CHAPTER 166

Dr. Johnson sat looking through the rattling windshield. The battling dinosaurs had moved out of site. As far as she could tell the carnotaurs were either retreating into the jungle, or the fight had simply moved in that direction. It had been a full minute now since Bryce and the others had disappeared up the road and almost equally as long since she had caught a glimpse of the dinosaur brawl.

Gary looked at her and shrugged. Dianna could tell he didn't want to be the one to make the call to go. Now seemed as good of a time as any, so Dianna made the decision.

"Hold on!" she yelled as she put the Jeep in gear and punched the gas.

The CJ7 kicked forward with a rumble that could've been heard across the island. Its knobby tires crunched over the garage door and threw up dirt as it launched out into the motor pool.

"I guess we're going," Gary shouted at Bill as he revved the engine. As soon as he popped the clutch the Jeep bucked and then stalled out. Gary was staring petrified at the needles on the gages as they all fell.

In the white Jeep Dianna was barely over the collapsed awning when something attacked from overhead.

Leaping from the roof of the garage Vulture landed on top of the Jeep. One set of her hind talons dug into the spare tire as the other raked along the back edge of the CJ7. Clinging to the roll bar with her front limbs she bellowed down at Dr. Johnson. The Jeep rocked and swayed, threatening to tip over as Dianna struggled to keep the wheel straight.

In the back seat Seth and Kyra were screaming, but a lightbulb went off in Seth's brain. He had the taser gun in his hands. Still screaming he thrust the electrified end of the weapon into Vulture's belly.

There was a sharp crack and a burst of sparks. Vulture shrieked and tumbled from the Jeep.

It took Dianna a moment to realize that Seth was the reason they were no longer being attacked. Looking at him in the rearview mirror she almost laughed with relief. "Good looking out, Seth."

Seth turned to Kyra and nodded at the taser gun. "You can thank me now."
