CHAPTER 162
As soon as Seth started to bolt for the shed he was met by another ferocious predator. A second carnotaurus was charging out of the jungle. This one had a distinct pattern of tropical leaves and branches coloring its hide.
Digging his shoes in the dirt Seth almost fell back to the ground. Curving its body this carnotaurus steered between Seth and the shed and went straight for the pack leader. Snatching Falcon by the thigh it dragged her away from the fight.
This was the line for Vulture and Tomahawk. They could no longer stand by and watch. With deafening bellows they threw Dr. Conners aside and charged the second carnotaurus. Leaping onto the horned carnivore's back they dug their claws in, and Falcon was immediately released.
The other two velociraptors that were still guarding Dr. Johnson and Kyra abandoned their posts as well. With shrieks they leapt in the air and tackled Two Face. With only the wrath of the smaller raptors on its belly, head, and tail Two face writhed and was able to squirm to a full stand.
Being right in the middle of it all Seth was in awe of what he was seeing. He should have continued running toward the shed, but he was paralyzed with amazement by the prehistoric death match that was rumbling around him.
Free of the second carnotaurus' bite Falcon wasted no time leaping back upon Two Face. As she jumped onto the carnivore's scaly neck and shoulders the horned beast lost its balance and tumbled to the ground again. As it pitched over the carnotaurus' devilish head slammed down right in front of Seth. Its short bulldog-like snout flared a pair of snorting nostrils, and its sharp teeth clapped with foamy saliva.
Seth then witnessed another one of the carnotaurus' tricks as the woodgrain side of Two Face's body transformed into a vibrant yellow. It was a method of confusing and intimidating their aggressors.
At the same time the second carnotaurus was shifting to a bold shade of orange. Each carnotaurus it seemed had a color of choice that they turned to when they became threatened or angry. This carnotaurus' choice had earned it the name Hellfire.
As Seth stared into the fierce eyes of Two Face something slammed into him and scooped around his torso. It was Dr. Conners. Suddenly Seth's feet were moving and he was running with Bryce. As they dashed toward the shed Dr. Conners kept one firm hand on Seth's shoulder, guiding all of the directional movements they made. Running alongside Two Face, the beast lurched and rolled in their direction in an effort to squash the velociraptors that were plaguing it.
Dr. Conners yanked Seth out of the way as a set of muscly legs flopped down from overhead and kicked large talons in their direction. As though Seth was now psychically connected with Dr. Conners they both jumped in the air at once to clear the tail that was now swinging their way.
Both Seth and Bryce avoided being flogged by the tail, though they landed on top of it. For a second it was like the wildest bull ride or surfing an impossible wave. The two of them threw out their arms to balance, but it was futile. They were launched in the air as the tail flipped upward. Fortunately it was in the direction they wanted to go. Landing on their faces, they were about to get up and keep running when a velociraptor that was thrown from the fight tumbled on top of them.
For a terrifying moment they were both pinned, but they scarcely had the time to react. The velociraptor rolled off of them at once. Without paying them any mind it jumped back into the fight.
Seth was being pulled to his feet, but it wasn't by Dr. Conners. When he got up he saw his mom, and Kyra was with her.
As Kyra clung to her dad they all made a dash toward the shed. They were almost to the side door when Hellfire stumbled into their way. In an attempt to scrape Vulture and Tomahawk from her back she slammed against the shed and dragged her body along the corner of the building.
Stopping in their tracks everyone had to hope that the brawling dinosaurs would soon move out of the way, or there would be no getting to the shed.
