It was a dark room. It was very quiet, the only sounds were the shallow breaths of excitement and nervousness from a certain someone and the low buzzing sound of an excited crowd somewhere outside the room.
The shallow breaths stopped for a moment, and then a red flash appeared beside the anonymous person, revealing a large Pokemon. Characteristics were not important, as the darkness shielded almost everything. The only things visible were the Pokemon's icy blue eyes shining in the darkness.
The man looked over, letting out a small smirk. "You ready, Old Friend?" The Pokemon turned his icy blue eyes toward the man and let out a cold teeth-filled grin of his own. The Pokemon nodded and grunted in affirmation.
"Well, time's ticking, let's get this over and done with!", The man lifted the Pokeball in his hand and recalled the large Pokemon, which disappeared in a flash.
The man let out a final deep breath and started walking to the door of the dark room. Opening the door and walking into a hallway. He started his journey towards the end of the hallway where blinding lights were shining.
Every step he took toward the lights, the louder the sounds of a screaming crowd could be heard. His hands were sweaty, but he quickly dried them off. Shaking his head, getting rid of all the nervousness, he took his last step into the almost blinding lights.
Jace had just awoken from a very weird dream. When he tried to recall it, he couldn't remember anything about it. 'Hmm, strange,' he scratched his head and sat up straight.
His room was dark, so he searched for the bedside lamp. 'Huh? Where is it?' He looked around and saw a lamp-ish figure on the other side of his bed. 'I could've sworn it was this side though.' Again scratching his head, he shuffled to the other side of the bed and switched the lamp on.
The sudden brightness blinded him for a moment, but he quickly regained his eyesight.
'What the...' He looked around, 'This isn't my room!?' he thought looking at his unfamiliar surroundings. Then a sudden headache assaulted him. He groaned clutching his head. 'This!-' His eyes widened in surprise. 'These aren't my memories!'
'It looks like I've been transported to another world! More specifically, the Pokemon world!', he thought with surprise and a little bit of childish excitement. Then his eyes saddened a little. Looking at the last bit of memories flashing through his life
'My life before this was not the best, growing up with no family, working odd jobs to make ends meet, but this body, this boy's life was no better, his ambition was to be champion, but that all came crumbling down when he realized he had no affinity for pokemon battling.'
Jace scrunched his face and furrowed his eyebrows. 'He got ridiculed for it too! Being made fun of for his ambition! Although it hurt him, he didn't give up, working even harder towards his dream. He did study under Professor Rowan for a bit, but that didn't help him much and he showed no potential, so Rowan politely declined to sponsor him. Then he-!'
Jace's eyes widened out of shock. 'He took his own life! He overdosed on sleeping pills. Guess getting rejected by Rowan was the last straw,' he thought clenching the blankets.
Then he looked through his general memories, for instance, his name, family, etc. 'Atleast his name was also Jace.' He searced further, finding that he had a mother and father. 'Atleast they are supportive and cheerful, never doubting him (me?) even once.' His eyes softened once more after that.
After sifting through all the memories, he started to move to climb out of bed, but quickly stopped, feeling something in his pyjama's pockets. He reached in, his eyes widening, and quickly took out the contents. The first one he instantly recognized, but he left it for last.
He then checked the second item. It was a phone like pokedex! His very own pokedex! His eyes were filled with happiness, but he quickly calmed down. He'll check it out in further detail later. He then turned his attention to the last item.
It was a note. It was crumpled. He quickly opened it and read through it. His eyes filled with a mix of emotions while reading it.
'Hey, Jace,
We hope you are safe and well. We write this letter, to show our love and support! We heard about the sad news from Professor Rowan, but we decided it would not end like that.
We have gifted you two items that may help you on your journey. Don't worry about repaying us, because seeing you succeed is enough or even more than enough repayment.
We hope this letter has found you. We hope that this letter will rekindle that spark in your eyes.
But if not, always remember this. We will always love you, no matter the choices you make. We will support you until we physically can't anymore. So, just know, we will always be there.
Love
Mom and Dad.'
All the emotions in his eyes suddenly vanished and one appeared as fast as the other vanished. It was determination. 'It looks like this letter wasn't enough, he was already far too gone.' He clenched the piece of paper hard. 'Then I will finish your ambition for you! No! I'll do you one better, I'll become the greatest!'
He then looked at the end of the note once more. 'I'll make your parents proud! So I hope you will have a peaceful rest in the afterlife. Leave all your burdens to me.'
He looked at the first item he took out. It was a Pokeball. A single one, and that could only mean one thing. He quickly took the Pokeball in his hands and pressed the button in the front.
The ball popped open and he turned it towards the end of the bed. A bright red flash soon followed, blinding him momentarily. Although he couldn't see clearly at the moment, he did feel the temperature drop by a few degrees Celsius.
'An ice type?', he thought regaining his eyesight. He rubbed the last blurriness out of his eyes and made eye contact with the Pokemon.
Icy blue eyes were staring back at him, they were filled with a strange sort of light. Their eyes were locked into a staring contest. It lasted for a whole minute until both gave up. Jace then took a good look at the whole Pokemon.
It was a grey bipedal Pokemon with a small fin on its back. Yellow appendages were drooping out of its forearms and it had a small icicle mole under its mouth.
'A Frigibax!? How the hell did my parents get a hand on this guy?!' he thought with shock but quickly reeled himself back in. He looked at the Frigibax and extended his hand out into a fist bump. "Hey, buddy! Nice to meet you!"
The Frigibax looked at the closed fist in front of it and then looked back at Jace with a bit of curiousness. "How would you like to join me on an adventure?" Frigibax tilted his head as if expecting more.
Jace sighed and began once more. "I am Jace, future champion/greatest Pokemon trainer, I would like you to join me on that journey to the top. There's no 'I am superior to you' bullcrap, we are equals and I would like you to be next to me when we reach the top. So what do you say? Are you up for that?"
The Frigibax lost all his curiousness and looked Jace straight in the eyes with determination. He nodded his head and balled his small claw into a fist and bumped Jace's.
They looked at each other for another minute and then they both cracked a grin at each other.
'Yeah, this is going to work out just great!'
