire can't dagger an Original without dying. So... it falls to you," He countered, holding the dagger toward Elena. Stefan looked worried for Robert, but he knew Lorilei and Klaus would never endanger the lives of their Pack members.
"You want me to actually dagger you?" Elena gasped, looking at him in shock.
"Klaus will leave nothing to chance, especially when it comes to trust," Mikael retorted. Elena took the dagger and thrust it into his heart. The fake Mikael gasped before turning grey and falling to the floor.
"I want to see him. I want to see his rotting body for myself," Klaus sneers at the thought of his stepfather.
"Well, he's here," Stefan says, getting up and looking at Mikael's decaying body, with Elena and Damon overseeing him. "Come by whenever."
"If you're lying to me, Stefan, your compulsion will expose you. So answer with your life. Is what you're saying the truth?" He lies, playing the game as he knows Damon and Elena will be listening in.
"It's true. I saw it with my own eyes," The younger Salvatore Brother replies.
"I want to talk to Rebekah," The Original Hybrid demands. Stefan looks at his Brother and ex-girlfriend before looking at the blond Original. That's not a problem. She's right here," he hands over the phone.
"Hello, Nik," Rebekah greets her Brother, who misses Lorilei and him.
"Rebekah, love. What's this I hear about Mikael's tragic run-in with a dagger?" Klaus asks his little Sister.
"It's true. He's finally out of our lives for good. I miss you both. I'm miserable here," She tells him.
"We'll be home soon," He promises her.
"Good. I'll see you then, Brother," the blond Original replies before hanging up and looking at Mikael's body. Then, he hands the phone back to Stefan. "He bought it. He's coming home." Elena sighs with relief, and Rebekah scoffs, storming out of the house, leaving Stefan to look at his ex and Brother.
"Now, was that easy or what?" Damon muses with a smirk.
"Let's just get this over with," Elena replies, removing the dagger from Mikael's chest.
Rebekah sits in the mausoleum with her real Father's body, Greta, next to her, painting her nails out of boredom, when Mikael wakes from inside the coffin, still bound in chains. They need answers about the stake he has hidden somewhere. "Finally. Took you long enough," Rebekah remarks, pulling her hand away and blowing on the wet nail polish.
"Rebekah…" Mikael mutters, looking at his youngest Daughter.
"Whatever Fatherly rubbish you're thinking, save it. Nothing you say matters to me," She retorts angrily.
"I see. Where's my dagger?" he asks, trying to free himself from his chains, but he's weak from the lack of blood and vervain in his veins.
"Elena has it. So you can forget your plans to use it on me," The blond Original replies, and Greta gets up, leaving the Father and Daughter alone as she gets ready for the spell to find the White Oak stake.
"You were never the one I was after," The Original Vampire Hunter tells her.
"Nik is my family. If you were after him, you were after me," Rebekah snaps, jumping from her chair in the corner.
"He blinded you, Rebekah. He killed your Mother," Mikael argues, looking at her.
"I know what he did. And he'll pay for it. But Nik was not born a killer. None of us were. You did this to us when you turned us into Vampires. You destroyed our family. Not him," She retorts.
"Rebekah…" he calls after her, but she ignores him and leaves, walking out of the room. She is replaced by Grets, who comes in holding a Grimoire.
Elena goes home after her long morning and looks in her closet with Bonnie. Sitting on her bed, she looks at the photos of the symbols on the cave wall. "I hate everything in my closet. I have nothing to wear to Homecoming," Elena grumbles childishly.
"So don't go. Let's stay home, order take-out and over-analyse ancient hieroglyphic thingies with Alaric," Bonnie argues, looking at her.
"We have to go. Caroline will kill us," She warns her friend.
"Oh, Caroline actually has a date," The Bennett Witch mutters, looking at the pictures again.
"You know that you can talk to me about Jeremy, right?" The Doppelganger assures her.
"I don't need to talk about it. He fell in love with his ghost girlfriend and lied about it. What's done is done," Bonnie replies with a shrug. "And apparently cheated on her with that McKnight Witch."
"You have to talk about it. He hurt you, Bonnie. I'm mad at him, too," Elena reassures her best friend.
"You're mad at your little Brother. You'll yell at him a little, teach him a life lesson. You can't really be mad like I'm mad," She argues, knowing she can't hold it against her.
"Bonnie…" The dark-haired human mutters, looking at her.
"And you shouldn't have to be. He's your Brother. So, no, I can't really talk to you about it," The inexperienced Witch tells her.
Elena returns to the Salvatore Boarding House and goes to Damon's room, where she finds many weapons on his bed. "We can't trust Rebekah not to turn on us," Elena reasons, looking at Damon as he prepares for the dance.
"Oh, really? Because those Original Vampires are usually so reliable," Damon teases her a little.
"Bonnie was right. Rebekah may be mad at Klaus now, but he is her Brother," She tells him, remembering her conversation with her best friend.
"Her lying, mama-killing, dagger-happy Brother. The wolfsbane's ready," He says, and she joins him in the bathroom to see the sink full of wolfsbane.
"There are too many things that can go wrong with this plan. Too many people who can make it go wrong," The Doppelganger argues.
"Well, I am formulating a secret contingency plan," The sassy Vampire argues with a smirk.
"Really? What is it?" Elena asks him, looking into his blue eyes.
"Well, if I told you, then it won't be a secret," Damon argues when Stefan enters the bathroom as his Brother won't let him out of sight.
"I need to borrow a tie," Stefan asks, looking at his shirt, wanting to impress Blake.
"You have your own ties," He argues, looking at his Brother.
"I'm 162 years old, and I'm going to a Homecoming dance. I need better ties," The younger Salvatore Brother jokes.
"You could not go," Elena counters, looking at her ex-boyfriend.
"I'm supposedly compelled to protect you. And if I look at your track record at high school dances, it's pretty tragic. My luck, you'll go ahead and get yourself murdered by the Homecoming Queen," Stefan teases her, and Elena closes one of the grenades, but Damon stops her.
"I know how to do it. Alaric taught me," She tells him.
"Elena, if this thing blows up in our face, just remember only one of us heals quickly," Damon warns her, and Stefan returns to them with ties.
"Ugh, please tell me that you have a better plan than wolfsbane grenades," Stefan questions, looking at them.
"Never you mind, Brother. The less you know, the better," He tells his Brother.
"My freedom from Klaus apparently rests entirely upon you two executing your plan perfectly. So, excuse me if I'm a bit cynical," The former Ripper argues, looking at them.
"You're the one that we should be worried about. If Klaus asks you one wrong question, whole thing falls apart," Elena retorts, giving him a careful look.
"You do have reason to worry. But if I look back at your history of epic plan failures, it's usually because one of you let your humanity get in the way. So if I'm taking odds on how this thing goes down, it's certainly not gonna be me who screws it up. I'll see you at Homecoming. I can't wait," Stefan says before leaving. "I've got to pick up my date," He gives a last dagger to Elena before closing the door.
Tyler and Caroline are at school behind the building, preparing a Volkswagen bus for the Homecoming dance. "Hey, can you hand me the glitter gun?" Caroline asks her boyfriend, who hands it over to her. "Thanks."
"Hey, can't we ditch the decorating and go grab a bite?" Tyler asks, growing bored and hungry.
"Oh, I have a thermos in my bag," She replies, continuing to paint.
"I mean a real bite. Rebekah knows some people who like to be fed on. They're into it. We don't even have to compel them," He reasons, putting down his paintbrush.
"Okay, first of all, I finally almost just got your Mother to stop hating me. So I probably don't want to get caught in some weird Vampire threesome with her Son. And secondly, quit hanging out with Rebekah, the evil blood slut," The young blond Vampire snaps at her boyfriend and his affiliation with the blond Original Vampire.
"Just keep the claws in tonight at the dance, okay? For me?" the new Hybrid requests, already knowing what is going on tonight after he explains his feelings to his new Pack mates, who help him with his new circumstances.
"So, who has the misfortune of being compelled to be her date?" Caroline asks him, calming down a little.
"Matt said he'd take her," Tyler informs her, though he knows his best friend is a little uncomfortable around the blond Original.
"Wait, you set her up with Matt?" She questions, looking at him in surprise.
"She wants to go to the dance, and he didn't have anyone to go with. He drinks vervain; she can't feed on him. What's the big deal?" He wonders, not seeing a problem with it.
"The big deal, Tyler, is that Matt is an innocent, good person who should not be going to dances with evil blood sluts," The perky Vampire argues, glaring at her boyfriend.
"Matt's a guy, Caroline. And Rebekah's hot. Don't overthink this," The Lockwood teen tells her, shrugging.
"This is a Sire thing, isn't it? Please tell me this is some weird family extension of your Sire bond to Klaus," Caroline questions, looking at him with judgment. He doesn't like that.
"I'm here hanging streamers and have glitter all over my hands. If I'm Sired to anybody, it's you," Tyler counters, showing his hands. She smiles at him lovingly as he moves towards her, pulling her into his arms. He kisses her, which she happily leans into.
Rebekah stands in Stefan's bedroom, getting ready for Homecoming, in her red cocktail dress from before. Elena enters the room, and Rebekah spots her through the reflection of the full-body mirror. "Getting a head start, huh?" Elena questions, looking at her.
"Embarrassing truth. This is my first high school dance," Rebekah confesses, turning to look at the Doppelganger.
"Ever?" She gaps in surprise at the Original Vampire.
"I never really had time for high school before. Nik and I were always moving around, running. Anyway, I didn't want to leave anything to chance. Have you heard any more from him?" the blond eternal teen replies and turns to admire herself in the mirror.
"No. But I'm sure that when he does return, he'll do it with flair," The Doppelganger retorts with an eye roll.
"And Damon and my Father are all set with their plan?" Rebekah asks, trying to get a hint to the plan.
"Yes," Elena answers vaguely.
"Don't tell me. I don't want to know. I just want to go to the dance and leave the rest to Mikael," She lies, hoping to lull them into a sense of security.
"I know it's really hard. So, thank you for helping us get Klaus back into town," The brunette teenage girl says, fiddling with the fake dagger.
"Just be careful. I've been running for 1,000 years for a reason. Mikael is not a good person, and he definitely can't be trusted. No one in my family can," the blond Original warns the naive human.
"Are you okay?" The Doppelganger asks, trying to seem concerned.
"I've spent my whole life loving and hating my Brother with equal measure. I never thought that I would be the one to help drive a stake through his heart. No tears. I... I don't want to ruin my make-up. How do I look?" Rebekah says, turning around to show her the whole Homecoming dress with finished curly hair and make-up.
"You look amazing. But you're missing one thing," Elena replies, showing her the Original Witch's necklace.
"My Mother's necklace," She gasps, missing the piece of jewellery.
"You should wear it tonight. May I?" The sneaky teenage girl requests, and the blond Original nods, letting Elena carefully put the necklace around Rebekah's neck as she's slightly taller than the Doppelganger.
"Thank you," The Original smiles, but it drops when Elena plunges the fake dagger through Rebekah's back into her heart, making her gasp and grow grey.
"I'm so sorry. I can't leave anything to chance either," Elena sneers as Rebekah falls on the floor, decaying. The Doppelganger sits on Stefan's bed, looking at the body with no emotions on her face. Damon strolls into the room and places a sheet over Rebekah, unaware that she's beginning to wake up.
"In the back. Harsh," Damon comments, looking at Elena, who is becoming more and more like Katherine.
"It had to be done. Rebekah was never going to be completely on our side," She argues, trying to defend herself.
"Hey, I'm not judging you. It's very Katherine of you," He retorts, smiling, but he feels something in his heart twinge at that thought.
"Not the way to make me feel better about myself, Damon," The Doppelganger snaps, feeling offended.
"It was a compliment... Sort of," The older Salvatore Brother replies, shrugging.
"Stefan is right. Someone's going to let their humanity get in the way and screw this whole thing up. And it's probably going to be me," Elena huffs, thinking of going to the dance and doesn't feel entirely up to it because Stefan is going with someone else who isn't her.
"Elena, you just daggered somebody. You're going to be fine," Damon promises her.
"But I feel bad about it. I care too much. That's the problem, Damon. I'm the weak link," Elena argues, not wanting to get involved and knowing she can't defend herself against an Original or Hybrids if something happens.
"If it makes you feel any better, she's not really dead," He assures her.
"Do you trust him? Mikael?" She questions, wanting reassurance.
"Nope," The sassy Vampire answers.
"What about Stefan?" The dark-haired teenager asks, thinking of her ex-boyfriend.
"No. Not as long as he's under Klaus's control," Damon replies, sighing and thinking of his younger Brother.
"Then we need a better plan," Elena argues, not wanting Klaus and Lorilei to ruin her life anymore. They took Jeremy and Jenna away from her, turning them against her.
"I know what to do. You're just not going to like it," The sarcastic Vampire tells her.
"Why not?" She asks him.
"Because when this all goes down, I don't want you having any part of it," The older Salvatore Brother says, looking into her eyes and falling for the Doppelganger again even further.
"What does that mean?" The manipulative teen wonders, looking into his crystal blue eyes.
"Do you trust me?" Damon asks her.
"Yes," Elena answers.
"Then you have nothing to worry about," He promises her before leaving, and Elena looks at Rebekah's body one last time before leaving, heading home to be alone with Alaric and maybe train a little.
Students stand outside the school gym as police cars and fire trucks are parked outside, blocking the entrance when Tyler rushes to see Caroline. "What happened?" Caroline asks her boyfriend.
"The gym's flooded. The dance is cancelled," Tyler informs her, making her look at him in shock.
"Excuse me?" She exclaims, earning some looks from the other students. "Well, what are we supposed to do now?!"
Katherine sits in the library at the Salvatore Boarding House in her Homecoming dress, waiting for Matt to knock on the door. Elena's phone rings, and she answers, seeing it's Caroline, who yells about what is happening. "So does that mean I don't have to go?" Katherine asks, rolling her eyes at the perky, controlling blond baby Vampire.
"You wish," Caroline counters. "No, Tyler's moving the party to his house," she informs her friend, making Katherine frown as she considers the plan with the Salvatores and Mikael.
"Kegs and beer pong for Homecoming? That's… different," The Vampiric Doppelganger muses, though she thinks it sounds fun.
"Just say you're still coming," The perky blond Vampire begs, not wanting to be alone.
"I'll see you there," Elena assures her with a smile when she hears a knock on the front door. She opens the door to see Matt wearing a tuxedo for the Homecoming dance.
"Elena," Matt greets her, surprised to see her still there.
"Matt, hey. Um, slight problem with your Homecoming date," She informs him.
"What happened?" He asks her, looking at the dress.
"How would you feel about a backup date?" Katerina smiles, making him look at her in surprise.
At the Lockwood Mansion, My Morning Jacket performs on an outside platform in the large garden, with the students of Mystic Falls High enjoying and cheering for the band. The house is packed with students and other people; the Scooby Doo Gang don't know as they keep an eye out for Klaus, Lorilei and Mikael. Caroline and Bonnie soon arrive to see the festivities, and the blond is a little envious of the party. "How did he plan a better party than me so fast?" Caroline wonders as she looks around. "Is that a band outside?"
"Who are all these people?" Bonnie asks, seeing Leo walking past as he enjoys the party and patrolling the area.
"This is weird. Where is Tyler?" She snaps, walking through the house with Bonnie following behind her.
Stefan steps out of his car and sees a familiar head of red hair. He sneaks up behind Blake, wrapping his arms around her and making her swirl around to see him in a nice suit. "I like the flowers," Stefan comments, moving his hand through her hair and admiring the short pale pink dress.
"Thanks," Blake smiles, intertwining her fingers with his and pulling him into the house. She joins the other students and grabs two cups, one for Stefan.
Tyler walks through the house, greeting some people he knows and some Pack members before finding Stefan and walking over to him and Blake. "Hey, Stefan, Blake. What's up?" Tyler greets them.
"Hey, Tyler. Nice party you got going on here," Stefan comments, sipping his beer.
"Thanks, but I'm not the one throwing it. I'm just doing what Klaus wants," He replies, making Blake smile.
"What do you mean?" Blake asks. She's not in on the plan as she's still too young to be involved in the Pack business.
"It's not a party, man. It's a wake," the young Hybrid tells them, then walks off to grab a drink and see other people, spotting the Roberts twins, who raise a glass to the young Hybrid.
Stefan and Blake head outside, and Stefan and Blake follow to see Klaus and Lorilei step onto the stage. The Original Hybrid takes the microphone to speak to the crowd.
"Good evening, everyone! I want to thank you all for being here with me to celebrate. It's been a long time coming," Klaus says to the crowd, who cheer as the band starts another song.
Matt and Katherine finally arrive at the Lockwoods to see the bustling party. "So much for Homecoming," Katherine mutters, worrying.
"This is weird. Us being here together," Matt comments, and Katherine spots Caroline walking through the crowd towards them.
"There's Caroline. She doesn't know anything. Act normal," she warns him as Caroline joins them, not looking happy.
"Hey, Klaus and Lorilei are here," Caroline warns them, making the Vampiric Doppelganger a little nervous as she thinks about the mental torture she endured because of Lorilei in the secret room. She only helps Damon after he calls because Klaus promises her freedom from his long-time coming revenge, and she'll do anything to ensure that happens, even if it means siding with Klaus.
"What?" Matt asks, looking at his ex-girlfriends.
"Yeah, apparently, our Sired Hybrid friend Tyler thought it'd be okay to let his "master" throw a party. Well, I expected more surprises," She grumbles, still a little sore about the better party, even if it was done by Klaus and Lorilei.
"I've learned not to be surprised by anything Klaus does. I'm going to go find Bonnie," Katherine remarks, leaving Caroline and Matt to find a drink.
"What's going on?" The blond Vampire asks, looking at Matt. "And what are you two doing here together? I thought you were supposed to be with Rebekah."
"Plans changed. I need a drink," Matt replies, leaving her, bumping into someone, and looking to see it's Rebekah. "What the hell…"
Katherine goes down the stairs into the garden, getting lost in the crowd as the band performs. Stefan and Blake walk through the house to find Klaus in one of the rooms. "Quite the Homecoming," Stefan comments, handing over a spare drink, which Klaus accepts.
"I've been planning my Father's funeral for 1,000 years. Granted, in no version of it were any of these people invited. But you get the idea," Klaus smirks, and Lorilei sighs, seeing her siblings coming in.
"So what now? You just stop running?" He asks, hoping Klaus stays in Mystic Falls.
"Now I reunite my family," The Original Hybrid tells him, unaware that someone else overheard him.
"Your family. You mean the people you cart around in caskets?" Blake jokes, earning a look from Lorilei.
"Careful, Blake, be respectful," Lorilei warns her. "Excuse me." She moves away, following her younger siblings.
"I didn't mean any disrespect," She tells him, looking at Klaus.
"I know. She's tense at the moment with everything and after what happened with her parents." Klaus replies, and a girl with a tiara passes by them. "Seems the Homecoming Queen still walks among the living, which leaves me to believe Rebekah isn't here. Where is she?"
"I left her earlier; she was happily getting ready for the dance," Stefan informs him.
"I thought she was coming with that blond quarterback?" Blake questions, spotting him from the window with someone. "I think she's enjoying herself too much," She points out the window, and the men turn to see Rebekah dancing with Matt.
"I'm glad she's happy," Klaus muses as he watches his Sister. "Now, what's next?"
"I don't know. Damon seems happy to let Mikael do whatever," Stefan tells him, not wanting to be overheard.
"Enjoy the party, you two." He smiles and walks off, trying to look for Lorilei and her siblings. He knows she needs to talk to them about what happened and what will happen after tonight.
"Fancy a dance?" Blake asks, holding her hand out to her date.
"Gladly," Stefan grins, placing his hand in hers and leading her to the garden with the other partygoers.
Damon sits at home before he heads out to the Lockwood Mansion and pours himself a glass of blood when the fake Mikael enters the room. "Did my Daughter go to the dance?" Mikael asks.
"Yep. You missed the photo op. Did you get the stake?" Damon asks, lying about Rebekah, though he doesn't know she actually did.
"I did," He replies, patting his jacket pocket with the stake inside.
"I'm not going to take your word for it. No offence to your honour and all," The older Salvatore Brother argues, looking at the Original with scepticism.
"None taken," The fake Original Vampire Hunter replies, looking at the sarcastic Vampire with contempt, and he takes out the stake, which doesn't look like the ones Damon is used to.
"Fancy. May I?" Damon asks, looking at it and seeing the design at the end.
"It's the only weapon on this Earth that can kill an Original. So I think I'll hold on to it. No offence," Mikael argues, not letting the impulsive Vampire get his hands on it, especially considering he's really a Hybrid, and it might not kill him, but it will hurt.
"I'd offer you a drink, but Katherine tells me you're more of a Vampire on the Rocks kinda guy." He questions, looking at him.
"Well, technically, you could still offer," Robert taunts him, making Damon uncomfortable.
"Why feed on Vampires? Don't tell me it's for the smooth aftertaste," The older Salvatore Brother wonders.
"I had a hand in creating Vampires. But the blood lust was never my intention. Over the centuries, I learned to feed from the predator not the innocent," Mikael answers when Damon gets a text from Bonnie.
"Change in plans. Klaus is back. He's at the Lockwood's, and he wants your body delivered to his doorstep," Damon informs him, smirking at the Original, not knowing it's a trap.
"I'm afraid he's in for a colossal disappointment," He jokes, keeping a straight face.
"Well, he's certainly not going to come here. I hope your plan didn't depend on that," The sassy Vampire retorts, looking at the Original.
"Didn't depend on that," The fake Mikael assures him.
"But you do have a plan, right?" Damon asks, still a little unsure.
"Oh, yeah. We got a plan, right? It just doesn't involve you conscious," Robert smirks, the glamour disappearing, making Damon look at him in surprise. Robert races at him, snapping his neck. "Don't worry. We'll play nice with your friends." He leans over the unconscious Vampire before leaving with his jacket and bag.
Tyler and Klaus walk outside, standing on the steps, looking at the band as they play another song and the crowd dancing around. "My Mum would seriously freak if she saw all these people here," Tyler muses, thinking of his Mum's face.
"Your Mother won't be a problem," Klaus assures her. "I compelled her to go to church and pray for your friends."
"What are you talking about?" He asks, looking at his Sire.
"I want you to look around. There's Bonnie. There's Elena and Matt. There's your pretty little girlfriend Caroline. Their big dance was wrecked tonight and who came through with a party? You did. What a pal. But who are all these other people here?" The Original Hybrid warns him, gesturing to the new faces walking around.
"I have no idea. I've never seen half these people in my life," The young Hybrid replies.
"Well, that's because I invited a few dozen friends of my own," Klaus informs him, showing Tyler his new Pack mates. "That's my friend Mindy. We picked her up along the way in Kansas. Did you know that there's an entire bloodline of Werewolves in the heartland? There's Tony from North Dakota, and let's not forget the Seattle contingent."
"Hold on. Are those people all Hybrids?" Tyler asks in surprise at the number of Hybrids coming into Mystic Falls.
"Well, they also love a good party. And they, like you, are Sired by me. Now, unlike you, they got a choice, and I understand you feel grateful to me for turning you. But, you've seen what our Pack is like. So if anyone should so much as make a move against me, they may feel obligated to retaliate. Feel free to warn your friends," He tells the young Hybrid before leaving.
Tyler is worried about his friends, so he decides to find Caroline, who is sitting in his bedroom. "What are you up to with Klaus?" Tyler demands, looking at his girlfriend.
"Nothing," Caroline lies.
"He's on to you, Caroline. Whatever you all think you're about to pull off, he's 2 steps ahead of you," Tyler warns her, not wanting to see her get hurt the most out of the rest of his friends.
"Okay, I don't know what you're talking about," She replies, not looking at him.
"You're lying to me," He says.
"Heh, you know, actually, I'm not. I don't know anything. And even if I did, I wouldn't tell you about it because you're Sired to team Klaus now, and you can't be trusted. So can we please just go back to the party?" The blond Vampire retorts, shrugging and going to leave the room when he moves behind her.
"I'm sorry, but I'm with the Pack," The young Lockwood mutters, taking out a syringe and injecting her with vervain in the neck. Caroline collapses, but he catches her before she hits the floor and places her on his bed.
Katherine listens to the band alone when Klaus joins her on the back porch, making her uncomfortable. "Where's your date?" Klaus jokes, looking at Rebekah and Matt dancing below.
"You know where," Katherine replies, looking at him.
"Well… glad to see you here like you promised," He muses, seeing her grow more uncomfortable.
"Like you said, I promised," She replies, wanting to be anywhere but there with the Hybrid.
"I know, Lorilei can be cruel can't she?" The Original Hybrid teases her, knowing that his girlfriend has been torturing her for weeks.
"What do you want. Klaus?" Katerina asks him.
"You seem nervous?" Klaus comments, watching Lorilei as she talks with her siblings about something important.
"I'm not nervous, I just don't like you," Katherine replies, glaring at the Original Hybrid.
"People have been after me for 1,000 years. And I am always one step ahead. So whatever it is they're thinking of trying, let them go for it, let them give it their best shot. They won't succeed. And if you help in that case then your freedom is guaranteed," He assures her, seeing the nervousness in her eyes growing.
Robert arrives at the Mauseloum in Charlotte to find Greta finishing the spell on Miakel, who is barely conscious. "Did you find it?" Robert asks, looking at the Martin Witch.
"Yep," Greta smiles, beaming from ear to ear. "We better hurry." She jumps to her feet, and Robert moves towards Mikael.
"Good night," He grins and races after her.
Damon gains consciousness and races to the Lockwood mansion to find Katherine, his Brother and everyone else in on the plan. He tries to walk through the door but is stopped by a Hybrid on door duty. "Invite-only. Vampire," The Hybrid sneers, looking at him.
"Here's my RSVP. Hybrid," Damon replies, thrusting his hand into the Hybrid's chest and ripping the man's heart out before entering the house.
Matt goes upstairs to find his best friend with an unconscious Caroline in the bed, and he goes to check on her. "What did you do to her?" Matt asks his friend.
"It's just vervain. She'll be fine. But I need you to get her out of here as fast as possible," Tyler tells him, siding with Klaus and the Pack.
"What's going on?" He asks, growing confused.
"Something's going down against Klaus, and this house is full of Hybrids like me that won't let anything happen to him," The young Hybrid warns his best friend.
"What do you mean, "won't"?" The blond quarterback questions, growing worried.
"I can't explain it. I won't fight against this. I need to protect him no matter who gets in my way," Tyler replies seriously.
"By attacking Caroline?" Matt mutters, looking at him in shock.
"I'm protecting her, Matt! This is the only way to keep her safe. Please. Just get her out of here safely. Get everyone out," he tells him and leaves, heading downstairs. Even if he sides with Klaus and the Pack, he doesn't want Caroline and his friends to suffer.
Tyler goes downstairs, and Damon catches him, pulling him into his Father's old office and holding him against the door. "As the host, you should know those Hybrids don't make the best first impression," Damon comments, glaring at the young Hybrid.
"Whatever move you're making, Klaus is going to be ready for you. He'll kill anyone at this party if he has to," Tyler warns him, hoping he doesn't try to get his girlfriend involved.
"Tell someone who cares," He growls, swinging at the young Hybrid, who blocks him, but the older Vampire gets the upper hand and is about to kill the teenager when Bonnie bursts into the room. She uses her favourite spell, enacting an aneurysm onto Damon, who grimaces in pain as it worsens, and she turns the spell on the both of them. The men scream in pain, putting their hands on their heads when Tyler finally collapses to the floor. "Ugh! What the hell is wrong with you? You're not supposed to Witchy migraine me."
"You weren't supposed to kill Tyler," Bonnie retorts angrily.
"He tried to bite me," The older Salvatore Brother argues, looking at the unconscious Hybrid.
"What is that?" She asks, seeing a stake on the floor. They don't realise it's the fake one that Robert purposely left behind. "What is that?"
"Nothing," Damon says, glaring at her.
"Oh my God. Is that the... Why do you have it?" The Bennett Witch gasps in surprise.
"Because I'm the only one who could get inside the house," He tells her, walking off.
Lorilei smirks as she watches Klaus play champagne pong instead of beer pong. As he's celebrating, Lorilei gets a text from Robert about finding the location of the White Oak stake. Mindy frowns when she spots Damon stalking through the mansion, knowing he's not on the guest list. "You have an unwelcomed guest," Mindy informs her Alpha.
"Well, tell them, I'm on the brink of victory here," Klaus replies, throwing the ping pong ball into his opponent's cup.
"We've got a problem," Lorilei announces after looking at her phone.
"What is it?" He asks, looking at his girlfriend.
"He somehow escaped," she says, making the Original Hybrid glare into the air. "We need to go," she grabs his hand and pulls him through the house.
Lorilei and Klaus move through the house to the front door and open it to see Mikael outside waiting. "Move everyone out back," Klaus tells Mindy, who nods. "We're going to have a little chat with my Dad. Tony, you know what to do," The other Hybrid agrees, both moving away before the two abominations turn back to Mikael.
"Hello, Niklaus," Mikael greets his Son.
"Hello, Mikael. Won't you come in? Oh, that's right. I forgot. You can't," He teases him.
"Or you can come outside if you want," The Original Vampire Hunter retorts, glaring at the abomination that played at being his Son for hears and the Siphon next to him.
"Or I can watch my Hybrids tear you limb from limb," The Original Hybrid remarks, and Lorilei grabs her boyfriend's hand.
"They can't kill me," Mikael reminds him, though he knows his stake is in Klaus' allies' hands.
"True, but it'll make a hell of a party game. All I have to do is rub these 2 fingers together, and they'll pounce," Klaus warns him, holding his hand up.
"The big bad wolf. You haven't changed. Still hiding behind your playthings like a coward. You only forget. They may be Sired by you, but they're still part Vampire. And they can be compelled by me," He retorts, glaring at Lorilei a little. Mindy comes into view with Katherine, and Mikael grabs her, pulling her in front of him. "Come out and face me, Niklaus, or she dies."
"Go ahead. kill her," The Original Hybrid retorts, knowing it's Katherine.
"No, Klaus. He'll do it," Katherine pretends to beg.
"If she dies, this lot will be the last of your abominations," Mikael comments, looking at them.
"I don't need them. I just need to be rid of you," Klaus snarls at the man who abused him most of his life.
"To what end, Niklaus? So you can live forever with no one at your side? Nobody cares about you anymore, boy! Who do you have other than those whose loyalty you've forced? No one. No one," He sneers at him.
"I care about him. And so does our Pack, why don't you just stop your bluffing, Mikael and kill her." Lorilei growls, wrapping her arms around Klaus, knowing how difficult this is for him.
"Come outside and face me, you little cowards. And I won't have to," The Original Vampire Hunter growls back at her.
"My whole life, you've underestimated me. If you kill her, you lose your leverage. So go ahead. Go on. kill her. Come on, old man. kill her. kill her!" Klaus shouts, making Mikael laugh at him, and Lorilei sees Klaus shedding a few tears.
"Your impulse, Niklaus. It has and will forever be the one thing that keeps you from truly being great," Mikael replies before stabbing Elena, making the couple fake a look of surprise as Katherine falls to the floor. Mikael laughs at their misfortune, and Damon rushes out of his hiding place over to Klaus with the stake, about to stab him, but Lorilei waves her hand, sending him across the hall into the wall. The Hybrids start moving in from around the house. Katherine gets up, surprising everyone but the couple and Hybrids. "Katherine…" Mikael gasps as she pulls out a vervain grenade and then the pin.
"Kaboom!" Katherine exclaims before throwing it in Mikael's face, making him scream in pain. Damon gets to his feet and grabs the fallen stake, about to race towards him when Stefan appears, pushing him away from attacking Klaus. Stefan pins Damon to the ground as he struggles to get out from under him to kill Klaus once and for all.
"What are you doing?!" Damon shouts, and Robert and Greta finally arrive at the Lockwood mansion. Greta races past the screaming Mikael to hand the White Oak stake to Klaus, who grabs it tightly and rushes over to his Father. Klaus looks down at Mikael before he drives the stake through his heart and watches him burn. Stefan looks as he hears Mikael scream, and the flames grow before dimming into nothing. "What the hell did you do?"
"He's earned my respect," Klaus announces, and Stefan gets up, letting his Brother free. "Thank you, my friend."
"Welcome, but I hope we don't have to do anything like that again," Stefan jokes, walking over to him.
"Sounds fair," He laughs, clapping him on the back. Lorilei sighs and turns to deal with Damon, but sees he's fled.
When Tyler enters the room, Caroline finally gains consciousness and finds herself at home in her bed. "Are you okay?" Tyler asks her, seeming concerned for his girlfriend.
"What do you think?" Caroline snaps at him.
"I'm sorry I stabbed you. It was the only thing I could think of to get you out of there," Tyler apologises, moving towards her and joining her on the bed.
"'Oh, hey, Caroline, I'm worried about what might happen this evening. So maybe you should just go home and watch 'Dancing with the Stars'?" she sneers angrily.
"If you knew all your friends were going to get together and try to take down Klaus, would you have left?" The young Hybrid questions, wanting to keep his friends safe.
"No," The blond Vampire answers quickly.
"So there you go. I saved you from your own stubbornness," Tyler argues, not seeing the problem.
"This isn't funny, Tyler! How am I supposed to be with you when you're Sired to him?" Caroline snaps in the heat of anger.
"I need you to understand, Caroline," He pleads with her, trying to keep calm.
"Understand what? That you're one of the bad guys now?" she retorts, waving her arms at him. He jumps to his feet to avoid being hit.
"Understand that this is who I am. There's nothing to do about it. Klaus will never be killed. I'm part of his Pack. Understand that I'm okay with it, why can't you?" The Lockwood boy asks her.
"But how are you okay with it?" The perky Vampire questions. "How can I be okay with it?"
"Because it's better. I don't have to turn, Caroline. Not unless I want to. I never have to go through that pain again. If being Sired to Klaus is the price that I have to pay, so be it," Tyler retorts angrily. "I've learned how to deal with it. I'm part of a funcioning family for once in my life where people accept me for me and understand what I'm going through."
"But you don't have any true control over yourself," Caroline argues, not understanding his reasonings for siding with Klaus and Lorilei.
"I never did before. The full moon controlled me," He argues. "After everything that we've been through, you've been there for me through all of it. Don't turn your back on me now."
"Tyler…" She mutters, looking at him and seeing the vulnerable side she liked when he was a Werewolf.
"Right," The young Hybrid grumbles, feeling defeated.
"I just…" The blond Vampire says, trying to find the words.
"Got it," Tyler replies before leaving and slamming the door behind him as Caroline sits back on her bed with tears falling down her cheeks.
Damon sits alone on the couch in his living room, holding a drink in his hands, when Elena walks inside after getting a call from Bonnie. "How did this happen?" Elena demands, storming towards him and standing before him with her hands on her hips.
"We thought of everything, Elena! Klaus having Hybrids. Mikael turning on us. We brought in Katherine, so you weren't in danger. Anything that could have gone wrong, we were prepared," Damon argues, standing up and throwing his glass into the fireplace.
"I don't understand. Stefan wanted Klaus dead more than anything. That's what we were counting on," She replies calmly.
"We blew it," He sighs, looking at her in defeat.
"Where's Katherine?" The Doppelganger wonders, not trusting her ancestor.
"She ran for the hills, like usual. The minute things got bad. Who blames her? Klaus would have crushed her. I had him, Elena. I had Klaus. This could've all been over!" The older Salvatore Brother snaps and grabs the bottle before throwing it into the fireplace. Elena flinches and grabs him, taking his face in her hands so he is looking at her.
"Damon, hey... Hey, listen to me. We'll survive this. We always survive. Trust me," Elena soothes him, trying to keep him calm so he doesn't do something rash.
"We're never getting Stefan back. You know that, don't you?" Damon asks her, looking into her eyes.
"Then we'll let him go. Okay? We'll have to let him go," she replies. His phone rings, breaking the moment, and he answers to see it's his ex-lover.
"Not interested in the play-by-play of our failure right now, Katherine," He grumbles into the phone.
"I'm just calling to say goodbye. I don't know what to tell you. You had a good plan, Damon. And that's high praise coming from me," Katherine tells him, driving out of Mystic Falls to spend her new freedom in peace.
"It's not very comforting at the moment. You going back into hiding?" The sassy Vampire questions with a frown.
"Not in the least. I bargained my freedom. I'm sorry, Damon," She replies, surprising him.
"Always taking care of yourself, Katherine," Damon growls before hanging up and coming up with an idea. "I need to go."
Katherine drives through Mystic Falls, and when she steps on the brakes, she sees Damon standing before her. "What the hell, Damon!" Katherine shouts at him as he storms to the car door, opens it, and enters the passenger seat.
"What did you bargain for your freedom, Katherine?" Damon asks her calmly, though deep beneath, he's seething in anger.
"Pretending to help you, I'm sorry, Damon," She replies and stops the car outside the town sign. "I'm not taking you any further than this. I'm sorry, Damon, but a girl has to look out for herself. And I'm going to need a million miles between myself and your mess with Klaus as soon as possible if you are going to do what I think you are."
Lorilei walks into the hotel room she and Klaus are sharing until the mansion is finished. The Pack Den's rooms are now at total capacity with the new members arriving. Lorilei strips out of her black sequined dress when Klaus walks in, watching her. "I like this; I feel much freer than I ever had," Klaus muses as he looks at her, and she turns her head to look at him.
"I bet. And you did promise me and Rebekah about undaggering your siblings," Lorilei tells him, jumping under the covers.
"I did and I will," He promises, taking his shirt off and trousers, joining her in bed and wrapping his arms around her waist, kissing her on the shoulder.
The party begins to thin out, and Alexis pulls Edward to her car. Her drunk Brother stumbles around when she spots Jeremy at the car waiting for her. "Jer, I thought you were going to find Bonnie?" Alexis asks him, helping her twin into the back of the car.
"I can't keep lying to myself and her; it isn't fair on her," Jeremy replies, opening the passenger-side door.
"I see," she muses. She enters the driver's seat and starts the engine before speeding home.
"Lying about how you fancy my twin?" Edward burps from the backseat.
"Ed!" The younger McKnight twin shouts, blushing and looking at Jeremy, who doesn't say anything.
"I'm just saying the truth, I can't help it," He grumbles, feeling nauseous from the ride.
"He's right," Jeremy agrees, looking at Alexis, who looks back at him. "I do like you."
"That was pathetic," the older McKnight twin laughs, and Alexis abruptly stops on the brakes, causing Edward to fly from the seat.
"Sorry," Alexis mutters, looking at the red light and then at her Brother.
Bonnie thinks about what she saw at the Homecoming dance as she steps into her house after the dance, avoiding Jeremy like the plague and remembers something else. Katherine and Klaus were talking sometime before everything went down, and she even remembers overhearing about the Mikaelson family being carried around in caskets by the Original Hybrid.
The conversation between Klaus and 'Elena' at the Homecoming dance at the Lockwoods goes a little differently when Bonnie knows it is Katherine acting as the human Doppelganger. "You seem nervous," Klaus commented, watching Lorilei as she talked with her siblings about something important.
"I'm not nervous. I just don't like you," Katherine replied, glaring at the Original Hybrid that killed her family and chased her around the world for 500 years.
"People have been after me for 1,000 years. And I am always one step ahead. So whatever it is they're thinking of trying, let them go for it, let them give it their best shot. They won't succeed. And if you help in that case then your freedom is guaranteed," He assured her, seeing the nervousness in her eyes growing.
"I told you I would help and I will," She promised, trying to move away, but Klaus stopped her, taking her arm.
"Now, you'd be smart to tell Damon to mind his manners tonight. 'Cause if I die, Lorilei has already ensured that he'll die along with me. Even in death, my Hybrids and Lorilei have their orders. So you kill me, he's a dead man," The Original Hybrid threatened, and Lorilei walked over to them, stopping their conversation.
"How did you know that Stefan would stop me?" Damon asks Katherine as he looks at her and gets out of the car at the town sign.
"I didn't. I was just hoping that he would want to," Katherine replies, messing with his head like always before she leaves to enjoy her freedom.
Stefan finished a cup of blood before getting up to attend the disastrous Homecoming dance at Lockwood Manor. Then Katherine came in, getting changed into a fake Elena. "If Klaus gets killed, he's taking Damon down with him," Katherine warned her ex-lover.
"So, pull the plug on the plan," Stefan replied, putting on his blazer.
"And face the wrath of Mikael? We'll all be dead. Okay, look. I know that you've turned off your humanity and that you don't care. So there's only one solution," She told him.
"And what's that?" He asked her, looking at her with no emotion, growing tired of everyone thinking he'd been brainwashed.
"Care, Stefan," Katerina says kindly. "Care enough to save Damon's life. Because I'm going back to that party, and I'm seeing this plan through. Klaus won't be killed, and we'll have our freedom. But then Damon might be dead. Your Brother will be dead, Stefan, unless you care enough to do something about it."
"You've wanted Klaus dead for 500 years. Why would you risk all that just to save my life?" Damon asks Katherine as he stands outside her car. They sit outside Mystic Falls, away from Klaus and Lorilei's vengeance.
"I wasn't just trying to save your life, Damon. I was trying to save Stefan's. His humanity. Let's just say I like the old him better," Katherine replies, keeping her eye on the road, not looking at him.
"Nah. Come on, Katherine, you don't care about anyone but yourself. You never have," He argues, looking at his old flame.
"You and I both know that that is not true. I loved him. I loved you, too. Humanity is a Vampire's greatest weakness. No matter how easy it is to turn it off, it keeps trying to fight its way back in. Sometimes I let it," She says calmly, growing annoyed at the snarky Vampire.
"I can't let it all back in. I don't want to, not after everything I've done," the older Salvatore Brother replies, looking at her.
"Of course, you don't want to. But if you don't let yourself feel, you won't be able to do what I need you to do next," The Vampiric Doppelganger tells him.
"What's that?" Damon asks her.
"Get mad," Katherine replies, looking back at him, but doesn't want to get involved with Damon's revenge plan. She just wants to enjoy her freedom for the first time in 500 years.
The morning after the Homecoming dance, Rebekah lies in her bed under the covers in her room at the Pack Den. Her phone rings as she sleeps off her hangover from last night, but she ignores it, sluggishly throwing it to the floor and groaning at being disturbed.
Klaus and Lorilei walk along the storage yard outside of Mystic Falls after Homecoming night and Mikael's death as they try to reach Rebekah, who is at the Pack Den, sleeping off a hangover. "Rebekah, where are you? Pick up the phone, darling. Daddy's dead. It's time for a family reunion," Klaus says into the phone, smiling, and he hangs up his phone when it rings again. "Damon. Miss us already?"
"I'm just calling to thank you for my present," Damon replies, smirking.
"What did you say?" Lorilei asks, taking the phone from him.
"The thing is, all of it came at too high a price. You took everything from us, Klaus and Lorilei," he tells them.
"Let bygones be bygones. Trust me, resentment gets old," The Siphon warns him, stopping outside the Mikaelson family's storage container.
"You know what never gets old?" Damon muses as Klaus opens the doors to see the coffins have gone. "Revenge."
"No!" Klaus shouts in rage.
"What's the matter, Klaus? Missing something?" He grins as he stands in the basement of the old Witch's House with the coffins around him.
"What are you doing?" Lorilei growls, her magic flaring in her rage.
"I'm just enjoying my present," Damon replies calmly.
"I will kill you and everyone you've ever met," Klaus promises with venom in his voice.
"You do that, and you'll never see your family again. I wonder, Klaus, as someone who's been one step ahead for 1,000 years, were you prepared for this?" He wonders before hanging up and letting out a sigh, wondering if he's done the right thing by pissing off two very dangerous and powerful Supernatural beings.
