A bald teenager walked up to his neighbor's house. He didn't know what to say after the incident.
Never in his mind would he think that Mr Dink would get angry at him. He was there for him at the darkest moments in his life.
He rang the doorbell and, moments later, Mr Dink opened the door.
"Excuse me." Doug said, nervously. "Mr Dink...I broke your grill. I'm sorry."
Mr Dink stared at Doug for a few moments.
"That's fine." he said. "I can get others."
"I can help pay for..."
"No, it's okay. I can buy another one or make another." Mr Dink smiled. "No harm done."
"I can help you with things."
"No, it's fine!" Mr Dink shook his head. "No harm done. I can do it on my own."
"Are you sure."
Mr Dink nodded before going back inside. "Goodbye, Doug."
Doug went back to his house, relieved. When he went to his room where Porkchop greeted him from the bed.
"Thank goodness. I though Dink was going to turn into a monster."
Doug went to his desk and started doing his homework.
THREE HOURS LATER
A knock was heard at his door.
"Come in." Doug called.
His Mom came in, her eyes red with tears.
"Doug..." her voice started, shaking.
"Mom." he got up from his chair and went to her. "What's wrong?"
Theda Funnie shook her head, crying.
"Mom, you can tell me. What's wrong?"
She looked out at the window. "Bud..."
''Mr Dink? What about him?" Doug said, a sinking feeling in his heart. He looked at the window and saw flashing blue and red lights. "What..." he went to the window and saw an ambulance in front of the Dink's house. "Oh God."
He didnt remember running down the stairs because next thing he knew, he was outside the Dink's house.
There was an ambulance in the driveway and two people came out of the house, pushing a stretcher. A sheet was covering a body.
Another figure was at the door, completely shaken.
Tippy Dink looked to see the ambulance drivers putting the strecher in the back. Then she looked at Doug, tears in her eyes.
"No." Doug shook his head.
"Doug." A voice said behind him. His father walked up next to him. "Oh my God." The ambulance drivers got in the front seats and got ready to drive.
Everything around Doug went silent. He saw his dad open his mouth but nothing came out. He saw Tippy stare at the ambulance as it drove away. She leaned against the door and slid down on the ground, tears going down her face.
Judy quietly went up to Tippy and sat next to her. Judy gave her a hug, which was returned. Tippy was shaking and Judy had tears coming from under her glasses.
Doug stood in the same spot for what seemed to be hours.
Finally, he started walking back to his house, into his room and closed the door.
